“Will They Not Load The Box As Much?”
October 22nd, 2013Joe read an interesting stat before last Sunday’s game that claimed Mike Glennon was the second-most blitzed quarterback in the NFL, based on percentage of passing attempts. Teams are coming after Glennon, and they were loading the box to stuff Doug Martin and dare Glennon to beat them.
No surprise there. He’s a rookie QB and Martin was a Pro Bowler.
But that could change Thursday night against Carolina. Martin is shelved with a shoulder injury and Greg Schiano is waiting to see how the Panthers defend his juggernaut offense.
“When you’re talking about loading the box, that’s to stop the run. So with Doug [Martin] gone, you wonder will they not load the box as much? Do they respect our backup two running backs and our run game, or are they going to lay back more in 2-safety-high and make you beat’em with the run?” Schiano said today at One Buc Palace. “I don’t know. You got a rookie tailback and you got a rookie quarterback. So let them pick; we’ll just react to it.”
The lousy thing is Carolina has the No. 3 ranked defense in the NFL. They’re fifth against the pass, fourth against the run and second best in points allowed (13.8 per game). No matter how Carolina approaches the Bucs they have the talent to stuff them.
Joe suspects Carolina will do all kinds of things to confuse Glennon. A big key will be whether the Bucs’ offensive line can shake their demons and pass block. If not, there’s going to be a loud chorus of boos flying through the night sky.

I’m sure we’ll be fine.
What could go wrong?

This is why I have no faith in this coaching staff. That is the dumbest remark I have ever heard. They are going to stuff the box the entire night and shut down the run game/blitz the crap out of Mike Glennon. He is terrible against the rush and it will effectively eliminate the play action passing game. Is Schiano really this dumb? Does he think anybody in the league respects anything we are doing at this point? It is a simple formula, my god.

what i’d like to see is Glennon audible out of pass plays to a run away from the blitz and when they stuff the box to audible into pass plays. Wonder if schiano will give him that kind of control

Given our OL play, I would sit back with 2 deep safeties. The key to this game is our defense. We need a monster game from them.

Yea Capt. T , no worries. Schiano just needs to fix a few things and everything will be rosy.

Clearly he doesn’t.

Welcome back NBA season, and thanks for rescuing me from this nightmare called Tampa Bay Bucs football!

Hope our offense guru’s can figure out some creativity with our playbook and keep the defense on their heels. Maybe some bubble screens, reverses, pitches, TE useage and anything else that will help us generate something against this stingy defense! Mike James…..it’s time to shine under the NFL Network lights!
As long as this game isn’t as terrible as last night’s game…….wow!!
October 22nd, 2013 at 2:14 pm
i’d be surprised if we score more than 13
October 22nd, 2013 at 2:20 pm
For you gamblers out there…..take the under on this game!

they should load the box even more glennen cant take the team on his shoulders yet why wouldn’t you . This will be the biggest setback yet the panthers are playing inspired with a lot of swagger and the bucs well you know and you might here some players talking after this prime time game and will get embarrassed on national TV and that hasn’t happened yet poor bucs have to hit bottom before you can start the healing with 2 wasted years but the only good thing is a new leader has a lot to work with

Did Schiano say “react”? Surely that can’t mean he will do something different to what we’ve been seeing the past six weeks.
