“Unfair To Absolutely Kill Schiano”

October 5th, 2013

Peter King makes a case that Josh Freeman was no better than Tim Tebow and that Greg Schiano is a victim of lies and distortions

Josh Freeman was ousted by Tampa Bay because he didn’t play well and wasn’t going to get a new contract. Everything else is just circus noise.

Joe sees a very similar bottom line for Greg Schiano, barring a stunning 2013 turnaround. The head coach has lost nine of 10 games and is routinely outcoached. Everything else is just circus noise.

But a renowned NFL writer sees Schiano as a man getting a bad rap — courtesy of a bad quarterback no better than Tim Tebow.

Olive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerkingbeer-chuggingcricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïve,baseball box score-reading Peter King, of Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports fame, issued a passionate backhanded endorsement of Schiano yesterday during a radio interview on WEEI-FM in Boston.

“I think that we’ve only gotten one side of the story — the side of the story that says Greg Schiano is a total nincompoop, idiot, you know, just a bad human being, spy, all that stuff. I just am going to tell you this right now: I think about two-thirds of the stuff out there about Schiano is absolute bullcrap,” King said. “I think that Greg Schiano, I think he’s a good man. I really do. And I think that given a chance, a fair chance, he’s going to win. But I see this snowball rolling downhill right now. This everything against Greg Schiano.”

“And I just will make this point, over his last 10 games, Josh Freeman is 1-9, and over those 10 games he has a lower quarterback rating through those 10 starts he has a lower quarterback rating than the last 10 starts of Tim Tebow’s career.

At some point we can talk about, ‘Oh, [Schiano is] invading the privacy. He’s this. He’s too hard on these guys. He’s coaching them like they’re in high school.’

At some point, you’ve got to perform. And Josh Freeman is a 50 percent passer over his last 10 starts in the NFL. I’m sorry if I’m not getting in the violin line for Josh Freeman. And if I am not quick to shovel dirt on Greg Schiano’s NFL career. Because he cast his lot — at least for the first two years — with a quarterback who, for whatever reason — maybe coaching is part of it, it probably is — but he cast his lot with this guy. And regardless of why it happened, how it happened, to me, I think it’s pretty unfair to absolutely kill Schiano in this thing and paint Josh Freeman as some sort of wronged saint. End of sermon.”

Here’s what doesn’t make sense about King’s assessment of Schiano. If Josh Freeman was so bad, then why did Schiano stick with him in 2013?

Schiano had the full respect of the Bucs organization last winter and could have told his bosses Freeman wasn’t the guy — his guy — and ordered a trade of Freeman and rolled with Mike Glennon or whatever QB the Bucs could have gotten on the market in March and April. Please don’t try to sell Joe that anyone twisted Schiano’s arm after a 7-9 opening season and a franchise overhaul that he was hired to lead.

That absolutely must factor into the evaluation of Schiano, who adamantly claimed a few weeks ago — and repeated recently — that he has the “components” in place to win now.

Again, Joe’s trying to keep his head clear of the circus noise. Schiano has to win. Plain and simple. This is not a rebuilding year.

  1. Patrick in VA Says:

Sounds like a guy sticking up for someone he likes despite the facts, not because of them. even before the benching and the character assassination, whether any of it is true or not, that has gone on recently, schiano has been a consistently bad coach. We’ve addressed his shortcomings here ad nauseum and they are extensive when only focusing on what is shown on the field.

  2. Buc-0 Says:

…but didn’t the Bucs go after Carlson Palmer in the off-season? …and they drafted a QB I the third round…

  3. scubog Says:

Freeman may not be Peyton Manning but he’s no Tim Tebow either. What a ridiculous statement. Schiano absolutely has his fingerprints on the pathetic won-loss record during his tenure.

  4. AmbushBuc Says:

scubog is right that Josh Freeman is no Tim Tebow. Tebow sucks horribly and will never make a decent NFL QB. But Tebow is still better than Freeman.

  5. k_bassuka Says:

King is playing the game. He supports Singano in case the guy starts winning, which there’s a good possibility he would, then King will look like a genius instead of writing what everyone else wrote about…

Will see what happens I dont think he is a good coach regardless of what his record say…

  6. Mach Says:

Either way all of this drama and losses have come under schiano’s watch. He just needs to stop treating us all like fools and step up and take responsibility for it all.

I find it hard to believe that every report I’ve heard since he took over was that he controls everything down to the room temp so then it’s hard to believe he didn’t know anything that was leaked to the media. Of course he knew..

I would have a lot more respect for him if he just stands up and says yes it’s all his fault and that he is in over his head. Everyone makes mistakes and I’m sure he is smart enough to fix it but he can’t go on actin mr tough and mr right all the time. Admit your mistakes and be willing to change and adopt.. If he can’t do that or accept that then he should leave.

  7. CC Says:

We now know the Bucs were looking to a qb in the offseason. And that is a stunning fact that Freeman had a lower qb rating than Tebow in their last 10 games. What do you want Schiano to say , we have all the pieces in place except qb. Having said that , get rid of Schiano and Dom and complete the trifecta . Call Lovie now and lock him up. Bring back McCay and get this organization pointed in the right direction . You would then have instant respectability .

  8. Paul Says:

Idk, why is there no leaks now? They came from Freeman camp trying to kill a trade?

  9. Paul Says:

I’m not 100% sure that Freeman was the choirboy that everyone made him out to be. Never seen such a tantrum from a starting QB that gets benched before.

  10. King Diamond Says:

We’re gonna be lucky if we win a single game this year.

  11. PRBucFan Says:

Because he wanted to see LIKE EVERYONE ELSE if Josh could prove he could turn it around this season.

He genuinely looked improved “per JBF reports” in training camp why would’t he stick with em.

Stop digging where there is nothing to be found.

  12. Meh Says:

Freeman played his way out of town. Schiano is coaching himself out of town. End of story. No saints, no villains, just some really sh!tty football.

  13. Paul Says:

They had to get the Glazers to sign off on benching Freeman. I’d wager that he didn’t have permission to bench/trade him at that time.

  14. King Diamond Says:

This isn’t Rutgers. Shiano installed a offense completely non condusive for freeman. Yes Freeman should have been able to pick it up better but he’s not a system QB plus the offensive line is mediocre @ best. A good coach tries to adapt to the strengths of his players.

  15. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

I don’t think Schiano had full authority over Freeman…the way all this coming down….saying he was the starter then two days later after a “meeting” benching….then saying he was number 2…then inactive….that just doesn’t sound like Schiano’s style…if anything he is tightlipped. He could have said like he says for everything….”we’ll have to look at the tape” or “that decision will be made closer to gametime”

The Bucs have lost 3 games by 6 points….a bad penalty, a missed field goal & a fumble by Martin then interception by a rookie.
If not for that, he would be in far better shape.

  16. PRBucFan Says:

    lol keep Free’s excuses rollin

  17. jb Says:

It’a pretty obvious Peter King hasn’t watched Schiano on the sidelines of any of the BUCS 4 games this season. I’m sure had he done so, he would be as critical of him as many of us have been, if not more so. Schiano is clearly not NFL head coach material simply for the fact he doesn’t know what he’s doing on game day. Forget the fact that players don’t trust him and the numerous negative traits that have come out in recent weeks. Bottom line, the guy can’t coach at this level!

Peter may want to watch Schiano’s idea of game management before he risks his credibility by sticking up for this clown.

  18. Splengo Says:

Let’s buy the circus noise theory for now. Bad accident to start the race, the checkered flags are out, race is restarted. Josh has a chance to restart his career, Schiano has a chance to win the remaining 12 games. Meet you guys back at the end of the race. No more excuses! No more circus noise!

  19. Doc Says:

Mr. King explain the o-4 start,Freeman was not the head coach.

  20. Mach Says:

MEH .. I think you summed it up well… The Denver coaching still found a way to get to the playoffs with Tebow and New England found a way with cassel. A good coach will always be able to adjust on the fly when things don’t go to plan fortunately for the bucs schiano is not that experienced in been a good nfl coach.

He most likely will be a good coach down the track but unfortunately I don’t think he is the guy for a win now team. I think someone like Marty is the person we need to get us wins now before this door closes in the next few years…

  21. Tony Says:

    @Joe

How do we know that Schiano didn’t tell ownership that this wasn’t his guy and that they needed to bring in a legitimate veteran for competition (Palmer inquiries)? Again, Freeman had just put up a few big numbers the previous year and was going into a contract year so to bench at that point is virtually impossible. Just don’t see how we wouldn’t be 3-1 this year with better QB play/better offense. Then we would be the talk of the league.

  22. Capt. Tim Says:

It’s amazing that no one ever sees the two as linked.
Can the best QB in the league succeed in a a horrible scheme?
    No. Absolutely not.

Can the greatest coach in the league succeed with a horrible QB?
    Again, no. No way.

Yet every one seperates the two. As if Schiano being a horrible coach, had nothing to do with Freeman’s performance. I think that’s funny.

I do know this. Our scheme is horrible. It isn’t the Giants offense. It has so few options on every play, that Tom Brady couldn’t get it to run smoothly. It was NOT QB friendly. No QB would want any part of it.

The bad part is, QBs are studied, measured, prodded, and probbed. The make sure they have the skills necessary- before they are drafted. Freeman was given the Thumbs up by 90% of the league at the draft. He was a consensus 1st round pick.

Schiano had a good interview, and a .500 record at a tiny school in Jersey.
    Jersey!!!
While they both hurt each other- Schiano and his trash Rutgers offense hurt Freeman 10 times worse than Freeman hurt Schiano.

King should stick to Popcorn. He hasn’t researched he team at all, just burning out some hollow headed opinion .
I know, because I actually do my homework.
    And they pay him. Unbelievable.

  23. BucfaninMi Says:

@paul- you’re right, all the “leaks” came from Freeman’s camp, now he’s gone and we have no QB! Baby bitch got his way!! Ooh coach is mean. These guys today would have been cut from every team if this were the 70s!

  24. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Joe says
“Here’s what doesn’t make sense about King’s assessment of Schiano. If Josh Freeman was so bad, then why did Schiano stick with him in 2013?”

I can answer that. In theory.

When Schiano came Freeman was Dominick’s guy. He was only a year removed from a very good season. There was no reason NOT to give Freeman the opportunity to make it.

I lay the blame at Sullivan’s feet. Not that I don’t like Sully, because I do, but this has his prints all over it.

Consider this: Schiano, like many, many college coaches, likes to run the ball. A lot. In college even the quarterbacks run a lot. Yet here Freeman has not been permitted to run. Why? Certainly Schiano, who is run first, would like it.

Sullivan is use to Eli Manning, who is a pocket passer. He knew Freeman had a good deep ball. I’m guessing he is the reason Free did less running and moving around. He was trying to force Freeman into becoming the next Eli. He flat out refused to adapt to the player.

With Dominick and Sullivan whispering in his ear, Schiano probably decided to go with Freeman. Heck, I still think Freeman would have been successful if he were allowed to play the way he is used to.

With the chains on him he was going to fail, and he did. Sully wants a pocket passer. If he’s here long enough he’ll get one.

Mike Lemon (I mean Glennon), from what I’ve seen, is not very good at the deep ball, not like Josh was. He is better than Josh at the short to medium passes though. He seems completely immobile, but more confident.

Mind you, I’m going by his first game only and not counting preseason because preseason is not a fair comparison. To me, he doesn’t look like a good quarterback, but I admit, that means little. HE certainly does not sound like a rookie quarterback who is trying to improve himself. Not once have I heard him say he needs to get better in any part of his game.

All I’ve heard from him is that they have to prepare better than the other team. So, to me, he is avoiding taking responsibility for his weaknesses.

But again, it is based on one game and a week of comments from him. It may be too soon. Either way, if he is not the answer we’ll get one in the draft or Free Agency.

Speaking of which, don’t be bothered that the projected free agents do not look very promising. Things change throughout the season. Who would have thought Peyton Manning would have ever been released by the Colts?

  25. Mr Lucky Says:

    You’ve got it all WRONG:

Head Coaches don’t matter in the NFL, it’s all about the players!

Yeah, tell that to the 4-0 KC Chiefs, the 4-0 Saints

    Hire Bill Cowher NOW!

  26. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Mach Says
“He (Schiano) just needs to stop treating us all like fools and step up and take responsibility for it all.”

I take it you have not watched any of the press conferences? He takes responsibility in almost every one of them.

    King Diamond Says
“This isn’t Rutgers. Shiano installed a offense completely non condusive for freeman.”

That’s the myth. Schiano did not install the offense. All he did is say he wanted a run-first offense. That’s as far as it went. Sullivan developed and installed the offense. Completely. Schiano knows nothing about developing offenses. He is a defensive coach.

  27. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Mr Lucky, why do you think Bill Cohwer would succeed here? State your case because I’m curious.

  28. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

By the same token, those saying to get Lovie Smith, also state your case. I want to be convinced. Who knows, maybe doing so will convince ownership if they read these pages (I don’t know if they do).

  29. SeanyMac in SC Says:

I tend to agree with Kings take.

My take as to why the NSO kept JF5 thru the off season.

I don’t recall a free agent QB’s any better (at that time) than JF5. We did not have a 1st round pick as we gave that up for Revis. Revis’s performance due to injury was still in question, so getting Banks in the 2nd round is a back up plan. Remember the secondary was the focus of improvement during the off season. 3rd round, enter, Mike Glennon, arguably the best QB available at that point in the draft.

I suspect the NSO ( and myself included) kept hoping that “good” Josh would emerge and the W’s would be coming. After all, the team played well against ATL at the end of last season. All the reports from training camp is JF5 is playing well.

The team losses 3 close games and one bad loss to NE, so its time to make a change. Bad Josh has emerged and since he touches the ball every play……and you know the rest of the story.

I don’t think there are any villains in this story as the national media would lead us to believe. I think Freeman and Schiano are good people, but at the end of the day in a performed based business, changes have to be made.

  30. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Tony, I personally believe Palmer would be doing better here than he is where he is at. So I agree with you there.

  31. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

Where has Dominick been through all of this? I suspect that he and the Glazers made the move with Freeman. I think they really tried to get a trade in the off season but weren’t successful.
It tells you something when they were willing to absorb a large portion of Freeman’s salary & take a late 2015 pick…and had no takers out of 31 teams….that we didn’t have ther right QB.

  32. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Good take, SeanyMac.

I think it was Freeman’s agent causing the troubles. Him and maybe some third string backup player leaking the drug testing.

I think mountains were made of molehills as to all the other issues raised. The late to meetings things (who cares? It happened rarely and it wasn’t a big deal). Missing hte team photo was kind of bad, but things happen.

  33. Mike Says:

I have to agree with Bonzai here. Every time I here Schiano talk he takes the blame at the end…. So how does he not hold himself accountable?

  34. Jktampa Says:

I’m not saying Freeman is all that great but a good coach would have found a way to win with him. Tebow took the Broncos to the playoffs and then actually won a game. They won because the coach used his strengths and didn’t try to change him into something he’s not. It has been a long time since the Bucs have even sniffed the playoffs. We can sit and argue about personnel but look how quickly teams like San Francisco and Seattle were turned around. Their whole division had a losing record. Until the Bucs find a good coach we will continue to lose. Until Shiano is gone the circus will be in town.

  35. Paul Says:

The personnel decisions besides Freeman is what is so worrisome. Why didn’t we get a TE in a deep FA market, why don’t we have Talib, why does Michael Bennett have almost as many pressures this season as Claiborn, Teo and Bowers? What makes Brian Leonard so special. Why is Osowu on the team? I could go on, but I’d probably have to start drinking early.

  36. Mike Says:

    Hear*

  37. Mach Says:

Bonzai, I get what you mean but there is a difference between saying he takes responsibility and the actions that he puts in place. I maybe wrong in this but all I see is a guy who walks onto that podium and says the same thing every press conference but is reluctant to change his ways or make adjustments.

The players have also said that after the team meeting about practices which was passed onto him by the captains they were back in pads the next day.

Please don’t get me wrong I do think he has potential but sometimes it’s good to give in a little and adjust to the situation which he is too stubborn to do. Again I make my point that he will one day be a great coach which I firmly believe … He is just not the right coach for this team at this time. Maybe as a DC but certainly not a HC.

  38. Jktampa Says:

Agreed, Paul. There have been some questionable personnel decisions but I think we could’ve won with the guys we have. We weren’t winning with Bennett either.

  39. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

    @ Bonzai

I also agree….Schiano has got to be doing some “self-scouting” during the bye….the only thing stronger than his stubborness is his survival instinct.
I think Schiano may have a longer leash because much of the Freeman issue has come from upstairs.

  40. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

Lets try to find some good news here.

We have an opportunity to develop Glennon and see if he is our starter next year.
We will probably get a high draft pick.
    Our defense has improved greatly.
    Crabtree comes back.
We have some money that would have gone to Freeman to pay for either a QB or TE or WR or a combination.
We will most likely make some offensive adjustments.
    Ogletree is gone.
    No serious injuries.
    Playing close
Demps is on board & we got him cheap

  41. Patrickbucs Says:

It all started in the pre-season IMO. They were always flat and didnt look at all prepared. They barely played the starters, game 1 against the Jets was like a pre-season game for the Bucs. Schiano repeatedly said his wasn’t worried about it and his team was prepared.

Offensively they have looked pretty much horrible the whole season, that does have to fall on the coach at least for half of the blame. Regardless who was playing QB last year or this year the offense doesn’t look at really any position. They all seemed to have regressed.

  42. Mach Says:

Well I guess best thing we can all do is support the team and hope for the best. Miracles do happen..lol maybe the saints go on a losing streak and we win some games we could just sneak in.. It’s a long shot but still a shot.

If not we start again next year with a new HC and a new GM and hope the glazers don’t swing for the fences with their pick..

  43. Architek Says:

The point is Freebow never became the coach’s extension on the field and there was always trust issues.

  44. Sharon Says:

I hope they prove the leaks came from frees camp and sue them all into bankruptcy. That bum killed our season with his circus and possibly the next few seasons. They say never wish for a player to get hurt, but I hope someone on the field takes him out permanently!!!

  45. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

    @ Mach

Exactly right…as fans that’s all we can really do….hope.
All things are possible…we do have some talent…and for that I thank the owners. I think they are very reluctant to yank the plug on Schiano prematurely…they have a great deal invested in him and his staff and FAs….I think he is on a longer leash with them than most would like.

  46. PewterPirate Says:

I’m so tired of hearing that people think Freeman was not allowed to run the ball. In Freeman’s first year 95% of the runs that he made were improvised on passing plays. Instead of forcing the ball in he would take off but he didn’t do that anymore. I can guarantee you that the coaches didn’t tell Freeman “we don’t want you to run as much so instead try to force it into a receiver who isn’t open.” He needed to go and although Glennon was a mixed bag in his first start, he looked as least as good as Freeman has looked and he is a rookie instead of a 5 year veteran.

I blame everyone on this team for the way things have started and Schiano get’s a lot because he is the head coach but we honestly should be 3-1. Is it coaching? Yes. Is it bad luck? Yes. Is it stupid plays by the players? Yes. There is enough blame to go around. Schiano has come out and said that it all falls on him and that we will correct it. I think there will be a day when these losses become wins but it’s got to be sooner than later. Schiano is a defensive HC and there has been a huge turnaround on that side of the ball so he is doing something right. I was glad he came out and said that although he wants to know what’s going on in every phase, he lets his assistant coaches coach.

The thing that I can’t stand is the circus this has become. It all centers around Freeman, just being 0-4 wouldn’t cause close to this but it doesn’t help. Freeman and camp did enough damage to get his release IMO. Hopefully the cancer has been removed and now we can just focus on football. We still have a ton of talent, lets just put it to good use and win some damn games!

  47. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

    @ Pewter Pirate

Absolutely…a cancer…there is a reason why they didn’t wait until the trade deadline…and it wasn’t just to “Free” up a roster spot.
I also agree on Freeman running…I think he decided to quit.
    Bad plays,bad luck bad Coaching…0-4.

  48. 911bucs Says:

If our offense is so vanilla and simple why doesn’t the offense be spot on with it? I’m saying if it is so easy there should very minimal mistakes, and everyone should be on the same page, know their routes, what gap to hit, where your check down is.

  49. jose Says:

I can’t believe how blind people can be! This circus of leaks was created by Freeman’s camp,he wanted out of town because he got pulled and that was the quick way to get released. Now remember he is still gonna get paid so why not do it. If you really look at the stories not one of them is making Josh look that bad and they always had a reasons for which he missed the meetings or was in some program so it looked like he had to defend himself from the bucs . They said you either release me or you are going to have a mess in your hands, that’s how agents think and that’s how this looks like to me. Funny how as soon as Free got released the mess stopped and all the stink left like he hadn’t taken a shower in a year. That’s just how the public relations and business works guys is just business not personal…lol

  50. King Diamond Says:

@ buccaneerbonzai of course Sullivan installed the offense but the last time I checked Shianos the head coach and approved it. You must think he’s a bigger idiot than even I thought.

  51. P'cola Buc Says:

Perhaps it is time for Schiano and the Bucs to keep an open mind from this point going forward. I really hope Glennon does well and develops. But if he only shows mediocre progress lets not replay the next 5 years like we did with Freeman. It would be a real waste and the fans want something to cheer about. Let’s not compromise and let’s get the best QB in the draft. Perhaps Bridgewater. I happen to like The Ducks QB Mariota..What say you?

  52. RCS Says:

So what is the solution Joe?
Morris was a players coach and they ran over top of him and he lost the locker room to the point it showed so badly on the field on TNF that it got called out by Deion and Irvin.
They Bring in Schiano who is a strict coach and doesn’t just want to be their boy and he is loosing the locker room.
What more can they do? at some point these players need to play and perform.

  53. Leon Says:

The dumb get dumber.. Peter King like Schiano how he still has a job when clearly he’s an idiot that has no merit running his mouth. Yet Joe you can’t help but post this trash.

  54. Goodolebucfan Says:

Sharon your a moron you don’t know where the leaks came from. Your just a Freeman hater. Hopefully he goes to a good coach and then one day we will know if it was him or poor coaching. Would never wish an injury on anyone.
People Freeman is gone move on think of more excuses to cover up for this control freak coach. I know as a coach it is great to be organized and prepared but when you have your hands in everything and try to control everything it don’t work. He has his hands all in the offense. He about killed Doug Martin in his last game. This teams offense is so predictable and vanilla it is easy to defend its not the QB. I don’t want to hear he has the defense playing so great he went out and spent so much money on free agents getting two pro bowlers drafted pretty much all defense. He makes no adjustments at half time even tho he has the largest coaching staff in the NFL to help him make those adjustments. Even Raheem would make adjustments at half time. This years record will be worse then last year with the addition of the two pro bowlers. So you can put your toes on the line turn the AC down to 68 and serve the right pasta all you want this is a sinking ship glad the capt goes down with the ship!

  55. Buccaneer Rick Says:

have been quite upset with the constant ganging up of the Spots Radio Community on Greg Schiano. et me get this across. I am a Buc fan. I am not necessarily a Greg Schiano fan, nor am I necessarily a Josh Freeman fan. I am a BUC fan. The benching of Josh Freeman I feel was MORE than warranted. I think Archie Manning said it best a little while back. “If you are still asking yourselves if he’ll be a good QB 5 years into his career, then he’s not going to be a good QB”. Enough said there. I think Shiano started Freeman the first couple of games to see if he could turn it around because this team is built to win now and he didn’t feel that Glennon was ready. But at this point, our chances to win with either B were about equal. The big difference is that with Josh playing, you know he is not going to be the future and you pretty much know what you will be getting with him. With Glennon, he is expected to get better the more experience he gets so why not roll with him? If you oust Schiano now after just one season, you are looking t bringing in a new coach, with new assistant coaches, a new scheme, play book and everything starts anew. Schiano’s system is already in place. His players have all been assimilated and now they just need to execute. Remember, he didn’t draft Josh. Word around the NFL was that if the Bucs didn’t draft Josh, he my have gone undrafted. At the end of the day we have to look at Schiano with the wide lens. For those people that say he is a ‘Bad Coach’ and we are worse with him, you are idiots. This team WS a laughing stock under Raheem Morris. After Schiano took over you started to see a change If not for the growing pains in the secondary and Josh giving it up at the end of the season, this was a playoff caliber team. We could have easily finished the season 9-7 or even 10-6 if not for a couple of last second comebacks and poor play from our QB. And this season? Yes, we are 0-4. But nobody that has watched this season can tell me this team could not have easily been at the very least 3-1. We’ve made some horrible mistakes and penalties have killed us not to mention poor play by our QB. But this defense is outstanding and they are not playing like a team that has turned on it’s coach. The offense has a lot of talent and weapons and it’s just a matter of everything clicking before this team has the ability to go on a run. By getting rid of Freeman this team still has a chance to right the ship now and finish strong. By getting rid of the coach you are throwing in the towel on this year and maybe the next couple to start over unless we hire another Jon Gruden who could come in, fix a few problems on the fly and win right away. And there’s another coach that we ran out of town too (even though he brought us our only Superbowl) and we’ve struggled ever since. Schiano is a good friend and a student of Bill Belichick. Remember that Bill was run out of Cleveland as he was learning the NFL ropes. He landed in New England and how have things turned out for them? All I am saying is we give Schiano a chance to bring his plan, with his players to life and judge from there. I think 3 years is long enough to grade a coach and so far if you look at where we are as a team now, compared to where we were when he took over (minus the record of course) then we are in a better place now. Stay the course.

  56. bucrightoff Says:

We are a good QB away from being a playoff team and a great one away from being a Super Bowl team. People are acting like we’re the worst team in the league by far and that its disarray and a mess. Newsflash: If we scored 1 more field goal a week, we’re 3-1. No team ever can win with an offense producing 8 points a game, it just isn’t possible.

Freeman, ignoring the stats, is a mediocre QB. Watch him play and you’ll see a guy staring down receivers, not making any reads, never looking safeties or DBs off, never making presnap adjustments, holding onto the ball far too long, throwing of his back foot and throwing late, and with some of the poorest short and mid range accuracy in the league. Having maybe the best deep ball in the league is nice, but thats not gonna covert you a 3rd and 5.

  57. clafollett Says:

The truth is somewhere in the middle. Both parties can be faulted.

With that said, let’s not forget Josh had a crappy season before Schiano got here which is what ultimately led to Raheem getting canned. Coincidence Josh still sucks? Too many late night parties? We may never know.

@Paul mentioned above he didn’t believe Josh was the choir boy his camp was making him out to be and I have to agree. I’m sure there is more to this story than we are being allowed to know.

I can say this, I was routinely seeing slow, indecisive, scared, and confused play from Josh in preseason and in the first three games. This cannot be put on Schiano or Dom. That’s Josh’s responsibility to get his head in the game.

I also think much of the circus we saw this past week was a result of the front office. Schiano was willing to stick with Josh on Monday but then there was an abrupt turn around. That seems to be very un-Schiano like. I have to believe the Glazers and/or Dominick we feeling the fan pressure from places like JoeBucsFan and the national media. Their only option was to end it and move on.

Ok Glennon, its your time to shine. O-Line, step up your play and make some holes. There is still time to salvage the season. There are a lot of really bad teams this year and I really think a 9-7 team can make it. Going 9-3 the rest of the way is possible if the WHOLE TEAM steps up.

    GO BUCS!!!

  58. Chris Says:

    Joe,

I think the bucs tried to replace him multiple times. Missed on casell, mallet was too much and Palmer went to Arizona.

He tolerated josh bc he could not replace him. The last option was mike glennon. There were no legitimate options out there. And Washington is not going to let cousins go unless its a 1st or 2nd round pick.

  59. Chris Says:

Everyone wants to point fingers at schiano. However the browns just lost their qb and worked out Tyler thigpen over josh freeman. That says ALOT

The point is Freebow never became the coach’s extension on the field and there was always trust issues.

The truth squad approves and endorses the above posts.
And Joe, to you point of conclusion, Schiano needs a win against Philly in the worst possible way.

  62. Jim Says:

Wrong. Schiano has made this a rebuilding year. Actually Nicks, Jackson, Revis, Joseph, and even maybe McCoy will be off the team before we will have rebuilt this team.

  63. hectorvas Says:

Schiano went on air and admtted that he has his say on offense. How can Freeman and even Sully work with that guy overriding plays? He has no business sticking his nose on our offense. This arrogant dicktator has ruined two promising seasons now. The end of last year, and of course this circus year.

I cant believe he called out raheem saying he made us a laughing stock. What a classless arogant prick. No wonder half or most of the NFL hates his butt. Just read the Mike Silver article.

  64. Cody Says:

During his stretch of terrible play going back to last season going into this season, not once did I here Freeman step up to the plate and say “(I) didn’t play well, or (I) need to play better”… there’s not self accountability at all with this dude…and the way he handled the whole benching thing proved that imho…

Drops by WR’s happen (it’s part of the game) but how many times have we seen him completely overthrow/underthrow wide open receivers…excuse me if I pass on the Freeman pity party; as someone said earlier in this post he played his way out of town…

As far as Schaino is concerned I still believe he’s the man for the job…we just need string together some wins and we can only do that with some CoNsiStancY! from the QB position….

I made a statement after the 2011 season the Cam Newton would never match the numbers he put up his rookie year and now Freeman has convinced me that he will never match the numbers he put up in 2010…Freeman is a Supreme DuD…

  65. Bobby Says:

For the people who want to compare the Saints going 4-0 and the Chiefs going 4-0 lets take a close look at that. Is it just Peyton and Andy Reid?? Didn’t the Saints improve their defense with the addition of Rob Ryan and draft for defense? Didn’t the Chiefs get a new QB??? It’s real convenient to mention coaching and leave out the change of QB’s to Alex Smith. The defense of the Saints absolutely sucked last year. Drew Brees could not win with a defense that porous. The Chiefs had good players (9 pro bowlers or something like that) but had no QB. This year I see us as being closer to the Chiefs. Our defense is stout but our QB play has just held us back.

It amazes me how after 5 years everyone is so quick to blame Freeman on the coaching but after one game they KNOW Mike Glennon is a bust and blame Schiano for all of our woes. I’m not one of those people. I believe Glennon could make a huge difference in our offense. He absolutely CAN throw the deep ball but first we need a receiver that can get open deep. That didn’t happen against Arizona. He made a bad decision on the pick but that’s OK. He’ll learn from that. All rookie QB’s make those mistakes. The thing about Glennon is I like the way he takes what the defense gives him and makes quick decisions. I didn’t see him staring down receivers (except on the pick) and he’s not afraid to stand in the pocket and take a hit.

I don’t know how Glennon will pan out. My gut feeling tells me he’s got skills similar to Matt Ryan. If he turns out to be stubborn like Freeman and not develop then we have lot’s of choices in the draft to get a potential franchise QB. At any rate, this is not Schiano’s circus as much as it is Freeman’s circus. He got what he deserved, to be benched and then because of the way he handled being benched….to be cut loose.

  66. Chris Says:

Remember just 2 years ago this was a team that quit on Raheem Morris bc there was no discipline. I still don’t see it this year. I don’t see a team that’s quit on their coach for how hard they’ve played.

Schiano needs a qb. Josh freeman wasn’t it. And if you morons think glennon is his guy, think twice. They’ve tried multiple attempts to get a vet qb last offseason. Glennon was last resort that got what they wanted to do.

  67. Couch Fan Says:

“I think that we’ve only gotten one side of the story — the side of the story that says Greg Schiano is a total nincompoop, idiot, you know, just a bad human being, spy, all that stuff.

    ———————————————

That is actually 2 sides of this story. Freeman’s and the Freemanites who paint this loser QB to be some kind of victim. The only one attempting to keep quite and do his job is Schiano.

Schiano is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. We all know that IF Schiano got rid of Freeman during the off-season, all hell would of broke loose. The Freemanites would of declared us losers and a losing organization before the season even started.

All this second guessing is really stupid. WE ALL agreed that giving Freeman his final year to show he could be good was the right choice. Who in the world preidcted Freeman would come out and be the 33rd best QB in the league? C’mon.

  68. Bobby Says:

Another thing that I find absolutely laughable is how upset some of you seem about the Raheem Morris comment from Schiano (even though Schiano never mentioned Morris) Most of you made it your life’s mission to make Raheem Morris a laughing stock in 2011. It was absolutely brutal. You had him as the worst coach in the history of the NFL, etc. You were calling for Dom’s head then for hiring him. You said 2010 was a fluke because we never beat a team with a winning record. Our defense was an absolute joke. Do you forget 45-0 at halftime in the Atlanta game??? Now Schiano makes a comment and you want to get all indignant. LOL! Spare me…..

We may be losing for the moment but teams know they have been in a football game. They have to scratch and claw for every yard they get and we are no joke on defense. On offense we just need to give Schiano a chance to do what he did on defense. Now that Freeman is gone the excuses are gone. We have to see improvement and we have to see it right now. I don’t know if it’s Sully or what but I doubt if our offensive woes are Schiano. He may ask for a run or a pass in certain situations but he is not designing the plays. Our problems on offense are more concept than anything else. A lot of the plays are just poorly designed and then implemented in a manner that is just way too predictable. My guess is that if Glennon doesn’t pan out, Schiano will stay for another year but Sullivan will go and a new QB will be drafted.

  69. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

    @ Bobby

Agree…don’t know if Glennon is the answer but Freeman sure wasn’t.
I like what I see so far…..mostly the intelligence and short pass accuracy.
One thing that may also help is that Schiano trusts Glennon…even if he makes some mistakes.
OK…so defenses are going to make Glennon beat them….lets let the kid play. They may get what they asked for.

  70. Bobby Says:

    @TBBF…

OK…so defenses are going to make Glennon beat them….lets let the kid play. They may get what they asked for.

    ________________________________________________________________

Yeah, I hope so. I was impressed with his first outing. I liked his accuracy on those short passes and that will only get better. In today’s NFL the way to win is to take what the defense gives you and Glennon can do that with his accuracy on the shorter routes. I know he can go up top if he has to. I’ve seen his college tape and he’s got good touch on the deep throws once he gets his timing down with V-Jax and Williams. The run game will get going if we loosen the defenses up with play action and burn them a few times.

  71. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

BuccaneerBonzi- you are a truly clueless poster, for all your loquaciousness

This is a direct quote from NFL X and so expert, Greg Bedard

“And, in what has been a Greg Schiano staple since his Rutgers days, the Buccaneers’ scheme is outdated, unimaginative and too reliant on short plays. The short and intermediate passing game that is so crucial in today’s NFL is essentially nonexistent in Tampa’s system. It’s difficult to win without it. ”

Don’t know what to add to that. This was posted here yesterday, under “Rutgers offense”.
The idiots will blame whatever QB we have playing. But it’s obvious that the scheme is the Problem

    Schianos scheme.

WE DO NOT RUN THE GIANTS OFFENSE!!
Let that sink in your hollow head for a bit

We run the wretched Rutgers offense. The one that couldn’t win .500 against lil colleges in the North east.

You Zombies have it backwards. We are running the Rutgers offense- and a hybrid of the Giants defense. Sheridan is running the Defense. Schiano installed his wretched lil Rutgers Offense.
Schiano denies this- because his offense was highly criticized At Rutgers!!!
He’s lying- but that’s who he is.
Goggle ” NFL Exec says Schiano is a Bully”, to see who Schiano really is!

Read” Rutgers Offense” posted here Wednesday. Written by an unbiased analyst .

Are stay ignorant, and keep posting lies that you are being fed by the lil General.

  73. BirdDoggers Says:

Give Tebow a starting gig for a season. Does he pass for 4,000 yards? I don’t think so. Freemans QB rating and passing completion percentage were sub par, but I have to believe a vanilla, one dimensional offense had something to do with it. Freeman was a much better QB when he rolled out of the pocket. Schiano’s offensive philosophy didn’t allow him to do that apparently. I’m not saying Freeman doesn’t have to shoulder some blame though. Schiano is the man at the helm. He must find a way to maximize the talent on the roster. He hasn’t proven himself in that regard. He’s consistently outcoached, and that’s a problem.

  74. Snook Says:

This season is a giant shiz sandwich.

  75. Howard Bass Says:

Peter King is just defending him because he’s a fellow New Jersian. He’s been a schill for Greg Schiano since the Bucs hired him because King loves Rutgers. His columns and opinions become more irrelevant with each passing season. He’s an outdated Northeast liberal media elitist who’s time has come to go, along with Greg Schiano.

  76. Capt. Tim Says:

Those of you planting your lips on Schiano’s rear, will soon figure out what the rest of the league- and our players- already know.

This guy is a joke. A rude, dictatorial, clueless joke.

The reports are still coming out of Tampa.” The Sports News” published Friday that Schiano has lost the Locker Room. The NFL is currently conducting an investigation on the release of Confidential Info.

And this is an Off week.

  77. Couch Fan Says:

Some of you are under some delusion that 4000 makes you a great QB.

Where’s Raph with his “At least 15 teams would LOVE to have Freeman”?

Captain Timmy swore we could get a 2nd round pick for Freebow. How’s that prediction working out for you Timmy? I know, I know. It’s all the “lil general’s” fault. Blah blah, cry cry.

Perhaps you should focus less on insults and more on not saying asinine things and more people might take you seriously.

  78. Capt. Tim Says:

    Bird dogger/ yup. Exactly

Freeman asked to be traded, before the Draft. He wisely wanted no part of this pathetic offense.

They should have traded him, and gotten something for him. Freeman was a mobile, running, roll out QB.
Schiano demanded that he stay in the pocket. Not Run. Not Roll out.
    Not Freeman’s game

Freeman won 10 games in one season.
Schiano won’t win 10 games in his career!!

No one player causes a team to lose 10 out of 11 games.
    Nobody.

That’s bad coaching. And that’s what we are stuck with.

  79. Christopher Says:

Talk passing yards all you want, two thing matter for a QB—QB rating, & W-L %…

    Freeman 78.8 .406
    Tebow 75.3 .500

So make of that what you will…I just know Tebow took the 2nd worst team (4-12), & took it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. While people like Josh & Carson Palmer are better passers…but make the key error at the key time, & neither has a playoff win. But for you stud franchise QB to only be 3 points & change in QB rating career-wise than a guy unemployed is not good.

  80. Couch Fan Says:

Schiano demanded that he stay in the pocket. Not Run. Not Roll out.
    Not Freeman’s game

    —————————-

Now didnt you just accuse someone of lying… where’s your proof to back this comment up?

  81. bucfan999 Says:

The Bucs tried in the off season to pick up another veteran QB. We know for a fact that the tried to get Carson Palmer, Matt Cassel, Ryan Mallet, etc. If they had been successful there is no doubt in my mind that Freeman would have been traded. But they were unsuccessful in getting another veteran QB and thus decided to try to make it work with Freeman this year and groom Glennon. Sadly that was unsuccessful also since Freeman SUCKED WIND and couldn’t complete passes, read defenses or show up for meetings and team functions.
At the end of last season Schiano went to Dominik and said we need a new #3 WR, a TE, New DB’s and a new QB. Mark Dominik went out and got Kevin Ogletree (#3 WR), Tom Crabtree (TE), Darrelle Revis & Dashon Goldson (DB’s) and no veteran QB (only Mike Glennon in the draft). Now Ogletree was a bust and Crabtree has been hurt but Revis and Goldson have played well. Not getting a veteran QB and sticking with Freeman (who Dominik is tied to since he drafted him) has set us back a year.
Schiano will be back next year without a doubt. He has turned the Defense around in 2 years and next year will fix the offense, He will draft or get in FA a TE and if Glennon falters he will get us a franchise QB to lead us into the future. Freeman SUCKED and was a total bust, he is at best a decent backup QB in the NFL and maybe a starter in the CFL.

  82. Capt. Tim Says:

Couch- as always, you are a dumba**

You are just crying, because you’re “winning with Glennon” campaign is showing how ignorant you are!! You said Glennon would “win out””

A rookie!!! In the Rugers offense!!!
Lmfao at you Couch. You finally showing up around here again? I asked on several post, where you were hiding, after Glennons, 120yard, 2 interception performance!! Lol!!

And no, zombie. I said if we had traded Freeman before your lil Emperor started his smear campaign- we could have gotten a pick for him.

Instead- the lil Emperor screwed that up too!!

How many wins you predicting for”Winning Glennon” now, oh great predicator of QBs? Lol

  83. Doc Says:

Base on what i have read, the Buc’s should start winning, now that Freeman is gone. o-1 so far,we shall see.

  84. Couch Fan Says:

Again, you blame Schiano with NO proof whatsoever. So since you feel it’s your right to call people liars who dont agree with your conspiracy theory. You also are a lying piece of sh!t.

As far as Glennon goes. I’m not hiding. I’ve been here laughing at the stupidity.

Yea I had faith in Glennon. So what? You are bashing me for actually believing in our team? LMAO

C’mon lil timmy, where’s your proof that Schiano started this smear campaign? Where’s your proof that Schiano is the one who told Freeman not to run, roll out blah blah blah.

All you seem to be able to do is name call and lay blame on Schiano with no proof other than what you heard on TV. LOL and you call us zombies.

We want a punishing running game. Along with a QB that gets good pocket protection, and attacks Defenses down the field.”

That’s the Rutgers offense- that he has used unsuccessfully at every place he’s coached. Pocket passer. No short game. No real use of TE or Slot Reciever. Not many plays throwing to backs.

Run. Run, throw a long pass- that’s usually incomplete.

    Sound familiar?

Keep watching”Winning Glennon”! You’ll be chanting that routine in yer sleep

    Bucfan999,
You seem to have that conversation between Schiano and Dom memorized? It’s never been” revealed” to the rest of us!
Were you under Dom’s desk?? Lol
So you are saying, that after having the worst pass defense in history, Schiano “asked” for a Cb and safety??
Wow- you and Schiano are both Geniuses!!!! Lol
Seems I recall Schiano saying that a TE and Slot Reciever weren’t important in his offense . .

Probably helps explain that 10 game losing streak he’s got going. That genius offense he’s running!!

  86. hectorvas Says:

“Everyone wants to point fingers at schiano. However the browns just lost their qb and worked out Tyler thigpen over josh freeman. That says ALOT”

Ever think that maybe Freeman doesnt want to play for the Browns? He already got the rest of his moneyIf I was him, after the circus he was put in, I would take the season off, work on mechanics with that guy in Bradenton, weinke, or whover, and get ready for Free Agency.

  87. hectorvas Says:

I’m actually curious to see how Glennon works out. But if Schiano went through 10 QBs in 12 years at Rutgers, I have major doubts to how another “Schiano qb” works out.

  91. Bobby Says:

    @Doc..

    _____________________________________________________________

I hope so. I know everyone wants to talk about Schiano coming from Rutgers and how he was only 68-67 while there but that is very misleading. When he came to Rutgers they weren’t just ‘not good’ or ‘horrible’ they were absolutely abysmal. Their football program was non-existent in terms of recruiting and talent. Schiano came in and went 12-34 his first four years but when he got his recruiting program in place and things started clicking he went 56-33 his next 7 years while winning 5 bowl games and cranking out a ton of NFL talent. I’m sure Rutgers is happy they had a little patience with Schiano at the beginning. I just hope we exhibit the same kind of patience because I believe he’ll start to win and when he does it will continue.

  92. hectorvas Says:

“Peter King is just defending him because he’s a fellow New Jersian.”

Be careful, so is Joe. Just sayin.

  93. Paul Says:

I do remember Schiano or Freeman at a PC saying something along the lines that he doesn’t want his QB running. But what’s the problem with that? He’s trying to implement a system where the QB stays in the pocket and progresses through his reads and hit the weak point in the defense. Josh didn’t work out in the system and apparently most other team’s aren’t looking for an ad-lib QB either.

  94. Couch Fan Says:

At least some of us know the reality of the matter. We don’t have to convince ourselves that he’s Belicheck Jr. and Glennon is Matt Ryan II.

Last Sunday we held the ball 10 minutes longer than the cards. We won the time of possession but lost the game. The offense did move the ball and for the first time this year the defense spent time on the bench. 1 of Glennons picks was a result of being hit as he threw the ball. He also had a few chances that he could have ran and picked up a first down but didn’t. He must become a threat to run if he is going to keep defenses honest or it is going to be a long year. Pin your ears back boys we are facing Tampa and the “Pocket passing only QB Glennon, rookie fresh meat”. He will not survive the trip to Seattle.

So you’re telling me that the pocket passers in the NFL are doomed huh? Somebody better notify Manning, Brees, Ryan, Stafford, and all the other top passers in the league. It’s nice to have a mobile QB but certainly not necessary to be effective. You just have to have a quick release and receivers that can get open. A good O-line certainly helps. Glennon may be a rookie but I don’t believe he’ll play like a rookie for long.

Let’s stop with Dom, although Dom is not excused and should be held accountable for the talent on the team. Schiano kept olgetree and let go of underwood. This team is really no better than it was two years ago. Also, that crap about tampa being a laughing stock. His team now is a laughing stock. Was that a shot at Dom, the tampa area, the bucs? I have about had enough of his crap. Just opinion.

  104. Rob Says:

It’s nice to finally have a counterpoint in the press to all of the utter crap we’ve been dragged through over the last 3 or so weeks.

  105. hectorvas Says:

“Everyone wants to point fingers at schiano. However the browns just lost their qb and worked out Tyler thigpen over josh freeman. That says ALOT”

Have you ever thought that maybe Freeman doesn’t WANT that job? So to save face, the browns said they werent interested in Freeman. Plus Freeman just got paid. He went through the most bizzare year in Bucs history, so I dont blame him if he wants to sit out the rest of the year, work on his game and mechanics. And prepare for free agency.

(I could have sworn I typed this already, but it looks like it got deleted. What the?)

    That made no sense whatsoever.

    LMAO

Yea. Freeman is so good he can just sit back and choose which job he wants from the long list of employers that is just banging down his door to acqure his services and when he wants to play for them.

    Comical.

  108. bucrightoff Says:

If the Browns offered Freeman a job and he passed, he might as well pack his bags and start his CFL career. I mean really? Josh Freeman has lost upwards of $50 million in contract money through his play and will not be getting a starting job handed to him and will likely be a backup going forward, and yet he “passed” on a job that could showcase his skills and earn him more money and the potential to get a starting job again?

I mean is this JoeBucsFan or JoeInfoWars fan? Think your crazy theories through before posting them.

  109. Rob Says:

This stat line about Freeman’s QBR being worse than Tebow’s over their last 10 respective starts is MIND BOGGLING. Tebow’s a guy that no NFL team will have, and somehow Tampa fans think Freeman is the next coming of Brett Favre.

Meanwhile, there aren’t any teams rushing to sign Freeman. Not even the Jaguars or Browns will bring him in as a backup or third stringer.

  110. hectorvas Says:

woah. I’m noticing a few of my comments getting deleted. Thats not cool. Hopefully just a computer glitch. Or maybe this is a schiano friendly website? Eh. Probably just a glitch.

He just banked $6 million. Would YOU be in a rush to play for the Cleveland Browns? After being trashed by your team, dragged through the mud. I would take a nice month long vacation and get ready for free agency. No matter what 6 figure contract the Browns most likely offered him. Man youre an id – not too bright.

    Think before you speak.

  112. hectorvas Says:

Yeah. This website used to be MGM territory. Now it has turned into Schiano Defense Central.

Whats it gonna take for you guys to see the light? Another 4-8 weeks? Well then it’ll be Sullivans fault. So another 12 weeks. But then it’ll be Dominiks fault. SMDH

    ________________________________________________________________

Are you serious?? Freeman will sign with the first team to even sniff his way. Cleveland would be a good team to play for. Up and coming team that just needs a good QB and they have two 1st round picks next year. Yeah….I’m sure he’s pass on that team. After all, he has so much to offer with his high QB rating and win % that he can afford to be picky.

  114. Couch Fan Says:

Lol oh. I see I am so wrong now.

So according to your theory Freeman cares nothing about playing football and only cares about the 6 million he stole from the Bucs.

Hmm, weird because If he were to sign with another team… he would only add to that 6 million.

Take your own advice. Think before YOU speak.

  115. Rob Says:

Doesn’t matter if Freeman is in a rush to play for the Cleveland Browns or not, they aren’t interested in offering him a job.

And yes, Freeman should be doing his best to get himself on a roster so that he doesn’t spend nearly a year out of football.

  116. hectorvas Says:

Are YOU serious? If he signs with a (crappy) team mid-season, has to learn a new playbook in a matter of days, that’ll only hurt his Free Angency status next year. If he sits the rest of the year out, trains with Weinke or whoever, creates a buzz, his stock will rise. USE YOUR BRAINS PEOPLE!

  117. TAC Says:

“then why did Schiano stick with him in 2013?”

Even one of the Joe’s eyes in training camp this year saw this guy slinging darts.

He, or Dominick stuck by him, maybe both with the owners, and fans hoping he could break through the inconstancy. He didn’t, and is gone, rightfully so.

We’ll see if Glennon can manage some wins, because right now, he is all that is available.

Freeman was/is a failure at this point in his career.

  118. Couch Fan Says:

If he signs with a team, he most likely will not be a FA next year.

Again take your own advice. Think before you speak.

  119. hectorvas Says:

There’s no getting though to ignorant. Just like with Schiano, there’s no getting through to arrogant and stubborn.

Freeman can afford to turn down $700,000-$1,000,000. He risks looking even WORSE with a desparate crappy team learning a new offense, then you can guarantee his Free Agency stock will plummet faster than the Bucs 2013 season.

He is better off, in the long term – something you guys are incapable of seeing, if he sits out this season, improves his mechanics, he’s only 25! Plus time away will only distance himself from the Bucs and Schiano’s circus, like prison time distanced Vick from, well, all that mess. Freeman will re-emerge in 2014, a few teams will take a chance on a multi year deal with him, unlike the 1 year minimum he would get from someone in 2013.

What are you? A short bus rider?

If a team signs him this year, it’ll only be a one-year commitment. Which would mean? Anyone? Glennon?? Which would mean??

But according to you he is so good. Certainly a crappy team would be willing to offer him more than a measly 12 game contract. Dont you think?

Yes. Yes… only crappy players get offered 12 game contracts. Is Freeman a crappy player?

Lol, come little guy. If you weren’t so concerned with insulting me, you might actually make some sense.

  123. buc4lyfe Says:

Nobody cares about his opinion, what leaked and why, these things well eventually come out as they usually do. Doesn’t matter if reports are true or not which will be seen in how we play on Sundays because just like he told Freeman this is a performance based business. The scheme want a good enough excuse for Freeman, having a rookie qb won’t be good enough for schiano and Dominick. No matter the circumstances your judged on wins and losses

  124. bucrightoff Says:

What do you mean he risks looking even WORSE?????? According to you he is an equal to Manning, Brady & Rodgers! What team would not want Josh Freeman?????

Wait……According to “ProFootballtalk” teams aren’t exactly breaking down doors to talk to Freeman. According to Charley Casserly on NFL Network…”Josh Freeman had a poor completion % in college and he’s gotten worse in the Pros” There is no way he won’t look WORSE…..Face the facts of life JOSH FREEMAN IS A BACKUP QB IN THE NFL AND AT BEST A STARTING CFL QB!! He is Tim Tebow without the religious stuff.

  128. hectorvas Says:

I think Peter King is using a smart tactic. Go against the grain, regarding Schiano, and get attention from other news outlets (no offense Joe). But I doubt that King really believes half of what he said. He’s going for clicks. But I believe in our owners. I think they have a plan that they aren’t sharing outside of family. I think Dominik has dug his own grave when he sided with Schiano instead of doing his best to remain neutral regarding Freeman’s benching. Now he just comes off as weak, or Schiano is just that intimidationg. But the Glazer’s have a plan.

    ***********

Yeah, I saw his tweet. That move is possible.

He already knows the offense. And he won’t be thrown into the fire. He could sit-out a few weeks as a back-up to Pryor.

  131. Bobby Says:

    @hectorvas…

You are one clueless dude! LOL! Oh well, they allow anyone to post on here and sometimes it’s the most ignorant who act like the most knowledgeable.
To act like any QB would want to sit out a year because it would enhance their status is monumentally stupid. Next year’s QB class is deep and teams are going to be going to the draft. Freeman has the rest of this year to get on a team and prove that all he needed was a change of scenery. Just what exactly do you think Freeman has on his resume that he can afford to just sit out a year and turn down offers??!? Forget the money newb. It’s not about the money, it’s about preserving and continuing his career in the NFL. If you are out of sight you are out of mind in this league pal. He’ll be lucky to find a job this year and I guarantee you that the first team that offers him a deal, he’ll take it. You may be stupid but his agent isn’t.

  132. bucrightoff Says:

Yeah he isn’t sitting out a few weeks behind Pryor. Pryor has shown very good potential this season, he’s the Raiders QB for the foreseeable future, at least until the end of next year. He’s basically the better running, more accurate version of Josh Freeman.

  133. PRBucFan Says:

Add in Schianos rediculous excuse for an offense . .
If he makes it three weeks, it’s a miracle.
I feel bad for him, if you want to know the truth.
At least Josh was strong and mobile.
And he wanted no part of “the Rotten Rutgers Offense”

    Good luck, kid

” Never seen such a tantrum from a starting QB that gets benched before.

WHAT Tantrum ? All I Recall from him is a missed meeting, missing the team picture, an unauthorized interview, and ( HORRORS!!! ) sitting in his own suite instead of the one Schiano wanted him in. During which no-one heard a single public utterance by him of anything against Schiano or the Bucs. I just don’t see what makes him a ‘cancer’. Before you jump on me about the leak, you don’t have a clue who did it, any more than anyone else does. ESPN will protect the source of the leak to the bitter end, so unless they were stupid enough to do it in front of witnesses we’ll never know. Everything else I read here is a bad guess based on who the writer thinke is at ‘fault’ for this whole mess. Personally, I blame both sides, for being unable to adapt to each other, but ultimatly it’s the head coach’s responsibility to do what it takes to win. I think Free will find success elsewhere, IF he can find a Coach who can use his talents & minimize his faults. As for the Bucs, my prediction is that Schiano will be gone next year, and Glennon will be replaced for next year, either due to injury , or the draft. I take no pleasure in it, & hope to hell I’m totally wrong, but I’ll be at the Stadium cheering them on either way.

    Go Bucs !!!

  137. Couch Fan Says:

    @Lil timmy

your judging a guy by 1 game. How about shutting your mouth and giving him… oh i dont know, a few dozens starts.

Yes Freeman won his first start. Again, I’ll repeat myself, so what? He hasent done a lot of winning since then. Freeman is a known loser. Deal with it.

Jury is still out on Glennon. Except to the Freemanites who hate the guy only because he took Freeman’s job due to inept play. Lol

Keep crying for us lil timmy.

  138. Ed Says:

Every one is talking about how this coach has change the defense since coach Morris, days. He should the Glazer’s spent close to one hundred Million dollars . Give me that much money and i will have the number rank defense in the n.f.l. without a hundred coaches.

  139. PRBucFan Says:

    @Ed

LOL Of course anything but actually giving Schiano credit.

  140. Ed Says:

Glennon has that quick release and is intelligent. Freeman had a slow release and never will be able to master a complex offense. What the Bucs have to do to help Glennon succeed is set up plays that allow other players than Jackson and Martin to touch the ball. Jackson doesn’t need to be running 18 yard patterns every down. Both he and Williams have height and by shortening up their routes Glennon can get them the ball. If they are covered look to Page and Demps. Throw on first and second down. Run Martin out of the shotgun. Be unpredictable and this offense can succeed. Don’t put Glennon in 3rd and longs. Those 6-7 yard slants will beat the 8 men in a box every time.

  141. Buccaneer79 Says:

    @CaptTim
I agree with you for the most part. I listen to SiriusXM NFL Radio daily. Jim Miller said it was basically the Giants offense that Sullivan’s trying to run, but let’s not get caught up in that. The basic part of that means pocket passer, a lot of vertical routes downfield, run the ball. It is hard to explain how the offense, despite not being Freeman’s best suited to run, generated the best offensive ranking ever, yet was not consistent enough, or wait, yeah, Freeman not being the prototype for that offense helps explain it, but as Miller said, it doesn’t have a lot of high-percentage pass plays because they take shots down field. Jim & Pat Kirwan both do not understand, as some of us don’t, how Glennon gives them the best opportunity to win. I was only somewhat impressed with the 1st half of the Cards game, but the 2nd half was what I expected.

Schiano/Sullivan wanted Freeman to fit their offense, not to fit the offense around Freeman. Schiano has painted the picture that Freeman was the main problem, but if Glennon, Schiano/Dominik’s guy, fails, the pocket passer required for their system, do you think they will blame themselves solely? No, they will say he’s a rookie who’s getting better, which can be a great excuse for this year only. Next year may not come for this coaching staff & Dominik, if they don’t win enough games. It’s unbelievable how so many people think Glennon is ready to win now, & if that’s not what you meant, then you, like this organization, did not think this through. Look at the schedule: for a rookie QB who will naturally have growing pains, it’s brutal. The Eagles & Rams, maybe, but the rest of it is full of losses. It will truly be brutal for all of us who want to see the team win.

We may never know what really happened that Freeman goes from starter to benched to, literally, excommunicated. It makes one wonder, but there is more to the story.

If this team goes 2-14, is Schiano still the coach that gives the Bucs the best opportunity to win? Say yes to that to expose your inability to live in the real world.

  142. Couch Fan Says:

I can agree with that. IF they go 2 and 14. That’s a long ways away though. We’ll see what happens.

  143. PRBucFan Says:

  147. White Tiger Says:

yeah, Im sure the defense will give him all kinds of respect for trashing their prospects so thoroughly that he was demoted.

Imagine the damage demoting Schiano to DC could do to the “new” HC – after what he did to his own QB…do you honestly think ANYONE on the staff would trust him?!

He hits the bricks after another few losses – running that Big East offense – and his next QB starts throwing even more INT’s.

Lets see if Schiano or Glennon has it in hime to recreate Josh’s record feat of 5 fourth quarter comebacks…
