Underwood Looked Lost

October 13th, 2013

Tiquan Underwood essentially walked off his couch and into the Bucs’ starting lineup today as the No. 2 receiver. Mike Williams was out with a bum hamstring.

Underwood looked lost.

He stopped and came back to the ball on a touchdown route for a ball that sailed past him. It led to an offensive interference call to make matters worse. If Underwood had just kept running, then he likely would have had a touchdown pass in stride.

Undwerood also seemed out of sync on an inside route that was picked off.

But Joe can’t fully blame Underwood. Why was he cut in the first place if he was good enough to get a month off and walk into a starting job? For Joe, this represents a front office screwup — on top of the faith placed in Underwood’s predecessor, Kevin Ogletree.

Perhaps if Underwood is on the roster as the No. 4 or No. 5 receiver all season, he would have been more ready for the huge role he was thrust into today. Another what-if of this ugly Bucs season.

The only reason Underwood dropped anything is because of @Smitty’s racist farts drifting up and permeating his hair.

  2. Kreator Says:

What do u expect from someone who has his hair cropped like an Abraham Lincoln hat

  3. Harry Says:

Yes, Yes, Yes. Underwood looked awful. When we watched him in preseason, he looked good, Today it was clear why he got cut. He looked stupid and clueless on the go route, and picked up the pass interference, OMG!!

Have to agree with you Joe, was this because of the belief they could coach-up “hands of stone” Ogletree? What a fiasco this game was.

    Now THAT is awesome! 🙂

    “Rock star.”

Remember: Dominik picked Ogletree over him. Nice.

Harry. Dix you ware your purple jersey out in public today?

  7. Robbie_G Says:

hat does it say when you cut a guy, bring him back, cut a guy an bring him back, and NOE ONE ELSE GIVES HIM A JOB! this SUCKS

  8. D-Rome Says:

    Fair point, Joe. Good post.

  9. Adam L. Says:

    @harry

I disagree Harry. This is Dominik wanting to give his free agent signing a shot. You see, if Dominik signs Ogletree then cuts him, he’d look dumb(er) for cutting a player he picked and signed on his own.

If you stretch that logic out, it explains why he didn’t sign a DE after letting Bennett walk. It would show he had no faith in his 2nd round “steal” Bowers.

Dominik is a lousy evaluator of talent. There is a paper trail a mile long of just mistake after mistake.

don’t see how dominik can look any dummer with the lack of a te and any wr depth…this org. has turnerd into a complete circus

  11. Gt40bear Says:

How many more “front office screw-ups” is it going to take before somebody in the front office has to pay? Look, I like Dominik and he has made some good moves, but you can’t argue with his won/loss record. I’m beginning to believe a complete and total house cleaning is in order, especially Hickey. Then get Dungy and Gruden to form a hiring committee to restock to franchise. Only halfway kidding on Dungy and Gruden but you get the gist.

I wonder if underwood and Will Smith will go on a reunion tour after the season is over? “Parents just don’t Undersrtand”.

  13. oviedobucsfan Says:

@ Adam L I agree. Bowers has been a bust.

Underwood was drafter in the 2009 seventh round by the JAGS. Guess where he played college ball?????????

    RUTGERS

Look at his freaking picture, what does anybody expect out of somone who thinks that’s a good look? How can any sane person look across a desk at that guy and say”Yep, you’re the answer, you’re hired, when can you start?”.

    Ya think?
Between Dominick & Schiano, I doubt they could figure out how to boil water.
Of course, Who in their right mind would trust them with boiling water?

    This is sooooooooo freaking sad.

When has hairstyle become a determining factor whether or not you can play wide receiver in the NFL?

  18. RAM Says:

Well maybe if he wasn’t at R U Game this past week spending his paycheck on old Nintendo games and other Nintendo accessories then he would have had time to learn the playbook a little better.

  19. Oingo Boingo Says:

Underwood was absolutely horrific. This team has no depth at ANY position.

  20. buc4lyfe Says:

the coach is simply an idiot and keeps proving that he doesnt trust the players that he has and no idea how to develop them. he likes the newest thing, kevin ogletree wasnt better than tiquan in the preseason anyway. then you have eric page and owusu all who are on the roster and have chemistry with glennon but he brings the guy in that hasnt done anything football related for a month and starts him….ahmad black wasnt playing at a probowl level but he gets cut only to put in his backup that couldnt beat him out for that role….stupidity oozing out of one buc place, he should have kept freeman because now he is the one who looks like the idiot, atleast he could have kept blaming the losing on freeman but now that he’s gone and theres a really good qb in there with potential and better accuracy, now everyone can see coaching is the reason this team isnt in the hunt for the playoffs which is why i wanted glennon to start so bad anyway…

the season is a wash anyway so why not fire him and ensure a top 3 pick. getting outcoached by a rookie head coach he had two weeks to prepare for….thats much more embarrassing than freeman’s completion percentage

  21. zam Says:

He can play, he was decent enough last year. At least he wasn’t running in circles as I recall. Did Ahmad Black teach him the routes this year?

But his poor play in this game reflects right back on the coaching staff. Seriously what do these guys do all week? They even had a bye to prepare.

The coaching staff is looking like the Keystone Kops. Way too many bodies and not a one who knows what they should be doing.

  22. MTLBucsFan Says:

What I didn’t understand about cutting Underwood, was that we cut him to make room for Russell Shepard. If Underwood wasn’t better than Shepard coming out of training camp, why is he sudden;y the no. 2 receiver upon his return, while Shepard only really plays special teams? This season has been a complete mess from almost every angle.

  23. Brandon Says:

“Perhaps if Underwood is on the roster as the No. 4 or No. 5 receiver all season, he would have been more ready for the huge role he was thrust into today”

If Underwood made the team, then who would run down and tackle opposing kick returners?

4th and 5th WRs MUST play special teams in the NFL to make the team. This is why Underwood didn’t make the team.
