Schiano Talks 12-Game Winning Streak
October 3rd, 2013The leader of the New Schiano Order typically never wavers in his public approach to a football season. Greg Schiano always, always, always talks about one-game seasons and how that’s the only mindset he has. But not on Monday.
During his weekly radio show, Schiano referenced winning 12 consecutive games out of the bye to close the season.
“Get a little break. Get on a run here. Go for 12 straight, and hopefully we have some more after that,” Schiano said.
Joe found it notable that the head coach stepped out of his core beliefs and talked about the big picture of the current season. Schiano drills it into his players to only talk and think one game at a time. But even he couldn’t stick to that. Humans are humans.
Interestingly, the last great Buccaneers season was built around the exact opposite of a one-game-at-a-time mindset. Raheem Morris’ famous “Race to 10” mantra in 2010 was designed to get players thinking about the big picture.

I hope he doesn’t last that long.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:09 am
Going from Raheem Morris to Greg Schiano, wow us Buc fans sure are one lucky bunch.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:11 am
Lol schiano ur nuts!
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:13 am
Oh give me a break.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:14 am
At this point forget 12 in a row, it looks like we might even lose the bye week.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:15 am
Hah! It’s opposite day!
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:15 am
And the last great Bucs team was the superbowl team. Morris didn’t even make the playoffs that season. He’s still better than Schiano, which says everything you need to know about Schiano.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:25 am
As Bucs fans we should be hoping for this! Not just sell out the season cause “it’s Schiano’s fault”! I look at it like this….. Schiano is the HC and maybe, just maybe….. The team knows how to pull it together. I’m hoping so, cause to always be negative about your so called team is showing you are not a fan! Period!
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:25 am
Delusional! We’re talking Grand Canyon delusional here. Smh
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:29 am
@ Mike
I choose to be hopeful…and that’s what Schiano is…and I believe his team is hopeful also.
I think many fans are rooting for Schiano to fail so he will be fired. If he succeeds, he stays. But if he fails, so do our Bucs.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:33 am
Bucs need to sit back to watch the ONLY team in this town that will win the next 12… and That is the TAMPA BAY RAYS!!!! GO RAYS show the Yucs what real team chemistry is all about
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:38 am
Being a true fan imo doesn’t mean being happy about mediocre results… hell id b happier wit mediocre results but the facts are the facts schanio has brought more structer to this team (overall minus this freeman hiatus) but we dont buy tickets for diciplined adults we want wins an I dont know about u but Sundays hurt for me not just now dating back to the follwing sb season an 1 outa the lasy 10 mens we need a new leader fact we got to much talent on this team for these rrsults we need a TRUE LEADER
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:43 am
He’s 1-9 in his last 10 games. The single win in the last game of the season against the falcons in a game they didn’t need.
We don’t need to root for him to fail. He already has.
Fans are right to be p!ssed off right now. That doesn’t make them not fans.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:45 am
Gotta say Joe, while I’m sure a winning team is typically better for site traffic I can’t imagine there at few things better for the site than a team in the middle of an embarrassing public meltdown like this. Between having to check every few minutes to see what new wrinkle has been uncovered and people weighing in so passionately I’d say this is about as good as you could hope for from a losing team.
Not really as you’d think, as hard as that may be to believe. You think TV ratings for the next Bucs game will be up or down? Winning is contagious in many ways.–Joe
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:46 am
I hope Schiano has entered the drug program because he needs help.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:51 am
Wow.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:52 am
Win one game first please…..1 game…..ONE GAME!!!
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:56 am
One has to think the Rays will win the World Series to make up for the complete abortion known as the Bucs.
October 3rd, 2013 at 9:57 am
@Mike…..worry about your own fandom idiot!!! Dont even attempt calling people like me pissed and FED THE FK UP WITH OUR TEAM, “NOT FANS”!!!
You know, I could easily turn into a “not fan”, as can many, and EVERYBODY Buc related would stop hearing from us and start to miss us! You know its true!
October 3rd, 2013 at 10:05 am
Hahaha. Ok….wait…hahaha. Let’s see you outcoach the Glazer Boy’s first choice ( Chip Kelly ) coming out of the bye first. It’s one of the few winnable games left in 2013 if The Schiano $hit Show is still playing.
October 3rd, 2013 at 10:05 am
The sooner Schiano’s gone, the sooner the 12-game win streak starts. The longer he stays the more likely 0-16 becomes. The game plans aren’t getting better. Game management’s not getting better. Undisciplined play continues. Every day brings a new distraction. But I hear they do dress and practice well.
October 3rd, 2013 at 10:39 am
YOU GOT HIM! He said one game at a time and he talked about more than one game at a time, and you NAILED IT. You are like Perry Mason or something.
Give me a break, it was one statement about how things can turn around.
October 3rd, 2013 at 10:46 am
Hmmm. Has he really been study tape? Well he needs to fast forward to the end and look at the scoreboard. 12 in a row in the loss column probably. I think this coach’s brain is fried. Unless he unveils some revolutionary new offensive scheme other teams have caught up to his current prehistoric scheme. 12 in a row makes me laugh. I think now the coach should go back to just thinking one game at a time. (que the Twilight Zone music)
October 3rd, 2013 at 11:10 am
I’m not yet on the “fire Schiano” bandwagon, but the fact that he considers winning to be catching “a little break” is a major red flag. Teams win because they are well-prepared, well-coached and have talented players. They don’t just randomly catch “a little break” and they certainly don’t randomly rattle off 12 straight wins.
The scariest part of that statement is the possibility that Schiano may not truly know what is wrong so far this season, relying on catching “a little break” for getting some wins after the bye. If he doesn’t know what’s wrong by now, what are the chances he ever will?
He seems to have entered that dreaded place where coaches start making excuses, and when that happens you know that seat is getting too hot to handle. I’ll wait a couple games after the bye to continue giving Schiano the benefit of the doubt, but if he continues to act like he’s baffled and doesn’t know how to turn things around I’m jumping ship. That’s the same thing that cause me to turn on Raheem and I’m not going to be hypocritical by giving Schiano more credit than I gave Rah.
Same standard: know what the hell you’re doing and how to turn things around or get out of the way so we can get a coach who does.
October 3rd, 2013 at 11:19 am
Of course he doesn’t know what’s wrong. He keeps making the same play calling and game management mistakes. He has his method and it’s the right way to do things regardless of the win loss record
October 3rd, 2013 at 11:22 am
Hopefully he’s using the bye week to do coaching interviews. Maybe he can go be raheem’s assistant with the skins. They’re always ready to pick up the Bucs castoffs. He might have a solid future as an assistant secondary coach. That way he doesn’t need to make any real decisions and he only has a few people to worry about so no need to video tape them
October 3rd, 2013 at 11:50 am
@ Madmax…. Call me an idiot for speaking my mind? Really don’t care what u think, But u called me an idiot for speaking my mind. I feel for you really…..
October 3rd, 2013 at 11:52 am
I don’t cut down anybody on this site. I cut down none Bucs fans. That u r Madmax……
October 3rd, 2013 at 11:52 am
I can’t believe he’s actually trying to sell the fans on this idea. This guy is a jackass. I’m utterly disgusted and haven’t been this disappointed about the Bucs ever. GO RAYS!
October 3rd, 2013 at 12:00 pm
Your disgusted that OUR coach believes they can go on a 12 game winning streak?
Your right, I would much rather have a choice that believes we have no chance. What the heck is Schiano thinking?
October 3rd, 2013 at 12:00 pm
coach*
October 3rd, 2013 at 12:49 pm
The Raheem comparisons are becoming a frequent thing now, THAT CANT BE GOOD FOR SCHIANO! Heh..heh..heh
How you treat and coach players at each level is NOT the same. Pop Warner, High School, College, and Pro.
DIVE BOMBING KNEE CAPS to try and get a Fumble is not gonna work at the Highest Level of Football Greg, I just makes the Coach look like an idiot.
WHY HASNT ANYBODY ASKED IF THE BUCCANEERS ARE USING SKULLDUGGERY TO TRY AND GET OUT OF PAYING FREEMAN????
October 3rd, 2013 at 12:58 pm
I’m betting Schiano gets the last laugh when all is said and done. Wins are going to come. Maybe not 12 in a row but enough to show that he’s got this ship going in the right direction.
October 3rd, 2013 at 1:21 pm
^^^UTTER NONSENSE^^^
The weakness of the Buccaneers is not the QB position. It is coaching and playcalling.
October 3rd, 2013 at 1:55 pm
Thank you Couch & Bobby!
October 3rd, 2013 at 2:27 pm
What is up with you people? Look at this:
1. Raaheem Morris was fired because he lost control of the entire team.
2. Chip Kelly backed out from being the Bucs HC so they hired Schiano
3. Schiano/Dom had to hire assistant coaches late in the offseason.
4. 2012 Bucs had #1 rush def and #32 Pass def, off was pretty good
5. PJ Fleck departed and WR started drops this year
6. 2013 added key Def players Revis, Goldson
7. Def looks much better this year
8. Freeman benched and then the Media goes crazy with it.
I don’t have a problem with Schiano’s defense except Revis needs to play man-to-man and not zone. I think Freeman needed to be benched because he hasn’t played very well. I think we need to see how well the team plays over the next few weeks to determine if our problems are a result of Freeman’s erratic play, Schiano/Sullivan play calling, or what ever. I do think Dom has done a pretty well job with this team except for maybe a TE and 3rd WR. The Defense has come around. I feel the O line has to step it up and get some holes for Martin and some time for Glennon.
Joe no matter what the other posters say I come to JBF for all my Bucs info. Keep it up.

The ONLY place this guy is going to win 12 straight – is if he’s back at Rutgers and he’s playing the Sisters of Hope School for the Blind…12 weeks in a row.
…or in his dreams – where his players don’t lift him on their shoulders and carry him off the field…but where they kneel before him and lay palm fronds in front his feet as he leaves the field, just before they execute the opposing QB, and place a golden wreath around his head…
