Kurt Warner Flummoxed By Revis Usage
October 24th, 2013Add likely Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner to the list of respected analysts who believe the Bucs are using Darrelle Revis incorrectly.
Yes, Bucs coaches say Revis is being used on “Revis Island” in man coverage, but many say otherwise, claiming the film don’t lie. Warner expressed his frustration via NFL.com.
If Revis isn’t healthy enough to shadow receivers, it’s news to NFL Media’s Kurt Warner, who opined Wednesday that the artist formerly known as a shutdown corner looks “as good as ever” in press-man coverage.
“He looks like he’s back to form,” Warner added. “What’s made Darrelle Revis great over the years is that he has the ability to get up into your face, to press you, to use muscle, to take away any separation, and then the instincts to break down and read the routes of receivers. … I just can’t figure out why they don’t do that more with him.”
No coaching staff will be under more scrutiny going forward than Schiano’s, especially if they continue to play against Revis’ strengths.
This whole Revis debate is getting comical and embarrassing. If Panthers star receiver Steve Smith burns Leonard Johnson for a touchdown tonight, then look for more darts flying at the New Schiano Order.

This is getting stupid. I pretty much have pure hatred for the coach right now, but this is one thing that doesn’t bother me. Maybe its because I’m a gullible layman, but I don’t think he’s 100%, and he is being used correctly right now. It may not be ideal but I think its correct. If they do this next year then I will start to second guess.

They won’t be around next year. Then Revis and others will be used properly.

Other than Warner’s choice in women, I completely respect his opinion.

Add Warren Sapp to that list too as he just said on NFL AM that he will leave a note in the suggestion box when he gets to the stadium later tonight. While were at it add me too.

I agree that Revis needs to be on Smith tonight.
October 24th, 2013 at 8:52 am
Guys, he just can’t be 100% healthy and they are protecting him by not throwing him in man coverage (much more taxing) on every down. That has to be the only answer. You don’t pay 1million per game for a corner if you are not going to use him correctly. I refuse to believe the entire defensive coaching staff is this stupid.

Schian0-6 train stops tonight

Everyone is freaking confused.

Schiano will get fired tomorrow if the Bucs lose tonight per my anonymous sources. 🙂

Revis walked directly to Schiano as he came off the field late in the game last week, and I’m wondering if he didn’t finally tell Schiano to tell Sheridan he needs to be on the best WR on the field. He moved around a couple of times after that, but the game was about over. Hopefully he finally played his “you pay me $16mil to lock down the best WR, so let me do that” card. We’ll find out tonight I suppose.

Banks will get burned twice by Smith tonight.

Here is an eye opening fact.
We are 13th in the league for Points Allowed on Defense.
We are 31st in the league for scoring points.
If we score more points the opposing offense will be more predictable and our defense will be better.
As it stands right now we are 18th in the league in defensive passing yards and 4th in the league in defensive rushing yards.
Other than the patriot game each game has been close.
I just dont see the problem.
But then I like the bucs. And I understand that the coach had to deal with a Team Leader WHO – Got caught taking Pills (Accidentally), Missed his team camp, missed team photo, could not score touchdowns and did not want to run the ball. But also had 6 million due to him.
I was not personal friends with Josh, so all i cared about was winning.

Unless our defense pitches a shutout and scores a TD, tonight will end with anothet loss.

I would like someone to ask Dave what he thinks. He coached revis n college and he should know if he’s healthy
October 24th, 2013 at 9:49 am
Revis even being 80% healthy is better than any 100% corner we have on the team
October 24th, 2013 at 10:00 am
schiano will use a new strategy tonight. He’s gonna have Carolina’s bus disabled and they’ll be late to game, panthers forfeit, Bucs win !
October 24th, 2013 at 10:19 am
Schiano seems to just force the players into his defensive scheme rather than devise a new scheme to fit the players he has. Coaches that do that don’t win enough games and are fired. And to think that Greg would be able to scheme around Revis as well as Rex Ryan did is laughable.
October 24th, 2013 at 10:23 am
They are using Revis in man but it’s 5-10 yard off man. Revis made his name by getting his hands on WRs at the LOS but he doesn’t get that chance very often.
October 24th, 2013 at 10:49 am
Someone please ask Schiano to show us where he says Revis is being used in man coverage that we don’t understand. Maybe it’s a matter of interpretation, so let’s see it.
Dungy and Gruden both made the mistake that they wanted to run their schemes more than they wanted to win by using players to the best of their ability.
Does anyone know whether Dominik thrust Revis on Schiano? That could be an interesting rift, and if Schi is too block-headed to use the best corner in the league correctly, then he deserves to be ousted.
October 24th, 2013 at 11:24 am
It seems plausible that these coaches just don’t know what zone and man coverage are. They seem new to football.
October 24th, 2013 at 11:29 am
Skelly,
Sadly, the entire coaching staff is that stupid. They aren’t using him correctly.
No mystery or question about it. The Bucs are playing a zone. Don’t need any one to confirm.
If Revis lines up across from a Reciever- chuks him at the line- then shawdows him until the play is over- it’s man.
Anything else- is Zone.
Sheridan plays Zone, and doesn’t honor his word- when it comes to free coke.
Any man rotten enough, to lie about giving people Coke at 5:30 in the morning- wouldn’t possibly know how to use the best Defensive player in the league.
And Revis is 100%. I mentioned on the live thread, that Revis was in Schianos grill.
Unbelievable

Can we place some blame on a horrible D coordinator and horrible Defensive scheme!! Im all for Schiano blasting, I hope it doesnt stop till he’s gone, but we need to call out Bill Sheridan as well!! His track record is not good at all, actually we look like that horrible Giants team, when he was D Coordinator, that lost 8 out of their last 11 games with 5 of those games giving up 40 + points!! This guy needs to be fired ASAP! Our Defense is filled with way too much talent to be performing this poorly!
October 24th, 2013 at 7:11 pm
Are players going to give Carolina this win to get rid of Schiano? Or are the Bucs buying into him if the Bucs wake up and go on a big run credit goes to Schiano and he stays next year. If they keep on losing he’s gone what are the Bucs to do? What do y’all think
