“We Plan To Inflict Pain On People”

Gerald McCoy delivered some tough talk last night.
You could almost hear drool dripping from Greg Schiano’s mouth when he talked about his defense Monday.
Schiano was on the Buccaneers Radio Network talking about a Buccaneers defense, his defense, the Rutgers defense, that’s harder-hitting than anything seen around Tampa Bay in years.
And it’s not just Schiano brimming with defensive confidence and swagger. It’s everywhere in the Bucs’ locker room, as well.
Mason Foster told Joe there is new attitude and a stepped-up intensity this season.
“We definitely are a physical team. We feed off each other. Lavonte makes a big hit, I feel like I gotta make a big hit. If I make a big hit, Dashon feels like he gotta make a big hit. So it goes across the board, man,” Foster said. “And I love it. I love that type of football. I’m excited to go out there Sunday and get to hit somebody else.”
Gerald McCoy took things a step further on WDAE-AM 620 last night.
“I don’t want him to [change]. I don’t want him to. I don’t want him to,” McCoy said of Dashon Goldson’s ferocious, fine-inducing hits. “Because once you start worrying about penalties you can’t play as fast as you want to and you start slowing down. I love the hits. I love them. When you slow them down, it was all shoulder. But what the refs are taught to look at, from what they see at that moment, if it looks like your head was in there, then they’re going to call it. But once we slowed [the game film] down, clearly [Goldson] turned his head away and just used his shoulder.
“But the hits, they’re not dirty. They’re clean hits. He’s just playing physical. That’s what our defense is about.”
“When you turn on the tape, we want people to hate that they have to play our defense. We plan to inflict pain on people, you know, within the rules. But that’s the plan, whether it’s a quarterback, fullback, running back, offensive lineman, whoever. That’s the goal of this defense — to impose our will. We did that Sunday.”
Joe could type up more examples of the defensive confidence coming out of Week 1. And Joe’s talked to plenty of Bucs offensive players who are jacked up by what they saw from the defense.
Yes, the Bucs were facing a weak Jets offense with second-tier weapons, but the defense was sound, with arguably the best defensive player in the league, Darrelle Revis, still shaking off rust.
Joe will be a true believer if the Bucs can perform Sunday against Drew Brees. An organic, stunt-free pass rush will be critical. There’s no way the Bucs succeed blitzing the Saints the way they did the Jets.

I guess I don’t understand what the fine was for if he used his shoulder and it was a clean hit. Right now, the only pain being inflicted from the Bucs is on the fans.

I dont think this game will be pretty for our D. But I do think they will play much better against the Saints than they did last year. At least I hope. If we can hold them to under 24 points I think thats a good day for our D. I dont think 24 points is to much to ask our offense to come up with to beat the Saints. Most likely its going to have to be more.

Wait just a minute. I thought the players weren’t “buying in,” that the team is in “total disarray” and dissension, that Schiano has “lost the clubhouse.” Doesn’t sound like it here.

Nice! It’s been a while since our team was accused of being too aggressive and hitting too hard. I think the entire team will come out with a vengeance of Sunday and silence all the ridiculous rumors and speculation.

This may be one of the few ways to slow them down. Just keep sending their WRs to the locker room. I just hope The Hawk wont get a suspension…. I also hope the Glazers reimburse him for those fines.
Why cant WRs, or all NFL players just sign a waiver not to sue over concussions. outta respect for the game..

I love our aggressive defense, but why does it always have to be an aggressive defense OR an aggressive offence?!? Why can’t it be AND? We have the weapons on offence but they look hamstrung while the defense looks free to attack.

The hell with what Joe is talking about…BLITZ THE HELL OUT OF BREES….Our corners will get the job done..brees can escape the pocket like Geno Did…especially 3wr sets..blitz blitz blitz…if he gets under center Blitz his ass. Dont shadow box with this guy, make him force a couple passes. Cause he will..he always does. I dont care what his % is against the blitz..I know his % is higher when you dont blitz him. The guy is 6-0ft tall knock his ass down then when the 4th qtr comes knock him down again.. Dont sit back and play zone and cover two man like Atlanta did. Zone blitz his ass, safety blitz his ass..send the mike and the will..Make him beat you with the deep ball…knock him out…Joe wants to play safe and pray we get pressure with a 4 man front.that aint gonna happen..coach is going to blitz all day!!!!..Goldson will have 2 picks and we will probably get the W

Oh yeah! real stout defense. They let a rookie QB with no offensive weapons march down the field in less than 30 seconds with no timeout and win the game! I would be beaming with confidence, especially with the Saints coming into town.

I wonder why the recipient of the helmet to helmet hit has to go to the locker room for a 15 minute concussion examination but the instigator remains on the field.

Are we overlooking a possible solution to the head hunting problem? Fines don’t seem to work.

@pelbuc the kid had one pass across the middle, and got pushed out at the 45 with 7 seconds left…a mistake by our lb gave them the field goal…if it wasnt for that flag the game was over..you act like the kid marched 65 yards down the field throwing strikes.
