Schiano: We Had No Flow

September 8th, 2013

Greg Schiano didn’t like his offense today.

“I think the flow of our offense, we had no flow. It was choppy at best,” Schiano said, via the Buccaneers Radio Network audio below. “Some individuals made some good plays, but we just never got on a roll.”

Too many penalties on both sides of the ball — 13 total — were “unexcusable,” Schiano said. “That’s not going to be who we are going forward, but it cost us today.”

Joe can’t disagree. Joe’s already dropped a load of blame on Mike Sullivan. But Joe’s not sure how this gets fixed so fast. And Joe doesn’t know how a team drilled on details comes out sloppy and high schoolish?  Schiano needed weeks to right the ship last season, ending a five-game losing streak in grand fashion in Atlanta to close the season. Coaches need to improve!!!

  2. Couch Fan Says:

After this slop of a game. I think Schiano may of just put himself on the hot seat.

  3. D-Rome Says:

Agreed with “FanOfBucs” above. Everyone is complaining about Josh Freeman as if he can block pass rushers while throwing the ball.

People loved the so-called “discipline” Schiano supposedly brought to the team but we haven’t seen any of it starting from game 1 of the pre-season.

The weakness of this team has been coaching and it’s been a problem since Gruden was fired.

  4. Robbie_G Says:

I have it in my head they will be winless going into the bye, good lord this offense was terrible

  5. D-Rome Says:

Agreed with “Couch Fan” too. Perhaps that anonymous Buccaneer from last year was on to something when he asked, “Can we send these coaches back to college?”

Dave Wannstedt woudl probably have more success as a Head Coach.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The offensive gameplan didn’t work & we didn’t adjust. I can’t tell you how many Buc games have this pattern….I think we threw one pass to a TE & he was behind the line of scrimage. Did we have two back sets…..if we new Lorig wasn’t playing why didn’t we account for that?
A fish stinks from the head, so Schiano is to blame for coaching…but its hard for me without knowing….not to blame Sullivan. Doen’t he call the plays?….should Schiano have told him to open it up or let him run his Offense?
The bottom line….we made way to many mistakes…..I am not a Josh Freeman hater…but he really has a great deal of trouble with accuracy on short passes…..and we really need to have that in our gameplan.

  7. Couch Fan Says:

I cant wait to hear what shaun King has to say LoL, this is really going to be a long week

  8. Eric Says:

This was the scouting report from the folks at Rutgers. Not a good day game coach. And that was at freakin Rutgers.

I notice experienced guys like Fisher and Reed got their teams off to solid starts. But we had to get all cute and hire this lightweight from the Big East.

    Pitiful, just pitiful.

  9. lightningbuc Says:

“this is really going to be a long week”

    or year

  10. Chef Paul Says:

It disgusts me that in 2013, when we can watch games on tv, computer, tablet, phone, we still have to have a legitimate worry about a walkie talkie in the helmet. It happens way too much. DUMB!! And if it happens so dang much, why haven’t we figured out how to deal with it? DUMBER!!!!

  11. BullDog Says:

Too many coaches for so little result. The team just looked unprepared. This team has enough talent for this to have not happened. The Offensive scheme is just that,,,,offensive. No communication????? Bree’s and Brady are capable of calling their own plays. Are you telling me that Josh can’t ? REALLY ? Sigh!
It’s starting to shape up as a no guilt hunting season.

  12. CT Bucs Says:

I was at the game and it was awful. I can’t believe I waited 30 weeks for today’s game. I had hope.

  13. Justin Says:

This game was a carbon copy of last years Dallas game from an offensive standpoint. We bounced back then. We should be able to do it again.

  14. Splengo Says:

This coach was practicing the victory formation charge the week before the Patriot practice. What do you expect? He’s going to prove to everyone that Rutgers can win in the NFL with a bigger budget.

  15. Chef Paul Says:

Yup. I agree with what every one in this thread says. I am no longer a Schiano guy. IMO this loss goes on him the most. Plenty of blame to go to everyone, but he has the most. He now has to prove it to me now. He’s been looking like he’s just all talk. Like a guard dog. All bark no bite.

  16. SteveK Says:

    Playoffs or bust.

  17. Joc Says:

I caught heeps of flak for calling a 5-11 season…..

  18. lightningbuc Says:

    SteveK,

Jim Mora is laughing at your “Playoffs or bust” comment.

  19. lightningbuc Says:

    Joc,

I’d give you flak also. This is a 3-13 team at best.

  20. David Colwell Says:

He was in bounds when contact was made and shove was from the side not from behind!

  21. Jacko101 Says:

Omg Eli just threw 2 pics should the giants scream for the back up?

  22. SteveK Says:

So Freeman couldnt audible early on? Misscommunications in year 5?

    Ok?

I understand Freeman is not elite, but come on, he needs to be better. Today’s performance is not going to cut it.

  23. Gt40bear Says:

Soooo, record in last seven games…1-6! Now that’s playoff quality right there! I can’t believe they are as bad as they showed today, but they better get their act together quick or this season will be over before Halloween! Bridgewater, Johnny Football or Clowney?

  24. SteveK Says:

    JAcko,

Eli has two super bowl rings.

  25. Cmurda Says:

No, the difference between Eli and Freeman is that Eli knows how to go through his progressions. There’s also a few fingers that have rings on it. You cant compare a guy that has proven to win under immense pressure to one that hasnt won any big games.

  26. lightningbuc Says:

“Omg Eli just threw 2 pics should the giants scream for the back up?”

God, I hope so. And i hope they trade Eli to the Bucs.

  27. Free(Agent)Man Says:

Just sick of the excuses. Everyone responsible is a veteran. Be the o line, QB, lbs, coaching. Pathetic. I’m so sick of the mediocrity.

  28. Chef Paul Says:

I was actually pretty happy with Freeman’s play. But presnap? Can’t call his own play when a walkie talkie breaks? There has GOT to be at least one play he is most comfortable with that he can call on his own. He doesn’t have one? He shouldn’t need to be babysat every single play. Even if its just call the same play you just ran. Maybe yall are right. He just isn’t smart enough to be a QB.

I was hanging on by thread to start the season, and a few strings broke from that thread today. The only hope I have left is Carl Nicks. If he doesn’t return,(yes I know he supposed to) or Freeman cant improve when he gets back back. That thread will be broken

  29. SteveK Says:

    George Selvie is looking good.

    Thanks for cutting him Dominick.

Hail to the rock star, losing to the Jets.

K2 was cut loose and is better than Stocker.

    We are a mess.

  30. SteveK Says:

So Freeman’s radio broke, and no audible?

What gives, WCBF, I thought we had the 2nd year in the system. Surely, basic audibles can be calls upon in order to preserve timeouts?

  31. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ David Colwell

Thanks for the link to the play….Geno was still in bounds and LVD pushed him from the side….bad call…but here is the problem…there are always bad calls and we should’t let ourselves get in that position. This game was lost in the 2nd & 3rd quarter with horrendous play-calling…..I blame Sullivan….I can tell you this…if I were Schiano…I’d throw him right under the bus….shame on me, but I’m keeping my job.

  32. chris Says:

    Here’s my take:

    – Josh Freeman is just bad. He stared down his first read ALL GAME! To say this is soley on Josh isn’t accurate, but thats the reason he holds the ball too long. He played horrific. He didn’t put us in position to win the game iether. He stared down Vjacks the whole game and on that 3rd down, the Jets forgot to cover him and he broke free. Our WRs make Freeman look better than he is statistically.

And the Radio goes out? Lol it happens every week to teams on the road. Get used to it. The way it was managed by Freeman and the coaching staff was horrible.

    – The coaches had this team ill prepared. Mike Sullivan does not trust Freeman and rightfully so. Don’t know why we didn’t give Martin a rest or change things up atleast attempt it.

    – Defensively, the only thing I need to point out are the stunts. Other than that, they put our offense in position for our only 2 TDs. 4 sacks 2 TOs. Can’t complain. Some questionable PF calls (goldson’s shouilder to shoulder hits were legal).

    – Special teams: Koenen and Page were the MVPs. Solid there. Didn’t give Jets much possession.

    – Freeman’s 3 and outs and TO sparked the Jets and put the defense in bad spots.

-What did Dom see in Ogeltree when Underwood was better? Don’t get it/

  33. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

Glad more people are putting the blame where it goes >>>>> the coaches. Schiano made poor adjustments throughout. We passed when we were supposed to pass and ran when we were supposed to run. It was incredibly predictable and looked just as vanilla as pre season. Sheridan said that the stunts were only for run stopping yet I saw SEVERAL stunts in very obvious passing situations.

I don’t know how you continue to bang Martin up the middle all game long when it never even showed signs of starting to work. How many freaking 3rd-and-9’s did we have? We played with a small lead all game and it seemed like we were playing not to lose. They kept crowding the box and we didn’t take advantage enough times to keep them honest. We lost contain on Geno just enough times to kill us. He had forever and a day to throw and once he went through his eighth progression he took off running. Freeman on the other hand was running for his life most of the game.

Lets not forget, in the process, that the Jets have had a top notch defense for years. (Even without Revis last year.) Give credit where credit is due.

The coaches have a lot of work to do and I don’t know if they are capable. It doesn’t matter how good or bad Freeman or Martin or anyone else is. If the coach can’t do it then this team is doomed.

  34. Andrew 1 Says:

you all can panic, Im not. I have a feeling we will bounce back. I think we were so worried about guys not getting injured in preseason that our offense never got on the same page, and we saw a result of that at the beginning of the game. with this game under our belt we should be in more of a rhythm next game.

  35. Couch Fan Says:

I’m wondering if the coaching staff was looking past this week to NO next week, and decided we didnt need to show anything against the Jets. It makes sense… incredibly stupid but it fits.

  36. Roger Goodell Says:

With the first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Jadeveon Clowney, defensive end, South Carolina.

  37. Pete 422 Says:

@David Colwell thanks for the image. I stand corrected from an earlier post. Gino was in bounds, clean play by L. David.

  38. Andrew 1 Says:

and for the love of God, we have to get our running game going. getting that corrected should be priority number 1.

  39. Andrew 1 Says:

Nicks and a FB, any freakin FB, need to come back now. if Lorig isnt ready then go out and get a damn FB.

  40. McBuc Says:

If u blame free for this loss u r a fool. This was shiano, the team was not prepared at all. Naybe he should have taken preseason a bit more serious. I am starting to think he needs to go back to college. Shiano order my ass.

  41. tbfan4eva Says:

No flow is what happens when you give all the preseason reps to a sorry ass backup QB instead of getting the starters ready to play.

  43. Mr Lucky Says:

Sorry but when his own team mates don’t vote Freeman as a Captain of the team it speaks volumes……

After the 2013 season is finished the Glazers will hire a new HC who HOPEFULLY will be able to draft his own QB and we’ll have to wait until 2017 to field a competitive team.

    THANK GOD FOR FANTASY FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Andrew

A beacon of hope from a true fan….thanks….sure, we blew it….our coaching was horrible….but I saw some very good things…..Goldson is a monster….beware NFC South….I’ll take a couple of those bad calls to send a message….Mason Foster had a good game, as did Spence.
Vincent Jackson can catch, Ogletree can’t….Josh can’t throw short passes with or without time.

So, Andrew….a victory Sunday against the Saints and we are back on track.

The bottom line with Josh was…he played just well enough for a very good team to win. We were not a very good team today…therefore we lost.

  45. Nate Says:

Lavonte’s “illegal” push out of bounds is an issue in this game that is way down on my list of problems with the Bucs in this game. The start of the game was so unorganized it made Raheem Morris’ coached teams look flawless. To get a delay of game penalty coming out of a timeout!?! WTF!?! Why does it take the entire play clock to run every play? (something that has carried over from last year). What happened to the roll out plays that John Lynch was told by Mike Sullivan were going to be part of the game plan because that is one of Freeman’s strengths? And finally, (I was yelling this at the TV) WHY THE HELL WERE WE IN THAT FRICKING 3 MAN PASS RUSH AT THE END OF THE GAME THAT NEVER WORKS… AGAINST A ROOKIE QB NO LESS!?! You had Revis on the field, Goldson, Barron, etc. and the coaches feel they got to throw another guy in coverage instead of getting a pass rush on a rookie QB? Horrible Coaching/Strategy…PERIOD! This game should have NEVER came down to David’s “late push”.

  46. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Tampabaybucfan

I agree with your evaluation there. I now see why there was so much hype surrounding Goldson. the guy is an absolute head hunter! so glad he is on our team.

and may I remind everybody that Revis was not on the field the entire game. they are working him back slowly, but we saw flashes of how good this guy really is. cant wait for him to get on the field full time.

  47. Bobby Says:

LOL! Wow….just the most silly fans on the face of the earth. It’s one game folks. Wasn’t our best but it sure as hell wasn’t anywhere close to our worst. We’ll be fine. First games often turn out differently than we think.

YES. The offensive play calling sucked. I thought it was horrible. Why call all the sideline passes when we were tearing them up inside with V-Jax and Williams. When will this offense start taking small bites instead of trying to get it all 20-25 yds at a time??

  48. Will Says:

What was the deal with Donald Penn? The broadcast showed him get into an argument with VJax on the sideline after giving up a sack on Freeman, and he didn’t play well overall today. Are his teammates questioning his effort?

  49. Pete 422 Says:

I agree with McBuc. Freeman can’t pass block for the O-Line or go out & catch the ball for Ogletree or the Muscle Hamster who dropped quite a few of those short passes that were on the money (yes there were some).

  50. Cmurda Says:

I just saw a picture of the “David Push” in which you can clearly see Geno is still in bounds when it begins. I dont get these soft rules. With that said, Freeman was a disappointment. V Jax was amazing and the O Line was decent. Defense played hard. A win next week will make this a distant memory.

  51. Drew Says:

I have the winning formula for the rest of the season. The other teams are no shows.

  52. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Bobby & Andrew…….where’s Buc 1987….in rehab?

Thanks for maintaining a positive outlook…we do have some pretty good new pieces….good enough to where it shows up our coaching deficiencies….
I’m not near ready to call it quits after one game….as I wouldn’t if we won…start planning for the playoffs.
One thing I told my wife before the game…she says “what do you think”…I said….”its a Buc game, it will come down to the wire…I’ll get my money’s worth!!!

When a rookie QB outperforms the great Josh Freeman, who’s claimed to be more “comfortable” year 2, you’re in trouble. The coaching was terrible. Lack of preperation, but I watched Josh Freeman’s body language the entire game. It was poor. He stared down his first read on every drop back. That is recipe for disaster.

  54. Andrew 1 Says:

”its a Buc game, it will come down to the wire…I’ll get my money’s worth!!!

Exactly! watch the bucs long enough and you get used to games coming down to the wire.

as for Buc 1987… I think he had a heart attack. lol.

  55. Buc1987 Says:

I’m barely pulling myself up off the ground. Am I pissed like some of these trash talking fans about my own team? Nope. Depressed? Yup. Do I still think Schiano is the type of coach that will straighten out the mess we saw today? Yup. Give me time though as I have been trying process everything I saw that went wrong today.
Trying to assess who’s to blame and who’s not to blame. It may go long but I’m putting it all down on word pad, so I don’t ef it up. Have no fear though positive thinking fans, I’m still here. I’m with ya. Give me about another 15-20 minutes though the word pad assessment is almost done. WestCoast, TBBF, and Andrew 1, I hope your still awake to read it. As for the rest of you weak ass fans I could care less about the majority of you anymore after what I have read on these threads. Be back in 20.

  56. Paul Says:

Freeman was lost in the sauce all day but I don’t see an article about that..?

  57. SteveK Says:

How does Freeman go out and get shown up by a rookie in his debut?

This was our game from the start.

The defense is improved. Where is Freeman?

    67.9 QB Rating, 48% completions, 22.5 QBR….

It should not have come down to the LVD play, sad truth. We did not take care of business. As a team, we did not get it done, and what the hell is wrong with our QB?

  58. chris Says:

Our defense gave our offense every opportunity to put the game away. The Lavonte David int with us up 14-5 at mid field should have done it. But mr franchise himself throws an int into traffic with not , not 2 not 3 but 4 white jerseys surrounding Jackson.

  59. Bobby Says:

I’ve seen enough football to realize it’s never as dire as fans make it out to be. I saw enough positives to have hope for a good season.

  60. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

He stared down his first read on every drop back. That is recipe for disaster.

And how often did he actually have the time to even progress to his second read on every drop back? He only had two viable receiving options all game. Every screen play was blown completely from the start. Freeman didn’t look good but what do you expect when he faced more 3rd-and-9’s than any team should face in a game? Zero running game.

  61. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Buc 1987

glad to see that your alright. keep your head up man, we will get this thing straitened out.

How convenient to leave out the defender that was inches away as he threw the ball.

  63. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Buc 1987

Glad you were resucitated after your attack….Looking for someone to blame…..lets start with Sullivan….he knew for weeks that he wouldn’t have Lorig & would be weak at TE….he knew they would key on Martin….he didn’t know they would be successful until the second quarter…yet he continued to run the ball up the gut for 1-2 yards. He faied to adjust….our impotent offense lost this game.
As for Freeman….he isn’t good enough to overcome a game where this many mistakes were made.
If Geno outplayed him….it was because our D let it happen and I don’t believe that….Their D outplayed our O….
I’ve known this for a while but hoped it wasn’t true…but Josh Freeman can’t throw short passes.
If I’m his coach, I’m constantly rolling him out and I tell him to scramble when he is pressured.

  64. Pete 422 Says:

If VJack was amazing, who was getting him the ball??

Oh & why did he get caught from behind by a LB? Don’t get me wrong, he had a great game.

  65. Couch Fan Says:

    ————————

This is the NFL. Your going to have defenders around you ALOT when throwing the ball. All you just did was give yet… another excuse for a horrible pass that is ALL on Freeman.

  66. Buc1987 Says:

Damn it Tampabaybucfan…I’m almost done with the word pad thingy and drowning in vodka, chomping on nic gum like a wild man. Rivers has imploded without Jackson. Jackson makes Freeman look serviceable. Jackson dominated Cro today, but Freeman stared him down and still threw it to him when he was double covered.

  69. Bobby Says:

There’s plenty of blame to go around but once again Freeman gives the defense a lead…this time with 38 seconds left and the defense lets the opposing team score from 80 yds away. Once again people blame this on Freeman. Must be something in the water.

There were balls where Freeman had 3-4 seconds after the drop back. NFL starters can go through progressions quick. If its not there Free etiher holds it or forces it. He needs to scan the field presnap. He has horrible vision because he’s supposed to know where his other options are when you know the jets would key on Jackson

  71. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

    @SteveK

“what the hell is wrong with our QB?”

So is it just not possible that the Jets had a good defense? Are we just completely throwing that out as a possible explanation? That a top five defense the last 2-3 years actually happened to be pretty good? They shut down our pro bowl runningback and made our offense one dimensional. That is a recipe for disaster for even the elite QB’s.

Dude, Freeman did not give them a lead. Free stares down Jackson all game, and the Jets didn’t cover him. Jackson was our offense today.

The Defense did their job all day. Look at the make up. We should have went for the kill, but Schaino doesn’t trust Josh to throw it in the Redzone. Why is that? Freeman sucks. End of story.

I think youre right. Especially since we play N.O. twice.

We (Schiano) overestimated the Jets, and we (Schiano) underestimated the importance of preseason playing time. I let it go then, but it was the only constant in the last 5 games. We came out flat & with no plan or structure. This was Preseason Game #5.

Towards the end of the game, they showed Schiano hollering something to Sullivan before a play. Like Joe’s article on PJ Fleck, he mentioned how Schiano liked to have his hands on every part of his team. (giggity) I’ve got a feeling that Sully was told to hold back. Prob because of what Couch said ^^^.

Welcome to the New Schiano DISorder…

    Some thoughts:
Our secondary is sick. Revis is revis. Goldson, good lawd i love his signing already. Them receivers were dropping like flies! Banks will get better, but LJ gets me worried when hes on the field. No real development from last year to now from what i saw.

As far as this game goes, im not worried. It was sloppy, unorganized play with sloppy penalties that will get resolved. Take away a few crucial penalties and this game would be different. First day jitters.

I hope all you Lorig-knockers were able to see what happens to our run game when he is not in the game?

We had zero pass rush without the blitz. Crap.

This was a trap game in which the Jets front 7 were able to load the box and stop Muscle Hamster when be didnt have a FB. Bad matchups all around, so as Bucs fans dont get too down on this. Let game #2, our home opener against a divisional opponent, when injuries will br down and nerves will be relaxed, be the yardstick by which we can compare this team. I aint worried!!!!!!!

  78. john Says:

I will say it again 5-11 and we will never have a season over 500 with our current GM.

Like Joe’s article on PJ Fleck, he mentioned how Schiano liked to have his hands on every part of his team. (giggity) I’ve got a feeling that Sully was told to hold back. Prob because of what Couch said ^^^.

Welcome to the New Schiano DISorder…

As Drew Brees would say, you look past an opponent in this league, you don’t belong.

  81. tonytwocents Says:

To whoever posted that pic of LVDs play, THANK YOU! Davids play and Goldsons penalties need to be addressed. Will all the added cameras, why not make penalties reviewable too?? Those guys deserve apologies, and a night alone with Goodells wife. Fu(k that punk!

  82. tonytwocents Says:

“As Drew Brees would say, you look past an opponent in this league, you don’t belong.”

    That says it all.

  83. King Diamond Says:

There is nothing to be optimistic about this season when you can’t
Take advantage of a go ahead win like the sorry ass Jets. What does
That say about the Bucs? Someone needs to be held accountable. The
    Bucs were clearly unprepared.

  84. BucFan20 Says:

So what happen to this ” Scary,Dangerous, Maybe best in the NFL” offensive line. Ok Nicks is not there. So what. Somehow I don’t think he would help. This line looked better without DJ and Nicks. Moving JZ and having Larsen at center. Freeman is not great. Has a lot of problems but damn sure needs some kind of protection. And the 3rd preseason game was exactly what we saw today from the offense.

  85. BucsfaninChina Says:

Freeman staring down his targets? Who are his targets again? O yeah, Vjax, Mike Will, and…. and…. and….

When you come up with an answer for this please let me know. Freeman certainly isnt perfect, but i dare you to give me his third option when Dougernaut is pass blocking.

  86. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Bucsfanin China

I share your feelings about LJ…I think he has improved….but on that last Jets drive…there was a play where LJ defended a 10 yd pass instead of tackeling….I know it was probably the natural thing for him to do….but an experienced CB would have let the pass be caught then tackle to take a bunch of time off the clock….that could have been a diffeerence maker right there…..

  87. tonytwocents Says:

“I will say it again 5-11 and we will never have a season over 500 with our current GM.”

please. we have an above average roster with a blend of young and proven players. all our HC has done so far, was turn wine into water.

  88. King Diamond Says:

We are now 1 and 10 against the jets all time. I’m going to puke
    All over myself now.

But no QB. See the Cheifs last year? Above average roster. No Qb. Failure.

  90. chris Says:

Say what you want about Underwood, he was solid and better than Ogeltree. Dom is in question here.

  91. chris Says:

In all honesty, the only difference between Tampa and the Jets? The media and location. Sanchez played in NY, so his poor play got massive spot light.

    Freeman is just as bad.

  92. Fil Says:

O well here we go again, no need getting upset fans. When the owners cant pay the bills because there are no fans in the seats things will change. That’s the only thing they understand, loss of revenue.

  93. Buc in DC Says:

Some of you guys sound like the cry baby fans I unfortunately had to endure at the game today. At some point in the game they were actually calling for Sanchez, that was awesome. Then after the game they were singing Genos praises….whatever, jersey trash. My biggest question is why have they (coaching staff) forced Freeman to quit scrambling? Numerous times today he could’ve ran but instead just makes dumb throws. Also, we need a TE. It seemed like all of the completions were either Jackson or Williams. Our punter Koenen is a beast, that guy is an amazing punter to watch live. One last thing, why the hell does Vincent Jackson always get chased down when he should have a big td. He did it today and last year against the Saints at the five. Dude needs to turn on the speed, he’s supposed to be the deep threat.

    Go Bucs!!!

  94. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

He sure does take plenty of notes while on the sideline. I would love to know what he is writing. Maybe he is drawing caricatures of the opposing coaches. Maybe he should just read from his notes at his pressors.

  95. NJBucsFan Says:

Roto is reporting Demps is reporting on Monday…

  96. tonytwocents Says:

maybe Schiano doesnt appreciate the wrath of the Buccaneer fanbase.. he’s had his walk in the park last year and this preseason, but from now, all eyes will be on him.

we LOVED (I still do) Tony Dungy, but the fans knew he just couldnt get that offense over the hump. the Glazers kept their finger on the pulse of the fans, and he was sent packing in the cold wet rain.

a decade later, times have changed. windows are short. coaches pop up faster than a 12 year olds d!ck.

    GET YOUR SH!T TOGETHER SCHIANO!

  97. Buc1987 Says:

Ok are we all ready with my assessment? It’s long and I hope the filters don’t block it from being posted or else I will have to try and break it down into small paragraph posts. Then it will be posted like crazy all over the thread. Here goes nothing.

  98. Expected Says:

Better play calling please .. Same screen to Martin

  99. Buc1987 Says:

Holy crap look at all the panic. I for one have been trying to figure all this out, without panicking after 1 game to a crappy team. I’m so glad I stayed out of the live game chat. I’m also glad I listened to Schiano first before I came on JBF. It’s probably going to take me until atleast Tuesday to get over this loss. Am I pissed off like 1/2 of the people on JBF are? Nope. Depressed? Yup. The players on the other hand that’s a different story. They have to put it behind them tomorrow.

Okay so after a lot of thinking, sulking, thinking, and more thinking. Trying to figure out what went wrong and who’s to blame. It’s seems to me that many people played a factor in this loss. The Bucs had WAY too may penalties we all know this. There were times that they shut down the Jets, to only have a flag fly and keep the Jets drive alive. Do I blame the coach for LVD’s hit on Geno? Hell no. Do I blame Schiano for the horrendous play calling on offense? Hell no. I think the entire enemic offense falls on 2 people and 2 people only 70% Sully and 30% Freeman. The reason why Sully shares most of the blame, is because if he saw Freeman and the offense were doing things that were not working, he should have corrected it and did not. It was almost as if this was another preseason game to Sully. Do I blame Schiano because Sully kept running Martin up the middle with no success? Yes to a degree, he should as HC straighten out his OC when it came to this.

Do I like what I saw from the defense? Absofrigginlutely, despite penalty after penalty they were an awesome spectacle. What have Buc fans in here been whining about all summer long besides Freeman? Pass rush, right? Do you see that as a problem anymore? Because I don’t.

The Bucs almost pulled off an ugly win. Almost pulled of an ugly is not what it should have been. Penalty after penalty after penalty killed every chance that had to do so. Do I blame Schiano for all those penalties? Hell friggin no. Do I think he will be a different coach on Monday towards his players and those penalties? I most certainly do. Do I think he will fix them? Yes I do. The question I ask the trash talking fans of their own team is this. Do you think Schiano will correct those problems that you saw today? Judging by most of the BS that I have read on here for that last hour many have already thrown in the towel. I get where they are coming from, I don’t blame them after what they saw today and knowing there mentality to begin with.

FINALLY I get to end this long azz post with…. 2 more questions and answers. Will I still be out on MLK waving my 3 X 5 Buc flag for 2 hours before the next weeks game? You can bet your azz I will be. Second question and answer. Do I still believe in Freeman? Well to tell you the truth since I blame Sully for most of Freeman’s problems today I still do after only 1 game that I think Schiano will correct those problems. Ask me in week 4 or so and I might have a different opinion of Josh.

Wow that was long. I hope it gets posted as we all know with these filters in such. I can tell you this about Freeman though, I only yelled out the words effing Freeman about 2 times today. Where as I was mostly pissed about the penalties that cost us an ugly win.

  100. Buc1987 Says:

    and there ya go…

  101. King Diamond Says:

I can’t blame freeman for this discusting loss.

  102. Fil Says:

  103. chris Says:

Was Freeman’s jizz in your eye or mouth when you wrote it 87?

  104. Buc1987 Says:

@chris…I wanted us to keep Underwood. Cut Ogletree tomorrow and bring back Underwood.

  106. King Diamond Says:

Everyone talks a out how Shiano turned The Rutgers football program
Around? What the F##< exactly did he turn around? Big east football
    Sucks.

  107. Tampabaybucfan Says:

One play doesn’t lose the game….

We could have missed our FG
Jackson could have dropped the pass
The Safety earlier cost us 2…we lost by one

We are focused on the LVD penalty because of the timing….sure, pretty bad….but the Jets made their FG…

Our game was lost before it ever began….poor preparation & planning. Our inabllity to adjust….
And, no….Schiano shouldn’t have gone for a touchdown instead of a FG at the end…..why?….he doesn’t trust Freeman and neither should we. He trusted our kicker & our defense (Jets 38 seconds, no timeouts, rookie QB)…he made the right call there….the same one most of you would have made.

  108. chris Says:

    To be fair 1987,

Solid write up, but Freeman needs to look and be aware of the other options as well. Regardless of how bad Ogeltree or Stocker are.

Also, the pass rush was good, but it was better when we didn’t stunt. Too many stunts I seen where our own guys were running into each other.

Every time I watch Freeman drop back to pass and had time, his eyes didn’t come off his first read.

Then I watch the afternoon games, late afternoon, I see Bradford, Palmer, Kap and Rodgers, all 4 of those guys, it’s like rapid eye movement. 1st read, noth there boom you see the head and close replays eyes immediately move to the 2nd option. Not with Freeman. Don’t see that ever.

  109. Buc1987 Says:

Tampabaybucfan…on 3rd and 3 Schiano should have could have went with a short pass for the 1st dwn instead of the run to pick up a 1st dwn and run the clock out and then kick the FG.

Sooooooooooooooooooo many could haves and if’s in this game. I counted like 12 could haves and 7 ifs.

  110. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

    @Buc1987

I think the head coach shares A LOT more blame than you credit him for. Schiano calls the “type” of play (as in run, screen, short pass, deep pass, etc.) while Sullivan picks the specific play.

We also failed on quite a bit of our blitzes. I saw them bring seven multiple times only to have everybody blocked up. Sheridan also clearly stated that the stunts were to stop the run and we ran several stunts in obvious passing situations.

This game was an ultimate fail by the coaching staff. The defense looked decent most of the game except for the penalties. Including the one that sealed the game.

We also have zero receiving talent outside of VJ and MW19. I have serious doubts now about Schiano’s ability as a game day coach.

  111. chipbuc Says:

The facts are the facts, if our defense does its job we go home with a win. Saying FREEMAN DIDNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH GETTING THE LEAD IS JUST A HATER!!!!

  112. Buc1987 Says:

King Diamond…google Greg Schiano. That’s all I’m going to say about that. Steve Spurrier sucked in the NFL. Are you now going to say the SEC sucks too?

  113. Buc1987 Says:

WestCoastBucsFan …but was Geno running for his life most of the time?

  114. Buc1987 Says:

chipbuc…it’s one game buddy..hang in there.

  115. tonytwocents Says:

this loss was beyond Freeman.. its obvious from watching preseason that Schiano will play his starters a pre-determined amount of time, even if they go 3 and out twice and the quarter is done.

so what makes you think he didnt go into this game with a pre-determined set of plays, and at halftime, when things were still close, he told Sully to stick to the plan. thats just speculation, but its plausible. since he seems very detailed oriented, and its either his way or f*ck off! if the offensive gameplan was all Sully, then its on him.

there was no creativity. Freeman used to be a threat as a runner. what happened there??

as far as penalties, thats a reflection of coaching. but even the Ravens won the SB as the most penalized team in the league (I think). so we can look at the line, at Free, Martin, our 3 man pass rush, but at the end of the day, it comes down to the Bossman. Not the Glazers, because theyre proven champions in the NFL & EPL. You can come down on Dominik for our lack of depth, I get that. But he has brought in the Hawk, the Island, and VJ.

Im afraid that if we continue to suck donkey balls, Schiano may look after #1 and bench Freeman and start Glennon to buy himself another season.

  116. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

    @Buc1987

It was sporadic. Sometimes he was pressured but a lot of times he had all day. He would roll out and have a ridiculous amount of time to throw the ball or run. They needed to run way more contain plays to keep Geno in the pocket instead of letting him roam as freely as he did.

  117. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @87

I said he shouldn’t have gone for a TD as earlier posts have suggested…I agreee with you that we needed the 1st down and a roll out (where has that been?) high percentage pass (no such thing with Freeman) might have been the play….but if it is incomplete….we leave another 30 or so seconds on the clock….

  118. Buc1987 Says:

WestCoastBucsFan…lol I had those doubts last season about Schiano. I saw at as learning on the job. I still think it’s too early to tell. If somehow the Bucs beat the Saints then what does one say?

  119. Cmurda Says:

I actually think our defense was darn near dominant. The 2 Pers Fouls by Goldson were pure crap. Even the Lavonte David mistake is debatable. The pussification of the NFL has killed the hard hitting defenses.

  120. King Diamond Says:

@buc1987 you’re right Shiano is gonna be a 1st ballot hall of famer

  121. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Shoulda coulda woulda….we lost….lets move on to NOLA….hey Marcus…did you see those hits?,,,,,Jimmy G….did you see the Jets TE go straight to the locker room?
    See you guys Sunday!!!

  122. Buc1987 Says:

Tampabaybucfan…Yes Freeman rolling out wth happened to that? I just wish we could have gotten out of there with an ugly win. Then corrected ALL the mistakes. Now it’s 0-1 and we have A LOT of mistakes to correct, with the Saints coming to town.

  123. Pelbuc Says:

I now saw that Shiano is a terrible game day coach with no ability to adjust. That was the wrap on him when he was hired and its very evident. Let’s see now after this most recent debacle what these “Buccaneer Men” are made of. Freeman is NOT the QB of the present or future of this team and the rest of the team is mentally weak and not very smart. Also, there are holes all over this team I.e. Stocker, O line, d line, Leonard Johnson, FB, slot wr, MLB…and of course QB! I’m not drinking the cool aid anymore. Good team find a way to win and bad teams find a way to lose.

  124. Buc1987 Says:

King Diamond …wtf is your point anyways after 1 game? Will you be in here next week if the Bucs beat the Saints running your mouth about Schiano? Do you actually have point to make about the Big East vs the SEC Spurrier sucking in the NFL? Make your point then, if not f off.

  125. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

If we beat the Saints then it will reclaim some of my confidence.

  126. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is a game we should have won & needed to win.

The Saints game is a must win…..home game against division opponent. We win that game and we are at least tied for the division lead.

Its bad to lose, but if you have to lose….lose to an AFC team away….

  127. Buc1987 Says:

It remains to be seen whether or not Schiano will correct the mistakes that were made today by EVERYONE on the team. Not just the coaching staff. Bitch and moan in week 4 not week 1. YES I do know the Jets suck, but hey any given Sunday right? Any given Sunday a good team can lose to a crappy team like the Jets. Right?

  128. Buc1987 Says:

What the F ever? Go Bucs anyways. Win or Lose and go F yourselves you fairweather fans!

  129. BucsQcCity Says:

More JB, less LJ and find a way to put someone that can cover as MLB or make him blitz more often because the center is wide open. Others than that (and LVD penalty) I liked the D. I’m just wondering if drafting Barron and paying mad money to Goldson for safeties more recognized for their hard hitting sbility is a good move in the modern NFL

Offense is scary: no TE, no #3 WR, banged up line, an average QB at best… When MW19 got hurt that’s when I realized that this year will not be the breakout year we expected.. Not enough depth and QB situation needs to be adressed.

  130. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I hope the NOLA recievers like our visitor’s locker room….

  131. chris Says:

I think some of you are confusing hate and facts. Do I support Josh Freeman? yes. diehard buc fan who wants to see this team do well. But i’m not going to turn a blind eye when its obvious Freeman hasn’t improved since 2010. He’s regressed and is one of the worst QBs in this league.

I wish we traded for Carson Palmer in the off-season when we were interested. Palmer declined because Mark Dominik is sold on his first draft pick. Schiano isn’t obviously.

  132. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

“I wish we traded for Carson Palmer in the off-season when we were interested. Palmer declined because Mark Dominik is sold on his first draft pick. Schiano isn’t obviously.”

You got a source for any of this because I have never heard this before.

  133. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Chris

I’m not totally there yet, but I’m getting there…..I was hopeful that Freeman would be able to manage the offense well enough that we could win with our defensive improvements.
I think he could do much better but I believe he is being coached poorly…..we need to take some pressure off him. He was constantly 3rd & long today…and he just isn’t going to do well there……he has some weapons…Martin, VJaz, MW19….but he didn’t get much protection & he hasn’t got a TE…or a 3rd reciever….we have all those RBs..and no plays that use more than one at a time.
I will say this…and this is on Freeman…he is not very accurate with his short passes….even with some time. Many of his incompletions with his intermediate & longer passes were basically trow aways….he jus threw to a covered man & there was no way it would be completed most of the time.
We threw one pass to a TE & he was behind the line of scrimage…I don’t think he was an intended target….enough said.

  135. Buc1987 Says:

This team is in dire need of a TE…that is obvious and has been since the preseason.

  136. tmaxcon Says:

if a glennon mob recruiter was to buy me a beer I might be persuaded to joining the glennon mob. i am getting close. freeman’s demeanor has me concerned on and off the field. he looked liked a player who really did not give a shit in his post game presser. i am tired of the regurgitated company line. he is clearly bothered and out of sync. i’ll blame the first half circus on not enough playing time in preseason. Play calling was atrocious. No adjustments. Coaching staff is too rigid / stuborn in game day adjustments. it was clear that martin was getting stuffed why no hillis plays. why not change it up a bit. It does not get any easier next week but the offense needs to come out with fire and attitude. Those goldson hits were clean and will send a message to all future opponents.

  137. chris Says:

Think is, I don’t think Freeman is being coached poorly. I think the staff knows he’s not very good.

Look at the signs: Tried trading for Carson Palmer this offseason. Inquired for Ryan Mallett.

Drafted Mike Glennon. They actively pursued another Qb this offseason.

    From rotoworld.com

“Josh Freeman completed 15-of-31 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the Bucs’ Week 1 loss to the Jets.
Freeman is one of the worst quarterbacks in the league, and there is no way around it. The Bucs know it, attempting to manage and manipulate the contract-year passer with a heavily utilized running game and high-priced defense. Freeman can have big box score games when his receivers are beating cornerbacks, but his fantasy value is completely dependent on it. He’ll be a risky two-quarterback league option in Week 2 against the Saints.”

  138. Buc1987 Says:

Also cut the penalties from this game in 1/2 and the Bucs win an ugly game.

  139. Tampabaybucfan Says:

  140. chris Says:

Plus, even Josh Lynch said, a player who was captain the past 3 years, is not elected this year, is unheard of.

  141. Buc1987 Says:

Keep in mind that I have been VERY depressed after the game. Not pissed off. Just depressed. I will wake up in the morning still depressed after what I saw. I think Schiano on the other hand will wake up tomorrow morning pissed off as hell. Why? Because after today it’s on him now isn’t it? I still trust in him though, ad I’m not giving up on him, because I have seen worse coaches in TB history.

  142. Neil Says:

After looking at the week 1 stats, only Gabbert, Ponder, and Weeden had lower QB ratings than Freeman. And only Gabbert had a lower completion percentage. Woohooo Franchise QB right there.

  143. Buc in DC Says:

The pass rush was better than expected but that consisted of a fair amount of blitzes. Those same blitzes will be picked apart next week with hot routes courtesy of Brees. You can get away with blitzing a rookie but we’ll need to be on our A game for the Aints. Our D is young and yes they will make dumb mistakes but were heading in the right direction. If we can continue to develop our d line, we’ll be really tough. I hated more than anyone to see that loss today, ahhhhhhh, but David and others are great young talent that will only learn from these mistakes. Of course I wanted a win but I think the way we lost should really raise the intensity against NO next week. Anybody know what the attendance should look like next week? I’d love to see some sell outs this year.

  144. chris Says:

    John*

  145. tonytwocents Says:

hey Couch, I know we squared off in the past bout our QB situation… But out of all this talk, I think you hit the nail on the head…

Schiano was looking ahead to next week and didnt want us to open up the playbook until the N.O. game. I’m sure Revis could have played every down. I’m sure they could have thrown some bootlegs or draws to help out the sh!tty o-line. but what do we know?

as far as letting my emotions out after only week 1?? youre got damn right. we’ve all been waiting 9 months for some real football again. I went into this game with no favoritism. I wanted us to win and play like a cohesive unit. and we took a shit all over the place. from the safety to the bullsh!t call on David.

so youre got damn right Im takin a shit all over JBF after just one game! now that its out of my system, on to the next one..

  146. Buc1987 Says:

Tampabaybucfan…I was referring to the pissed off mentality that 80% of the posters on here have been showing.

Chris…Freeman is the only hope the Bucs have this year, so you might as well stop dwelling on how much he sucks and what the Bucs could have gotten instead of him. You, TBBF , me and everyone else is stuck with him regardless of how bad or good he plays in 2013. As for me I still have faith in Schiano to right this ship. Sully on the other hand needs a good talking to by Schiano and Dom. I seriously don’t put all the blame on Freeman for this game, and I don’t think the staff will either after they watch the tape.

  147. Buc1987 Says:

Why did the Bucs lose this game? Penalties. Period!
    Let’s hope it gets fixed.

  148. tonytwocents Says:

    @’87

I used to call in sick after a game like todays. But I when they kicked the winning FG, I just shook my head and chuckled… on to the next one. Thats all you can do brotha.

  149. Buc1987 Says:

chris …I guess since I don’t play fantasy FB anymore. I could care less what fantasy FB say. It’s a team game and penalties cost us this game. There is no 2 ways about it. Right now I don’t think Freeman is on his way to being a “franchise QB” though, but I do think the Bucs have a decent D to keep us in games despite how crappy the Jets offense is. The Saints game will tell us a lot about this D. Dilfer played like crap with a pretty good D and the Bucs still won games. It’s just week 1. I know it appears like the sky is falling because it was the Jets. Trust me, it has been tough day on me too. Like Schiano said in the presser though, it’s pretty much time to put this loss behind us, because the Bucs have the Saints in 6 days. Any given Sunday right? Who’s to say a Bucs team that loss to the crappy Jets, might lose to the Saints this coming Sunday? Any given Sunday, right?

  150. Just A Juggalo Says:

1987, where were you for the 1st 11 years? Bandwagoner?

I hope that’s not a red flag you’ll be waving, the Insane Clowney Posse will be out in force Sunday and waving a red flag at those drunks might get ugly.

That large Hispanic Clowney just might be Miguel.

  151. Buc1987 Says:

tonytwocents…yes but it’s going to take me until atleast maybe Tuesday to get over this. A Bucs win next Sunday and I will be a changed man.

  152. Splengo Says:

    Buc1987,

All Tampa Bay coaches have been fired except the first one and he retired unceremoniously. This one is headed straight for the gallows too. Intractable. Can’t change, won’t change, dead set on proving that Rutgers can win in the NFL with a bigger budget. Just a matter of time. Can’t wait.

  153. Buc1987 Says:

Splengo …I’m glad your so optimistic after 1 game. Hoping for failure. What if the next coach sucks too?

  154. Buc1987 Says:

“Can’t change, won’t change, dead set on proving that Rutgers can win in the NFL with a bigger budget.”

    And you’ve determined this how?

  155. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

    @chris

Look at the signs: Tried trading for Carson Palmer this offseason. Inquired for Ryan Mallett.

Again, I would like to see some sources because I have never heard these claims before and am fairly certain it is either made up or not from a credible source.

  156. Buc1987 Says:

I wonder if LVD would have never pushed Geno and got the flag to set up the FG for the win. What Splengo would have been saying about Schiano today if the Bucs won the ugly game riddled with penalties. I suppose all those penalties were Schiano’s fault too right Splengo? Why don’t you give him a chance to correct the problems with the penalties first instead of whining about him?

WestCoastBucsFan…ditto…I can’t see how this game is all blamed on Freeman.

  158. Buc1987 Says:

Splengo..it’s only been 1 game…why don’t we just fire Schiano now then? I mean hey get it over with early right? Fire him, bench Freeman, bench Martin who was ineffective, bench LVD for making that hit on Geno etc etc etc. Many people are to blame for this loss. Not just Schiano. Even though I’m sure he will take all the blame if anyone were to ask him.

  159. Illuminati Says:

    @WCBF

Back in April, Adam Schefter tweeted that people who know Palmer said that he was hoping to land with the Bucs. Maybe that’s what chris is referring to.

So, Palmer may have been interested in coming here, but I have no idea if the organization was ever seriously interested in Palmer.

  160. Illuminati Says:

    @WCBF

Also, back in March, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reported that the Buccaneers and Browns had expressed interest in trading for Ryan Mallett.

  161. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

Did you see Freemans reaction when we hit the field goal…, PRICELESS !!!!!!! SYAY STRONG BUC FANS !!!!!!!

  162. gotbbucs Says:

Freeman is exactly what he showed us today. I hope nobody is really all that suprised. It’s all or nothing every time. There aren’t many times where we get two or three first downs and then have to punt, it’s a three and out or it’s a scoring drive.
As far as Freeman not going through progressions, what progressions are there to go through? It’s either Williams or Jackson, nobody else is worth throwing to. We will struggle big time this year on offense because we have no complementary players.
I’ve also said this before, this team will go as this O-Line goes. Donald Penn needs to take a long look in the mirror. He has suddenly become our weak link up there. On top of that, he is screaming at people on the bench. That unit needs to get it together or it will be a looooong year.
The Jets front seven is for real, so I”m not all that suprised that we struggled to run the ball.
Our defense played great, so that is encouraging, and so did or special teams.

Another game like that though on offense and I will be calling for some heads, and it won’t just be Freeman.

  163. Splengo Says:

    Buc1987,

Not bloodthirsty. Just see the handwriting on the wall. Didn’t you see the same thing last year in the Redskin and Eagles game where Freeman had given us a lead with seconds left and the defense snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. How can you condone that kind of incompetence?

  164. Buc1987 Says:

WestCoast this is the same lightningbug that was saying on the live chat that he was going to put differences aside with me, and cheer on the Bucs, because it was game day and this is how he acted on the live chat today? And Couch Fan was wondering last night why I was not going to be in the chat today when I said I was staying far away from it Now do you see why Couch Fan? Because of a-holes like this!

    Buc1987? Anyone, anyone?

Raphael, your boyfriend was awful today! All offseason you goobers told us how much the Bucs gave up in points. Today, it was 18 (really only 16). JFro needs to win. BOO!

Anyone seen Buc87 or Buc Junky?

  165. Buc1987 Says:

Splengo.. I saw the Eagles game because I was there. I was pissed at Schiano for the play calling and nobody in the press called him out for it. So I thought I was wrong. I still think it’s too early to tell though for 2013 and yes I absolutely can’t stand his conservative play calling

  166. Buc1987 Says:

lightningbug…cheers against the Bucs to prove that he is right, then says that he’s a big Buc fan? Look how thrilled he was with the Bucs loss. Goober? Please do tell me where your sitting at next weeks game lightningbug so I can spit a goober in your face.

  167. Splengo Says:

    Buc1987,

On that note I will close up shop. I admire your loyalty so don’t give up the fight. You get some sleep too, you’re going to have to probably defend a lot in the coming weeks. Have a good night.

  168. King Diamond Says:

@ buc1987 there is no hope this season it doesn’t take a
Rocket scientist to figure that out you jackass

  169. Capt. Tim Says:

I yelled all Off season, that we need a TE and a Slot reciever. We signed a couple of backups- said the positions weren’t important in our scheme- and did nothing.

Obviously the positions are important, as both failed us miserably today. Also interesting that Martin can’t catch out of the backfield. That hurts us too.

The really obvious truth, is the one I was most nervous about.
Schiano isn’t making the leap from lil Rutgers to the NFL. Last year he was frequently out coached. I hoped it was a one year thing.

Today, it was oblivious he was over his head. This team was so ill prepared- that it was an embarrassment!! No flow or continuity. And This team has talented players. It’s on the coach

Sooo, as usual, I have the sad satisfaction of being right- and the team sucking badly

I’d much rather have been wrong, and the team winning

To paraphrase John MacKay” how do you feel about your coaches execution?” “I’m in favor of it!!”

No. We didn’t deserve to win today. We were outplayed and out coached. If David doesn’t commit that foul, we are nothing but lucky to escape by playing poorly against many predictions of the worst team I te league.
