The New Sackmaster In The House
September 2nd, 2013The Bucs pulled a surprise move yesterday signing the pride of Bowling Green and the MAC Defensive Player of the Year, DT Chris Jones, a rookie sixth-round pick of the Texans. Jones was waived by the Texans and gobbled up by the Bucs.
Joe knows many fans mock the MAC, but it’s produced several stud pros, and Jones racked up 12 1/2 sacks last year. That’s pretty darn rare for a tackle.
In this pre-draft interview below, Jones references a formal scouting combine interview with the Bucs, and talks about how he advised teams and scouts to watch his performance against the Gators to open the 2012 college football season. Joe also read a Toledo Blade story in which Jones said he thought the Bucs were going to draft him.
Joe suspects the Bucs wanted Jones, if they couldn’t get Akeem Spence, who they obviously snagged by trading up in the fourth round. Joe also suspects rookie William Gholston, the Bucs’ other rookie fourth-rounder, might be on thin ice with the presence of Jones.

dont see how this puts Gholston on thin ice since they play completely different positions.

I think it does put someone on thin Ice but I agree I’m not so sure its Gholston.

This only put Underwood or Goode on thin ice……

The guys who were on thin ice have already been released to make room for Jones and Shepard. That would be Underwood and Goode. Gholston isn’t on thin ice. He actually improved as preseason went along and looks to have some nice potential. No way he gets cut, because he’d never make it to the practice squad.

I like the kid. Has a lot of the dreaded “P” word, but he gets a lot of penetration.

Man, he looks like someone out of football for five years squeezing back into his old Bowling Green jersey. (Relatively) small arms and big belly. If he was that productive in that shape, seems like he could really be something after NFL trainers get done with him.

What a JOKE! Once again The Schiano Regime shuns Veteran Players with an actual resume of RUSHING THE PASSER.
They always settle on an inexperienced player with 2 yrs or less out of college or a Rutgers player ( DID RUTGERS WIN THE NATIONAL TITLE?)
The Bucs Coaching Staff is a Joke! They’d be better off handing the Keys to the Offensive Coordinator who has been around Successful NFL TEAMS and would have had access to REAL NFL COACHES to drive the team instead of college guys who quit after 1 season that realized THEY WERE IN OVER THEIR HEADS. Schiano wasn’t a good enough college coach to Turn Tail and RUN BACK to the NCAA Coaching Ranks……..Nobody is calling
