Schiano Refuses Questions About QB Switch
September 26th, 2013Greg Schiano plans to rely on Josh Freeman as his No. 2 quarterback on Sunday, but the head coach refused to talk about Freeman today.
Schiano pulled an interesting tactic at his afternoon news conference; he wouldn’t talk about the landmark franchise altering decision that’s on fans’ minds.
“Yesterday I spent, like, the entire time on Josh and Mike and the quarterback change,” Schiano said.
Ironically, Schiano’s response to questions about Freeman, when Freeman’s no longer is a Buccaneer, will be that he doesn’t talk about guys not on his roster.
So it seems, based on Schiano’s comments today, that Schiano already considers Freeman an outcast.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:22 pm
Good for him. If the media wants to ask about the Arizona game or something that moves us forward then I’m sure Schiano will talk.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:22 pm
I HATE Schiano. That is all…
September 26th, 2013 at 2:30 pm
Schiano hates you too.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:34 pm
Schiano hating him is irrelevant as is anything else he says because he is a walking contradiction, hypocrite and fraud.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:35 pm
BTW Bucs web shop removed #5 Jerseys.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:39 pm
cegeto …yup and I removed mine 3 days after the Saints game for $10 on e-bay.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:40 pm
I agree, enough drama …. let’s move forward, win a ballgame.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:43 pm
Time for Schiano to go be the lb coach/ minion to his idol Belicheat. After kissing his berries and handing over Talib and Blount for what now seems like a “song”, he should get a gig a la Hue Jackson getting hired by the Bengals.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:43 pm
Good for him. Its clear the media are just digging and digging at him so they can try and fabricate more storylines that led up to the benching. Funny thing is, they don’t even take his words at face value, they twist them and read into them way too much just to create drama. Its kind of sad really.
Whats done is done, lets just win some damn games.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:45 pm
Good job coach. No need to talk about yesterdays old news.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:48 pm
And Joe, cmon man. He said that yesterday he spent “the entire time”, meaning his entire press conference, not the entire day. He actually has been pretty loose with the press up until the past few weeks when the “sharks” started circling.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:48 pm
Nothing more to say about the QB situation anyway.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:50 pm
The media could… create s**t and just call it a fairy tale. Absolutely love Schiano and how he deals with the media. Love it even more when he pi$$es on their parade.
Go get em Coach!
September 26th, 2013 at 2:52 pm
personally, i love it when coaches refuse the media so that we get to hear the media whine (sorry, joe) about it. coach has more important things to be doing than beating a dead horse.
of course, i make it worse by consuming every freeman/wheelock tidbit made available by the media. ha.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:53 pm
Yeah, Im a HUGE Schiano hater, but I agree. Lets move on. The arguing over what really went wrong. Basically, everyone failed. From Freeman, to The Glazers, to Dom, to Rah, to Olsen, to Van Pelt, to Sully, to the WRs, and mostly Schiano…
Next man up!
September 26th, 2013 at 2:55 pm
On another note to the media. Schiano is not going anywhere, so deal with it and learn to adjust.
September 26th, 2013 at 2:56 pm
Looking back on this thing.
Josh was drafted by a team that had no veteran leadership at all. Totally gutted. During his tenure the team allowed the most points ever by a buc team in one season, almost set an NFL record for passing yards given up in another, and was broken into the game by a guy who fielded some of the most poorly coached teams ever – on both sides of the ball.
Now they bring in a narcissistic jack ass from Rutgers who runs off one of his favorite offensive targets and insists on a ball control game from the 70’s – in the NFC South no less.
Not sure there is a long list of QB’s who could have prospered in that environment.
But we should know fairly soon if Free was our big problem. I am thinking the answer is a resounding no.
Remember this is a results oriented business coach. Lets see some.
September 26th, 2013 at 3:00 pm
Joe correct me if I’m wrong but I just listened to the entire presser and I did not hear anything that remotely resembles he considers Freeman an outcast or that Freeman’s not on the roster. Where did you get that indication from your own head?
Perhaps posting the presser post haste for all your readers to listen to for themselves might be a good idea. Unless you have some kind of agenda yourself.
If not I’m sure JBF regulars can find the presser and listen for themselves and see where you are coming from with your statements.
Can we just STOP talking about Freeman or is the press never going to let it die?
September 26th, 2013 at 3:08 pm
They let go of the franchise QB that they have been touting for five years and its supposed to be forgotten one day later?
This is the story line for the rest of the year.
September 26th, 2013 at 3:09 pm
I love Schiano. Teams aren’t a country club for players. And the media aren’t entitled answers to anything, no matter how much they act like they are.
September 26th, 2013 at 3:17 pm

_____________________________________________________________
I definitely dont want that country club environment back! but Schiano seems incapable of loosening up, and letting his players have fun, while still remaining disciplined.
remember the Chuky highlights?? that dude would lose his voice every week getting his team pumped up!
September 26th, 2013 at 3:21 pm
They havent removed freeman’s jersey yet but they might as well have done it last year, we kept 3 qb’s, he never endorsed him after the season was over, gave glennon all the preseason reps so its safe to say freeman got worse because he saw this coming…he looked like a shell of himself studdering more than usual this year but hey ok we’ve all moved on because we have no choice but to support glennon lol like we did for josh…josh isnt the only one getting that axe after this season because it seems mark dominick doesnt have a spin either
September 26th, 2013 at 3:26 pm
i meant dominick doesnt have a spine either….
schiano is right though, this is a performance based business so that probably means he wont be able to use a rookie qb as an excuse because i cant remember too many being that horrible starting as rookies…..he could use freeman’s inaccuracy as an excuse but the smell of desperation at one buc place stinks under this regime. ever since dumping our entire roster with derrick brooks and they way that it was done, its coming back to haunt us and we’ve got just as much talent now as we did in his last season but were still in rebuilding mode dominick…your next and i hope your crappy coach goes with you…..he failed at picking freeman but he’s not gonna get another chance to pick another head coach
September 26th, 2013 at 3:32 pm
You have in Glennon a QB that can thread the needle. If the ball comes out of his hands in 2/2.5 seconds, he will succeed. If the offense is still running plays that take 4+ seconds to develop, with his frame, he won’t last long. Success will not be on the QB as much as it will fall on the shoulders of the OC.
September 26th, 2013 at 3:33 pm
^^^^ this whole ordeal makes Schiano come across as the shot caller. and Dominik comes off as his yes man…. and I like Dom
September 26th, 2013 at 3:42 pm
The remains of the Freemanites sure are an angry bunch as of late.
September 26th, 2013 at 3:42 pm
this offense is BASED on low % throws….they dont throw short throws, they throw deep and they run slow developing routes and if they do that he will certainly fail because even mobile qb freeman had no luck scrambling for some reason in this offense. he’s been top 5 in rushing qb’s in his career and top touchdown to int ratio in his career and all before schiano…..the entire team was garbage the year they got rid of raheem morris….but sooner or later what happened with josh and schiano will come out, i cant wait
September 26th, 2013 at 4:14 pm
funny how the MGM finally get their guy, but still want to stir up beef with those of us who chose to stand by our guy on the field.
and as we choose to support the new guy under center, they still cant let it go…
September 26th, 2013 at 4:26 pm
this whole ordeal makes Schiano come across as the shot caller. and Dominik comes off as his yes man…. and I like Dom
—————————————————————————————It is pretty obvious who is in charge in Tampa, and his name is not Mark Dominik.
It sure looks like the Rockstar has been “neutered” by Coach Schiano.
September 26th, 2013 at 4:43 pm
unfortunately, I agree apple. I appreciate all the talent we have right now due to Dominiks work. Even without Freeman, we still have a core group of ballers on both sides of the ball. And the Glazers stinginess at the right time, and the signings and picks by Dom at the right time, made it happen.
September 26th, 2013 at 4:50 pm
Daaammmn!
I just walked into a mobbers convention led by the king of all mobbers Couch Fan. Now listen Couch, you need to put a muzzle on this love for Schiano talk until Sunday around 4pm. Your henchmen just heard Schiano gloss over the importance of Glennon practicing with Mike Will and V-Jax.
This sounds like a 20 car pile up on I-95 waiting to happen. He seemed nervous and defensive to me, kinda like a man headed for the gallows. Better hold up this circle jerk until you know it’s okay to have happy time. Wouldn’t want to see you and the mobbers trying to take the residue back come Sunday night.
You see I like you Couch. Wouldn’t want to see you lose your chairmanship of the mobber bunch. Lol
September 26th, 2013 at 5:09 pm
It’s the Josh Freeman Fan Club vs the Mike Glennon Mob.
September 26th, 2013 at 5:30 pm
@Splengo
Nothing will muzzle me. I get enjoyment out of watching yous pout and whine and cry all because Freewee got benched. I’ll be here to the bitter end. Winnin with Glennon!! GO BUCS!!
September 26th, 2013 at 5:41 pm
the only thing that’ll muzzle you is Glennons cocck.
September 26th, 2013 at 5:42 pm
Good job coach
Don’t give the monsters more ammunition.
Even though they’ll use even this against you
September 26th, 2013 at 5:45 pm
I forgive you for your stupidity Mak. We will be united once Glennon gets us a few W’s. I expect you to have a new man crush very soon. Get your lube ready!
September 26th, 2013 at 5:55 pm
I see no difference between the Tampa media and the NY media this season does anyone else? Heck we weren’t covered this much in the media our Super Bowl year!
September 26th, 2013 at 6:13 pm
PRBucFan,
I don’t usually address anybody unless they’re at the top of the mobber hierarchy, but I’ll ask this just once. I think we have a chance to beat the Cards, the Bills, and maybe the Eagles. What other teams do you think we beat
?
If after a 10-6 season in 2010 and a 4-12 season in 2011 when Morris was fired. If after going 7-9 last year, if Schiano goes 3-13 this year, should he fired?
In case PRBuc gets the yips, any other mobber may feel free to respond.
September 26th, 2013 at 6:31 pm
I’m glad Coach Schiano has moved on from talking about this! I don’t get why this is so hard for some folks to understand? Freeman has regressed not progressed over his career. He has lost 8 of the last 9 games he started…has more interceptions than any QB in the NFL since the begining of the 2011 season…his team is 0-3 so far this year and he is completing less than 50% of his passes…he also missed the team photo, was late for meetings, and lacks the leadership and instincts of a top QB! That’s why he is no longer the starter in Tampa! There is no conspiracy going on here and the only drama seems to be the one certain media outlets are making from it! I wish Josh well in the rest of his career…Go Get Em’ Mr. Glennon! Let’s beat Arizona on Sunday!!!
September 26th, 2013 at 6:55 pm
Jeagan,
You’re probably a nice guy and a true Buc fan, but don’t you ever mention that Freeman lost 8 of the last 9 games unless you add “6 of which we had the lead with seconds left on the clock with no timeouts and Josh Freeman sitting on the bench watching Schiano pi$$ those games away”. Thanks in advance.
September 26th, 2013 at 7:00 pm
Hard to fathom but they actually found a coach worse than Morris.
September 26th, 2013 at 7:06 pm
I’m not a mobber by any means lmbo, I have never said I think Glennon is the answer but I have KNOWN and said on numerous occasions that Free was going to end up just like this.
I want Glennon to do well but I have not seen any in season action of him to make any kind of opinion on his play. Let alone the fact that he’s only a rookie. He deserves an ample amount of opportunities to grow and learn from his mistakes. I EXPECT rookie mistakes. I would rather watch a rookie make them than a 5 year vet.
As far as Schiano goes, i don’t usually address speculations cause I think they are moronic and a waste of time but IF he does go 3-13 I believe he deserves 1 more season, one full season with a quarterback names not Freeman, with his system implemented even more firmly. But that just me, if ownership decides otherwise I support and trust the organization. So we shall see.
Mobber… lol
September 26th, 2013 at 7:19 pm
OK PRBuc
Sorry about the cheap shot. My bad. But when I’m on mobber patrol sometimes an innocent person gets hit with a stray shot. In order to prevent this from happening in the future, stay out of the company of all known mobbers. Lol
September 26th, 2013 at 7:23 pm
lol No Problemo
September 26th, 2013 at 8:27 pm
Eric- lol. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse!
Now we are a horrible team, with good talent, and no QB!
It’s all about the QB. How do you explain 0-16, with 8 or 9 Probowlers on the roster? Raheem didn’t have one!
September 26th, 2013 at 8:57 pm
“It is pretty obvious who is in charge in Tampa, and his name is not Mark Dominik. It sure looks like the Rockstar has been “neutered” by Coach Schiano.”
Or dominick is playing good poker again…knowing schiano wants full control and at least one will be fired,he is gonna let him shoot himself in the sack
September 26th, 2013 at 10:01 pm
I am NOT..repeat NOT a BD fan, but he amped it up today and basically said the Bucs had no choice but to bench Free due to off field issues. I may have been an early Free basher but I do hate to see someone throw so much away.
I really hope Glennon rises to the challenge with great team, and fan, support.
I think Schiano is taking the high road on this one.
September 26th, 2013 at 10:15 pm
BTW Joe, if BD is indeed correct that Free lost his role due to personal problems that no one can publicly talk about, including the two of you, it’s a damn cheap shot at Schiano when he won’t talk about Free’s problems either.
I saw you deleted a post this morning (after I read it) about Free’s supposed behavior in the off-season. I fully understand and support your decision to delete it due to legal concerns. Don’t you think Schiano should be afforded the same courtesy and not bashed when he takes the same path as you and respects the man’s privacy.
September 26th, 2013 at 11:07 pm
Don’t buy into the Glennon Mob on this site, trust me most of them will turn in a heartbeat if he struggles. There is no loyalty on this site LoL. They turn in JOE lol
September 26th, 2013 at 11:11 pm
Only if he stinks it up for 5 years straight jacko101
But your a hater and hope the team fails. You’ve said so yourself… so you have no room to talk moron.
September 27th, 2013 at 1:20 am
Somewhere Ronde and Raheem are laughing at us coming on a left-handed cigarette because they’ll be the only ones with secure jobs at the end of the season
September 27th, 2013 at 7:26 am
There’s no reason for Coach College-boy to talk about the QB’s- he knows nothing about the position.
September 27th, 2013 at 9:49 am
I used to like Schiano. Now, I think he is super stubborn.
By the way, the Bucs have been spying on Josh.
Josh has been partying so much, that even Dom has become fed up.
Dom was Josh’s biggest fan.
And finally Dom had seen enough. So Dom, felt personally betrayed by Josh’s off the field behavior.
Boomer Esiason mentioned it in 2011.
Josh is a diva! A typical, rich, spoiled, coddled, arrogant, selfish diva.
I am so bummed it didnt work out with Josh.
He has all the tools to be incredible. But he doesnt love football.
So, he may be out of the NFL before the age of 30 unless he gets focused.
