Revis Already In Jets Receivers’ Heads

September 7th, 2013

Who did opposing quarterbacks worry about in the Bucs’ secondary last year?

Nobody. The fearsome foursome only tortured the souls of Bucs fans.

But now Darrelle Revis is here and supposedly healthy. And he’s already been injected into the heads of Jets receivers by Jets coaches. Rich Cimini, Jets beat writer for ESPN.com, explains that New York receivers have been advised that sloppy route-running won’t cut it this week.

3. Club Dread, an island adventure: Head coach Rex Ryan says the Jets won’t make a concerted effort to attack Revis even though he’s playing for the first time after major knee surgery. Do we believe him? Revis might not be Revis — not yet, anyway — but you get the impression the Jets still are deathly afraid of their former star. The receivers were told to place an extra emphasis on not tipping routes. If there’s a tell, Revis will jump the route, and then you’re looking at a potential interception.

What the Jets should do is test Revis against the run. Unlike many cornerbacks, he’s always been aggressive in run support. Will he be tentative because of his surgically repaired knee? Don’t be surprised if they call a power sweep on the first series.

All the attention on Revis is fun, but Joe doesn’t expect Revis or Bucs cornerbacks to be a huge factor in Sunday’s game.

The Bucs should — key word “should” — have no problem outscoring the Jets and Geno Smith. The Jets will take a ton of chances on defense, and the Bucs have the talent to make them pay.

You can best believe that we will get our share of short passes, slants, dink & dunk…..its the gameplan against us for most teams and I don’t expect the Jets will be any different.
They want to establish some confidence in their rookie QB early. That with a dose of running is what we will see.
You can forget any deep throws early.

  3. OB Says:

Joe, are all of you forgetting the safety we signed and is one of the team’s captains? Or that the other safety is now playing his natural position and has help for two, count them, two experts in the back field? Oh, the other cornerback, take your choice is also a bruiser?

Of course our linebackers are all mild and hate to tackle since nobody every mentions that are worth anything. And finally our DL, not a star among them, well we do have a PBer who is also a Captain and seems to be a leader, well we did lose a nine sack DE who had a bad shoulder, I wonder if he is playing now or is on IR? We did get two DEs back one starting one, we don’t know what he is going to do because he doesn’t either yet. And just think we acquired a new tackle who is strong and fast, of course he is a rookie playing next to a PBer who is a leader.

Based on what most have written, we will be lucky to make a tackle before they make a first down on the play. I must disagree, I am old enough to have watched live the Deacon Jones and Marlin Olson Fearsome Foursome, the Purple People Eaters, the Steel Curtain, etc. They were TEAMS not individuals, they played together which meant they played their positions and filled their holes and they never quit. I would call Coach Schiano should be called the Major because when I went to war, Captains worked for Majors and the Majors gave broad guidance to the Captains who in turn told the NCO’s take care of it. I don’t know who the NCO’s are on this team but they are the one that make it tick and they are there, just hidden.

I have not done the offense because if you look, this is their second year under a Ranger, if I remember correctly, and they never like to lose and will do everything possible to make sure they don’t, so you want to see an offense, watch, you will be surprised.

So tomorrow just sit back and enjoy what happens and remember not many teams go undefeated in a season, what counts is that you win the last game in the playoffs.

I’m not getting myself too far ahead in this win. SHOULD we win this game? Yes. But the Jets still have a very good defense. That means, who knows how Freeman will perform. Watch the last 6 weeks of last season and defenses easily gameplaned Freeman by rattling him, mixing a lot of zone, and that baited him into terrible decisions.

I don’t care how the media portrays this. Its Woody Johnson who has the Media circus rant going. Rex Ryan is still one of the best defensive minds in the game, so they can keep this one close. It depends on Freeman.

Chris…I’m also pretty sure that the Bucs coaching staff has watched the last 6 games of 2012 on tape too. Hopefully they have corrected some things. Well since I’m a full believer in Schiano. I’m willing to bet that they have corrected things.

I got everything OB said, very well put, and no I’m not military but I get it clearly!
