Report: Bucs Have Benched Josh Freeman
September 25th, 2013Wait a minute! Greg Schiano just said on Monday that Josh Freeman is his starting quarterback.
But moments ago ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter Twittered that the Bucs have made the move to Mike Glennon.
Joe is stunned. Schiano is moving all-in with “his guy,” clearly putting his coaching career in Tampa on the line.
What Joe can say is that Mike Williams told Joe last week that Glennon’s serious preparation as a backup is unlike anything he’s ever seen. So maybe that’s one tiny upside to this move.
However, Joe is troubled by Schiano’s logic here. It was Schiano who judged Freeman to be worthy of starting, worthy of leading the Bucs to the promised land. Has Schiano already backtracked on his own scouting and assessments? After three games? This is all troubling, to say the least.
Schiano always says he makes moves to give the Bucs the best chance to win. That’s hard to believe in this case.
Joe suspects the front office and Schiano eventually will reveal that they reached a decision this week that Josh Freeman had no chance of being offered a 2014 contract, therefore they’re seeing what they have now in Glennon for the good of the franchise and its future decisions.
These are wild times, Bucs fans. (Stick with Joe through the day for reaction at One Buc Palace.)
September 25th, 2013 at 8:57 am
I think they went over game tape….
September 25th, 2013 at 8:57 am
Yea..news is now everywhere. Welcome to the Glennon era folks….
September 25th, 2013 at 8:58 am
News is spreading now!
http://nflmocks.com/2013/09/25/report-josh-freeman-benched-mike-glennon/
September 25th, 2013 at 8:59 am
Good move. Let him play. Evaluate the tape. See the problems. Work on them over the bye.
September 25th, 2013 at 8:59 am
This was inevitable though it is shocking to see it before the bye. Freeman is what he is, good on his best day and in the coversation for worst QB in the league on his worst. Let’s see with Mike can do.
September 25th, 2013 at 8:59 am
Welcome to “Just Wait Foe Next Year!”
Is this a play for Bridgewater?
September 25th, 2013 at 9:00 am
In related news, Raphael just killed himself.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:01 am
Freeman out? WOW! He has struggled but play calling is a bigger issue! 0-16 here we come! As solid as the defense has played, our offense cant score then and wont now!!! TEDDY BRIDGEWATER!!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:01 am
Great! Now I’ll get to watch a QB make rookie mistakes who’s actually a rookie and not a 5th year vet. Splendid!!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:02 am
Does this mean b ig d og will now host the “Mike Glennon Show”
September 25th, 2013 at 9:02 am
“You can’t have a loaded roster in 2 years”, “Josh is our starter”, ” I’ll have to look at the game tape”. Schiano has finally realized his job is at stake. It only took 3 dumpster fires games on offense to realize it. Hey at least he’s not stubborn!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:02 am
Wow, after coach said all the crap yesterday? Oh well, no where to go but up. How much worse can it get.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:02 am
And oh by the way, Hitler is still our coach!! Bring on the dictatorship!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:04 am
RIP my productivity at work today. Also should be fun for Raphael and Makaveli and the rest to pile on Schiano now for this.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:04 am
I find it hard to believe.
If true, I think it is a mistake. However if Glennon is indeed the new starter I’ll try to find positives in him. However, this move could well alienate Schiano’s team.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:04 am
Damn, knew this was coming, doesn’t make it feel any better….
I had a lot of hope in you Freeman, and now we have to suffer through watching this guy play because you didn’t deliver.
2-14 is my new prediction.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:04 am
EJ has won already this year with a lesser team than the Bucs, Glennon beat EJ with a lesser team than FSU. Lets see what Glennon can do.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:04 am
Vorblaw, that’s exactly what I thought would be the case. You either use the bye to get him ready or let him get his feet wet beforehand, then use the bye to evaluate and work on the flaws. I think it’s a good move for the long-term.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:04 am
IT’S A NEW DAY IN TAMPA BAY!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:05 am
The bright side is that the world and front office will see that Glennon is NOT the answer!!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:06 am
No reason to keep Freeman in @ 0-3 and no real shot @ playoffs. plus he is a FA at end of season. Maybe we can get a trade for a draft pick before he walks.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:09 am
The Bucs cannot get any value for Freeman, and if certain conditions are met they’ll get a compensatory pick for losing him as a free agent. I’d rather hang on to him and maybe get a 3rd or 4th as a compensatory pick then trading Freeman for a 6th or 7th rounder.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:09 am
“However, this move could well alienate Schiano’s team.”
Or the opposite.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:09 am
Time to eat crow.
I said it wouldn’t happen and it did. Less than a day later.
As I said, I think it is a huge mistake. However…if he doesn’t do well the locker room will fall apart. So I hope he is a Peyton Manning clone.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:09 am
Say goodbye to this season!
If Josh couldn’t hack it and make it to the playoff’s I promise you Glennon has no shot. A ROOKIE?! Come on guys I know Free isn’t a stud but he’s better and more experienced then Glennon. All we have now is a building year for a young QB..f*cking great you idiot fans. Glad I’m not actually from Florida..then this would be even more embarrassing!
This team is doomed and has been since their inception. Sand 1998-2001
September 25th, 2013 at 9:09 am
Whatever happened to the Schiano principles of trust and accountability? Didn’t he just say Josh is his starter just a few days ago? I don’t expect a head coach to shoot straight all the time, for the sake of keeping the opponent guessing, but come on.
I was expecting this move after this weekends game. If Josh didn’t lay well at home, Glennon could be named the starter and have the bye week to prepare for his first game.
If the report is true, Schiano and Dominik just hitched their wagon to Glennon. Where it takes them, only time will tell.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:10 am
Boom..Implosion ! Sunday bloody Sunday..Glennon won’t make it thru the end of the year before he’s injured. Besides it’s the system not the players. This offense should fit the players we have and it just does not. Thankfully this move will accelerate the removal of Schiano..
September 25th, 2013 at 9:10 am
^ *sans
September 25th, 2013 at 9:10 am
First let me say that I will be pulling for Glennon all the way come Sunday. Now to complete the transition, Freeman should be cut or traded or sent to IR. Never again should he take another Buccaneer snap. From now on, this should be the Schiano/Glennon show.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:10 am
Im on the Glennon bandwagon…dont forget he beat out russell wilson for the starting job at NC State which made wilson transfer out. Lets see what the kid can do!!!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:10 am
Trade Josh to Cleveland for Josh Gordon
September 25th, 2013 at 9:11 am
Do work mike
September 25th, 2013 at 9:11 am
Joe,
You seemed really, really confident about him not being benched. Did you have a source for that? Or was this just your hunch?
I supported Freeman for several seasons before I felt that what I saw what his game was. Not terrible, but, not a starter in my book. Too inaccurate. Too inconsistent.
I sure hope people give Glennon the same opportunity. Freeman got 58 chances. Give Glennon 5 chances.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:11 am
Splengo your a true moron, have fun on Sunday puking your guts out all day.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:11 am
With schiano contradicting everything he has said if glennon comes and tanks to the cards he will lose this team if he hasnt already,az has a very underrated d too
September 25th, 2013 at 9:12 am
Wow.
We will see if a change at QB can spark respectable offensive output.
Interesting.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:12 am
If Glennon does not do well expect a salary dump next year. No way Freeman returns after his contract is up now.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:13 am
I wonder if Schiano polled the captains (or they came to him) and they wanted this move. They did strip Freeman and his performances have been underwhelming.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:14 am
Crazy stuff.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:14 am
I still need to hear it from the horses mouth
September 25th, 2013 at 9:14 am
What a terrible decision. Vincent Jackson had the best year of his career last year with Freeman, better than anything Philip Rivers ever did. They guy threw for over 4000 yards. They ruined Freeman. I’m completely disheartened by this team. I love them, but it will be tough for me to watch again this year. Thank God hockey is starting and the Lightning look good!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:14 am
I don’t even want to watch the games anymore. It’s going to be a blood bath.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:14 am
Can’t get over the excitement for Glennon to be out starting QB. Where did he play in college? How many touchdowns did he have? Oh yeah how many picks? And title games? Oh and add in those title game victories! I mean we did draft him 3rd round! We are absolutely done for this season. I am literally laughing out loud at you idiots that would rather have Mike Glennon 3rd round draft pick to start of Freeman. It’s not the QB it’s the whole offense. Get a grip people, get a grip.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:15 am
Doubting Thomas, that was a joke, right? At this point we would be lucky to get a bag of footballs for Freeman.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:15 am
Hopefully, this means they have found a trade partner for Freeman.
Beaker is gonna have a hard time dodging those Blitzes- with no TE , slot reciever, or recieving back to dump it off too!!
Kid is gonna eat so much turf, that they’ll have to re-sod the stadium!
Now if they will just fire Dim and General Schiano, we can official start our next rebuild
September 25th, 2013 at 9:16 am
@Travis
Thank you, now we have Glennon trying to connect with Williams and Jackson. Great..just great. My laughing is turning to tears.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:16 am
My ticket has Freeman on it in a throwback jersey. Who do I call for a refund?
September 25th, 2013 at 9:17 am
They’d better shut down the Sunshine Skyway – the JFro Jock Sniffers are coming unhinged.
IT’S A NEW DAY IN TAMPA BAY
September 25th, 2013 at 9:18 am
I have not read any responses on this report but let’s start being better fans then we’ve been . this could be a good move or bad move at the end of the day I’m a BUC FAN regardless 16-0 or 0-16!!!! So before we learn how to be the best GMs and coaches , let’s learnhow to be the best fans . GO BUCS . SEE YOU SUNDAY . I WILL BE IN THE ENDZONE WAITING
September 25th, 2013 at 9:18 am
Schiano will lose this team if Glennon stinks up the joint.
At least I can look forward to seeing this two-faced college coach get fired.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:18 am
As a buc fan, I am not happy with any of this. All this means is our season is done. Glennon did not even beat out Freeman in pre-season. If he was good enough, he would have beat him out. Glennon is now a seat warmer as the bucs implode and changes are made again. It will take two seasons to fix. This is a real disaster and I see bucs fans happy. WOW! What we all needed to root for was Freeman to have a great season and a playoff birth. THis is worst case scenrio. Glennon mob get ready to pull out the excuses like dropped passes, lack of tight end talent, or O line. Take your pick. I am not a Freeman die hard just a die hard bucs fan. The bucs need Leadership. it has been lacking for a few years for GM to QB.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:19 am
Mike,
I understand your frustration with my post because you have not been following my earlier posts. Trust Splengo on this one. I still love ya man!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:19 am
With the 2nd pick of the 2014 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select… (Enter name)
September 25th, 2013 at 9:19 am
@Mike
Freeman in college, in a B12 where QBs had absurd stats every single year.
Kansas State 680 1151 59.1 8078 7.0 6.5 44 34 124.7
And now, Glennon’s.
NC State 646 1069 60.4 7411 6.9 6.8 63 31 132.3
One cost moving up and a 1st rounder. The other a third. One got 58 pro starts. The other hasn’t had even a game yet.
What exactly did Freeman do in college again???
September 25th, 2013 at 9:19 am
AGREE WALTER. Two faced is being kind and he had QB problems at Rutgers.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:19 am
Philip Rivers is at least twice as good a QB as Josh Freeman, so the fact Freeman was the QB when VJax had his best season isn’t relevant. Look at the bodies of work people. I’d kill for Philip Rivers as our QB. Instead NC State has 3 starting QBs. What a football factory huh?
September 25th, 2013 at 9:20 am
The only good that will come of this is the ejection of Schiano at the end of the season where we end up 2-14 or 3-13 and a top 5 draft pick to draft the possible future franchise QB. Freeman wasn’t going to be the long term answer but the potential to get the peak of Six Flags was at least there allowing us a chance to go on a run; turning to a lowly touted 3rd round rookie is hardly the smart play to turn the season around. It reeks of desperation but a meathead coach who thinks we can “out tough everyone” in the modern pass first NFL. I think I still have my paperbag in my attic somewhere from the Ole Sombrero days; time to go dig it out.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:21 am
Also Phillip rivers and tj Yates might be behind the seen at this moment
September 25th, 2013 at 9:21 am
“This is a real disaster and I see bucs fans happy. WOW! ”
Josh Freeman was the disaster. He won’t be playing now. That’s why I’m happy. DUH!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:22 am
So Glennon beat out Russell Wilson at NC State and I believe Butch Davis was the coach. I am rooting for Glennon to succeed but I can’t see how he beat out Wilson at NC State. How that happened which makes me wonder why Davis is helping evaluate for the Buc’s organization. It maybe a mess Sunday but it will be a slightly different mess.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:22 am
Part 1 of my prediction is complete. Part 2? Shiano is fired and Sullivan takes over… after the bye… BAM!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:22 am
Hey Joe while I never agreed with your most recent takes that Schiano would not make this move I can’t believe he did it the week before the bye when I think most of us believed that it would happen for sure. There just has to be a whole lot of other stuff going on between Freeman and Schiano or with Freeman’s personal life that we still don’t know about but I’m sure it will now all come out. Freeman definitely has not been playing at the level that he should be at this point in his career but he also hasn’t gotten much help from Schiano, from play calling, and his offensive teammates.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:23 am
Good point! Trade freeman for a good TE or Greg little, not Josh Gordon. Gordon is one traffic stop away from being suspended for a year. Perhaps the Vikings will let Rudolph go for freeman and a draft pick. I am being extremely optimistic lol
September 25th, 2013 at 9:25 am
I love how many people aren’t even giving the guy a chance.
I questioned the drafting of Freeman, but, I said, Hey, let’s see what he can do. I waited, and waited, and waited. And, he showed signs, but, at the end of the day, he is still the same guy that he was at K State.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:26 am
Where’s theodore and couch fan?
September 25th, 2013 at 9:29 am
Josh had 5 years to prove be was an NFL starter. Every single expert said the Bucs will go as far as Freeman can take them. Considering they have 1-8 their last 9 games I think Glennon can duplicate that.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:29 am
No one is trading for Freeman.
I stated earlier this summer that I didn’t think Glennon would never start a game in a Bucs uni and if he did it was because Freeman tanked, well Freeman tanked. Good luck Mike, you’re probably just keeping the seat warm for Mariota.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:30 am
@Lightningbuc so you are okay that your favorite teams season is on the verge of circling the drain after three weeks. Good for you. I agree with you on Freeman but I am not happy about this whole situation. I am dissappointed that the bucs need to make changes. In the future, please be more respectful if you are going to quote me and comment. Duh is not respectful. Thanks
September 25th, 2013 at 9:31 am
well, this will make Sunday interesting at least.
free is bring. Glennon will bring new life, but moreso fire and preparation!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:31 am
Also,
This goes as a clear learning moment for the people who want to listen to actual interviews coming from OBP or any team’s front office, and get mad anonymous reports:
Guess what, they don’t tell you how they really feel!!! So don’t get mad when unnamed reports get published. That’s usually where a lot of news comes from. Coaches give you exactly what they are NOT thinking.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:32 am
HAHAHAHA….about F N time…..THANK YOU!!!!
Glennon, please do a better job….and Receivers, please stop the dropsies (he’s gonna need help, HE’S A ROOKIE!)
September 25th, 2013 at 9:33 am
I smell a trade to come REAL SOON…..Get what you can Dom!!!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:33 am
Ok well now that is done let’s roll rookie – minimize turnovers and manage the game you will be fine!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:34 am
NO WAY!! No Oregon QB’s!!!! I am not giving up on this season, this team is to good!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:34 am
The freemanites are committing suicide in a blog site.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:34 am
Hopefully the Glazers are now looking for a new GM and coach for next year. Time for next rebuild.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:35 am
Raphael. – feel free to jump ship
September 25th, 2013 at 9:35 am
Butt Glennon gives our best chance to be 0-4,Schiano says….Should of at least played Free this Sun and given chicken legs another 2 weeks to prepare for the asswhoopin of his life.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:35 am
Oil Derrick,
Not saying Freeman was great in college because he wasn’t, but I’m confused why people want Glennon to start. He has done NOTHING to prove he can, at least Josh as 2010 and some other flashes of skill. Glennon was not even thought about as a first round draft prospect, not ever! At least Free drew the attention coming out of of college.
Just saying. From a winning standpoint. Bad decision. We are done.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:36 am
0-16 Baby!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:37 am
@Splengo
My apologies I’m a douche with a keyboard. Kidding, jumped to conclusions.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:37 am
[…] And so it begins. The Bucs have benched Josh Freeman and replaced him with Mike Glennon. [JoeBucsFan] […]

September 25th, 2013 at 9:38 am
If there’s anyone who needs to take a Sunday off it’s Greg Schiano and not Josh Freeman.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:38 am
Mike Glennon trending on twitter…
September 25th, 2013 at 9:39 am
All you people saying Glennon had no chance because he is a rookie must not watch the NFL at all.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:39 am
“Glennon was not even thought about as a first round draft prospect”
Who cares? More than half the starting QBs weren’t first round – some not even in the first 3 rounds. But Ryan Leaf was! So was Jamarcus Russell! But not Tom Brady. Nor Joe Flacco.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:40 am
I feel like I just got paroled.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:41 am
@Eternally Optimistic Homer
I think it’s just the opposite. I think support for Freeman had already significantly eroded among the veteran players.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:41 am
Now we’ll find out if the horrific playcalling came from the bench or poor audibles/checks.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:42 am
“All you people saying Glennon had no chance because he is a rookie must not watch the NFL at all.”
Right on Pewter Power! I bet the same thing was said about 12 years ago when the Patriots decided to go with a certain SIXTH round pick at QB!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:43 am
Told you Joe! What better time than before a bye to review tape in game time situation and have 2 weeks to work on issues!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:43 am
@Mike
College was 6 years ago, my man.
2010 was a long time ago too. Most great QBs don’t wait until the end of their career to blossom, unless your name is Gannon.
After 58 starts, I feel like I know what Freeman gives the team, and does not give the team.
Glennon has done nothing to prove he can?? When has he had the opportunity to show you anything? Have you ever seen Glennon play a whole game with the starters? That’s my point, no one has. Preseason shows nothing. No starters for more than a quarter, etc.
The coaches clearly felt they needed to see what Glennon brings to the table. If he isn’t the guy, then they need to start prepping to get another.
How long did you to give Freeman? 6 years? 7?
and “from a winning standpoint”? Have you seen our record? Have you seen Freeman’s starting record? His career stats? There’s zero to show he can do it consistently, year in and year out.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:48 am
To clarify some misinformation on this blog comments: Mike Glennon did not “beat out Russell Wilson”; Glennon got the job as starter the same way he got the Buc’s starting job; he was given it. Russell Wilson went to play MLB and left NC State; then Glennon took over. When he quit MLB he went to Wisconsin even though Nc State asked him to come back for his senior season. If you want to see how Glennon’s percieved let’s watch what the Vegas line does the next couple of days. The Bucs were a 2.5 to 3 point favorite prior to this announcement; we’ll see where the line goes now with Glennon at the helm. I wish the kid luck as I’m a diehard bucs fan/season ticket holder 20+ years. However, nothing he did in the preseason instilled any kind of confidence he’s our guy. FireSchiano.com needs to become a thing; Tank for Teddy & start anew in 2014! Go Bucs!
September 25th, 2013 at 9:49 am
Hey Glazer Family. Time for you to admit you f up. Get on your hands and knees and beg John Gruden to come back.
I wonder why the Bucs are having a hard time selling out…
September 25th, 2013 at 9:54 am
Why you say that? Because of the success of RGIII, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson? Those guys **won** the starting job in their respective pre-seasons last year in particular Russell Wilson. Mike Glennon is none of those guys and he didn’t do anything in the pre-season against future factory workers to make anyone believe otherwise..
Do the Mike Glennon supporters really believe this offense is all of the sudden going to start clicking when the Bucs coaching staff trots out the same vanilla offense against the Cardinals? This move fixes nothing. If there’s anyone who needs to take a Sunday off it’s Greg Schiano.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:58 am
Uhhh….Tom Bray wasn’t a rookie when he took over for an injured Drew Bledsoe. If Bledsoe doesn’t get injured that year chances are Brady doesn’t start.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:58 am
@D-Rome
I don’t know that Glennon will fix anything. He is an unknown. I have never judged any QB ever on preseason performance. Have you?
We all know what Freeman gives us. I’m ready for the unknown. Freeman wasn’t going to be here in 2014. Even his most ardent supporters have acknowledged this. So, let’s move on. Glennon for now. Maybe next year, maybe someone else. But, at least we are not settling for Freeman’s up and down play.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:58 am
@MTM, Butch was @ Tar heels!
September 25th, 2013 at 10:03 am
The Teddy Bridgewater era has begun!!!!!!!!!!!1
September 25th, 2013 at 10:05 am
@Adam and @lightning, ROFLMFAO HAHAHAHA….its a beautiful day in Tampa Bay!!
September 25th, 2013 at 10:08 am
Look, Freeman’s a millionaire who really doesnt care! Thats the bottom line.
At least Glennon will CARE and TRY HIS BEST IN THE 1ST QTR as much as the 4TH!
September 25th, 2013 at 10:12 am
So, if a guy is a first rounder, you will support him, regardless, for now into 5 seasons?
A third rounder? Zero games. Got it.
September 25th, 2013 at 10:13 am
All we need is a 51% completion rate and we’re rockin’.
September 25th, 2013 at 10:13 am
Ah yes because just like pop warner football the NFL is all about “who tries the hardest”. I don’t care if our QB is a whiner, cry baby lazy millionaire, i care that he gives us the best chance to win games. Unfortunately I don’t think Freeman or Glennon does much to help us win anything. Tank for Teddy, 2014 Go Bucs!!
September 25th, 2013 at 10:16 am
The Bucs cannot get Teddy Bridgewater unless they’re giving up the RGIII level package to get him. Jacksonville is a survived abortion of a football team. Its Terrible for Tajh or Horrible for Hundley.
September 25th, 2013 at 10:17 am
Was a big Freeman supporter I’ll admit. Now it’s Glennon and I’ll be at the game cheering for him. This sounds like Freeman has lost his desire to be here in Tampa and both the players and coaches sense it. This is just my opinion, but there seems to be a huge lack of fire and motivation coming from Freeman. Maybe Glennon will provide the spark needed!
September 25th, 2013 at 10:23 am
Good luck Glennon.
Seeing as this comes immediately after Schiano called Freeman the starter, I am sure someone else had a strong hand in this decision. Possibly ownership. I agree with others that say if this is true to trade Freeman right away.
I hope Glennon is the next Tom Br-ady.
September 25th, 2013 at 10:33 am
I don’t know if this kid ever got time behind the starters in camp or has until now. But. Freeman was thrown to the wolfs too. Just a little later into the season. Of topic Noble was released yesturday so maybe they will make another move today.

Glennon gives Schiano the best chance to survive the next 3 losses. Any accidental wins are a bonus.
September 25th, 2013 at 10:37 am
Wow, were screwed! Hope we trade Freeman for Cousins. Need a real QB who wants to win and has leadership abilities.
September 25th, 2013 at 10:44 am
Nobody is offering the Bucs much for Freeman who is unrestricted at year end. The Bucs aren’t accepting less than a 3rd round pick because that is what they are likely to get as a compensatory pick in the offseason when Freeman leaves. A trade is highly, highly unlikely.

So I wake up this morning in the lower village at Whistler mountain Vancouver and this is the news I get, WOW ! I am unfazed as I am going to the Scandinavian spa here this morning … Thankfully ….
I am surprised but as a buc fan I hope glennon does well.he does throw a nice ball.I hope the WR catch the ball and I hope he doesn’t face 3rd and long all the time
I hope I am wrong about the impending implosion and Schiano totally screwing up a football team. Things do not seem better now.

I’d have much, much preferred Josh playing at his 2010 level, with the Bucs 3-0 or 2-1 right now. But given the way he’s played in his last 9 or 10 games (plus preseason), I think this is the right move.
The Josh Freeman we have today is just not playing at the level of an NFL starting QB (even a bad one). Time to see what we have in Glennon.
And yes, I think this is basically a write-off-the-season move. Even Favre sucked his first year starting (anyone remember his first game, which happened to be at the Ole Sombrero? we brutalized him, and I think Vinny set a record for completion percentage)

Raphael is Freeman….hahahaha, perfect timing….and it really fits!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:17 am
JOE
You may thin this does not give the Bucs the best chance to win, but I do. Josh has clearly lost something and it has been leaving him for a year. He doesn’t even have the same pocket presence he did as a rookie.
I loved Josh, but he has to go.
Ride the rookie so you can see if they get a vet next year of if Glennon is the real deal
The vets on defense won’t like it, but oh well
September 25th, 2013 at 11:44 am
This is why I put no value in what Schiano says.
In the meantime, good luck Freeman. Youve got a lot of years ahead of you. And you can only grow and mature after this season. Find an Offensive HC and youll be alright. Take care Josh!
Glennon, I’ll back you up 100%.You dont have to carry this offense. Just be a good game manager and be consistent. And got out and get your 1st win on Sunday. Go Bucs!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:57 am
Who cares? More than half the starting QBs weren’t first round – some not even in the first 3 rounds. But Ryan Leaf was! So was Jamarcus Russell! But not Tom Brady. Nor Joe Flacco.
—————-
List of current 1st round starting QBs
1. Carson Palmer
2. Matt Ryan
3. Joe Flacco ( gotta do your research before spitting out unmitigated bullsh!t )
4. EJ Manuel
5. Cam Newton
6. Jay Cutler
7. Peyton Manning
8. Matthew Stafford
9. Aaron Rodgers
10. Andrew Luck
11. Blaine Gabbert ( he’s hurt, but he’s still the starter )
12. Alex Smith
13. Ryan Tannehill
14. Christian Ponder
15. Eli Manning
16. Michael Vick
17. Ben Roethlisberger
18. Phillip Rivers
19. Sam Bradford
20. Jake Locker
21. Robert Griffin, III
thats more than half, by my math.
and this excludes people like Drew Brees (who was taken w/ the 32nd pick in 2001 when there were only 31 teams) and Andy Dalton (35th pick)
if you’re going to spout something as fact, please back it up.
I wanted Freeman to succeed. There is no way you could be a fan of the team and want Freeman to fail (like some of you here hoped happened). But now that he ISN’T the QB, i’m going to root for the next man up. At the end of the day, i’m a BUCS fan, regardless of who is playing.
oh, and one more person to speculate on…..

With the 2nd pick of the 2014 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select… (Enter name)
——————————
I would take Clowney. True, it might make Dominick look like he’s failed on the D-line [again] but i’d rather see us grab someone with that type of talent and pick up a veteran QB in the offseason.
Cutler’s contract expires this year….
Pats might be looking to unload Mallett (since everyone loves the backup)
Go Bucs!!!

Phase 1 of The New Schiano Takeover is complete.
1) Take Out Freeman – check
2) Take out Sully, Promote McNulty –
3) Undermine and Take Out Dominik –
4) Assume the Role of HC & GM like Belicheat –
PJ Fleck (former assistant):
“He had a hand in every aspect of that program. He wasn’t just the football coach, he was everything. He was the marketing director. He was the fundraiser. He was the recruiting coordinator. Greg could do anything. He did do everything.”

Perhaps this will make Sully change the playbook as well. FFS I called for it Sunday night. I wanted to root for the kid. Now I get my chance. Hurray! Id rather the rookie, make rookie mistakes than the 5th yr vet make rookie mistakes. If Mike can just put the ball in numbers for the WR’s not 2-5 feet over their head like Josh the receivers might actually have a chance.
Hey Mikey, just beat ZONA and…Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin’: “Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right!”

So wait let me get this straight Joe. You’re questioning Shiano’s logic for starting Freeman and giving him one more chance. Yet in every single post involving Freeman and Mike Glennon you say Josh Freeman gives the Bucs the best chance to win. So you think he should let Freeman continue to flounder out there? We’re 0-3 with Freeman. He’s still making rookie mistakes.
What exactly are we losing in Freeman that we Glennon can’t do? I’d rather have a rookie make rookie mistakes than a 4th year guy still making them. Freeman’s had a season + to prove that he’s the guy to Schiano. There would have been no logical reason to bench Freeman from the get go. Glennon wasn’t a top pick coming out of college. Freeman is more experienced and SHOULD have give us the best chance to win. Unfortunately he’s garbage and doesn’t. So our head coach figured that out. This season isn’t going anywhere so why not see what we have in Glennon? Why should we continue to waste games on Freeman?
September 25th, 2013 at 12:19 pm
I’d be shocked if Glennon is the long term answer. His background does not suggest he is a future star. But Free is toast. Keeping him in there defines insanity. Common sense suggests the vets came to that realization and told Schiano they’d have his back if he made the change now.
The team should be an ugly 2-1. To salvage the season the team has to take this huge risk.
Regardless, Bucs will most likely be in a position to draft a top tier QB next year.

What a joke! Bucs fans, enjoy the last season of Shiano and Domenic. The Bucs are now in the Clowney sweepstakes.

@Glennon, no pressure and all, but you not only control your own destiny, but Schiano’s as well. just F’n win! Go Bucs!!!

I guarantee you that if Free keeps blowing it up there will be a QB change.
Bank on that Joe, we’ll wager on it
Schiano wont be the one with the say on it, the ownership will make that call.
Whose a better option you ask??? ANYBODY with the way he’s playing
The team will lose belief in him eventually and once that happens, it doesn’t matter what he says or does it’s hasta luego Free. It won’t be even to the slightest degree about Glennon being the answer at that point. That wont matter.”

YEEESSSSS!!!!! I am fu**ing elated at the decision.GOOD RIDDANCE to Freeman and all his Freemanite jock sniffers. And no, I don’t expect Glennon to be our savior but to say he sucks without giving him an adequate opportunity is ignorant.GREAT GREAT GREAT…DAY IN TAMPA BAY.ALL UP HILL FROM HERE BABY!!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 1:21 pm
We will now get to see how good of a player Freeman is now, will he be a help or a burdened to this team. Having been the man now he is the man’s back-up. Will he pout and sulk or support and help Glennon.
September 25th, 2013 at 6:32 pm
What’s worse than absolutely no offensive production?
Answer?
NOTHING, Glennon can only go up from where Freeman left off 😉
