Pounding Doug Martin To Nowhere
September 8th, 2013Joe really doesn’t get what Mike Sullivan was doing out there today.
Everybody and their brother knew what the Jets were going to bring defensively, and it was as if the Bucs weren’t ready for it.
Huh?
Doug Martin was pounded and pounded in the running game and did nothing, 24 carries for 65 yards. He caught two balls for negative yardage. Rockstar general manager spoke numerous times this preseason about the depth and talent in the Bucs’ running backs corps, yet Martin was the only guy to get a carry.
Was there nothing that Sullivan could dial up with two-back sets to create some uncertainty for the Jets’ defense? There were no carries for Brian Leonard and Peyton Hillis. Tight end Nate Byham started at fullback and it’s obvious he can’t run block well.
The Bucs didn’t set up much play-action, trickery was absent, and shots downfield were limited. The Bucs got nothing from the tight end position, and Kevin Ogletree (no catches) was a Michael Clayton clone again, minus the blocking.
Sullivan was outcoached today. It happens, but it really shouldn’t look like this after an entire offseason to prepare.
Yes, preseason games are just meaningless practice. But today the Bucs’ offense played the way it practiced.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:44 pm
I have no idea Joe. I was under some impression that Hillis or Leonard would have been some use this game since they are physically stronger. But just like last year, we’re going to run with Martin regardless of what else goes on in the game.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:45 pm
We need a PROVEN slot reciever, better coaching, Carl Nicks. Better QB I sense Schiano on the hot seat if this keeps up.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:45 pm
And a tight end
September 8th, 2013 at 4:46 pm
we need a TE
September 8th, 2013 at 4:46 pm
They kept running him inside …smh.
Oh btw ogletree sucks
September 8th, 2013 at 4:46 pm
Michael Robinson is out there….a probowl FB. Bring him in TONIGHT
September 8th, 2013 at 4:46 pm
Will the “rockstar” propaganda never end?
It’s straining credibility. Fifth year of the rebuild and we get this?
Please.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:49 pm
Our gameplan for their defense was wrong….and I guess we didn’t have a plan B.
Josh Freeman can’t throw short passes acurately…so we need to go with a lot more play action and we need a recieving TE in our system. Bring Tiquan back…get rid of a running back if you aren’t going to use anyone but Martin.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:49 pm
I have been a season ticket holder for ten years. I have never said this before. I am done. I am not driving 2.5 hours from fort Myers again. I have seats on the 35 yard line about 18 rows from the field. And I am done.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:51 pm
the water boy just lost us the game, what an idiot.
Like i said sacks are one stat means nothing unless you get constant pressure. How many times is greg schiano gonna let a rookie qb beat his defense. Jets shouldnt have been in the game in the first place, this one is on the coach more than the players.
We have one of the biggest coaching staffs in the NFL for what? schiano actually admitted they’ve been game planning for this game for a couple weeks, they should have been practicing.
This defense isnt together because as soon as revis left the field they attacked the weak link leonard. He’s looked back the entire offseason and this idiot puts teo neisham in the game at dtackle on a passing down, this damn dude cant even get pressure at the end spot.
This coach is the problem….so damn stubborn its like he’s saying this is the game plan MAKE it work and he refuses to change, a delay of game after a timeout nah this coach is the problem, his staff is the problem, they play callers on both sides of the ball were awful, i never thought i’d see the day when davin joseph and our veteran lineman would get pushed around like kids…disgusting and its schiano’s fault for not having them ready…freakin embarrassing
September 8th, 2013 at 4:51 pm
The coaches are lost.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:52 pm
Joe you need to be the new Coordinator. WTF was going on in his head? SO V Jax and Willams are making plays, an he keeps up the stupid screes and swing passes. Good lord going to be a long year…AGAIN!
September 8th, 2013 at 4:52 pm
That’s because Sullivan sucks. Send his ass k to NYG, Today! How bad has it gotten down there that we can’t beat the lowly Jets, damn!
September 8th, 2013 at 4:53 pm
Not only does Sully’s play calling suck but it’s obvious he doesn’t trust Freeman with all those screen and short yard passes on 3rd downs. I will give #54 a pass today because he is a good player and doesn’t make consistent mistakes but Free to me is the weakest link on this team. The D looked good but again when they are on the field as much as the were you can only expect so much
September 8th, 2013 at 4:54 pm
I’m sorry but this team isn’t ready for prime time.
Any other team would have thrashed the Bucs 35+ or more
“Rock Star” better start looking at the college players for the 2014 draft as the Bucs are going to get a top 5 pick – AGAIN.
So do you STILL think the pre-season doesn’t mean anything?
September 8th, 2013 at 4:54 pm
this coach sucks too… ogletree oh my god dude he needs to go bringing that dallas cowboys mentality to tampa, he’s doing the same thing he’s known for…dropping the ball, these idiots had no game plan so i guess we have to say that shaun king was right. No hillis, no carries for brian leonard and to think that they would keep throwing the ball to doug martin even though he dropped everything that came his way and fumbled. that just tells you the coach didnt have them prepared to play
September 8th, 2013 at 4:54 pm
On a side note…I really hate Jim Harbaugh
September 8th, 2013 at 4:55 pm
Fire the coaching staff and change QB’s 2nd game in and at least you will have an excuse for looking pitiful.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:55 pm
The plays sucked, the players sucked, and the playcaller Sullivan sucked. What a vanilla offense.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:59 pm
It’s soooo good to sit in the booth rather than playing on THIS Tampa Yuks team!
September 8th, 2013 at 4:59 pm
Don’t fret. At least we have hockey to look to.
September 8th, 2013 at 4:59 pm
Incredible game, a host of penalties kept jets drives alive, even with our poor offensive showing (except for Vjax, better pray nothing happens to him) this is a game we should have won but found a way to lose. If this is all the better we can play I shudder to think whats going to happen when NO comes to town next week.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:02 pm
Lmao and we have the Pats, niners, Seahawks, saints and AtL yeah I see a top pick this year.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:02 pm
U see those empty seats at RJS? it’s not the economy, prices, or food – it’s what you saw on the field vs the Jets
September 8th, 2013 at 5:03 pm
If this keeps up Ill be screaming Beg Dungy to come back
September 8th, 2013 at 5:04 pm
Maybe Free will continue to stink it up and we can replace him with Bridgewater… A real QB.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:04 pm
dominick needs to pack up his office, he’s had his chance and he’s done nothing but blow up the team and he did it well and take schiano with you and his posse pretending to be coaches. his scheme is stupid and the only reason we got those sacks is because of the revamped secondary we paid for not drafted. this coach is stubborn to leonard johnson isnt better than banks, it seems like every completed pass was against johnson and we saw it in the preseason, how can you turn a blind eye to the obvious…..
Here is all the proof you need that dominick needs to go. just like the year we went 10-6 he decided we were good, well we picked up ogletree and he had this great training camp and preseason so they are smart enough to get rid of the guy that started the slot last year. ogletree has bricks for hands. Schiano gets here and all of a sudden josh freeman stops running when the pressure comes
September 8th, 2013 at 5:04 pm
DESPITE all around poor play, Freeman led us down the field when it mattered most for a GW field goal…only to have the defense give up the lead.
That was the theme all of last year too.
Point fingers all you want, but in the end the defense needed a stop and didn’t deliver.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:05 pm
Terrible play calling. Terrible use of personnel. Terrible discipline, knowledge and, preperation on the first freaking drive of the game! Completely terrible.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:05 pm
OL play was very unimpressive!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:07 pm
calling in plays from the sideline like this is baseball….he is still stuck in the rutgers state of mind. Every team can simply throw the ball wherever revis is not and win a game against us. you would have thought there was a lockout because no one was ready for game 1. SCHIANO YOUR NO HEAD COACH, GO BACK TO RUTGERS. now i truly believe there were players saying that about him and his coaches last year
September 8th, 2013 at 5:08 pm
This is the worst loss I can ever remember. There’s probably been worse, but I sure can’t think of one. I’ve been a supporter of Schiano (and I still am), but this was the worst coaching performance across the board that I have ever seen (even Raheem Morris said it was awful). Play calling was atrocious. Boring, uncreative, predictable, and completely unprepared. We should have beaten this team by 30. Terrible, terrible, day
September 8th, 2013 at 5:10 pm
The Jets went 50 yards in 32 seconds with no timeouts to win.
We needed a stop by the defense and didn’t get one.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:11 pm
ok so i guess we were watching a different game because to me it seemed like freeman was doing well enough for us to win, there were more drops by receivers then incomplete passes…so what one was an interception, no need to act like matt ryan and drew brees and brady dont throw picks. no qb could make this offense better unless he was like peyton and called his own place, the coach is to hands on and he’s taking the power out of the players hands
September 8th, 2013 at 5:12 pm
Freeman sucks…..He’s in year 5 and he looks more lost with every passing year…..horrible……BFD he lead us down the field when it counted….that’s hi F-ing job..one that he does horribly…….that safety was on him…..plain and simple he sucks….don’t waste the money on him…..he’s playing himself right out of the contract year…..see your sorry ass in Oakland next year if youre lucky….maybe Jax will take you.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:13 pm
rotflmfao
September 8th, 2013 at 5:15 pm
CAeric your a retarded troll , look at the intelligent post before your stupid post …FYI
September 8th, 2013 at 5:15 pm
the bright side….? we’re in a commanding lead for the Clowney Sweepstakes!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:15 pm
yes greg schiano lets do exactly what we did last year even though it’s proven it doesnt work. all this hard work this team does just to stop the run is ridiculous why not find out if we can stop the run without all the stunts because the d line cant get into a rhythm….this staff is just pathetic, any other team that has the kind of roster would be a playoff team in THIS division. what the hell do these coaches see when they look at tape because they sure dont see what the stevie wonder and the rest of the world see
September 8th, 2013 at 5:16 pm
50 yards in 32 seconds ? Wtf ? Defense loses another game, just like last year
September 8th, 2013 at 5:16 pm
Page in the slot please. And we missed Lorig badly today.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:16 pm
Time to play the blame game!
Greg Schiano did not have these guys prepared and it showed. You an’t let a headset malfunction set you back the way that it did. There has to be hand signals or something planned out for such a scenario. Heck let Freeman call the plays for a series instead of showing how pitifully incompetent they were in regards to a “plan B’
Lets jump to the fourth quarter. Yes Lavonte David made a stupid ply at the end. But lets go back a series. Why did Schiano not go for the TD? Sure a FG goal gives you a 2 point lead but wow! You play to win not to not lose! Was he scared Freeman was going to be picked? Have some faith in your QB. If you lose make the opponent earn It! The last two series we practically handed them that one!
Now what about Dashon Goldsons “dirty” hit late in the second. He led with his helmet not his shoulder. So the receiver was “defenseless”? So Goldson is supposed to hit like a school boy and let the receiever hold on. That’s just sad.
Leonard Johnson, my fellow Largo high school alumni, That was a bad holding call. You can’t do that on third down in that situation.
In closing this is going to be a glass half empty kind of year. When the Bucs are 2-7 0r 3-6 or what ever well see Glennon. I was hoping It would not be that kin of year. I thought it would not be that kind of year. I was wrong.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:16 pm
Nola gonna roll weres that couch puswah. Get yer ky lil piggy .HAHA
September 8th, 2013 at 5:17 pm
all of u guys are so right we need an explosive offensive mined coach and new staff we need 2 good wide recievers and 2 ggood tight ends we should hv address this in the draft and free agency but we didn’t we broght sub par talent th old cheap way thts why we want win 2 games this year. We will have the first pick in the draft next year. I kn freeman struggles but how about sum more weapons and better olinemen. If I was Freeman I wld hope they want sign me. It be several teams needing qbs next year. Minn cincy Chicago Cleveland all these teams have better offenses thn we do
September 8th, 2013 at 5:19 pm
bucfanjeff , I noted that too. Could have been a comeback win for Freeman, ”played awful but won in the clutch” (which I saw people like Starr & Unitas do), but for another defensive collapse. How did Winslow get so open with 8 guys in coverage?
September 8th, 2013 at 5:19 pm
Freeman is not the answer.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:19 pm
Too bad Josh Freeman isnt a leader. This is like watching the sons of anarchy rule the day.
What a joke.
And Glennon isn’t the answer either. It isn’t easy facing NFL blitzes on a weekly basis.
After 5 seasons this is what Josh has amounted to… what a wasted project he has been.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:20 pm
its kinda stupid to say vjack had a good day but freeman sucks. did anyone else notice some expanded playbook? i swore they kept running the same 10 plays. I thought we needed peyton hillis to soften them up. It’s good that freeman is in the second year of this offense and he was much sharper this game but what sucks is the offensive coordinator is in the second year of this offense too…the coaching staff did all the partying in the offseason not freeman
September 8th, 2013 at 5:22 pm
maybe we should hope for a blackout next week, damn why did i decide to watch this team play football sober, knowing i would need a drink when it was over
September 8th, 2013 at 5:23 pm
Your team Sucks!!!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:23 pm
Freeman needs to stop getting a pass. He should have led this offense better today and put this game away.
Comlpeting less than half of your passes is no way to go.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
How tired are we in Tampa of watching a subpar team?!! Do you realize that we’re turning into the Browns, Jaguars and Raiders of the NFL?! Where watching a crap team is EXPECTED year in and year out?! There is no “maybe next year” for this team anymore; I’m sick of hearing that. The pieces are in place. Win now or just be a bunch of losers. That was a sloppy, disgusting, sickening, crushing, embarrassing, inexcusable and yes, quite disgraceful loss to a subpar team. Yes, it’s one game, but we have a couple doozies coming up: vs. NO and at NE–yeah we’ll see how that goes. DISGRACEFUL.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
Unbelievable! TB PR trying to convince us this was the team of the century and they come out and drop a dud.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
do it keep doin it trash yer Free yall sum terrible fans blame it all on Free Nola gonna stomp yall bad it want be Frees fault. All NOLA fans take Buc staduim. Yall sum week fans. All yall need a binky. hahahaha
September 8th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
HEY JT….GOOD CALL
COME TO THINK OF IT, A ROOKIE QB WITH SECONDS ON THE CLOCK….DOESNT THIS REMIND YOU OF THE EAGLES GAME LAST YEAR WHEN SCHIANO DECIDES TO RUN 3 TIMES THEN PUNT
September 8th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
Same ole same ole every season. Freeman will never lead us to a Super Bowl. He won’t even lead us to the playoffs.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
Freemanites,
It took Geno Smith only 1 start to ouplay Josh Freeman in his 57th.
Wake up Freemanites, he sucks.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:26 pm
I must say. The most frusterating thing was Schiano being content with a FG attempt. You gotta go for it in that situation.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:26 pm
We’re right back to the pre Dungy era level of embarrassment.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:26 pm
BucFansSuck,
Eat a bag of d!ck.
Freeman deserves the blame. He has dug himself this regressive tunnel since 2010.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:27 pm
Buc1987? Anyone, anyone?
Raphael, your boyfriend was awful today! All offseason you goobers told us how much the Bucs gave up in points. Today, it was 18 (really only 16). JFro needs to win. BOO!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:28 pm
This was a failure by the coaching staff as well as players. The offence was not ready. The play calling by Sullivan in the second half was horrendous. Rush 4 at the end of the game to get some pressure and contain Smith. Will be a long year if players keep making stupid mistakes and coaches don’t do a much better job calling the game.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:28 pm
Freeman is just not getting it done.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:29 pm
Well BucfansSUCK is just filled with intelligent insight.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:29 pm
JFro Jock Sniffing Mob is in mourning today. The “haters” appear to be right – JFro and Dom suck!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:29 pm
FREEMAN HAS BEEN TAKING ALL THE ABUSE THAT THE COACHING STAFF SHOULD HAVE TAKEN, MAYBE THIS WILL SHIFT THE FOCUS TO SCHIANO BUT THEY TYPE OF MEDIA WE HAVE, THEY LOVE TO ASK OBVIOUS QUESTIONS FOR SOME REASON THEY ARE SCARED TO ASK THE TOUGH QUESTIONS LIKE WHY WASNT THIS TEAM PREPARED, WHY DIDNT YOU LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES LAST YEAR. HOW COULD YOU REPLACE THE D COORDINATOR IN THE LAST GAME AND THINK THAT HE COULD COME BACK AND DO ANY BETTER. THERE WAS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS WITH REVIS, GOLDSON ON THE FIELD…PATHETIC COACHING….YOUR QUARTERBACK CAN EASILY HAVE A GOOD GAME AND LOSE
September 8th, 2013 at 5:29 pm
It’s funny. If not for a stupid penalty and we won how different you would sound. Yes I saw the foolish mistakes made at the beginning. I also saw how the offense improved, and saw JF making some good throws. You forget that the Jets defense (especially the line) is the strength of their team. I saw our team go in a hostile place and do what they needed to do to win.
Also, I’m a lot more confident with our defense. They are showing everyone they are gonna hit ya. I can’t take anything away from Goldson for those hits( consider the message sent).
This game was a fluke. I’m not about to jump ship like so many of you. I’m looking forward to next week, and think we are going beat NO. Breeze will have a lot to deal with.
GO BUCS!!!!!!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:29 pm
We are are the laughing stock of the league.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:30 pm
its kinda stupid to say vjack had a good day but freeman sucks
——————————
V-jax had 154 of Freemans 210 yards…. Nothing stupid about that.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:33 pm
I remember when Rah said if the bucs had the first pick they would have still picked Freeman. HAHAHAHA. would have made a bad decision an even worse decision. Freeman sucks.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:34 pm
It’s becoming obvious Schiano is in over his head.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:35 pm
I get that Schiano is a detail oriented guy, so who’se the BIG PICTURE guy?? Where’s he at??
Dont get me wrong, Freeman was back to his six-flag ways. Our offensive line was pathetic. Our offensive gameplan was non existant. Our preparation?? This looked like preseason Game 5.
Where were the rollouts?? What happened to Freemans running ability that used to buy time and produce positive yards?? Is he afraid to run??
WHAT THE FU(K SULLY?? PLAY-FU(KIN ACTION!!
BOSTAD? GET YOUR UNIT IN LINE!!
SCHIANO?? LIGHT A FIRE UNDER THIS TEAMS A$$ BEFORE THEY TAKE THE FIELD NEXT TIME!
JESUS CHRIST MOHAMMED!!!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:36 pm
Freeman sucks Raphael go jump.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:39 pm
And no Glennon could not have done better. Not with the atrocious play calling by Sullivan. Not with the lack of preparation by Schiano.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:40 pm
@bucsdeluge – “It’s funny. If not for a stupid penalty and we won how different you would sound.”
shoulda, woulda coulda. we hand wrapped this game and gave it to them.
Our offensive line took it up the a$$. I just cant believe that VJ played the way he did with that god-awful team around him……I picked a wrong time to quit drinking..
September 8th, 2013 at 5:40 pm
That was the most inane game plan I have seen in a long time. Some runs or short passes to Hillis to break up the monotony of Martin running for 2 yards every play would have helped.
Bad coaching….
September 8th, 2013 at 5:45 pm
Even had the Bucs found a way to win that debacle, I would not have felt good about the next 15 games. JFRO was bad. O-line is SOOOOOOOOOOO overrated. Our best player is the punter – nuf said!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:47 pm
Freeman was average. The coaching and play calling were horrible. Just like last year, is there any amount of time that is to short for the other team to drive the length of the field and beat us?
September 8th, 2013 at 5:49 pm
This is ABOVE the whole Freemanites vs. the Mike Glennon Mobsters.
Our offense was foul from the inside outwards, which spread to Free, Martin and the WRs/TEs (except for VJ). We need to put Crabtree in the game, and Josh needs to get back to RUNNING more!
BOSTAD fu(ked us!
SULLY fu(ked us!! and was still using his pre-season playbook.
and SCHIANO FU(KED US!! couldn’t adjust and that little bitchboy Geno looked better than Free.
GET YOUR SH!T TOGETHER COACHES!!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:49 pm
GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!! So pissed after today.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:49 pm
Sure glad we saved all those starter reps during preseason! Great job today boys! You might have just freed up my Sunday afternoons this fall.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:51 pm
hey couch fan
its kinda stupid to say vjack had a good day but freeman sucks
——————————
V-jax had 154 of Freemans 210 yards…. Nothing stupid about that.
count the drops my friend. you got this garbage tight end i cant even remember his names he’s so sorry he is so slow to block that the defense man is already past time by the time he turns….crucial 3rd down drops too, vjack has a solo job to run and get up, freeman’s gotta depend on everyone else on the field doing their job to be successful…everyone on the field and on the sidelines. if donald penn whiffs on a block you put the entire play at risk now everything is rushed. Vjack is great but im tired of him getting caught from behind by well everybody, he should have scored but a fat linebacker caught him
September 8th, 2013 at 5:53 pm
All of you retards who can only bash Freeman, what areas of the team played so well today? My answer …. None. Not one single area stood out and that my friends is due to incompetent coaching. Jackson, Revis,Goldston looked good. That’s about it.
September 8th, 2013 at 5:56 pm
Can’t blame Schiano for being stuck with a quarterback he didn’t even draft!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:57 pm
And no matter how debilitating a loss this team suffers (which happens all the time these days) I still end up watching the next week. Why do I torment myself? When the hell can I follow a winning team?! Screw rebuilding, win NOW!!
September 8th, 2013 at 5:57 pm
on a more positive note…im liking this physical defense, the penalties on goldson were well worth it just to put receivers on notice that you cant keep coming across the middle this year…if you want to complete a pass find whoever leonard johnson is defending because he’ll give you a completion 90% of the time, a pass interference the other 10%
September 8th, 2013 at 6:01 pm
hey patrick
i dont know if you know this or watched the bucs play today but im gonna help you out ok…..WERE TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL. Your actually saying that when the ENTIRE team plays bad its the quarterbacks fault and not the head coach? what the hell country are you from using an american name
September 8th, 2013 at 6:27 pm
Everything will be fine now. They are into the second season of the same system. WHAT?????? This is what fine is to them? Scary. This was how our Oline was describe It should be. Who is missing? Nicks? Hell it looked better without DJ , Nicks and putting Larsen at center. I am not big on Freeman but this had to be one of the worst cluster , (well you know) I have seen in a long time.
September 8th, 2013 at 6:47 pm
They didn’t have much choice other than to run Martin into a wall over and over. What else were they gonna do? Drop back and attempt to throw while that wall bears down on the QB? Throw to either one of only two viable passing options we have against 4 or more DBs?
September 8th, 2013 at 9:03 pm
Im not gon put this game on Freeman. Everyone wants to do tht I don’t think no qbcan win in this sorryoffense no blocking no rushing yards no pass rush no number 3 or 4 wrs no tight ends so u guys need to look at or offense and look at the rest of the league we suck. nd its not just because Freeman> Matt Ryan oline llks bad thts why atl lost today
