“Josh Is A Leader”

A lot of Bucs fans seemed to try to connect dots that did not exist between the Bucs players not voting franchise quarterback Josh Freeman as a captain and Freeman’s status both with his team and his teammates.

No need to go there, Bucs commander Greg Schiano said yesterday in his daily press conference. There are no dots to connect. Freeman is the team’s leader, he said.

“I know one thing: Josh is going to lead,’ Schiano said. “Josh is a leader, so I’m not concerned about that. If you look the last two years, Davin didn’t play last year, so, when we voted, Davin was out for the year. The year before, Vincent wasn’t on the team. Those two guys are strong leaders and it just so happens that Josh is on a team with other strong leaders. But I wouldn’t read to that that Josh isn’t a leader. I’ll tell you, to a man, I think every offensive player will say ‘we follow No. 5.’ So I think it’s a good thing. I guess it all depends how you look at it, but I’m fine with it.”

Joe thinks captains, at least in the NFL, are terribly overblown. You are dealing with men here, not high school kids or college guys.

Joe thinks Schiano is dead-on. Freeman is the leader of the offense. That simple. He’s the guy that has the ball in his hands each and every snap. He controls the offense and huddle, hence he is a leader.

The closer we get to game day the more I think Freeman is gonna light the Jets up. Way too much negativity from the public about his play and how the “Bucs took away his C.” I read that somewhere this morning.
Who took it away? Give me a break. God, this game can’t come fast enough. I can’t take much more of this drama talk.
People are talking Jets upset because Freeman is not the captain. Game will be in hand for us by halftime.

  2. RBellBuc Says:

Exactly, the QB, by his position alone, should automatically be considered a leader. He doesn’t need a stinkin’ C on his uniform for his team to acknowledge that fact. They know it, and they will tell you, if you asked them.

  3. Walter Says:

    @Justin

Yeah, I just want the talk to be over and the action to begin. I have the feeling we are all going to be pleased with what we see tomorrow.

  4. stevek Says:

This is a must win game for a team looking to make the 2013 playoffs.

Losing to the Jets is not the way to get things started.

    Bo Gucs!

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

According to Joe….QBs are leaders…..”Sanchez led his team to” “Shaun King led the Bucs”

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

Sure, Freeman is a leader who has a bad game now or then….so do all the other Captains….so what?

I am starting to get the feeling we will romp tomorrow!!!

I saw the press conference yesterday.

Eyes darting around, furtive looks and downcast eyes. He looked like he was being questioned for stealing some one’s car.

    I wouldn’t put a C on his jersey.

When they threw some raw meat in front of him, by quoting a Jet DE, he wouldn’t bite. I thought he might apologize for being a NFL QB.

WTF is going on, Oregon took 1:51 to score. Chip Kelly will be missed.

  7. BIlly Bob Says:

WOW talk about an article that lacks context. Some people might say that Obama is a leader because he is president. However we all know how Obama is. Leader LOL

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

Gators’ Driskel = Josh Freeman Jr.

  9. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

Hey BIlly Bob, JBF is ALL THINGS BUCS !!!!!!! If you want to talk politics try another site ! REAL BUCBALL TOMORROW !…, HELL YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!

  10. PRBucFan Says:

    For now…

  11. crazy Says:

If good Josh can keep bad Josh off the field he’ll be a captain by the end of the month.

  12. gracelivin Says:

This Captian thing is blown way out of proportion, the role of the “Captian” is he is one who can talk with the Refs when determining whether to accept or decline a penalty, goes out for the coin flip, and may approach the Refs for clarification on any calls made… it does not determine who “leads” the team, although voted by players, only two are chosen from each side of the ball, should we now be worried that neither “playcaller” was voted captian, (LD-Lavonte David) so he doesn’t now lead the defense…. People stop looking for reason to ridicule someone, to easy for most on here to make mountians out of anthills.

  13. GRIF4FREESUX Says:

Yeah, freeman is our leader. The QB should be the leader of any team and thats exactly why we are doomed!!!!

  14. clafollett Says:

    @gracelivin

Good points. When one looks at neither JF or LD getting named captain, one could look at it as freeing them both up to manage the game and get the play calls in while the captains are dealing with the tedious work.

By virtue of calling plays, they are leaders.

    GO BUCS!

Dude, he was bored. And thoughtful. He’s been hearing the same questions over and over.

Would Tony Dungy get mad? GMC? Yet where is your hate for them?

Josh Freeman is a good, soon to be great quarterback. Everyone says he’s had 5 years? He hasn’t. He did not start till game 8 in his rookie year. He has not even played one game in his 5th year.

So when you think about it he only has 3 1/2 years in. AND he is 24.

At the very least, how about you let him actually play out this year before you make up your mind.

  16. Just A Juggalo Says:

Good point. I absolutely despised Tony Dungy and I should mention that every time that I make a comment.

GMC as well, but I refer to that loser as Dini. I know he will never record his 50th career sack or 500th career tackle.

I don’t hate Freeman, I’m just making an observation. I think Good Gosh is fabulous. Bad Gosh, not so much.

  17. Mike10 Says:

No he’s not – I dislike Josh, but the only reason our offense isn’t putting up 30+ points a game (as it should w our weapons) is Josh. Can’t manage, can’t come out fast, can’t throw from the pocket, can’t get rid of the ball early, can’t read defenses, can’t lead
