“Happy To Be A Buccaneer”
September 17th, 2013Joe’s starting to get angry with his brethren in the fourth estate for being so sloppy if not reckless. There have been so many prominent members of both print/internet and broadcast mediums that have gone on various forms of media recently dropping all sorts of inaccurate information about Bucs players and coaches.
First, it was the nonsense peddled last winter that the combine was rife with stories about how Bucs commander Greg Schiano and franchise quarterback Josh Freeman loathed each other like cats and dogs.
Mind you, Joe was at the combine, too, spoke with many people, coaches, reporters, etc., and never once heard such a story. The main peddler of this information claimed he had several “sources” feeding him this information. Yet, ironically, said writer has yet, to date, been able to get one of these sources on the record.
Joe would have been thrown out of journalism school for that.
Now we have another unnamed source claiming — after two whole games — that Bucs cornerback Darrelle Revis wants out because he doesn’t like Schiano, allegedly.
Naturally, said source is not identified. Notice all of these reports are coming from people who may visit One Buc Palace twice a year, but the guys (and ladies) who are at One Buc Palace almost on a daily basis don’t have this information? Can you say “plant?” Hhhmmm?
Joe has interviewed Revis a few times, BS’ed with him a couple of times talking about his Alma mater, Pitt, and college football in general, and never had any inkling Revis was remotely unhappy… about anything, short of not being able to rehab quicker.
Well, Revis got word of this rumor that he is upset with Schiano and took to Twitter with a personal message to Bucs fans: He’s a Buccaneer Man and loves the area.
@Revis24: What’s going on Buc fans. Just to clear the smoke. I’m happy to be a Buccaneer & I’m happy to be a resident of Tampa. … I’m excited for this year & I’m excited about this team as we move forward to prepare each week to get a W!!!
Is that good enough for you?
Joe is going to let his readers onto something: There is a cabal out there that either wants Schiano gone or wants Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik gone, or both. The more chaos that is created, some of the cabal members reason, the quicker that Schiano is gone and that in turn may also lead to Dominik being ousted. In other words, if that’s what it takes, if the team (and fans) must suffer to attain this goal(s), so be it.
Joe won’t name the Bucs beat writer he spoke to this afternoon, because Joe is sure that said reporter wasn’t expecting his conversation to be made public, but this reporter told Joe he’s of the belief that, with so many sharks circling the Bucs after starting the season 0-2, that division foes see this and are planting wild stories in an effort to see the Bucs blown up, thereby Tampa Bay not being a factor in the NFC South race for a couple of years (think the upheaval of 2009).
Go ahead and chew on that for a while next time a reporter from outside the Tampa Bay area has a claim that sheds a bad light on the Bucs without sourcing his information.
September 17th, 2013 at 7:49 pm
See Joe, from his post this is what I read
“Hey Tampa, I love you, I love this team, I love the players, im not sure about coach”
Revis never came out and said that him being angry with Schiano was false. He pretty much (IMHO) said I want to be in Tampa, just not with Schiano.
September 17th, 2013 at 7:55 pm
Hey Chuck. Grow the F up. People like you are the reason this area is a constant BS soap opera.
September 17th, 2013 at 7:56 pm
heard from a unnamed source that Revis and coach meant for 15 mins. today. ALL IS GOOD !!!!!!!
September 17th, 2013 at 7:56 pm
Revis’s “denial” avoids mentioning the coach at all. If he wants to defuse the rumor that he hates the coach, then he should say that he supports the coach.
Which he didn’t.
September 17th, 2013 at 7:57 pm
Wow Joe…I now love you again. I didn’t think you had it in you to post this.
September 17th, 2013 at 7:57 pm
Sharks are in the water…..
This is horrible.
September 17th, 2013 at 7:58 pm
if chiano wants revis playing zone, then he better fall in line!
this is schiano’s team! hes the freakin boss!
September 17th, 2013 at 7:58 pm
So it was Josh last week now Revis. Who will it be next week?
September 17th, 2013 at 7:58 pm
There is no way in hell a defense plays that hard like the Bucs played on Sunday if they hated their coach.
Sorry TBBF I had to steal your line.
September 17th, 2013 at 7:58 pm
@charles u like to stir the sh!t huh….. Talking heads need content to get paid even if they have to make sh!t up…..
September 17th, 2013 at 7:58 pm
You’re damn right he is happy…he had 96,000,000 reasons to be happy….and…as a bonus no State income tax.
We gave him another chance….where were the other teams.
On the “controversy” front….that is how any media makes their money….controversy attracts viewers, listeners & readers…how many people would pay attention if there was nothing but a “love fest”. In this age of 24/7 Cable & the internet with unlimited time & space to fill…controversy fills it best.
Joe loves controversy….just look at the responses to Josh Freeman, Dominick, Schiano &…..for Gods sake our favorite…Shaun King!!
“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”
September 17th, 2013 at 8:01 pm
Great post!
Anybody twisting this is an idiot. Go back to watching your drama shows… There’s not one in Tampa. If you twist this you’re now calling Revis a liar… “Just to clear the smoke” means the reports of him being unhappy with schiano!
September 17th, 2013 at 8:05 pm
THank you Joe. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
September 17th, 2013 at 8:06 pm
Hey I am a huge Bucs supporter. I hate that we are a marked team with PF, I hate that Freeman continues to struggle, and I hate we have lost 2 games by just 1 minute and 3 points.
Im just saying, Freeman and Schiano came out and said there was no tension between them, Revis did not. He just said he is happy to be in Tampa and on this team.
Lots of players have hated a coach and still loved the place they play….. Ask anyone who signs an extension with the Raiders or Browns.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:08 pm
Lets SEE HERE
1. Friction with Franchise QB
2. Marquee Player Side Steps Support
Once More – The Buccaneers Teeter on GREG SCHIANO
So quash the “Wow” the Defense is Great because Greg isn’t the Defensive Coordinator.
The Glazers need to “Relieve Gregory” and give Sullivan his Head Coach Opportunity POST HASTE
September 17th, 2013 at 8:11 pm
Charles go watch TMZ.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:12 pm
Revis is the only player on defense we don’t have to be concerned about agreeing with, liking, respecting the coach and I actually think if he doesn’t now…he will. That’s because Revis is an “island”…..but the other players are a different story….GMC, LVD, AC, Foster, Banks etc……they need to be inspired and I’m not an expert but what I saw Sunday was an entire Defense that was truly inspired.
Its time we had an inspired Offense & needs to start with the QB.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:13 pm
Rahb…is that the same Sullivan that runs the Bucs anemic offense? No thanks.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:15 pm
@Joe, great post. Love your take on this topic.
There is too much “reading between the lines”. Can’t we just take Revis tweet at face value? I am.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:15 pm
People in here need to start to question people like Rahb and their motives…especially with what Joe just said in this article.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:16 pm
It’s either that or some people are just dumb as a box of rocks….
September 17th, 2013 at 8:18 pm
@Joe if you want hits. Leave this puppy up at the top of the site all night long.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:18 pm
@ Rahb
So…let me get this straight….you want to promote Sullivan….because Schiano has screwed up the Offense that he is supposed to “Coordinate”….I just don’t think it works that way….A greater case could be made to fire Sullivan for his impotent Offense.
How do you think Sheridan feels….not getting any credit for the great Defense?
The bottom line is Schiano is here to stay….period!!!
September 17th, 2013 at 8:23 pm
Here are some more lines from the bright one that is Rahb…
Rahb Says:
September 12th, 2013 at 9:50 pm
Smh
Lemme guess, there are NO serviceable CBs available! So who will be doing the cartwheels this time as Saints receivers assault the Bucs “End Zone”?
Eric “Thirsty” Wright isn’t around this time to be nicely TOASTED
September 17th, 2013 at 8:24 pm
Revis has no guaranteed money…..and there aren’t many teams that will pay him $16mil….even if he returns to form.
I seriously doubt he will become an attitude problem…because if he does and has the slightest slip-up he will be history at the end of each year.
Have you heard the latest?….Schiano brought in the MRSA to distract attention from the problems…..just kidding, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some conspiricy like that is floated.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:25 pm
No, actually the whole coaching staff needs to be blown up and start fresh with a proven NFL head coach and proven NFL GM such as Bill Polian. I have no confidence in Freeman, I have no confidence in the “goodfella” nor do I have any confidence in any of his coaches, and I definitely don’t have any confidence in Dominik. I’ve become COMPLETELY apathetic with this franchise and it’s ownership/front office. Thank you Glazers, thank you Dominik, thank you Schiano. But most of all thank you Glazers, for NOT getting it right since the days of Dungy/Gruden.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:27 pm
I’ve been trying to tell this to people in here for the last 2 weeks. There is no smoke and there is no fire. Some people are just hellbent on believing everything the media tells them.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:28 pm
No to Sullivan, the defense is fixed and yet the offense has yet to do anything.
Remember if Payton would have just kicked again instead of going for it on 4th and goal the defense wouldn’t have been in the position to lose the game.
You guys are probably the same people who hate Joe Maddon for all of his lineup changes even though he constantly shows he is one of the games best mangers. Probably the same group who hated on Jim Hickey even though he is one of the best pitching coaches in baseball.
Schiano is now in year 2 going on game 19 (27 if you count preseason) He keeps bringing in Rutgers players who are not doing anything for this team. I hear all offseason about the leader Freeman is, but yet I do not see it. He wasted a timeout when he should know the offense and be able to call a play. Hell RGlll did it against us last year….. oh wait he was a rookie.
This is the pros and Schiano is now 7-11 and instead of getting Freeman reps in preseason they gave them to Glennon (kind of a sign to me)
In Schiano’s first 10 games he was 6-4, his last 8 (not counting preseason) he is 1-7. I am still rooting for Schiano to turn this around and for Freeman to show he is the franchise, but what happens if Schiano finishes 3-13 with a group that has the talent EVERYWHERE to be in the playoffs.
@Buc1987 where do you think I get all of my buc news?
September 17th, 2013 at 8:31 pm
” but I wouldn’t be surprised if some conspiricy like that is floated.”
It’s not even the just the media fans have been doing in here for 2 weeks now coming up with conspiracy theories. Like tony2cents said a week a go in here that Schiano purposely tampered with Josh’s communication device in the Jets game. Just to make Freeman look bad.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:31 pm
The start of this season has really been a circus. The only thing that will quiet the sharks are wins. I think all of the news surrounding this team has been blow out of proportion. It’s making me miss the days when you couldn’t find a story about the Bucs on BSPNs front page to save your life.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:33 pm
if someone wants schiano and domink out, get rid of dominik! shiano can handle gm and hc.
this is shianos ship. fall in line, or get out of tampa. i dont care if youre derlle revis or mark dominik! shiano’s the boss! he’s a winner!
freeboy sux! fire sulli! go buccs!@
September 17th, 2013 at 8:34 pm
“@Buc1987 where do you think I get all of my buc news?”
Charles…I really could care less probably from here, where Joe has been posting negative article after negative article about the team, because that’s all that’s out there.
For the record I’m a Red Sox fan that thinks Maddon is the best coach in MLB.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:37 pm
“but what happens if Schiano finishes 3-13 with a group that has the talent EVERYWHERE to be in the playoffs.”
Your trying to over-speculate..just go through the motions like everyone else. Just be a fan. Who’s to say the Bucs don’t finish 8-8 or 2-14? Nobody really knows right now.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:37 pm
schiano has to babysit sulli and call his plays for him. AND he has to babysit freeman and make sure he doesnt suck like he does.
fire sulli! fire freeboy! schiano and glenon can take it from here!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 17th, 2013 at 8:40 pm
I can tell you all one thing NE is going to have their hands full with this Bucs D this Sunday. They better be on their knees and praying Gronk comes back.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:43 pm
My wife just asked ma why I spend so much time on JBF?
I told her because I’m a huge TBBF…she said that I’m foolish to spend so much time with it.
I asked her what about all these fans that are so negative about everything?….are they foolish too?
She said “No, they are either ignorant or insane”
So guys…you choose….Foolish/Ignorant/Insane
I’d rather be a hopeful, positive fool!
September 17th, 2013 at 8:43 pm
so when the defense plays well, Schiano gets all the credit? Not Sheridan?
and our passive offensive play calling is on Sullivan, even when Schiano admitted that it was his decision to play it safe??
something doesnt add up.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:47 pm
YES! the defense was good because of schiano! but schiano called the right play on offensive at the end, we just couldnt gain 6 yeards on the ground! thats on Martin!
and sulli might as well leave tampa with freeboy, because schiano can do his job for him!
September 17th, 2013 at 8:47 pm
Once again, the most PATHETIC SPORTS MEDIA IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE RISIDES RIGHT HERE…Sure the nationals throw out their garbage but the locals take it and RUNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!! FKING PATHETIC STROUD, CUMMINGS< IRA AND ALL OF "EM…That's how they "work"…"pay the bills", is to be a TABLOID SPORTS MEDIA…SO SICK OF THESE GUYS!
September 17th, 2013 at 8:50 pm
I really hope this is true and all is well. For the record, I never believed the rumor that Revis was unhappy. Even if he was, I really don’t think he would come out and say it two games in, when the defense actually played well (and he is not even 100% yet). I don’t think all is well between Schiano and Freeman, but perhaps the situation was overblown a bit. I sure hope so, because we need both to have any shot this year.
September 17th, 2013 at 8:51 pm
this team could be 2-0 and the local hacks would be miserable, but we’re 0-2 and they’re like a PUNK in a Peter tree, just giddy as hell, cant wait for the next F$#$^K
September 17th, 2013 at 8:51 pm
Why do you act like a slinky toy and periodically go back to calling him “franchise QB.”
It’s obvious he’s gone.

Tampabaybucfan…
It drives my wife crazy. I tell her a lot of things that the negative fans say. She just looks at me and says. Why do you bother with those ignorant people? I’m serious there is no bias in the way I tell her too. I just tell her straight up what they say to see what she thinks. She will either say those people are not fans or that’s a fair weather fan honey. Or those people are idiots. Or just shakes her head and says I don’t want to hear it anymore. I have been a fan prior to the Dungy years, but she is a huge Bucs fan as well.

We need to start a coalition…..You, Me, Andrew, Bobby & a few others that remain positive….we need to pound this site with hope…..”KEEP HOPE ALIVE”
Sure, we have to be realistic…there are problems…but this is sort of “for better or worse” isn’t it?
May be able to join later…..
September 17th, 2013 at 9:06 pm
All the “players are unhappy” stuff is all nonsense to me. I’d be willing to bet every team has some unhappy players. They pulled that crap on Gruden too.
Ever held a job where everyone just loved the supervisor? That would be contrary to human nature.
I form opinions by what I see on Sundays. No need to look elsewhere.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:06 pm
Tonytwocents….87 is full of crap , pay no attention….when the offense starts really clicking he will change his tune again …and when we go on a winning streak , all the punk trolls here will find something else to be negative about .
September 17th, 2013 at 9:11 pm
tonytwocents…I just need the terms of what you said. I’m still looking though. I’m not one to just make something up about something someone says. I’m not the media. If I did not read it why would I want to start trouble? Your my favorite poster on JBF. It’s going to be a bitch to find it, combing through the whole site, but I will.
Oh and Raphael if Freeman does catch fire of course I will be happy.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:12 pm
tonytwocents…I told my wife about it when you said it. So it is here. She remembers me telling her. It’s here. I’ll find it.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:14 pm
no you wont. and like you, your wife is also a lying cunnt.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:17 pm
1. Dominink has assembled a team talented enough to win now and into the forseeable future. He is highly respected among his peers.
2. The loss of nicks and in week one Lorig seriously impacted the offensive game plan.
3. The fans may have soured on Shiano but there is no evidence that the team has quit. On the contrary, the defensive game plan and effort against the Saints was as good as we’ve seen around here since 2005.
4. Shiano has a 5 year contract. If he were to be fired this year, we would be back in the post-Gruden aura of not being able to afford a top coach. No way the Glazers are going to pay two coaches for three years.
5. There is no evidence that Shiano can ‘t coach. In fact, except for the game against the Saints last year in New Orleans, the team has been well prepared each week and competitive.
6. At least one of the 0-2 teams will make the playoffs.
7. The theory that other teams are plantingstories is plausible. This is a highly competitive league.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:20 pm
People inside the NFL. Other GM’s,coach’s,player’s have a “hate on” for Schiano. Ever since the whole victory formation thing. I believe the victory formation is a test. To see which player’s would defy the coach. Filter out the quitter’s. I like Schiano, if not for suspect QB play, we would be winning. That Westling article on NFL.com. Is a joke, the guy goes to extra lenth’s to slander Schiano and the buc’s. Dom and Schiano have been known to “keep to themselfs” at combine. So you have a bunch of guy’s talking $hit about the buc’s brass. Hopefully all this BS fuel’s the team. The us against the world mentality
September 17th, 2013 at 9:21 pm
Aww TonyNoBrains has now resorted to calling wives. How childish and pathetic . I to remember you saying that. It’s ok to deny it so you dont look so stupid. Go head and call me names now little boy.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:24 pm
Did you see PFT’s headline on this same topic? Not “Happy to Be a Buccaneer”.. he talks of backpedaling… unfreakin’ believable! If it’s not negative, apparently it doesn’t get eyeballs… From PFT less than an hour ago:
“The backpedaling from Bucs cornerback Darrelle Revis is taking place both publicly and behind closed doors.
Revis took to Twitter to refute, sort of, the report that he’s frustrated with coach Greg Schiano — even if the message from Revis didn’t specifically mention Schiano or address the notion that Revis doesn’t like Schiano’s disciplinarian ways.”

September 17th, 2013 at 9:33 pm
I do find it hard to believe that any NFC South teams are quivering in fear of Mark Dominik to the point they have to conspire against the Bucs.
More likely they want Dom right where he is. The Bucs haven’t been a factor since he took over and are off to a stumbling start this year. 1-7 in last eight.
Why bother to conspire?
Maybe against Atlanta or something, but not Mark Dominik of all people.
Oh, and we’re not talented. Talented teams win.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:35 pm
Couch, I’m 6’1 210. Far from a little boy. And if you want to defend your storyteller, and call me out too, just show me the proof……..

Hold to your opinion all you want and that’s fine but the C was, in my opinion, out of line.

TJ maybe on to something. Go back to his “Bucs are in disarray” comment last week. Dude’s clearly got an agenda.

Two Cents over the line?
BIG BUCS FAN since 1976! Hope is all we have truth be told. Once again we are again 0-2 not the first time we have been here… I like our team I think we have good depth, not name brand Players but who’s backup player are? I want the best for OUR team I expect OUR players to be Buccaneer Men! WE have good players on both sides of the ball. Not all are yet running on all Cylinders. 0-2 be damned Lets get behind the 2013 Buccaneer MEN! or keel haul yourself…
September 17th, 2013 at 9:40 pm

you know what, I apologize to Mrs ’87. she “remembered 87 telling her” that story. that he made up.
Mrs ’87, I am truly sorry. You are absolutely not a cunnt. But your lying husband is.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:40 pm
I said this during the, sorry, infamous La Canfora story—La Canfora GUESSED that Josh would want a trade, & all of a sudden headlines becomes “JOSH WANTS A TRADE”. Later, he cites unnamed GMs around the league saying what they THINK is happening @ One Buc…sure, planting that information will in no way serve you, anonymous sources on other teams. This is why I lost the last vestige of respect for La Canfora…he was used, plain & simple. Made more of a name for himself, I guess, but there’s a price for that, if people really examine what’s exactly happening.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:42 pm
Hey Guys…no need to get personal….after all we are all Buc fans…..aren’t we?…..well maybe not.
Schiano is here to stay….it is a really, really stupid argument to even infer “whoever our coach is next year” that he is in trouble with Dom or the Glazers.
I think you can judge a person by the company he keeps…and Schiano didn’t choose to keep company with Winslow, Wright, Talib, Blount or Briscoe. So, I give him the benefit of the doubt.
September 17th, 2013 at 9:42 pm
“Now go squat under Josh nut sack.”
that all ya got? Good night couch. GO BUCS!

Damn it man…and people ask me why I save stuff that people post. This is the exact reason why. People tend to forget what they have said in the past, that’s why. Still looking…..

’87 – I’ll throw you a bone.
I mentioned how Freemans headset was cutting in and out like a bad cell phone, and all he heard from the playcall was “you got that?”.
So when Freeman came to the sideline and explained that his headset was cutting in and out, I questioned our coaching staff as to why they sent him out there with the SAME faulty headset, which continued to malfunction, when all they had to do was give him a different helmet.
The way you took that and skewed it to make it look like I said Schiano deliberately messed with his headset……..well you were probably sh!tfaced as usual.

’87 – keep looking. and I say this sincerely, apologies to your wife. good night.
September 17th, 2013 at 10:19 pm
wow Joe, Ill admit I have been down on your site because lately its been like going to a bucs funeral, but I respect you A LOT more now that you have set the record straight publicly about how some of your media brethren have been intentionally conspiring against our team. to those A-holes in the media, you’ll get yours, karma’s a bich. it may not affect you today, but one day its going to bite you right in the a$s. to the rest of the bucs fans, now that you see what the media is really up to, dont let them win by turning against our team. thats exactly what they want.
September 17th, 2013 at 10:21 pm
tonytwocents…Yes it was along those lines, to begin with but then it went to sabotage of Freeman on purpose. I’ll find it.
September 17th, 2013 at 10:23 pm
Tonytwocents..
Again, just my opinion but gracious of you to man up on the wife comment.
September 17th, 2013 at 10:30 pm
I’ll throw you another bone. I stated that Schiano doesnt like Freeman. And that if we go into the bye 0-4, 1-3, Freeman will be benched in favor of Schiano’s project QB, who Schianos had a hard on over since the kid came out of high school.
So if we’re losing by the bye, Freeman will be Schiano’s sacrificial lamb, where all the blame will be diverted, and a project QB will buy him an extra 1 or 2 years of rebuilding.
I based this off of Schianos pressers and 620 show. Where he stated that our offense had no rhythym. And I point the finger back at him since he sat our starters for most of the preseason.
But as far as you claiming I said Schiano tampered with Freeman’s helmet, thats a blatant asss lie, that originated with you…. not me.
you get no respect dude. 3 people I cant stand in life, rapists, theives, and liars.

Man, it seems this place really livens up after Beer:30 PM rolls around.
As a newer guy to the boards, could someone please give me some insight as to how many times Tiny2centimeters usually signs off for good in a given evening.?
i’m hoping its at least a few more..Keep up the good work boys.
September 17th, 2013 at 10:35 pm
its been a small sample size but so far Im proud of how far this defense has come, and in large part its becasue of Schiano. some of you need to just recognize that for a second, because the media sure isnt. if you need a reminder about how far we’ve come on defense, just go back to 2011 when we were giving up 200 yards rushing game. are we all the way there yet? no, but believe it or not we have improved. the wins will come.
September 17th, 2013 at 10:39 pm
4 times Buccaray…. 4times.
Good night!

“Oh, and we’re not talented. Talented teams win.”
——–
Absolutely not true, not always. There have been plenty of teams that have had great talent, but ended up doing nothing. Did you forget about the Eagles a couple years ago? Even the Chiefs had a ton of talent last year and went 2-14. It happens every single year.
Our team has a lot of talent. On defense, we have excellent players at 4 levels (McCoy, Revis, David, Goldson). These are perrenial pro bowlers, and arguably the best at their position. Can you really argue that? On offense, there’s not many WR duos better than Jackson and Williams, nor is there many RB’s better than Martin (the guy you said you saw nothing special in last year – you thought I forgot about that I bet). On paper, we have one of the best lines in football. It would be nice to see them on the field together for once. We have obvious holes (TE, slot WR, and QB), but to say we arent’ talented because we are losing is false, and very lazy. But then again, I wouldn’t expect anything less from you.
September 17th, 2013 at 10:42 pm
People need to shut up about the defense. Currently we are giving up 17 points per game. Only one defense gave up less than 17 ppg last year. Additionally we have scored 1 Defensive TD as well as assisted our offense to 2 offensive scores from turnovers. We have over 1/3 of the sacks we had last year through only our first 2 games. If Schiano is behind the Bucs playing “too much” zone, then I say keep it up.
September 17th, 2013 at 10:59 pm
Just to clarify…the Buccaneers Defense is not “fixed”.
“Fixed” is Top 5. Fixed is minimal penalties.
It’s…regenerating. getting better. But it is not fixed.
September 17th, 2013 at 11:27 pm
Man a lot happened today.
@TBBF
Add me on that list of positive fans. Thank you
@tonytwocents
That really crossed the line and was totally uncalled for. But I’m glad you manned up and apologized. That wasn’t cool.
Really there’s no need for drastic changes yet. This is only week 2 guys. Let’s play this out first.
Why does everyone want dominiks head for? He’s been a solid gm. Sure he’s made mistakes in the past but can you point out any gm that hasn’t? He’s put us in excellent cap space to be able to have landed huge catches like Vjax, Revis, Nicks etc. Yes he’s made mistake like Clayton’s contract, Ware, Q. Black before he stepped it up but for every mistake he’s made he’s made two to three huge successes. Especially from the scrap bin. We wouldn’t have such a talented team right now if it wasn’t for him. And no one here can deny the talent we have at all levels of the game and ultimately he deserves credit for that.
Just like how people need to cool down with the Schiano firing talk, everyone needs to cool down with the Schiano for HC AND GM talk. You’re crazy if you think Schiano is the reason why our roster is so stacked with talent. Yes we have thin spots but good coaches utilize the strengths of his roster and even boosts up the weakness. See Bostad, Bob. Last year he turned an injury plagued line into a very respectable unit. That’s a credit to Dominik and Bostad. Dominik for getting those players and Bostad for coaching them up.
So let’s stop attacking each other just respect each other. Everyone has opinions but there’s no reason to be dirty.
Here’s to week 3!
September 17th, 2013 at 11:29 pm
@hawaiian,
The “were talented” stuff is loserville.
Detroit has been saying it for years. This is the NFL you can look at any roster and find talented guys. Chiefs had four or five pro bowlers last year.
They don’t play the games on paper. Talented teams don’t go 1-7 in their last eight.
There is a difference between having talented players here and there and having a talented team. Weaknesses get exposed in the NFL…..so wins and losses is the only true test. Otherwise it’s an exercise in subjective whiny homerism.
Match up vs. match up were not a talented team. Real talented offenses go five or six deep on receivers. Other teams can’t cover all of them. We got one. Cover him and we have no answer. Do we have any talented tight ends? Have you noticed how the other teams in our division have superstar tight ends? It’s become one of the most important positions in pro football and we got nobody. Is our third wideout talented? Do we have a running back who can spell Martin and catch the ball out of the backfield?
And I haven’t even mentioned free who is the most important player on our team. Not talented. Bad mechanics. No feel for the game.
Doesn’t add up Mr. hawaiian, and wanting it to be so doesn’t make it so.
September 17th, 2013 at 11:36 pm
@Eric,
Perhaps you just skimmed right over the section where I said we have some obvious holes? I think you are confusing a talented team versus a good team. I would not argue we are a good team, because we aren’t. But talented, absolutely. Are we the most talented? Absolutely not. I would, however, put us up against a huge majority of the other teams in the league. Do you not believe that if we had a proven NFL coach we would probably be 2-0? Of course we would. We are weak at QB, and that’s ultimately going to keep us from the goal. But to say we don’t have a ton of talent at other positions is a stupid thing to say. We aren’t a great team, we probably aren’t even a good team, but we do have talent. We are not going 3-13 as you predict.
September 17th, 2013 at 11:40 pm
No matter what, you are never going to say anything positive about us as long as Dominik is the GM. You never have anything positive to say. You are literally still crying over Gruden. Ok we all get it, it was a bad decision. We should have kept him. But that was 5 years ago, MOVE ON!!! There is no going back in time. You cry about the same thing for the 4 years I’ve been on this site, doesn’t it get old? Mrs. Eric must be such a lucky lady.
September 17th, 2013 at 11:45 pm
@Eric
I’m sorry but I’ll also have to disagree with you. We do have a lot of talent on this team and probably the one of the most talented losing teams. But that’s where it is up to the coaches to put the talent in the best position to win. Play to their strengths. It’s not talent alone that wins games. It’s good coaching.
Just because we can’t run a spread offense doesn’t mean we lack talent. Just because we don’t have a stud TE, because supposedly we hardly use TEs (not my words), doesn’t mean we lack talent. Nor does it mean we are not a talented team. I believe we are a talented team. That’s where you need a good coach to bring that talent together and make it great. That’s called synergy.
September 17th, 2013 at 11:52 pm
Great post Joe! Glad to hear someone in the media publically oppose the mainstream lies! I had to listen to how bad the Bucs were in disarray this morning and have no shot of turning it around… Yet the panthers can turn it around because they have lost two close games… This was on BSPN mike and mike! They obviously do not pay attention because the Bucs have lost by only 3 points in two games–terrible losses but oh so close to 2-0… They are not talking X’s and O’s–Bucs D has the most sacks in the NFL through 2 weeks–defense is balling–offense is the issue… They will get better and can turn it around!
September 17th, 2013 at 11:56 pm
@hawaiian,
Can’t argue with you there I have been crying for four years.
I like to call it stating a reasoned opinion which has proven to be correct, but that’s semantics.
But man, a talented team that isn’t good? A little too nuanced for me man.
We’re limited because of our franchise QB? I agree but that’s a he’ll of a setback.
A good coach and we’d be 1-1. It was a bit flukish we were even in the Saints game.
So other than crappy head coach and QB all is well…….seems like crying is the way to go….

Just to step outside the Schiano box for a sec, and go back in time with Derrick Brooks:
One criticism of Coach Dungy that always came up early in his career was the question of whether he was a true motivator. People thought he wasn’t that because they think the louder you get, the more you’re going after it. But Coach was motivated to win. He just channeled it in a different way.
I can remember him sitting in the back of film rooms when I was in my second year and [former Bucs assistant coach] Lovie Smith would give me a negative mark on a tackle.
When I complained that I made the play, Coach Dungy would say, “That’s not good enough. With your talent that play should be a tackle for a loss.” It got to the point that I actually met with him and asked him point-blank, “Will I ever please you?” And he said, “It’s not about pleasing me. It’s about maximizing your talent.”
That was the last time I asked him that question because he taught me a lot about his philosophy in that moment.
September 18th, 2013 at 12:02 am
Maximize your talent Josh.
September 18th, 2013 at 12:13 am
@Eric,
That is a hell of a setback, no argument there. I’m not even asking for Peyton Manning. I’d take Kirk Cousins at this point, unproven and all.
The players are there to win. Freeman anywhere near his 2010 self and we are right up there with the best of them. It appears that was more of a fluke than anything, but I think you get my point.
I hate it so much that you appear to be right about Schiano so much. Hope you realize how much it hurts for me to type that 🙂
September 18th, 2013 at 12:16 am
“Joe would have been thrown out of journalism school for that.”
JOE WENT TO JOURNALISM SCHOOL??
THAT INFORMATION IS FROM SOME UNNAMED SOURCE.
September 18th, 2013 at 12:51 am
I’ve got a few things now, I was close but I think I might have missed it. It was about 2 days after you said all this stuff below which I also remember you saying. You concocted the idea that Schiano purposely messed with Freeman’s communication. That Schiano was setting Freeman up to fail on purpose. If it was not you then it was someone else and I’ll apologize, but I will continue to look for it in the morning. It’s a bitch looking through all these threads though.
“I mentioned how Freemans headset was cutting in and out like a bad cell phone, and all he heard from the playcall was “you got that?”.”
“So when Freeman came to the sideline and explained that his headset was cutting in and out, I questioned our coaching staff as to why they sent him out there with the SAME faulty headset, which continued to malfunction, when all they had to do was give him a different helmet.”
Here’s how close I was to finding it so far: tonytwocents Says:

“Since my last comment got trashed, I’ll say it again… much respect to Deumig. I’ve been critical of him in the past, but I have agreed with everything he’s said so far.”
“Schiano DOES NOT want Freeman to succeed. It’s in Schiano’s personal interest to bring in his own hand-picked project QB to buy him a few more years. He wants HIS fingerprint on this team.”
It was around this time frame when you said it point blank about the helmut conspiracy. I’ll find it for you and hey no hard feelings and all. I just don’t ever forget what I read. That’s why I try to save things that I see as outlandish, but your my homeboy so when I saw you talking about it I just laughed and shook my head and went and told my wife about it. I specifically remember telling her that you are hilarious and how much I liked your posts before I told her what you typed about the helmut deal.
September 18th, 2013 at 1:27 am
look ’87, (I dont know why Im still up going through this with you)….
I absolutely, without a doubt said that it would be in Schiano’s best personal interest for Freeman not to succeed, go into the bye with a losing record, and buy himself another couple of years developing Glennon.
In todays NFL, a coach is given less and less time to make the playoffs. And if Schiano, off the bat, doesnt like what he sees in Freeman, he wont think its fair that he was given a QB that he didnt approve. I personally believe Schiano is a control freak, and wants his stamp on this team. And his Type A personality will clash with Freeman unless Schiano mellows out a bit, like Coughlin did in the mid 2000s, which regained his players trust and led him to 2 SBs… But in addition, Freeman would have to go all in, (Rocky montage style).
But ’87, for the last time, I never said Schiano messed with Freemans helmet. I may be crazy, but Im not THAT crazy. Thats why you cant find the statement….. It was never said.
You took certain comments from here and there, and came up with that story. You lied. Bottom line. Thats why theres no record of it. I think the liquor got to you one night and you stepped outside of reality for a minute.
But whatever…. for the last time, (the fifth time now?), I’m done with the JBF boards. But Joe, I’ll still visit your site the usual 12~24 times a day. Peace to all the REAL fans! GO BUCS!!!

A lot of new posters that never posted before on here to stir up crap….hmmmmm. Just sayin.
September 18th, 2013 at 11:19 am
In all my years as a Tampa Bay fan I have NEVER seen the media trying so hard to destroy a team.
