Grim News For Bucs Fans

Unofficial Bucs historian Joey Johnston suggests it is time to research the draft. So how about Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron?

Unofficial Bucs historian Joey Johnston suggests it is time to research the draft. So how about Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron?

As Joe pointed out earlier, when an NFL team starts out at 0-2, there is just a 12 percent chance of said team making the playoffs.

Joe asks that you brace yourselves for the following piece of information from unofficial Bucs historian Joey Johnston of the Tampa Tribune. Based on Bucs history, the Bucs playoff chances in 2013 are already toast.

@JJohnstonTBO: For 16th time, #TBBucs have started 0-2. Made playoffs only once with that start, but that was 1982 strike shortened season (5-4).

Wake Joe up if you must, but this isn’t a strike-shortened season.

So it seems the season is already over and the only thing left to figure out is where the Bucs draft? Man. Joe just wants to crawl into a fetal position and nurse a bottle of Bushmills the rest of the day and into the night.

Joe cannot tell you how depressing this news is. It’s Sept. 16 and, if history is a barometer, the season of hope is dashed. And Joe has a history degree.

Welp, Joe will let the cat out of the bag. Before last spring’s draft, Joe was having a beer with WTSP-TV, Channel 10 executive producer Matt Sinn and told Matt that Joe would lay a little cash Schiano would draft Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron in 2014, who would be a perfect Schiano-like, manage-the-game quarterback, schooled by Nick Saban on discipline.

well the law of averages would imply that the Buccs are due to make the playoffs after starting 0-2 eventually… so 2013 might be the season!!!

  2. bucrightoff Says:

I think its unfair to call McCaron a game manager. When I watch him I see a guy who in his 3rd year as starter has total command of his offense. Thats what I like to see. He also can make more throws than you think. He does benefit from having an exceptional offense line, but the Bucs too have a very good offensive line. McCarron wouldn’t be a bad pick at all.

  3. Andrew 1 Says:

my hope is low but not completely gone. the bucs dont have history on their side but they can sure as hell make history.

Freeman’s chances have almost run out. I give him another 4 games to turn this thing around before its adios forever.

I also like McCarron. proven winner who can do what is asked of him.

  4. BigSombrero Says:

Ill join the “fire Schiano” Bandwagon if we draft AJ Mccarron.

  5. Clintro Says:

LOL… might as well just forfeit the rest of the season and send everyone home early to rest up for next year

    \sarcasum

  6. Mike J Says:

I like the guy at Oregon.

    Sigh.

  7. MadMax Says:

Im ok with McCaron, but I’d rather have Bridgewater…..and the way its going for our season, its possible we could get him too!

  8. bucrightoff Says:

Mariota will obviously be targeted hard by the Eagles. I really like him though, 6’4 with great speed and accurate. Of course there’s always Johnny Football. Can you imagine Johnny and Schiano together? I’d be curious as all hell to watch.

  9. Eric Says:

wow, back to the fantasy offseason in record time.

Were so good when were not playing anyone.

  10. zam Says:

And how many of those teams that didn’t make the playoffs lost by only a combined total of 3 points? look at the teams that lost that close and I bet you the playoff conversion percentage is ridiculously higher…

  11. AceOfAerospace Says:

Discussing potential draft positions on Sep 16 makes me feel sick. However, “I” have lost hope for this season unless our defense can score 21 points a game. I know, let’s punt on third down instead. Give our defense more opportunities to score.

  12. bucfanjeff Says:

0-2 to start the season, GASP! Might as well not even play the remaining games then…Good F@#*ing Grief – this sites negatively toned posts and comments kill me. You should be called Chicken Little Fan.

  13. Raphael Says:

Oh great another 4 or 5 yrs ….

    Rinse repeat
    Rinse repeat

As a life long buccaneer fan I have seen this since ’76 …that’s why I root for Freeman . He is the best we have had..

But have at it guys and girls …enjoy

  14. lightningbuc Says:

I’m pretty sure Manziel can’t come out for the draft until 2015 – he’s only a sophomore.

Glennon needs to play immediately, so we can see what we got.

Derek Dimke Mob (Has Lindell been released yet?)

  15. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Is there any other type of news for Bucs fans lately? Its all grim.

  16. bucrightoff Says:

Manziel is a redshirt sophmore (so yes, Mike Sherman got fired with Johnny on the bench) so he is eligible. And he hates College Station so he’s leaving the first chance he gets.

  17. Couch Fan Says:

I personally always thought it was stupid to cut Dimke for Lindell. Dimke was very good for 3 games then had a bad one. Lindell had 1 or 2 kicks and they decided to stick with him. Guess that one came back to bite me in the @ss.

  18. Couch Fan Says:

    bite them*

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Calm down Joe. History is exactly that. The past. The same history where the Bucs have never won a game when it’s 40 degrees or below. The Skins are 0-2 as well. Are many in fans in Washington thinking about that 12% chance of making the playoffs? That I don’t know, but I doubt it.

  20. Joe Says:

Calm down Joe. History is exactly that. The past. The same history where the Bucs have never won a game when it’s 40 degrees or below.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

    Only fools ignore history.

  21. blackmagic00 Says:

Off subject, did anyone see we only had 10 guys on the last goal li.e stand before the half? This team needs to get their act together quickly or we will get to draft real high. so much talent going to waste. love this team though.

  22. DallasBuc Says:

We had a very slow start last year too before freeman caught fire. Once this offense gets humming we will be a tough team to beat. We are very close to being 2-0. I am as depressed as anyone about this start but it is still early. Go bucs!

  23. bucrightoff Says:

The thing that makes 0-2 so difficult is the NFC. The Bucs can finish 10-4 and still miss the playoffs. Need to bank wins when you can gues 10-6 is no guarantee to make the playoffs.

  24. BFFL Says:

I guess no one has hope for Glennon.

  25. bucfanjeff Says:

“Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.”

Those who study history will still repeat it, because if you assume something will never work, because it didn’t work, then you’ll never challenge yourself to make it better.

  26. Cannon Says:

Not that it matters much, but we are 3 points from being undefeated.

  27. ShutTheBucUp Says:

I still have faith in this team. Just need the offense to step it up and we need to rid ourselves of the mindless penalties. Need a lot of things to go our way to make it into the postseason, but hey, stranger things have happened.

  28. Meh Says:

2 games and the season is already tanking bad. Depressing. At least they ripped the bandaid off quickly.

  29. 76buc76 Says:

That just means 0-2 teams r due

  30. Ed Says:

I think Washington isn’t going to make the playoffs. The teams that will get in will be Seattle, SF, Atlanta, Green Bay, Chicago and New Orleans. Those teams know how to Win and have good QBs. Shiano and Freeman are proven losers, they had to win yesterday, they didn’t. They will win possibly one road game, @ Carolina but all the other away games will likely be losses- @Falcons, @Seahawks, @ Saints, @ Rams, @ Lions. Maybe they win at home vs Panthers, Cards, Eagles, Bills and Falcons but on the road other than Carolina they can’t score enough points. Only against the Browns, Jags, Raiders, Titans and Vikings can you score 15-16 points and win. An under achieving 6-10 season is probably what this team will put up.

  31. Couch Fan Says:

I guess no one has hope for Glennon.

    ———————————-

Wrong! I have hope for Glennon. Until he shows otherwise. I’m not sure why anybody is down on Glennon considering he hasent had a chance to show anything one way or the other… Free can not say the same.

  32. BucNasty Says:

If Schiano wants a game manager, why is Mike Sullivan the offensive coordinator? His offense consists of running the ball and averaging 20 yards/throw with 55% passer accuracy, i.e. the Giants offense?

  33. SteveBucsFan Says:

I’m for Glennon! Start him ASAP. Imagine if Glennon goes to New England and gets a win! Finally a QB with a little confidnece!

Instead of Dimke we should get Kickalicious. He hit everything.

  34. PRBucFan Says:

Lol it’s simply idiotic to act as if we wont make the playoffs because of what statistics show, unless i’m mistaken there are 14 games left?

Anyone having this conversation now is just A. an idiot or B. stirring the pot

New season, new year, new team and past teams years and their outcomes have no literal bearing on what this team can actually do.

I am shaken too, and have banned myself from all Bucs media because they are all going to be putting stuff out like this, but I can’t help but to still have faith/hope this early in the year and especially after seeing how dominant our defense can be.

  35. 911bucs Says:

    Cannon,
We have to be close to turning the corner with that point differential. I believe it.

  36. BucFan20 Says:

It’s Freeman’s fault. No it’s Lindell’s fault. Wait It’s Johnson’s. No. It’s the coaches fault. Well seems some can’t make up their mind who put us here.
Now we are 0-2. Well gang seasons over. No teams are 1-1 that could have a worse records. at he end. So we draft another QB and wait how many years? This has been a fun day. But it’s what I expected.

  37. BirdDoggers Says:

The season isn’t over. If the players start playing like the season’s over, well, then it’s probably over. There’s enough time for Schiano to right the ship and get this team back in the hunt. It might look grim, but it’s way too early in the season to give up. Yes, that’s my optimism speaking.

  38. Oahubuc (Glennon Mob Souljah) Says:

Intriguing prospect. Stick with what you know. As a franchise, we know success with a swarming, hard-hitting, take-the-ball-away defense and a QB who just doesn’t screw up too much.

  39. Camby Says:

Please g0d dont let Schiano (or Domenik) be here next here to spend a high draft pick on a game manager at the next level because “DERP A DERP hustle scrap Saban right way of playing ratchet up the tude!”

Perhaps if anyone in the Glazer family is still paying attention to the bucs they will clean house with the staff, and whomever comes in next year can select from actual TALENTED, playmaking QB’s like Teddy Bridgewater, Taj Boyd, etc. and not the next Joey Harrington.

I have pretty much stopped giving a crap who Schiano likes, mainly because they’re all former players from Rutgers.

If there was a potential draftee from Rutgers that was also a team captain, I imagine our HC and GM sitting in a candle lit room getting tender with themselves while making that pic.

  40. SteveBucsFan Says:

    I bet you do….

  41. Cdog Says:

Seriously what does it matter Buc’s history with 1st round picks at QB is clear it is a wasted pick plus. If we fail and players keep airing their displeasure about schiano we will probably have a new coach to.

  42. Tye Says:

Just the thought of the Bucs getting a QB that actually has had success in the college ranks like A.J. McCarron brings excitement to the Bucs future and could be what the Bucs can finally do differently… Though the chances of A.J. wearing a Bucs jersey are probably slim…. VERY interesting though!

  43. Bobby Says:

News flash!! Defense has allowed last minute scores 2 weeks in a row. Might want to clean that up before we start getting new QB’s, etc.

  44. 76buc76 Says:

I’m pretty sure we started 1-3 last year. Then made a big run. Until Freeman choked. 2011 we started 3-1 then never won another game. The season is far from over. We are 2 games out of 1st. If the Saint’s came in here and handed us our a$$. That would be one thing. The Saint’s are very beatable. C’mon people we should have beaten a top 10 team with BAD JOSH. Josh is way to inconsistant to keep playing this bad. I’m with couch fan, how in the heck does everbody know Glennon can’t get it done? He was a gunslinger in preseason. That’s not what will be asked of him. All we need is a game manager with our defence. Bahhh bahhh Glennon is a career backup. Bahhh bahhh he’ll take 2-3 year’s to be an average QB. I’m sure there was a guy at pat’s camp back in day. Saying “this Brady kid look good maybe he can beat out Bledsoe”. Then had most fan’s jumping down his throught. “Brady ha, that guy that ran a 6.0 40. 1/2 a rep at the bench press. That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard”

  45. Trubucfan22 Says:

WOW. It’s week 2 and already packing it in… U guys make me sick. This team is different from any buc team in history. I don’t give 2 turds what history says, if the games haven’t been played then we still have a chance. We nearly (should have) beat the aints last week with a terrible offensive show. With the d we have shown we can definitely turn it around. We were literally 1 minute from being 2-0. Stop whining about the quarterback or the coaches, this team will find its identity and it will be successful.

    GO BUCS!!!
