Front Office/Coaching Failures Are Glaring
September 22nd, 2013The Bucs are painfully thin at tight end, and today they relied on undrafted rookie tight end project Tim Wright from (all together now) Rutgers to catch his first NFL pass in the end zone at a key moment.
It was a well thrown ball from Freeman and it went through Wright’s hands. Tough Catch? Yes. But Joe’s more concerned by what the hell Wright is doing on the field to begin with? Sure, you can say Wright has to make plays just like the Patriots’ rookies did today, but the Bucs had — and still have — room under the salary cap for more help and competition at tight end. They passed on that. Who evaluated Wright as NFL-worthy? He showed nothing through preseason and training camp and through the first two weeks that Joe could notice.
On the Buccaneers Radio Network postgame show, former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht referred to Wright as “a guy that probably shouldn’t be out there.”
One can say the Bucs don’t emphasize the tight end position much, but still, Dallas Clark caught 47 balls and four touchdowns last season. That production has to be made up.
Joe also looks at Bucs No. 3 receiver Kevin Ogletree, a guy who has shown worse hands than Michael Clayton’s, and Joe wonders who the hell evaluated this guy to be worthy of his job. And he’s our third best receiver?
As for the offensive playcalling? It’s not working. It’s as if NFL defenses caught up to Mike Sullivan late last season and never looked back.
“What were the second-half adjustments?” Becht asked rhetorically.
Joe has to point a finger at rockstar general manager Mark Dominik and the coaching staff for a chunk of the troubles on offense. Yes, No. 5 hasn’t been good. But it hasn’t been pretty around him, either.
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:46 pm
Clean house. ….. Rock star – gone Schiano – gone. Freeman – stays. 🙂
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:48 pm
Maybe Ogletree’s problem is he tries to catch with both hands
he had a great one hander WHILE being interferred with.
Just trying to lighten it up a bit, because i agree, these problems are glaring but you can only coach the players you are given.
I think that they DID make coaching adjustments at halftime and that was to coach AROUND Freeman giving them just a couple of more weeks to get Glennon ready.
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:49 pm
Who’s worth bringing ? I don’t really see a good coach besides Lovie Smith, doubt Gruden, Cowher, Dungy would take this job.
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:50 pm
@ Kryq
David Shaw from Stanford
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:51 pm
WTH – Freeman stays? Take all of them and lock them in purgatory lol. This has been a long time coming and the reaper has finally caught up with the untouchable Dominik.
This team has some talent but the key contributors are just horrid. Gm HC and Qb are married to death do them apart and that day is approaching. For any fan to say keep Freeman is a abomination to the HOFs and great players of the past.
Clean house Glazers!
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:52 pm
This is going to be a VERY long season!!!!
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:53 pm
They will have to overpay to get a real GM in here and get a proven HC. The price of failure!
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:53 pm
Freeeman is as good as gone Raph. You might as well pack your stuff up now.
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:54 pm
No Lovie smith! He had a freaking decade w/ Chicago they weren’t that good. Plus he got Jay Culter and still did jack s***!! Promote Sully to interim HC keep D staff and get a new QB. There are no plays in the play book that require the QB to throw at WRs feet!
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:54 pm
Raphael will always have his Josh “Thriller” framed pictures to enjoy. Hanging above his bed naturally.
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:55 pm
Schiano adjusted by taking a leak, grabbing a cold drink, eating one of those delicious meatball grinders that he had been dreaming about all 1st half, smoked a quick Marlboro and changed into a fresh new shirt in case one of those network babes stuck a mike into his face. It would be embarrassing to have tomato sauce stains on his shirt.
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:56 pm
@Joe
Things haven’t been the same around here since Mr Malcolm Glazer unfortunate stroke in 2006. IMHO its time to call Mr. Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr-Sounds like Saban is itching to get back into the NFL-The pairing could bold well for us-since (THEIR BOTH WINNERS)
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:57 pm
Schiano does a radio show Monday nights at 6:00 pm here locally, 740am dial. Last two weeks people have blasted him, can’t wait to hear what they say tomorrow night. Except it might send a message if NO ONE called in. I might call and ask him about the Tight end situation as it is confusing as to why they could not / will not spend money on a decent (proven) FA tight end. Oh, and whoever they decide on eventually must not have ever played at Rutgers.
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:57 pm
really….after two coaches with ZERO experience coming in were gonna do it for a third time?
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:57 pm
IT ALL STARTS AT THE TOP!!!
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:57 pm
Hard to believe but these player’s like Freeman . If they replace him you will see what i am talking about. Will be a press conference call on wed to talk about the G.M. The player’s have told this coach that this run on first down offense do not work in the pros.
September 22nd, 2013 at 4:59 pm
We are drifting into Raheem Morris territory, it’s time ot make a switch. Fire Schiano, make Sully interim HC. Give Sully and Freeman remaineder of the season to fight for their jobs.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:00 pm
Dom brought in DMartin, VJackson, MWilliams, AC, GMC, Spence(this kids gonna be a force), Mason Seaside Foster, LVD, Goldson, Barron, and Revis.
Scia-Oh-No brought in Glennon.
I think we can all agree that we enjoy having this talent on the roster. Well if we want to retain these guys for the next 2-3 years, then we’re gonna have to leave some scratch in the bank when their contracts come up.
We could have had Crabtree as a go-to TE. Joe referenced him making some plays in preseason. But our HC decided to play him in a meaningless 4th preseason game…as a FB… and he’s been injured now for 3 weeks +.
Who knows why we didnt retain Underwood? At least Freeman and him hooked up for over 400 yards and had some familiarity with each other.
Oh hell no. Shiano’s gotta go.
Let Sully be the interim HC, lets see what Glennons got, and retain the defensive staff.
And in the offseason, we’ll have a few extra months to find a PROFESSIONAL COACHING ENSEMBLE.
(remember, we were rushed into settling for Shia-Oh-No)
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:01 pm
Ed where did you read that? Lol
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:02 pm
Owner’s that say “they listened to the fan’s” and fired Gruden and this is what the team has become? How is anyone surprised?
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:03 pm
Get Marty in here before the bye week. Let him stabilize this disaster and maybe coach one more year after and move to front office.
Don’t let rock near any personnel decisions. He can continue washing the Glazer boys cars on weekends.
Send him to Costa Rica during the draft.
This wouldn’t even cost money, Marty would do it for the love of the game.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:04 pm
Jackson@slot =Bruised (or worse) ribs. Why ? Lack of talent recognition and a lack of effort in pursuing quality backups before talent pool is picked clean. Kinda like the last coaching search. How do SO many coaches do SO poorly ? Is Tampa the Elephant’s graveyard of coaching jobs ?
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:06 pm
Well there are not really all that many NFL experienced coaches available to choose from. Most teams pick coordinators that end up turning into winners.
People say Lovie Smith…well, first everyone wants an offensive minded coach and then you say Lovie. Well Lovie is defense, guys. His track record in Chicago with QBs and offense isn’t really all that great.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:10 pm
TWO WORDS,,, THEY SUCK. WAS THIS A COLLAGE TEAM WE JUST WATCH AND A BAD ONE AT BEST. I’M GIVIN ARE TICKETS AWAY AND I WILL LEAVE THEM ON A WINDSHIELD OF A CAR AT THE GAME. I’M ABANDON SHIP, THIS IS AS BAD AS T. DILFER DAYS, GLAZERS SALE THE TEAM,YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO HIRE A COACH AND GM. I’M OVER IT !!!!!!!
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:10 pm
I just tried to Listen to the head coach on the Bucs website and I turned it off when he said he has to look at the TAPE to find out why we only had 3 points on offense,,,and that was the first question.
was he not watching the game? Sad
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:10 pm
I’m with Eric! Bring in Marty, and let him coach for about 3-4 years and then he can move to front office. He’ll get us on the right track.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:11 pm
Schiano reminds me of John Mckay the way he takes former players and coaches from Rutgers. John McKay coached at USC before coming to the Bucs. It was always a knock on him. Always favoring people he was familiar with. We need to purge him out before it gets worse. Every player that went to Rutgers can’t be pro caliber.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:11 pm
This is the quote from the movie Pulp Fiction (Ezekiel 25:17) slightly amended by Splengo.
“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of incompetent men posing as NFL coaches. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak player through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his QB’s keeper and the finder of lost WRs. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my team. And you will know my name is the Glazers when I lay my vengeance upon thee”.
Beware the rider of the pale horse!
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:11 pm
Mike Glennon time! Lets get Jadeavon Clowney!! Woohoo! If Schiano gets fired I say hire 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman! Hopefully this year gets better but right now it seems the only way this team will turn around is a quarterback change. Defense is improved but not quite there yet, we look reminiscent to the pre-harbaugh 49ers. Atleast in 2010 Raheem knew how to win those close games, Schiano just gives the game away. So far Raheem STILL has more wins then Schiano.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:20 pm
Throw freeman and dom in the gulf and go get Bill Polian. Bill Polian. Bill Polian. Bill Polian. Bill Polian. Pay him a kings ransom if needed. Get POLIAN!!
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:20 pm
@ buc4lyfe
LOL dude who do you want? Shaw is the hot name right now AND his style fits our current personnel.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:21 pm
Where can I get one of those MGM shirts and membership cards? I want one TODAY
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:25 pm
@Chef Paul
Disagree on Polian. He’s had his time. Plus he’s been out of the league for a couple years which is a lifetime for GMs. I’d like to see some younger scouting director who’s currently in the NFL from one of the better franchises in the League (like Tom Gable from the Niners)
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:26 pm
Well you see, Joe…
A pass-catching tight end isn’t important in this offense, remember?
I do.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:36 pm
The past coaches we had, only one was an Offensive minded HC. Gruden. And he was the only one to take us to the promised land and keep us in contention year after year..
even though we were crippled by no cap room due to Rich McKays GManagement (but I cant hate on Rich. he kept our core group of killers on Defense, even though it was at the expense of the offense)
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:38 pm
If Schiano gets fired, then give Sully FULL REIGN and put it on HIM to straighten Freeman out. So if Freeman fails, its Sully’s job. Bring back Alex Van Pelt to QB coach Free. He’s still a kid for fuccks sake!
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:42 pm
He’s a 5th year player making rookie mistakes and regressing. Thats not a kid anymore. Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson are kids and they’re going to be elite.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:44 pm
I wish Freeman success in Jacksonville. And I wish Schiano success in South-Northwest Hawaii State College Technical Institute.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:48 pm
MakveliTheDon=TrueBuc=TonyTwoCents=Hogwash Whisperer
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:49 pm
@bucrightoff
He’s 25. Bottom line. Most 25 year olds need the right person who can give them structure and discipline. Maybe Luck and Wilson were blessed with great role models/ coaches.
Free was given a coach who planted his seed of doubt in this young mans mind when he went and drafted Glennon and didnt rule out that Glennon would be the starter. Thats why I say Free needs another Alex Van Pelt. I sensed a positive bond there. A former QB, passing on knowledge to 2010 JFro. Schiano’s a different breed. Jersey, stubborn, defensive. Cow Bell. More Cow Bell!
Anyways, I wish freeman success. But this team is done.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:53 pm
And I asked before and got no replies: Where is Josh Freeman starting next year? I don’t see it being anywhere.
September 22nd, 2013 at 5:59 pm
Well we could get a younger guy who’s proven nothing. Tried that before or guy that has proven himself for decades. Literally decades of proof. Its not like polian forgot how to draft in a year and a half.l
September 22nd, 2013 at 6:06 pm
Its gonna take the rest of whats going to be a slow, ugly season for you guys to realize where the real problem lies.
BUT, its only gonna take the players one more pathetic loss to figure it out.
And the Glazers already know where the real problem lies. They’re just concerned right now about how to get rid of “the problem” while still giving the fans optimism so that they keep buying tickets and merchandise.
September 22nd, 2013 at 6:38 pm
SteveK – you smart son of a btch! My money was on ’87 catching on to that. But I should have known that your name switching azz would recognize another.
You probably recognized the ridiculous amount of sense and logic in my posts and thought “I havent read a real post like that since…….”. But kudos fggot! TonyTwoCents = MakaveliTheDon. He is I and I is him, slim with the tilted brim. So fck your mother.
Sully = Interim HC, Schiano = Gone, Gruden for HC 2014!
September 22nd, 2013 at 6:42 pm
I SAID THE BUC’S WILL GO 4 WINS AND 12 LOSTS AND THE COACH AND GM WILL BOTH BE FIRED. FOR SEE WHAT IS COMING…….
September 22nd, 2013 at 8:07 pm
Makiveli the Catfish,
Keep fishing up conspiracies about the HC, your QB sucks, be a Buc fan and not a Freeman fan.
You are all the way in clown town. I updated my signature block to: SteveK (MGM), once, you have changed yours everyday this week.
Your opinions are the same sheeeit wrapped up in a different name. Stick by your opinion, you senseless clown sh!t.
September 22nd, 2013 at 8:19 pm
You know what SteveK, props! Im genuinely impressed that you figured out who I was. So good job.
But I figured it was time for a change. There was bad blood with TonyTwoCents and you trailer trash inbreeds. So I went with one of my favorite artists of all time. Mr Tupac Amaru Shakur, aka Lesane Parish Crooks, aka Makaveli The Don.
And like the real Nicollo Machiavelli, I shed my persona as TonyTwoCents, only to rise from the ashes like a Phoenix, as MakaveliTheDon.
And Im GLAD that you found out! I could give a fucck. You backwards hillbilly MGM circle jerkin trailer trash Glennon Groupie.
September 22nd, 2013 at 8:21 pm
“Makiveli the Catfish”
gotta admit. that was kinda funny. outta nowhere…but funny.
September 22nd, 2013 at 8:25 pm
“Keep fishing up conspiracies about the HC, your QB sucks, be a Buc fan and not a Freeman fan. ”
dude, you would laugh at Freemans mistakes. borderline wishing he would fail so you could get your hero in there asap. That would mean we’d have to play some bad football for that to happen. So am I really the one whose not a Bucs fan?? hmm?? Steve (MGM)???
Like I said in the past, I’ll support all 22 starters who line up, whether its Freeman or Glennon. THATS how a fan does! Trashy motherfu(ker.
September 22nd, 2013 at 9:18 pm
The Rock star has brought in good talent and I believe he is doing a great job. I don’t think it was entirely his decision to bring in Shiano. Rock star stays. Shiano needs to go. And have Freeman play the styler of play he is good at. Let him scramble and run. He will be better if they let him play his game.
September 22nd, 2013 at 9:33 pm
MakiveliTheDon,
I want the Buc’s to win as a first priority, hence the (MGM). < Best chance to win.
September 22nd, 2013 at 9:53 pm
Look dude. Ive been on this site since we hired Raheem. And your ass this past year has been all about breakin Freemans balls. So that you could get your Circle Jerk fantasy in the game.
But you realize that you were rooting against the team in the process…
Now understand, I acknowledge that we will almost without a doubt turn to Glennon after next week, win or lose, as Ive said, that was Schi’s wish all along. But I’ll still support him if he’s under center wearing pewter n red. But heim and Schi better be damn sure that he’s as good or better than Free with the limited weapons hes got, or else this team will turn on El Capitan.
And then the Glazers will step in. And end some careers.
September 23rd, 2013 at 12:10 am
Most of you fricking phonies was behind this college coach at the begining.
Man up and admit when you think you know it all.
Fakes…. where is miguel magnificent.
Some of you maggots would jump all on other poster like your opibion was truth.
Some of yall need yall face punched in nerds..
I guess your not as smart as you thought you was!
September 23rd, 2013 at 3:46 am
@Sac
Are you that little jit that comes on here bragging about your 2A team?? Alright then! Give Joe a highlight clip of your ass so we can see how good youve claimed to be…. If you cant deliver, then get the fck out of here. You little jit.
September 23rd, 2013 at 4:17 am
