Freeman’s Captain Status Not Discussed
September 12th, 2013Of course, Joe knows Bucs players are not about to spill the minutes of their recent players-only meeting that either happened before or after the Jets season opener.
Joe was in the locker room today discussing various subjects with a number of Bucs players and, as expected, the players were coached-up on how to respond to the expected questions about said meeting.
Gabe Carimi, for example, couldn’t remember the subject(s) bantered about in said meeting.
“I don’t know anything about that. I didn’t hear anything about that,” offensive lineman Gabe Carimi said of the players-only meeting on a discussion of Freeman not elected captain.
When asked if there was discussion of Freeman’s commitment to the team, Carimi said, “I haven’t heard anything.”
Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune took this subject a step further. He knows the player who called the players-only meeting and had this reaction on Twitter.
@RCummingsTBO: The Bucs players only meeting was called by LS Andrew Economos who said it was more of a pep rally than a gripe session. … The player who called the Bucs player only meeting last week says no concerns over captains vote was raised during the conclave … For those who may wonder why the LS [long-snapper] would call a players only meeting, he is the longest tenured Buccaneer
Freeman himself in his press conference stated he was in attendance at the meeting. Donald Penn had noted that as many as four players-only meetings are called a year and wondered aloud why people would think this was news in any way.
September 12th, 2013 at 4:02 pm
Freeman called it a “round table discussion”…that’s the same thing as a pep rally right?
September 12th, 2013 at 4:09 pm
They sure have a great PR rep. Sidestep all these topics in one day. It’s too hard to believe none of it is true. Some stuff wrong? Sure I get it. The media are slithery snakes (except Joe.) But all of it is just blown out of proportion and fabricated? I don’t buy it
September 12th, 2013 at 4:10 pm
Carimi pulls a Sgt. Schultz. Nice!
September 12th, 2013 at 4:21 pm
Guess there isn’t any real Buccaneers news today. I’m tied of all this gossip crap.
September 12th, 2013 at 4:21 pm
That swooshing noise you hear is the wind going out of the hater’s sails. Lol
September 12th, 2013 at 4:22 pm
Holy cow. Josh finally got us attention on NFL network. They talked about the bucs for longer 20 seconds today. And it wasn’t because they were talking about our opponent.
September 12th, 2013 at 4:30 pm
Splengo ….lol. And that’s how the best QB in the history of the Bucs is treated … All he did was set franchise records last year and give us the lead with 40 seconds left in the game Sunday …..good grief ! Lol.
Haters gonna hate
September 12th, 2013 at 4:34 pm
Duh….This reeks of Poor GM Oversight. Time that Ownership Stepped into the situation. Greg Schiano’s actions have BACKFIRED and now has the Franchise coming apart at the seams.
NOTE TO GLAZERS: It is far easier to find a Coach than it is to find a QB or A Unified Team.
September 12th, 2013 at 4:41 pm
Exactly Rahb. There are at Least 15 teams that would love to have Freeman
September 12th, 2013 at 5:07 pm
All 15 can have him
September 12th, 2013 at 5:11 pm
You are clueless douch bag …. freeman is the best in Buc history
September 12th, 2013 at 5:15 pm
And hopefully he will be Bucs history
September 12th, 2013 at 5:21 pm
Hopefully he will be here another 5 yrs at least ..
September 12th, 2013 at 5:24 pm
As a back up? Sure I can live with that.
September 12th, 2013 at 5:29 pm
He may excell in the back up role. He can be the best back up we’ve ever had.
September 12th, 2013 at 5:32 pm
Franchise QB’s are not back ups …Josh is a franchise QB …our franchise QB ..
You should learn about football instead of just spouting off nonsense douchebag
September 12th, 2013 at 5:38 pm
I’ll excuse your typo. Franchise ruining QB. Now we agree.
September 12th, 2013 at 5:45 pm
Record setting franchise QB =. Josh Freeman
Look it up or should I provide a link ?
I will excuse your being ignorant
September 12th, 2013 at 5:50 pm
It’s going to be ok Raph. No need for all the childish name calling. Josh will set a new standard when it comes to holding clip boards and you will still have something to hold your head up proud about. He’ll be great in his new roll. You just watch and see.
September 12th, 2013 at 5:53 pm
That Freeman is the best in Bucs history is a perfect example of causality: We haven’t had many good QBs ever, therefore, it doesn’t take much to be the best in history.
Raphael, do you know what Josh’s stats in his last 4 games are? Pretty ugly, like Tebow level ugly. I hope Josh is the guy, but if you think he definitively is at this point you’re just being delusional.
September 12th, 2013 at 5:55 pm
Lol….. couch is a douche …your just a troll and not very good at it …
# jf5
September 12th, 2013 at 5:57 pm
@Bucrightoff
Shhhh dont be such a downer on Raph’s fantasty. He needs the belief “That free is the best QB in Bucs history” to hang his head on. If it weren’t for that… Freeman’s career would be non existant.
September 12th, 2013 at 6:00 pm
Raphael,
Please name the “15 teams that would love to have Freeman”?
1. Jaguars
2. Vikings
3, Injury
4. Additional Injury
5-15??
September 12th, 2013 at 6:02 pm
The only thing that matters:
Getting the “w”.
Freeman doesn’t care enough, nor has the extra drive necessary to be a better QB.
How can the team buy in if our QB doesn’t?
Ridiculous!? We are a mess. I thought were past the rebuild stage?
Rockstar GM= Nope
Freeman= Record Breaking Enigma
Buccaneers in 2013= Playoff bound?
We need a “w” this weekend. Do you think Freeman can perform well enough to beat Brees and the Saints?
Where are you FREEMANITES!?
September 12th, 2013 at 6:10 pm
Steve K,
Maybe the Browns too. That’s about it.
I am unsure how anyone sees this guy showing up late..more than once as acceptable. He sure gets (over) paid to be there and that’s far from a leadership example.
September 12th, 2013 at 6:11 pm
SteveK
Dont be silly. We both know Raph can’t back up anything he says. His retort will be something along the lines of “LMAO @ stupid haters” then disappear. Not necessarily in that order
September 12th, 2013 at 6:17 pm
I think we can beat the Saints, any team in the NFL can win on any given Sunday, wouldn’t surprise me at all.
I don’t understand the mindset of cheerleading for the Bucs to lose.
September 12th, 2013 at 6:22 pm
Especially against the Saints, I hate the Saints with every fiber in my body, would love to beat them. Not to mention we historically play them tough even in down years like 2010.
September 12th, 2013 at 6:58 pm
If the server fliter thingma jig didnt keep booting me offline I would post all the time. I cant even argue my point when somebody wants to challenge me. So say what you want lil girls
That took a hour to log that post.
September 12th, 2013 at 7:02 pm
I don’t think Freeman is the Bucs QB ever. That would be Doug Williams. I also think Schiano could be the Bucs best coach ever.
September 12th, 2013 at 7:04 pm
Steve Young is better than Doug Williams
September 12th, 2013 at 7:05 pm
Buc fan …then why did Freeman throw for the most TDs and yards EVERRR
By a Buc QB in a single season ????
I will wait while you answer ..
September 12th, 2013 at 7:05 pm
make that the Bucs best QB ever
September 12th, 2013 at 7:06 pm
Not while in a Bucs uni he wasnt.
September 12th, 2013 at 7:07 pm
Couch and his boyfriend steve
I can name 10 easily
Cardinals
Chiefs
Raiders
Jaguars
Titans
Vikings
Browns
Rams
Bears
Chargers
September 12th, 2013 at 7:10 pm
LMAO yea im sure half of the league is just dying to get a shot at a mediocre QB that does nothing til the final drive of games.
September 12th, 2013 at 7:11 pm
Steve young and Doug Williams were not even close to the QB Freeman is right now, when they were bucs .
September 12th, 2013 at 7:12 pm
New expansion team, strong arm throwing QB, exciting to watch, playoffs in third year, with this team Williams easily would have taken them super bowl. Culverhouse bumbled that team losing Williams. Stats are for losers.
September 12th, 2013 at 7:13 pm
Palmer, Smith, , Bradford, Cutler and Rivers are ALL better than Freeman…
It’s even silly that you would just throw there names out there as if its fact. LMAO I cant stop laughing at your stupidity.
September 12th, 2013 at 7:15 pm
Steve Young was on terrible teams, not really fair to blame that on him, Doug Williams was on one of the better Bucs teams of all tiem. Steve Young is in the HoF and Doug Williams isn’t, enough said.
September 12th, 2013 at 7:19 pm
Josh Freeman Franchise records :
1 most yards in a season
2 most tds in a season
3 Highest QB rating in a season. 95.6
4 Most 4 th qtr comebacks in a season
5 Least amount of ints in a season 6
6 most tds in a career. 78
7 most game winning drives in a season
8 most tds in consecutive games 11
9 longest completion by a buc QB 95 yards
And he is 25 yrs old .
Look how stupid you haters look right now Lmao Your destroyed !
September 12th, 2013 at 7:27 pm
Need to find the Rat Bastard…..starting all these rumors…
September 12th, 2013 at 7:44 pm
I might be alone here but I expect the defense and special teams to play good if not great against the Saints and the Offense to clean up the penaties and play better. I’m calling this one for the Bucs
September 12th, 2013 at 8:05 pm
Raphael, he has the records I’d imagine because the NFL is so disgustingly slanted towards the passing game now. Teams average only 93 yards this past weekend while they threw for the most yards ever in a weekend. The structure of the penalty calls, with the rules protecting the QB, defenseless receivers, and of course holding and illegal contact, 4,000 yards doesn’t even rate anymore.
September 12th, 2013 at 8:12 pm
If we are talking about the QBs while they were here Josh is clearly the best QB. Steve Young was about Josh’s age now when he was here and couldn’t beat out Steve Deberg and Doug over threw everybody his first 4 years and made the worst decisions. Both 7 year in the league learned to manage the game well when they have a good team around them. BTW I loved Doug Williams because he was our QB.
September 12th, 2013 at 8:24 pm
Raphael missed a couple of records for JFro:
Most team photos missed
Most children’s football camps missed
September 12th, 2013 at 8:29 pm
Lightning buc …way to stay classy …but then again that’s what you guys are all about …
September 12th, 2013 at 8:31 pm
Funny how the haters got nothing to say about franchise records…..
I have facts , you guys have nothing but stupidity .. Lmao
September 12th, 2013 at 8:44 pm
Raphael,
Who was the record for most INTs the last two seasons?
Trick question, Freeman shares that *NFL Record* with Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Freeman recorded a 48% completions last week.
September 12th, 2013 at 8:59 pm
Stevek….. which team has the record for the worst pass defense in the history of the NFL …in modern day football… Hint : it was last year and the first name is Tampa
September 12th, 2013 at 9:06 pm
Josh can teach Glennon how he got all those records. Thats what good back ups do. Josh will be a great back up for Glennon.
September 12th, 2013 at 9:16 pm
Other records Freeman holds:
Least amount of playoff games played – 0 (tied with many others)
Least amount of playoff games won – 0 (tied with many others)
First Buccaneer in history to have a players only team meeting called on his behalf to question his commitment
September 12th, 2013 at 9:27 pm
patriots look a lot like the bucs right now…. guess the jets d is for real!
September 12th, 2013 at 9:45 pm
Kingadroc. …yeah Brady is 7- 17 less than 50%
Hmmm ? Haters are so dumb 🙂
September 12th, 2013 at 9:49 pm
Kingadroc …Brady is 7 – 17. Less than 50 %. Hmmmm
Lol. At the dumb trolls here
September 12th, 2013 at 10:00 pm
Josh will Start here or somewhere else next year there is no scenario where he would hold a clip board for anyone, especially Mike Glennon.
September 12th, 2013 at 10:02 pm
Raphael Says:
September 12th, 2013 at 8:59 pm
“Stevek….. which team has the record for the worst pass defense in the history of the NFL …in modern day football… Hint : it was last year and the first name is Tampa”
FALSE!!!
September 12th, 2013 at 10:11 pm
“Josh Freeman Franchise records :
1 most yards in a season

3 Highest QB rating in a season. 95.6
4 Most 4 th qtr comebacks in a season
5 Least amount of ints in a season 6

Thank you for reminding us all how putrid the history of this franchise is, dick. An immature kid who still doesn’t know how to roll out of bed in time for team functions holds fanchise records.
Excuse me while I go slam my head into a wall repeatedly.
September 12th, 2013 at 10:17 pm
Gotbbucs …your an immature kid apparently and the pass defense statement is not false . The only team worse was the 1950 lions I think …..fact
And only by 40 yards .
September 12th, 2013 at 10:18 pm
Brady is around 48% right now at halftime vs the Jets @ NE.
September 12th, 2013 at 10:18 pm
Brady is less than 50 % completion ….lol. How dumb do the haters look now !
September 12th, 2013 at 10:19 pm
T Br-ady is around 48% right now at halftime vs the Jets @ NE.
September 12th, 2013 at 10:21 pm
Buc 1987. …lol The haters must see how dumb they really are now …
September 12th, 2013 at 10:28 pm
Br-ady gets a pass though right? Because he has the rings right? or next I’ll get some fool saying. Oh so now your saying Freeman is as good as Br-ady? Which is not what I’m saying at all. I’m saying why do we as fans continue to bash our QB when the Pat’s QB has aorinf the same completion % vs the Jets? He is the QB of YOUR team but yet fans and the media continue to pound him over the head with a sledgehammer daily. br-ady’s stats might stay like this the whole game tonight. If he gets asked the question by reporters. What happened out there? Whatever reason he gives is good enough for Pats fans. Because of rings? Tampa fans are just illogical sometimes. If Freeman were to give the same answer to the Tampa press they would make him out to look like a fool and so would the rest of the Josh bashers in here. Illogical.
September 12th, 2013 at 10:35 pm
Some of the bashers are just really dumb and immature ..that’s all ..they know nothing about football
September 12th, 2013 at 10:43 pm
Br-ady looks like garbage tonight vs the Jets. Bench him and trade for Glennon.
September 12th, 2013 at 10:48 pm
He must be gay or on coke….maybe he even goes out to a bar at night and has a drink ….and the coach doesn’t like him. ….lol
September 12th, 2013 at 11:03 pm
He’s working with rooks…some mis ommunication…and some of those passes have been on the money…i mean hello, its Brady.
But in Freeman’s defense, stone hands Ogletree had some passes right on him too.
September 12th, 2013 at 11:17 pm
tampa has never had an offensive team like it has now with the possible exception of the Super Bowl team… However, most would say honestly that position by position we are better on offense now than then. Not acknowledging the frustrating play that is Josh Freeman is folly. I was one of the people that felt this kid had the “magic” with the throws he made under pressure in the first two seasons. But to point out last season as anything other than troubling is not being honest. Comparing stats in NFL today vs any other time is just wrong. 11 qbs threw for more than 4000 yards last year, and we are close to the players running down the seam of the field being allowed to call a fair catch prior to contact being made.
Freeman is starting to develop Dilfer like flair for the bad throw at the wrong time. I hope he puts it together, but in my mind he needs to be crossing ts and dotting i’s to try to make sure that he is carrying his weight. It doesn’t seem that he is.
September 12th, 2013 at 11:26 pm
Fu ck tampa sell the team to reno nevada.
September 12th, 2013 at 11:30 pm
and this Tom Brady is struggling too so the Jets defense must be really good thing is a bit deceiving. I shudder to imagine if Vjax, Mike Williams and Doug Martin would have all been hurt, which is what Brady is having to deal with tonight. Realism is realism. …..Saying all this tho I am most concerned about Schiano and the staff that he has established. Toes on the line coaches have short shelf lives in the NFL without wins. If he doesn’t put it together ASAP this adventure could go South in a hurry and we will have a new coach and a new QB. That is a process I don’t want any part of . Heres to hoping for 4 td’s 300 yards of passing and 0 interceptions this Sunday…and the start of a win streak
September 13th, 2013 at 12:04 am
“Gotbbucs …your an immature kid apparently”
Ouch, you got me there, didn’t you, you NFL historian you.
FYI…Packers had a worse pass defense in 2011, a whopping one year prior.
September 13th, 2013 at 12:07 am
Freeman threw for more yards than Brady did against the Jets. Just saying
September 13th, 2013 at 12:09 am
Stop paying Stevek attention people he’s a moron to put it lightly.
September 13th, 2013 at 12:19 am
@Tnew
That’s basically it, right there.
September 13th, 2013 at 1:18 am
TNew..Through 2 games Br-ady is around 51% completion percentage. It does not matter how many weapons he’s lost according to the “experts” on here it’s a QB driven league, not a team sport. It’s all on Br-ady. Yeah sure they are 2-0 those same people(Freeman bashers) will tell it’s because of Br-ady and no one else on the team.As if the Pats D that got 3 picks had nothing to do with it. That it’s Freeman’s 0-1 record not the team’s 0-1 record and that Br-ady is 2-0 and not the Pats team that is 2-0. Pretty sad, but true.
September 13th, 2013 at 3:50 am
I was a freeman lover but I do have to say over the last 2 and a 1/2 years he looks to have regressed(we played shitty teams during that win streak last year) I hope freeman does turn it around and see the bright light I mean just look at that td pass to mike Williams last Sunday he made a all-pro throw between two defenders only a few in this league can make then the rest of the game he looks lost, uncomfortable , and like he isn’t in control I do think that schianos micro manage still has hurt freeman from turkey being able to do what he needs to do to be successful between forcing him to wear knee braces to not allowing him freedom at the oline or running which I truly beloeve schiano has ordered him to not do I honestly don’t care if they don’t like each other I dispise my boss but I still go to work and try my hardest and he should have the pride to do so as we’ll not miss a team photo and other isolated “incidents” that’s what troubled me he said isolated incidents not incident after schiano had just said its happened before as we’ll( freeman also denied before saying it was isolated incidents so idk if he isn’t 100% committed as much as I like the guy he has to go to be a true franchise QB you have to be committed and if not the draft is may 8-9-10 draft my boy AJ MCcarron
September 13th, 2013 at 4:23 am
So we’re down from 16, to 15, to 10 teams who are dying to have the 5 Year Rookie:
Cardinals (desperate)
Chiefs (ditto)
Raiders (there’s a ringing endorsement)
Jaguars (I can see that)
Titans (That too, but they’ll be picking high)
Vikings (likely)
Browns (sure)
Rams (Holding Bradford’s clipboard if he’s cheap enough)
Bears (Cutler >>>>>> Freeman)
Chargers (might be a good project for them in lieu of drafting)
September 13th, 2013 at 4:25 am
Brady would be out of control with MW and VJAX.
September 13th, 2013 at 8:09 am
Yeah , he looked great last night huh ?

Oahubuc Says:

“Brady would be out of control with MW and VJAX.”
Not with the plays Sully was dialing up against the Jets.
