Bucs With Freeman “Don’t Have A Shot”
September 25th, 2013Bucs rock star general manager was consulted by Bucs commander Greg Schiano, before the second-year Bucs coach made the call to bench franchise quarterback Josh Freeman for third round pick, rookie Mike Glennon.
That’s the information typed by Jim Corbett of USA Today.
In fact, Dominik noted that Freeman had regressed so terribly, he was a noose around the Bucs’ chances to win.
“The main thing for us was the performance of the team the last nine games was 1-8 and that’s tough,” Dominik told USA TODAY Sports Wednesday. “He hasn’t played well. That’s a part of it. If you don’t have a quarterback in this league, you don’t have a shot. We felt like we’d seen enough of what we needed to see.”
Freeman, who led the NFL in inaccuracy, at a galling 45 completion percentage, apparently had lost either the support or the trust in the locker room.
Dominik also noted in the article linked above that the rest of the season and Glennon’s play will give the Bucs an idea how to proceed at the position for the 2014 season.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:04 am
In related news, Freeman is sleeping through ALL of this right now!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:11 am
At least we didn’t do what the Jets did and give Freeman a big contract extension that would cost us big money, Sanchez’s cap hit is killing NY.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:12 am
Dominik is praying for Glennon to at least show something because if this season gets real ugly there is no way he can keep his job.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:12 am
This title has been obvious for a while now but I’m not gonna bash Josh anymore. I’ve got what I wanted. He is human and I’m sure this is killing him so no need to kick a guy when he’s down. GO BUCS!!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:15 am
@Couch, kick a guy when he’s down? Dude he’s been down all this time….who are you to preach? Screw him, he doesnt care about the Bucs!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:19 am
Dom’s first pick will likely cost him his job.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:23 am
The state of the Bucs cannot get much worse, so I support the move as a lifelong Bucs fan. I was a Freeman supporter, and I wish him well, but we have to see what the grass looks like on the other side. Welcome aboard Glennon.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:23 am
@MadMax
I was talking about myself… maybe you should read first before spewing stupidity?
And btw he has not been down. He has been our starter, he is not our starter anymore.. to me that is killing him and for me to insult him would be kicking him while he’s down.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:29 am
Who are the vet free agent QBs next year?
Who is coming out in the draft?
What can they get for Josh in a trade?
The team is ready to compete in the playoffs now… they need to figure this out FAST
September 25th, 2013 at 11:30 am
@Couch, accusing me of stupidity and kicking a man when he’s down after all of the bashing you did to Freeman after his horrible games? And YOU were calling for his head all this time??!!
If I fit your definition of stupid, you COMPLETELY fit my definition of a Bi-polar Maniac confused because he’s out of his medication (that bottle of “bash Josh” just RAN OUT) smdh F U!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:33 am
“At least we didn’t do what the Jets did and give Freeman a big contract extension that would cost us big money, Sanchez’s cap hit is killing NY.”
There were plenty of articles posted here during the off-season on the “experts” saying how wise it would be for the Bucs to lock up Freeman before his big contract year.
Hard to bash Dominik on this point.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:33 am
@MaxMax now you are just talking to hear yourself talk.
Let me break it down for you because clearly you are emotional right now.
Yes. I have been bashing Freeman all off-season this is true. What is also true is that I only bashed him for his on field play and all I wanted was for him to be benched.
Guess what? I got what I wanted so no more needing to bash him right? therefore I wont anymore.
Is that simple enough for you? Or are you to stupid to figure that one out?
September 25th, 2013 at 11:34 am
Agree with Dominik. We know what Josh Freeman did as the starting QB, and it wasn’t enough. Too inconsistent and lacked the “killer instinct” the top QB’s all have. Is Glennon the answer? I don’t know, but we at least have an opportunity to find out now. I’m sure his first couple games will be up and down too, but we need to find out if he is the long term answer, or if we need to draft or acquire another QB moving forward. Good luck Mike, Buc Nation is rooting for you!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:34 am
I’m pretty pumped, I gotta say.
Progress. Even if Glennon is NOT the guy. Even if he goes out and tanks it. Sometimes, a step back is needed for a huge leap ahead.
Anything but stagnation, and that’s how it felt recently.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:36 am
Ok joe I just want to look forward lets have a fun debate on which qb to draft next year.. all this other talk is to depressing….
September 25th, 2013 at 11:37 am
BD’s show with Joe today just got a WHOLE lot more interesting. LOL
Can’t wait to hear BD cry like a b!tch!!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:37 am
Dont worry if I have you figured out or not couch…..just wait for your next prescription….still smdh!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:39 am
I don’t feel bad for a qb who’s making 10 mm to suck and sit the bench.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:39 am
Funny how those of us who weren’t JFro lovers were labeled as haters, but now a lot of people want to already talk about next years draft. That isn’t being very supportive of our current starting QB, so I guess those people are “haters” now.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:42 am
So let me get this straight Max, I dont want to bash Josh anymore because I got what I wanted… so that makes me bi-polar?
Keep sippin on that cough medicine buddy.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:42 am
Trade him to Washington for Cousins. Probably have to throw in some picks, but I think it’d be worth it. I dont’ think Glennon is ready, especially with our schedule this year. Cousins wants to play and win, and has proven leadership abilities.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:45 am
You can keep your bottle couch, I do NOT want a swig….like I said though, you’ll get another prescription soon enough to keep your bi-polar oddities in check 😉
September 25th, 2013 at 11:47 am
Ohh now I see you have left opinions and debating behind to persue the insulting route. LMAO
I will take that as your acceptance of defeat. Your forgiven.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:49 am
lightningbuc agreed
September 25th, 2013 at 11:52 am
Is it 5 yet? I am dying to hear BD cry for us and tell us how awful Schiano is and what an absolutely horrendous move this is for the franchise and fan base. I’m sure he’ll make things up as well such as the captains never agreed to this blah blah blah.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:52 am
Must have been hard for Dominick to publicly come out and address the issue but I think it’s the correct move and the reason he offered was about the same I posted earlier. But I respect that, for me, he did it for the greater good of the organisation.
Now that Schiano have its QB in place (the one that didn’t chose him while he was at Rutgers), let see if he can generate some offense with him. If it’s a failure, then we need to address Schiano “toes on the line” situation. Do we want to keep going on with an unproven coach that most player dislikes (which may cost us some free agency players that just won’t tolerate begin treated like some McDonalds clerk) and that just don’t know that he have an elite corner sitting in the flat, that play to lose in all close games and that ran out of town some pretty good players?
For me Schiano is not the answer and I think its hire was in reaction to the extreme sloppyness of the Morris era. A coach somewhere in the middle would be better appropriate. I would love Lovie Smith as he knows what winning was all about in Tampa but I would be open to other choices like Bill Cower, Jay Gruden, Mike Zimmer…
September 25th, 2013 at 11:54 am
Defeat? On an online forum? You’re seeking and embracing that as an accomplishment here?
Another Bi-polar trait shining through, with maybe some other underlining mental issues…
Didnt you see my F U earlier? lol, man you got serious issues….but whatever….carry on…..
September 25th, 2013 at 11:54 am
Couch,
Phase 1 is now complete. We both got what we want. Phase 2 is getting Freeman cut or traded because he will never take another Buc snap. Phase 3 is concurrent and that’s the success of the Schiano/Glennon show. Boy every week, we’re going to have a lot to talk about. I’ll be lurking for you. Lol.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:55 am
Couch,
What’s funny, it it appears this move may have come down from the Glazers. Even so, the usual goobers will still say Schiano should have developed him better.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:56 am
@ Splengo
I only cared about phase 1, feel free to continue without me as I dont really care what happens to Free after this point as long as he isn’t on the field as a Buccaneer.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:56 am
@Couch
BD will of course rant and rave and spew hatred of Schiano. Joe will of course agree.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:57 am
@Lightening
Agreed. Fingers will still point at everyone else except Freeman. I’m gonna sit back and laugh and if Glennon lights it up… that will just be even more hilarious because you know the freemanite’s heads will explode.
September 25th, 2013 at 11:58 am
Hey Joe – please go find Shawn King for a post about how this move to Glennon is wrong and how “now” is the perfect time to lock up Freeman to a cheep long term contract!
September 25th, 2013 at 11:59 am
Speaking of BD, does the Josh Freeman Show continue, or switch to the Mike Glennon Show on Tuesdays
September 25th, 2013 at 11:59 am
@Free’s a boob
I have no doubts, It will be entertaining to say the least!
September 25th, 2013 at 12:00 pm
Phase 1 of The New Schiano Takeover is complete.
1) Take Out Freeman – check
2) Take out Sully, Promote McNulty –
3) Undermine and Take Out Dominik –
4) Assume the Role of HC & GM like Belicheat –
PJ Fleck (former assistant):
“He had a hand in every aspect of that program. He wasn’t just the football coach, he was everything. He was the marketing director. He was the fundraiser. He was the recruiting coordinator. Greg could do anything. He did do everything.”
September 25th, 2013 at 12:02 pm
@Max
Poor guy. Emotional and irrational. Listen, I dont even know why your angry at me. Just because I choose to stop bashing on Freewee?
I’m not stopping you from bashing him so bash until your heart is content… But get off my nuts now.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:02 pm
Good point lightning. Considering Schiano said on Monday that Freeman is our starter does insinuate that the decision may not have been Schiano’s alone. However Joe thinks that it is Schianos decision if I understood the post correctly. With that said, this is the right move. Freeman has already shot his load and what you see is what you get. Putting Glennon in now gives the organization an opportunity to see what they have and determine whether or not it is necessary to invest heavily in next years draft on the QB position. Schiano and Belichick are buddies. Belichick now has Blount and Talib. I remain hopeful that Mallett could be had for a reasonable trade. Mallett is ready.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:05 pm
Rah had a man crush on Josh, maybe the Redskins will take him. give a 1st rounder for Cousins and throw josh in?
September 25th, 2013 at 12:05 pm
@Glennon, go out and get us your first win on Sunday! You dont have to carry this team, just stay consistent. Youre our new QB, and I’ll support you 100%
September 25th, 2013 at 12:06 pm
The “rock head” should have brought in a qualified quarterback to back up Freeman in case he imploded…Freeman’s mo is that he is not consistent, so what not protect the franchise, especially with all that was invested with a QUALITY back up that can come in and at least give the Buc’s a legitimate chance to win this year…
Why isn’t he held accountable for the failure of this organization. Constant blown high draft picks and a failure to being in quality depth squarely on his shoulders…
I hope he looses his job along with Schiano and Freeman…
September 25th, 2013 at 12:06 pm
who ever our QB is… GO BUCS!!!!!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 12:08 pm
Keep biting at my ankles couch….like I said, F U and carry on in your win less defeat, lol…. (but since you keep jumping for my nuts, I’ll throw you a little treat… learn the difference between you’re and your).
September 25th, 2013 at 12:11 pm
Oh now he’s turned into a grammar nazi. I guess that’s what losers do when they’re argument is absurd and there childish insults are ignored…
It’ll be ok buddy.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:12 pm
Couch,
Sorry can’t let you off that easy. Remember, even though you don’t mind if Schiano stays, you also don’t mind if he’s fired as long as Freeman is gone. We’ll Freeman is as good as gone and I’m looking forward to celebrating Schiano’s firing with you. We are tied at the hip until one or the other happens. Be seeing ya, Couchie! Lol
September 25th, 2013 at 12:13 pm
Sorry, but its hard to ignore when you’re attempting a petty “claim at defeat”….glad you appreciated that little nugget I threw you 😉
September 25th, 2013 at 12:15 pm
“Dominik also noted in the article linked above that the rest of the season and Glennon’s play will give the Bucs an idea how to proceed at the position for the 2014 season.”
____________________________________________________________
apparently Glennon, you not only control your own destiny, but Schiano’s as well. just F’n win!
September 25th, 2013 at 12:17 pm
“but its hard”
Mad Max, you can’t be a grammar nazi if you don’t know you should have used “it’s”
September 25th, 2013 at 12:20 pm
@Splengo
LMAO I see what your doing buddy. Not going to work but hey if Schiano is fired, so be it. I’ll be rooting for the next guy… not sure though why we are looking to fire someone right now.
If let’s say all of yous that are wrong and Glennon lights it up, will you still want Schiano gone? Lol
September 25th, 2013 at 12:20 pm
I like to trade him and some picks to the pats for Mallet or try and get Cousins.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:21 pm
Sorry lightning, lol, I usually dont do commas….and Im not a grammar nazi, just messing with sasquatch er sascouch since he wont stop biting at my ankles 😉
September 25th, 2013 at 12:22 pm
Sorry, but its hard to ignore when you’re attempting a petty “claim at defeat”….glad you appreciated that little nugget I threw you 😉
———————————
So in other words, yo acknowledge your defeat and do not want to give up yet?
September 25th, 2013 at 12:23 pm
Well… I was on the free bandwagon till the bitter end but now it’s Time to move on. I will now support glennon as much as I have ever supported free now that he is our starting qb. Still disappointed that it didn’t work out
September 25th, 2013 at 12:26 pm
Hahaha, what is it with this “defeat” you want to have so badly?
Do you go to Buc Home Games? If so, I’ll come down sometime, you let me know where to meet you….and then we’ll define “defeat” together 😉
September 25th, 2013 at 12:26 pm
@Couchfan
I am of the same mindset. I don’t have any remorse or sympathy for Freeman. He has a lot of growing up to do and it will not be in Tampa.
I just don’t want them to ruin Glennon and all he need to do is manage the game and not turn over the ball until the game slows down for him.
Also I want to point out that Dominik can’t separate from this team like he did rah rah – when we were winning in 2010 Dominik was all in the media and when we started losing you just see him in the press box with his binoculars! He’s next and find a way to get a real front office in here.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:28 pm
I’ll support anyone at QB. Was just hoping that Josh would capitalize on the situation. I hope Sully play calling improve, because they will bring the house now. He don’t have use his long developing plays with Glennon, since he is more accurate one short passes. 3 step drop that’s all I ask..
September 25th, 2013 at 12:30 pm
Couch,
Have fun at work. To be sure, I am a Buc fan first and I will pull for Glennon to win every time. He’s an innocent pawn in this chess game, but make no mistake about it, I want Schiano gone. So I got mixed emotions. But have a good day!
September 25th, 2013 at 12:31 pm
Being in Jacksonville area and been a long time buc fan, I think its time to follow the Jags now. Although inferior talent, the coach doesnt double talk like Schiano
September 25th, 2013 at 12:31 pm
@Architek
Agreed. I have lost a lot of respect for Dom because of his disappearing act. BUT, in his defense looking back at the situation now.. it was probably best he stay in hiding. Still would of been nice to hear something from him to at least attempt to calm the firestorm thats been on us for about 3 weeks now.
As far as Freeman I agree there to. I feel nothing for him as this is all his own doing. But I do not hate him nor wish any bad on him, if he goes on to another team and wins a super bowl, good for him. But it’s just not working out here… and there is no reason to continue to bash him needlessly when he’s not even starting anymore.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:31 pm
Bingo….now thats some Buc Fans….suPPort Glennon! Man I hope he lights it up!
September 25th, 2013 at 12:32 pm
Super Bowl!!! Brady took over at 0-2 and won the Super Bowl.
Lets go Glennon!!
RIP #5. YOU SUCK.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:33 pm
Hahaha, what is it with this “defeat” you want to have so badly?
Do you go to Buc Home Games? If so, I’ll come down sometime, you let me know where to meet you….and then we’ll define “defeat” together 😉
————————————–
You mean the defeat you keep acknowledging? It’s ok MadMaxiPad, everyone loses sometimes. Just suck it up and move on to the next one buddy.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:35 pm
@Splengo
It’s all good. You are entitled to your opinion. We’ll see how it all unfolds. Have a good day man.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:37 pm
Riiiiiighttt!! Ignore that one! 😉
Ive lost in your mind…ok whatever sasquatchcouch, you keep wanting to win whatever it is you call winning and keep asking me to move on….Riiiiiightttt! Again! Oh, you won…Riiiiightttt!….lol, fn nerd!
September 25th, 2013 at 12:39 pm
Couch,
Here to take my medicine! You guys all saw the lack of fire in Freeman that I’m just now seeing. The most successful QBs have that burning desire to do well and that is what is really missing from Freeman. Not sure if it’s the money or he’s just over it here in Tampa, but the dude just has no FIRE. Give me a QB like Favre or Manning who eat, drink & live football and I’ll be happy with the effort at least.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:42 pm
Retiring my ankles for a bit couch…. so you can stop trying to bite at them. MadMax needs his sleep….
September 25th, 2013 at 12:44 pm
@MaxiPad
I know how hard it is to accept a loss. It’ll get easier in time buddy. Keep your chin up. We will get you through this together! Glennon will reunite the fan base!! GO BUCS!!
September 25th, 2013 at 12:46 pm
@Bucnjim
I know most wont believe this but I wanted Freeman to succeed but my eyes told me a different story. It’s all good, as Buc Fans we’ve been through many many QBs. I’m hopeful for the next one until he proves he is inept to. I got a good feeling about Glennon though. We shall see!
September 25th, 2013 at 12:47 pm
Stop saying I lost anything to you already….good grief man, I havent lost a thing to you….did my little bi-polar insult really damage you that badly? Man, I’ll have to remember that one since it apparently did, ROFLMAO!!!!!!
September 25th, 2013 at 12:55 pm
Aww now you are sensitive to the loss. Like I said buddy, we’ll get through this together!! Us Buc Fans will do whatever we can to comfort you in your moment of grief.
Keep your head up Maxi.
September 25th, 2013 at 12:58 pm
I like crazy Fk ed up people like you couch….at least I know what Im dealing with…(Folks, we have a winner) smh@bipolar crazies hahahaha.
September 25th, 2013 at 1:00 pm
Even though I’ve never played football or any sport professionally; it’s very sad to see talented players without heart. It’s something you can’t teach and I’m sure it drives coaches crazy at every single level. There seems to be no heart left in Freeman, but the question is was there ever. I wish that weren’t the case, but watching closely I don’t see any other answer.
September 25th, 2013 at 1:00 pm
LOL
September 25th, 2013 at 1:02 pm
@Bucnjim
I’m not convinced Freeman has no heart. I dont think you can make it to the NFL with no heart. I could be wrong and who knows, I just dont think Freeman is or was ever good. Talent and potential is all matter of opinion. Freeman may of never had talent or potential. Yes he makes a few nice throws here and there but you can say that about any QB in the history of the game. Even horrible players have there moments.
September 25th, 2013 at 1:04 pm
Lets just F’n win this Sunday! Go Bucs!!!
“You don’t have to love your Head Coach to be a good fan (or player). You just have to love your TEAM!”

September 25th, 2013 at 1:08 pm
@ Dave
Playoffs????!!!! You kidding me???? Playoffs???!!!! I just hope we can win a game!
September 25th, 2013 at 1:11 pm
This should not be a shock to anyone. Every media site Knew it. It was just a question of how soon. EG said it would happen. Anyone who did not know they drafted Glennon to replace Freeman was just in denial. Don’t think when Freeman did not get his contract and they drafted Glennon did not know he was done with the Bucs. The second he was not voted captain he knew for sure.
Now the next problem. Glennon may lead us down the field but, does the same old thing happen that has happened for the past few years. 3 not 7.
Now look on the bright side. At least we don’t have a Rutgers QB. Yet!
September 25th, 2013 at 1:22 pm
Couch,
To me it was more of his mind set. You can have a weak arm (NFL standards) and still be an affective NFL QB because of your IQ & mental toughness. Too many times I’ve seen strong arm guys who are not as smart and or mentally weak to handle the pressure of the NFL game. Drew Brees never had that cannon arm, but he’s scrappy and has a very high football IQ. Almost like how bad do you really want it.
September 25th, 2013 at 1:37 pm
Very good point and it may very well be the truth. Not everybody has the brains to play this game.
September 25th, 2013 at 2:25 pm
We hired Coach Schiano to remake our Team. He has vastly improved the defense, and now he is trying to improve our offense by ridding us of Freeman.
Mike Glennon is gonna shock some people, once he gets the chance to play.
He is an emotional leader, with a cannon of an arm, with touch and accuracy, when he is at his best.
He is also a very very smart man, with 2 college degrees.
And, he also has a very pretty girlfriend, not that it matters.
Our receivers will think they died and went to heaven, with Glennon throwing to them, instead of Josh The Wild Man Freeman.
September 25th, 2013 at 2:37 pm
The biggest stain on Mark Dominick’s tenure as Bucs GM…….drafting a bust quarterback in the 1st round. He’s done as our GM.
September 25th, 2013 at 5:29 pm

September 25th, 2013 at 7:05 pm
I guess I’m one of the few that is in Schiano’s corner. Changing the culture takes time and Schiano was mainly brought in to get us discipline and defense. The defense has been responding and obviously the discipline is a problem. With that said, all I can think of is how unpopular Belichick was in Cleveland. You see how that story unfolded.
September 25th, 2013 at 9:19 pm
It’s somber day for Bucs fans, the once glimmer of hope of finally having a franchise QB is down the drain. I have been a Freeman fan and will continue to be where ever he ends up. It’s funny because I wasn’t all for the drafting of Freeman at the time, I wanted the bucs to take Harvin. I was skeptical, like I am about most rookie QB’s, but none of his scouting reports were amazing or made a person think he was a can’t miss franchise QB, if there ever is such a thing. Then 2010 came and it was a vision of this proud franchise that had finally found what we lacked for so long, it could of been argued that Freeman after 2010 was the best QB of the class and had a better start to his career than the 1st overall pick in Stafford.
Even last year was up and down, but he still set franchise records for yards and TD’s, While clearly his time in Tampa is over, still a sad day for me and should be BUCS fans, knowing that our franchise QB is still out there. I’m sorry but I have my reservations about Glennon, if the team is plagued by the same inconsistency and penalties, it will get ugly very fast. I will cheer him on and hope for the best.
Feels like Schiano/Freeman marriage was doomed from the start, we needed an experienced offensive minded coach, who could of brought in a good QB coach, to help piece back together the mess from 2011, his shattered confidence. I’m not sure what lies ahead for Freeman, but hope he does well. Who knows could be Williams, Dilfer, Young and win a super bowl. Not sure where the bucs go from here, problem is this team is built to win now, if the season implodes as many predict it will then what? Draft a QB and wait 2-3 years?? By that time our salary cap will be a mess, VJax, Joseph, possibly Goldson and Revis could very well be gone by then. I’m just scared the Glazers will back off their aggressive approach and go back to not spending any money or being able to bring in an FA’s. This move, I feel will blow up in their face and set our franchise back 3-5 years. I’m eternally optimistic, but realistic at the same time. I will cheer the same whether it’s 2-14 or 14-2.
Please stop comparing Schiano to Belichick, does anyone honestly think he would still be coaching if they didn’t fluke into Tom Brady. 38 seasons as a franchise, MG will be the 33rd starting QB (not counting 1987 strike season). NONE have made it to 2nd contract as per Joey Johnston TBO.
I hope all the fans who wanted this change, realize the magnitude of it. I guess I’m just not ready to move on from the idea we defiantly don’t have a franchise QB, but that is the reality of it. I miss Freeman and wish him all the best, I enjoyed watching you play and lead game winning drives, I really hoped you were the answer to the 38 year old search. All we can hope for going forward is the veteran players don’t totally turn on the coach and Glennon plays decent and give us a chance to win.
Sad day, go Bucs………………
