Bucs Thinner At Cornerback; Adams Has Surgery

Bucs veteran cornerback Michael Adams, an impressive Tampa Bay newcomer in preseason, went under the knife after injuring his knee against on Sunday.
Adams put out a note about having surgery in Miami via his Twitter account.
Rookie cornerback Rashaan Melvin has a bad hamstring. And before those injuries, Greg Schiano acknowledged the Bucs couldn’t afford another setback at cornerback in the wake of Danny Gorrer groin surgery after he picked off Joe Flacco during preseason.
Cross your fingers that Darrelle Revis stays healthy.
Update: 3:32 p.m.: Greg Schiano said Adams is expected back this season after the break. Joe presumes Schiano was referring to Week 6, after the Bucs bye in Week 5.

It’s a shame that not one of Mark Dominick’s draft picks at the corner position has worked out. Not one. And you want to defend his ability to pick talent?

Who has Dom drafted at CB? I cant think of one guy except Banks. May be a bad sign lol cant believe im saying this, but Gorrer is gonna be a sight for sore eyes in a few weeks

Who exactly hasn’t panned out (besides MyLew)? One bad CB pick does not account for all picks being bad. All other CBs were late round picks (besides J. Banks who hasn’t proved anything yet, good or bad). Check your facts son.

EJ Biggers, Myron Lewis, Anthony Gaitor, Keith Tandy… Not to mention the failure of Eric Wright as an FA acquisition.
Not one panned out as a serviceable starter. Not ONE.
And when Dominik has the opportunity to use the #7 pick on a CB, he takes a safety.

My facts will always be straight, SteveBucsFan. When you have the facts you don’t have to resort to name calling and if you read any post I make I will ALWAYS be able to back up what I say.
A good GM would build some depth. A good GM makes his bones late in the draft. He has LOST 3 starters at CB and never replaced them. Ronde retired. Wright’s gone, Talib is gone.
Leonard Johnson is the Bucs starter and he is defensive cancer. Banks needs to study extra hard and get on the field.

The guys on the practice squad will get promoted. Carr, Anthony etc. No other options right now, at least they have been practicing in the system.

yep but this is why you bring in the best talent available and let it all play out…this guy came to us late anyway. i never thought i’d say it but i want danny gorrer back, he’s so much better than leonard….hope revis is doing wind sprints this week he can afford to come out of the game because of fatigue with drew brees in town

Nicks declared himself MRSA free and practiced this week on a limited basis. if he starts this week that will go along way to fixing our running game and offensive line in general. hopeful he starts.

No name calling buddy. Calm down.
By my accounts EJ did his job and did it well. He got picked up quick in free agency (but by Raheem). The rest do fill out the roster and provide their services on special teams. They are still on the team. That isn’t bad for CBs who were drafted in the 6th round or later (besides MyLew I agree he sucks).
What do you want from a 6th or 7th round pick? I don’t know about you but I expect 6th and 7th rounders to hopefully pan out as depth. Only on rare occasions do they become Superstars or starters.
And Leonard Johnson does have ability. And he can learn, especially from Revis. And if I recall Johnson was a UDFA. Which was a great pick up for Dom.
He didn’t replace those three? I think Mike Adams replaced Barber. Banks replaced Talib and the crap he took yesterday replaced Wright.
Not everything can be perfect buddy. I’m sure your fantasy football team is doing great. I bet they have good depth. I know you planned every situation out. You must be the Best GM In the World. Don’t worry I’m sure if Dom gets fired you are first on the list to replace him. Because, you know, you are a perfect GM.

Here, Here … Adam for GM … The dude’s gotta crystal ball or something.. I don’t know how he does but he can predict the future. Adam for GM. He’ll never miss on a draft pick. He is well “Perfect” all the time. He is the master of all master GM’s. He alone can conquer what not one GM has been able to do since the inception of the league. That’s get everything perfectly right.

You are right, Dominik is a fool for not being able to turn late round corners into the next Darrelle Revis. I really wonder how some people are able to function in this world.
And if you didn’t know, cornerbacks don’t cover TE’s. And if you didn’t realize, our division is full of great Tight Ends. Besides, do you still wish we had drafted Claiborne? What exactly has he done in Dallas besides miss tackles and get injured? Perhaps you should ask a Cowboys fan what they think of him so far. But I’m sure you think he’s great, simply because we didn’t get him.

EJ walked… Dominik made no effort to sign him and the only person who picked him up was his old coach who went from POSITION COACH (a double-demotion).
What do I expect from a 6-7 round pick? Not much. But guess what? That’s ALL THAT DOMINIK HAS ALLOCATED TO STRENGTHENING THE CORNERS ON THE BUCS. I would expect more of a 1st or 2nd round pick, but this is the first year he’s actually TAKEN one in the 1st or 2nd round…. and when he HAD the chance, he reached and took a safety wasting a pick.
So the Bucs are stuck with Leonard Johnson and his On-the-Job training which is going to be HARSH because he’s only playing across from the best active CB in the league.
And Mike Adams? All 5’6″ of him? He’s Ronde’s replacement? That’s who the Bucs replace a Hall of Famer with? If Dominik would have picked Claiborne instead of Barron, Claiborne could have learned the CB position behind Ronde. Your safeties could be Golson and maybe Ahmad Black. Now you have Revis, Banks, and Claiborne as your CBs.
And as much as I appreciate the sarcasm, my job isn’t to pick players. I’ll say this: if I did my job as bad as Dominik has done HIS job, I’d be fired and out of the business.

I took a look at his stats and Claiborne played 15 games last year and he played against the NYG last week. He had a pick and a forced fumble. I don’ t think that’s bad for a rookie.
Am I expecting a late round pick to become Darrell Revis? No, of course not. But when you’re continually taking shots at trying to find a corner and NONE of them are panning out, whose fault is that? Despite NUMEROUS issues with CB depth and/or play on this team, Dominik NEVER invested a high pick in a corner. His answer to those problems were Eric Wright. I was never a Talib fan, but he walked and there’s was no one behind him.
And speaking of TEs, isn’t it odd that the Bucs don’t have one? The whole league is clammoring for athletic TEs but the Bucs? NAH … we don’t need one. By the way, Dominik traded UP for Luke Stocker. How’s that working out?
And I’ll reiterate: No, I’m NOT a GM. But I see what the GM is doing. You want to DEFEND what Dominik has done? You want to DEFEND this roster? Good luck with that. You have no leg to stand on.

So let me get this straight. So last year you wanted the great Claiborne to learn from Ronde at CB, then have Black and GOLDSON at safety? Let me check the facts, but I’m pretty sure Goldson was in SF that year. Assuming that you are just an idiot and don’t understand the concept of time, who would have played safety and covered the likes of Gonzalez and Jimmy Graham? Ahmad Black? That would have worked out perfectly I’m sure. Let me repeat myself one more time: CB’s don’t cover TE’s. That is done by either safeties or LB’s (mostly safeties in our blitz happy defense).
And if you do have Revis, Banks, and Claiborne as your corners, who is going to play the slot? You do realize that none of them are true slot corners right? I know, you are still trying to figure out the whole time thing. I’ll give you some time. Don’t want to blow your mind.

That right there is the problem- you looked at the stats. Have you ever seen him play? Did you realize that he got burned last year like my wife’s pot roast? Did you realize that he can’t tackle Dexter Jackson? And no, he did not have a pick nor a forced fumble against the Giants last week. Re-check those stats. Demarcus Ware had a pick (as did damn near everyone else on the defense), but Morris sure didn’t. He had 1 pick and 1 forced fumble ALL of last year!!!! You still think he’s great? He only had 8 passes defended all season!!! That’s one every 2 games. Hell, EJ Biggers had 7 and a pick! Yeah, we should have picked him at #5, then our problems would have been solved.

Adams is a very vesatile player and can play the slot. Ronde’s forte. So yes he was brought in to play the versatile Rhonde role. Also, in what world would we have picked Banks this year IF we drafted Claiborne last year. Those must be those excellent GM skills you have.
Yes I do want to defend this roster! You know why? Because I am a buccaneers FAN and I want to beleive in my team! Name me another team, that on paper, has more quality on it (besides 49ers). And whose job is it to make a team look good on paper? The GM’s (I’m sure you knew that since you are the world’s greatest). Whose job is to make that team look good on the field? The coaches.
The blame lies with Schiano or Sullivan. Defense looked better but the offense was bad.

Those three positions were drafted at VERY different times. Not a very thought out question. Its like asking would you rather have Luck, Glennon or Adam Weber. Do you see how its stupid? Or is that those GM skills at work?
BTW quotin stats from a player that you probably really haven’t seen play makes you sound like that girl from the video posted earlier. You know who else had great stats? Barrett Rudd. Where is he?

Wow, you should have just stayed away if that’s the best you got. As for just looking at the stats, here’s a thought, you could actually watch them play. The Cowgirls have been known to be on TV a time or two you know. And if those stats impressed you (which apparently they did), then you are pretty easy.

i assume the thought process was to roll over as much free cap space to the next year to pay all of the past and future pro bowlers we have assembled, but you look at some of the veteran DEs and CBs who took 1 year deals this summer and you can’t help but think they would be an asset to the team as young players like bowers fail to pan out or the injury bug starts to do its thing. heck, they could’ve started by urging barber to come back instead of secretly hoping he retires

It’s real easy for fans to say we should have not taken this guy, but real difficult to find a reasonable alternative. Say what you want about Barron, but he has (so far) been every bit as good of a pick as Claiborne. Neither has lived up to their status yet, but I would much rather have Barron. Way more upside than the non-tackling Claiborne.
True story, I did a gig for the Pro Bowl the year before that draft. Got to chat with Patrick Peterson (super nice guy BTW). I mentioned us getting Claiborne, and I could tell from his reaction that he wasn’t that high on him (they went to LSU together for those that don’t know). Although he said he was a good corner, you could just tell from his reaction that something wasn’t right. All the issues that were talked about before the draft have come true with him, most notably his non-ability/ willingness to tackle. Good luck with that playing under Monte.

E. J. Biggers sucked like a Hoover. Leonard sucks like a black hole. To technically Biggers is better..but he still sucks.
Note to fans complaining about depth…
…a Good GM builds depth AFTER he builds the team with starters. He only completed that this year and is just getting started on the depth.
We had SEVEN CBs! We had depth at the position. Injuries have decimated the position. You think they didn’t plan to have someone better than Leonard Johnson as depth???

If Barron isn’t Ed Reed, the pick was a reach. The #7pick has no choice but to be a game changer and a rookie torched the Bucs last week.
And Steve. Just BEING A FAN isn’t a successful defense of this roster. Show me the wins. Show me GROWTH. “Hope” isn’t a game plan. “Hope” isn’t preparation. Scott Pioli had one more win that Dominik, a slew of pro bowlers and he got fired.

Barron sealed a victory already (last year at Atlanta, and had another late breakup against Carolina). I don’t get your logic one bit, but it is pretty funny.
I wasn’t aware we were “torched” by Geno Smith. Exactly how many points did the score? I guess I overlooked the stats where he was leading the league in all the passing statistics. With every reply you make yourself look more and more foolish. But please keep it up, I’m enjoying a good laugh on an otherwise horrible week.

Mason Robinson is eager and waiting to be called back to offer his DB talent. He did great in preseason including an interception thrown by Tebow. He’s fast, 40 Proday time 4.35; NJ State Champ 100m time 10.51. He also played RB, WR and Punt/kick off returner at Rutgers. He would be a hugh asset to Tampa Bay Buc’s.
