Bucs Release Peyton Hillis

September 21st, 2013

peyton hillis

On the day prior to playing Bill Belicheat and the New England Patriots, the Bucs released running back Peyton Hills, per Jenna Laine of SportsTalkFlorida.com.

Hillis had yet to take a handoff this season. With Doug Martin the workhorse and Erik Lorig back in action, Hillis, apparently, became expendable.

This just increases, in Joe’s eyes, the need to keep Martin on a pitch count. If Martin goes down or gets burned out, this team is in a world of trouble.

Any word on if this has anything to do with Demps???

  2. BucsFanInChina Says:

BTW Peace out. I hope Hillis eventually finds himself in a situation where he will be able to stay healthy for more than a few carries and can revitalize his career. Dude is just a upright running target asking to get creamed.

  3. DallasBuc Says:

Should Martin go down I am certain the greatness that is Kregg Lumpkin is available!

  4. Kryq Says:

    Jeff Demps? Hopefully.

  5. MadMax Says:

Lorig is back! (Thank you Mr. Lorig)….and we have Leonard.

I wish Hillis the best in his Journey. Hopefully he finds work.

  6. MR.T Says:

he’ll get picked up by someone else who is desperate for a runner. Lets hope for sure that Doug stays healthy. Like others have noted this may be in regards to Demps, we’ll see.

  7. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

He never really got a chance here, since we have Martin.
Backs like Hillis and Blount are at their best the more they run.
Sadly for Hillis, that was not the situation, here in Tampa.

  8. Splengo Says:

Got nothing to do with Demps. Promoted TE Danny Noble from the practice squad.

  9. lightningbuc Says:

It’s a shame the Bucs couldn’t give Hillis 5 years to try and develop like they have with JFro.

  10. Mike J Says:

Hate to say it, but methinks Hillis still has a bit of prima donna outlook. No interest in doubling as a FB or in playing teams;hence, less valuable.

  11. clafollett Says:

Hillis is no Lorig when it comes to creating holes and not sure hr is all that as a runner. I am so glad Lofig is back. Not many brought up his blocking skills last year. He is a large reason why Martin was so successful last year and last week. I hope they can keep it going again tomorrow too. We need Doug to have another good day.

    GO BUCS!

  12. Borz Says:

    Noble

  13. Eternally Optimistic Homer Says:

Wish they had added John Conner.

  14. Adam Says:

I had high hopes for Hillis and had dreams of a thunder-and-lightning backfield w/ him and Martin.

But that would be good planning and make too much sense for Mark Dominik.

  15. MR.T Says:

This whole TE situation is a joke. It could have been avoided with a little intelligent planning Hopefully they will draft a good one next year.

  16. deathaneers Says:

I would rather see Hillis at Tight end than Noble.

  17. Paul Says:

Muscle Hamster is going to get 500 carries this year lol.

  18. Patrick Says:

Never even gave the guy a chance.

  19. DHutch Says:

I think this has more to do with Demps than anything. Bucs won’t keep five TE’s on the roster.

  20. deathaneers Says:

Good point Patrick. I would have liked to see him run once in a game. That was just a wasted roster spot in my mind.

    Patrick Says
“Never even gave the guy a chance”

It could be said he didn’t earn the chance.

CUTTING HILLIS WAS A MAJOR MISTAKE…I WOULD RATHER HAVE HILLIS THAN LEONARD…IF HILLIS WAS OUR FEATURE BACK (PER SAY) HE WOULD RUSH FOR 1200 YARDS….CRAZY MOVE HERE…CUT ANYONE – NOT HILLIS…ADAM FROM NY
