Bucs Top NFL In Sacks; Schiano Cites “Re-Clutch”
September 17th, 2013How bout that ferocious, exotic Bucs pass rush! Your Buccaneers lead the NFL with nine sacks. Nine!
The Cowboys and Redskins are tied for second best with seven sacks each.
Greg Schiano credited his revamped secondary. Speaking on The Greg Schiano Show last night the leader of the New Schiano Order said coverage is improved and the evidence is in the film. Drew Brees had to “re-clutch” multiple times, Schiano said.
Much of the rush is the result of blitzes and stunts. Six of the sacks are from linebackers. Gerald McCoy showed mighty get-off sacking Brees off a direct explosion Sunday, Adrian Clayborn’s sack-fumble against the Saints was nullified by his personal foul though the sack stayed on the books. Daniel Te’o-Neshiem recorded a sack against the Jets.
Don’t look for the Bucs to use much traditional pass rush tactics anytime soon, especially with the results they’re getting.

The results leading to 0-2.

Not cuz of the defense Scotty

Whaddaya know, better secondary = more time for the rush to reach the QB. Interesting.

They also lead the league in stupid penalties, have a head coach that no one respects and a QB that has layed down this season
Bucs are the laughing stock of the league, 1-15 when all said and done..

OK….lets give Schiano credit here….we have a tenacious defense that can create pressure. There is no question that our coverage is better helping our pass rush. I think our linebacker corps has played great also.
We need to lower our strike zone but continue to hit hard.
Goldson’s suspension will give us an indication of what may happen to us in case of a key injury.
Goldson’s 30K fine is minor compared to the $500K lost pay for missing a game. He has got to know if he does it again anytime soon he will probably face a 4 game suspension.
Who’s up next with the big illegal hit…..Keith Tandy?

We need to draft Clowney, if he is there, or a genuine pass rusher. Continue to snatch up pass rush. You can’t get enough in today’s game.
Imagine having a D-line that could organically create it’s own pass rush without needing to blitz?

Let’s give credit where credit is due. Last year, Schiano, produced the NFL’s #1 rush defense. Now with some talent in the secondary, we already are leading the NFL in sacks. I know everyone seems down on this team because the negative buzz has such a draw, but I see that we are a few small changes away from being dominant.

Yep…should be 10 with ACs legit sack fumble that was wrongly taken away. This league is trying to take the physicality out of the game. They don’t come right out and say it but that is the objective.
ACs sack was not taken away off the record books. Joe explained in the post. –Joe

Brady couldn’t have carved up the Bucs D any worse than in that preseason game haha. We’re missing Goldson, of course Amendola is out after one game. I had a dream last night that Bowers had a huge sack against the Patriots! The defense is exciting to watch, making big plays, goal line stands, sacks, stuffing the run, huge hits, interceptions, energy…WOW. We should be 2-0 and people wouldn’t stop talking about this defense if it wasn’t for the stupid mistakes and zero offense to depend on.
It’s great to see Clayborn out there and healthy, he’s all over the place, one of my favorite players. And Barron with 13 tackles, pass breakups, half a sack, hitting hard and clean.
Hopefully Freeman finds out how to complete at least half of his passes and make a drive down the field during the game instead of only playing somewhat decent on the last drive out of desperation.
Ughhh…Clayborn and McCoy stay healthy!

Irony sucks so much. Here we are with the defensive pressure we wanted, and the improved secondary we want, and the offense taking 5 steps back that we didn’t want. I guess you just can’t have it all.

If Clowney is available whenever we draft, chances are there will be a top quarterback there as well, and QB is our #1 need hands down.

@ Nic
I agree…but we need to start Glennon as soon as we determine the season is lost….if he doesn’t perform…then we get an even higher pick….if he does…then we don’t need to draft a QB..

Joe- yeah I skimmed through that too fast. Still another bs penalty. You could see that Claiborne tried to make a clean hit there with his head to the side. To call a personal foul is egregious.

Im actually excited about this game. Yes its in New England….yes its Tom Brady…..but he still does have Gronk…..Welker is gone…..and Ammendola is hurt.

If the defense can keep scoring points, Foster Int, for a TD , the Bucs are set. Seems like the NFL is targeting Bucs for personal fouls, hope to God they don’t touch crybaby brady or the entire team may be suspended.

Just a little Shut the F up for all those crying about stunts. Leading NFL through two games is pretty impressive. Defense looks great. Secondary needs to clean up stupid penalties and blown audibles but a lot to be excited about on this side of the ball…..
The offense on the other hand….
September 17th, 2013 at 11:29 am
It’s worth noting that we had 27 sacks all of last year. This is a much improved group.
September 17th, 2013 at 11:53 am
And finally the good news. I like the way the defense is playing. Aside from the personal foul penalties, there’s a lot to like about the defense so far. Hopefully they won’t get exposed with all the stunts and blitzes.
