Bucs Could Be Big Sellers

Rockstar general manager Mark Dominik has been a GM that has put the NFLs extended trading deadline to use, and it seems Dominik’s phone could be ringing off the hook like never before.
The Bucs are toast — in September — and they’re loaded with talent. The trading deadline is Week 8 of the regular season and the Bucs have a lot they could peddle to position themselves with more options in 2014.
Sadly, there is no happy spin for the Bucs future as of today. The team is looking at rebuilding a horrid offense this offseason, despite it being ranked ninth in the NFL last year.
One talking point swirling around New England sports radio this month was the Bucs going in the tank quickly this season and Bill Belicheat prying Vincent Jackson from Tampa Bay to give the Patriots the deep threat they need to make a legitimate Super Bowl run. The thinking was that Jackson turns 31 in January and his guaranteed cash from the Bucs runs out after this season. The Bucs might not want to pay him $10 million next season if they don’t have to.
Of potential trade scenarios, Joe believes Jackson could make the most sense on paper, especially if the Bucs can get one of New England’s young receivers and a maybe a third round pick in return. While Jackson is an excellent player, he’s not playing great, and the Bucs could use that freed-up money to buy a younger receiver and (gasp) a tight end.
Joe doubts the Bucs would move an offensive lineman without an amazing offer on the table, but Joe surely could see another team willing to gamble on reviving DaQuan Bowers’ career, or perhaps the Bucs decide they don’t want to bid for free-agent-to-be Dekoda Watson and find a contending team aching for linebacker help.

Of course it would help, we’re 0-4 so it can’t hurt. I say get all the older talent out bar a few , load up on draft picks. Only four weeks in and the only hope I have for the Bucs is to suck for Teddy Bridgewater.

Joe’s not pitching the trade, merely offering a possibility based on what’s talked about in New England. It’s the not the worst move in the world, if you believe Jackson’s best days are behind him.

i would HOPE vjax could get more than a 3rd. We have alot invested at the wr postion so I could see the thinking. The thing is you want great wrs if you have a rookie qb and may draft another next year.
I’d rather have vjax because the chances of us using the pick on someone good is small. it was great to trade gaines and get a 2nd untill we drafted a benn with the pick. It was great to get a 2nd for booger but then we drafted sabby … ect.. ect

With the Browns dealing Trent Richardson I suppose anything is possible but that depends on the owners, GM and coaches having already written this season off. If any trades like you mention materialize then we know for sure they have.

I guess we don’t have to worry about the cap space needed to resign freeman in the 15 to 20 million per. so keep vjax unless its at least a 2nd plus. He has 2 more elite years left.

This may be the most garbage article I’ve read on this site. The only thing wrong is Schiano and Sullivan. For some reason, and I cannot figure out why, they cannot adapt to changes after halftime and I do not understand why they have not tried to incorporate the RB in the passing game and the TE. Glennon is gonna have the same failures Freeman had unless we give him so quick easy passing plays for quick gains that can substitue for the run game so the other team will quit stacking the box daring the bucs to run. I can count on one hand how many screens they’ve thrown to Martin in 4 games!!! Get him in space!! This isn’t baseball Joe, rarely do blockbuster deals happen during the trade deadline, note: I said RARELY. What we need is a coach who isn’t busch league attacking the victory formation 20 games into his tenure. All that ails this team scream coaching and upper management problems.

The “rock star” or “Rock Head” should not be allowed any place near next years draft. He is just as responsible for the implosion of the Buc’s as Shiano and Freeman.
He has a terrible record as a GM and does not deserve another opportunity with this team. He as proven NOTHING…CLEAN HOUSE!!!!!!

There is no chance we are trading at this deadline. That would signal the Bucs are rebuilding. Even though it damn sure looks like we are rebuilding, we are trying not to.
The Glazers are already doing damage control by avoiding the blackouts. That has to be costing them a pretty penny considering the abysmal attendance. They sell our No. 1 WR and they’ll be 15K at the games.
I can only imagine how hot Bryan and Joel Glazer are right now.

I’m getting sick of reading here how the Bucs have no chance to do anything. You’re like the guys that leave in the first quarter after the other team is leading 7 to nothing.
I don’t watch Bucs games only about the post-season or a championship. I watch because I like to root for them and like to see them play well and hopefully win. There are 12 more opportunities to do that this season.
And the bottom line is that the Bucs still could go on a run and win a whole bunch of games. It’s far from inconceivable.

I think we might be the 2013 version of the KC Chiefs. They finished the season at 2-14 despite all that talent in their roster.
With a good draft, a couple roster moves and more than anything else a coaching change, we could be up for a quick turnaround!

Less than 1% of teams that started 0-4 have made the playoffs. Without a shadow of a doubt it is completely inconceivable that the Bucs will make the playoffs, especially with a rookie QB.

Joe how the hell would you be okay with that move? Jackson is an elite receiver and has done all the right things for this offense! Yeah….. lets trade him away for a third round pick (that Dom will just blow anyway) and a receiver that has “potential”. Hmmm……SORRY that’s not gonna fix anything. Give us a new HC, OC and QB and this team is a complete 180 from what it is now.

BTW Joe – publishing this article at this moment is just wrong. BUCS fans are already lining up at the skyway. Give us a day or two to come to grips with the fact that after this 5 year project of building through the draft, have a franchise quarterback and adding big name free agents, its all been ripped away from us…in 4 weeks no less. I don’t think most of us are ready to talk about selling our talent just yet, for some unproven player or a draft pick… I am sick just thinking about it.

I don’t give a damn if we are in the run for the playoffs or not, building a roster is one of the most challenging things to do in football and time consuming.
There is NO REASON you get rid of all the positive you’ve done to the roster and it would only set us back, FAR BACK.
We are a few plays from being a 3-1 team, we are a few moves from being a competitive organization again next season. That won’t happen with a fire sale.

Jaworski was talking about what makes players great this morning and he said that it’s the ability to make the players around you better. That’s what concerns me about the trade you suggested. Vjax still has gas in his tank and could do great things with a good team. The young receiver we could get from new England is probably only looking good because he’s playing with a great quarterback who is making the players around him better.

This is….This is all very depressing. Just one time in my life I would like to see the Bucs become a super Juggernaut like Denver is this yr with a FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK with a 15-1 record and homefield throughout the playoffs or something ridiculous. I think we can count with one hand how many double digit win seasons this organization has had in it’s entire history. I wish we had owners like The Rays. The Rays are the envy of almost every team in Major league baseball and is such a respected organization league wide. The Bucs are pretty much the antithesis of The Rays in how they are run, with the Rays being the first class organization of the area and it’s not even close. From top to bottom, I think the Bucs need a cleansing. I think someone such as Eddie Debartolo could have really given this organization a facelift

Last year, Jackson’s first year w/ Free, he posted career numbers in everything except TDs (which he was 1 off….probably that one where he got run down the week of his hamstring injury, smh). With these new rules, i’m sure he still has a few more good years in him before you can say his best days are beind him.

I don’t think a fire sale is the way to go. This team needs a QB and a TE, possibly even a new coaching staff if things continue to stay this bad. I’m not ruling out a Freeman trade, even with Josh acting wacky lately, and even with the improved defense, I can’t rule out Schiano losing his job if the on the field losing doesn’t stop. This team could be very appealing to an experienced coach; talented veterans on both sides of the ball, young skill players on offense and defense, a likely high first round pick, cap space to bring in some more players.
But, look, if Schiano goes I think Mark Dominik has to go with him. I don’t see too many experienced coaches coming to Tampa with Dominik at the GM spot, especially if the Glazers are shooting for a big name coach. They’ll want their own guy. I like what Dominik has done from a talent acquisition and draft standpoint over the last few seasons; I was beyond thrilled when Tampa landed both Doug Martin and Lavonte David while managing to still keep their high first round pick to use on Mark Barron. Let’s not forget that without the pick obtained in the Talib trade, the Bucs likely have only Martin or David, not both. But the team has had one winning record and no playoff appearances since Dominik took over the helm, and while the best intentions were there to clean up the locker room when Schiano was hired, and again, the defense has been fantastic, but this offensive scheme is practically prehistoric.
If the next several weeks play out with more losses, heck, if the team loses against a weak Philadelphia squad, I hope the Glazers are doing their homework and planning on taking a chance to hit a homerun with a big name hire. Give the new coach his own handpicked GM, let an entirely brand new regime pick a new QB, find someone that isn’t intent on having Doug Martin break James Wilder’s record for most attempts in a season. If the Bucs don’t show improvement this season; QB be damned, it might make the most sense to let everyone go; Dominik, Schiano, Freeman, all of them. With the right QB and right scheme on both sides of the ball, this team can turnaround exactly like Kansas City has so far this season, I truly believe it. There is too much talent to be as bad as the Bucs have been, as fan, I need the bleeding to stop.

The most depressing part (to me) is that we are at the “build to win now” stage of the team building life cycle.
Sadly, the piss poor planning, bad coaching, and bad management have short circuited this dream.
Seriously, think about it… we spent the past several years drafting talent.
Then after running the “youngest roster in the NFL” for consecutive seasons, we finally felt like it was time to make a playoff push. As a result, we started signing high priced free agents.
Unfortunately, we tanked last season, and we’re now battling for being the worst team in the NFL this year.
If Glennon doesn’t show improvement, then we are guaranteed to draft the top QB in the next draft.
If we don’t start winning games, we are likely going to see our head coach (and maybe our GM) jettisoned.
Does anyone think that Jackson and Revis want to remain a Buc while we enter into another lengthy rebuilding process?
I’m just ticked off… I haven’t seen this team win in a long time.

No the Bucs are the worst team in Florida because the Jaguars clearly forfeited this season before it started. They accepted 0-16 back in July because they wanted Teddy Bridgewater. The Bucs are trying and they look this bad (well, the offense is a disgrace. The defense is very strong but you can’t win games 10-9).

I would have called trading V-Jax nuts just a month ago. Now, it actually seems plausible. Schartano is Belicheat’s baby biach and woud love to hand deliver him another player that wil reach his full potential in NE. He’s going to need a gig soon…LB coach is Shartano’s ceiling in the NFL I’m afraid.

I think we have given Schiano and his mega-staff way more than enough time. He’s now 7-13 as a HC plus all the preseason losses. The guy is snake bit and everybody hates him. As long as he remains HC, the Bucs will be hated by ref, media, and everyone in between. Schiano is Walking Disaster Area!
I haven’t missed going to a home game in years. I bought 2 extra tickets for Phili so my half brother could take his son with us. I just gave him my other 3 so his Wife, Mom and Dad can all go in their Phili jerseys and sit in my seats. I am really happy for them because his Dad hasn’t been to a game before and Phili will probably be ahead by 4 TD’s in the 2’nd quarter. This is the only way I know to express my displeasure with the state of the France-Cheese. I bet there wasn’t even 30,000 fans there yesterday, and why would someone waste their hard earned money on a Pathetic Poor Excuse for a Coach leading his team astray.
I have already bought next years tickets as I said, so I’m glued, screwed and tattooed, but I may very well pull some boycotts like this until things change and Schiano gets the boot. The guy totally sucks and has no business in the NFL. I supported him, even gave him 1 extra week (against a sucky team) but I’m done until something changes.
And trying to go 0-16 for Bridgewater is not what I signed up for as a season ticket member. I want to win, at least occasionally and a HC with a 35% winning percentage is in the wrong business

Something to think about regarding VJax – would you take aging Jackson or the best TE in the game today Jimmy Graham? Saints will not be able to resign him and getting out of paying $10 Mil to a 31 year old receiver is a good thing.

He needs carries to get going and he wasn’t going to get them here.
Unless we are proposing taking the carries from Dougie.
Blount was horrible at the only thing we needed him for and that was the short down and distance.

Here is some Oil for your Vinegar! Some off-beat website says there are rumors of Schiano to Texas. Hook-Em Horns! I think that would be the best move for our organization. See if the “Pep Boys” (Glazer Boys) are serious next time about a real coach now that they have flopped on two in a row when there dad scored on two in a row.

Okay because the prospect of coming to play for the Bucs after the season they had, and a first year coach looked horrible to Nicks and VJax, right? They came to this team for the following reason – CASH MONEY- Something we will have if we cut ties with the aging downfield threat that no longer has a QB with an absolute cannon for an arm.

I would lose it if we traded VJ , who can take his spot? MW is a perfect second WR but I don’t think he would fair very well being blanketed by the opposing teams number 1 CB. Do NOT trade this man. We have all the talent we need to win football game but we need coaches to utilize the talent on the field. Trade away our HC and all offensive coaches for a 7th round pick

Guys. The season is over. We are a rebuilding team. That happened the Minute Josh left the Building.
We don’t have a QB. We have to draft one- and invest a couple years developing him. No need to keep any good veteran players around to live thru that.
Might as well start gathering young players again.
But we can’t let Dom waste the draft picks

Funny, I never got the impression that we ever stopped “rebuilding”.
Our team’s current talent window (given the age of the o-line and other key members) was probaly 2 to 3 years, including this year.
Unfortunately, we aren’t going to capitalize on it.

Agreed on we are not in full blown rebuilding mode yet. But our offense is based on having a QB with a big arm and a line that will allow routes to finish downfield – two things we don’t have. This could be solved with having a third option to open up things underneath – but again, we dont have it.
Blow it up on offense and lets get some young talent that will give us a hope. Luckily we have a defense that will help ease the pain of it all

If they would trade for rivers, get a real coach, and a tight end, they could turn around fairly quick. It’s no longer the case that it takes years of rebuilding.

Anyone who knows anything knew this season was over after losing to the Jets. You cannot lose that game to that team, and they did. 0-4 was painfully obvious after that point. The only positive about this team right now is they avoided giving Freeman an extension that right now would be catastrophic. Bucs might have paid $90 million to a guy who will sign for maybe $15 million after the season.

Normally I would offer up an argument to keep Dominick because I do like the majority of the moves he’s made but at this point I’m not opposed to looking somewhere else. A poster before made a good point about a new head coach wanting his own GM. If we can get a quality coach then I’ll be happy with telling Dominick thanks for your service but you’re no longer needed.

My biggest fear right now is that after the Bucs tank all year and end up with a top three pick, Schiano will be retained as head coach and not use it on an elite qb prospect because he really believes Glennon is the future. This could seriously happen and it scares the heck outta me.

I’m not even going to read all the comments, but trading Jackson is beyond stupid. For a pick? Why, so we can blow a pick, or maybe get lucky and wait a few years for the player to develop? He’s not slowed down, he’s not getting old, he’s having the defenses double and triple cover him all game long. Watch the damn game people!!! When did he not have safety help yesterday? When have you seen him have 1 on 1 coverage this year? Not very often, and the times he has, he’s made a big play. Everyone knows, stop Jackson and stop Martin, we can’t do anything. Mike Williams is a nice little receiver, but he disappears for long stretches in games. How many times have you seen him start out a game with a few catches, then catches nothing but a 5 yard catch the rest of the game? Happens all the time, like yesterday for example. Maybe that’s coaching and/or the QB, but he’s not a #1 WR (a really good #2, but not a #1).
Jackson is the best WR we’ve ever had in Tampa. He’s a great player, does a ton in the community, and is a captain of the team. Oh yeah, he’s a perennial Pro Bowl player. He never complains, he hasn’t missed a game yet, and he’s made HUGE catches in clutch situations – and people would be willing to give that up for a 3rd round pick???? Because he makes too much money? How far under the cap do you want us to go? He’s had a few drops, so freaking what? Every receiver drops passes, and usually in stretches. Last year Jason Witten went through a 5 game stretch where he dropped a couple every week. Did the Cowboys look to trade him? Of course not, and he had a great year last year. We trade Jackson, it will be the stupidest decision ever, right after hiring Schiano.

If the Bucs are dumb enough to trade a team Captain and respected veteran in Vjax, then Dom & Schiano need replacing. Take a look at the recent ‘non Buccaneer men’ who have been traded or released for sweet buck all in return……
1. Talib. He is playing at a pro bowl level and we could have kept him and had an even better secondary. He’s had how many picks in the first 4 games? 5?
2. K2. Playing well for the Jets-an immense upgrade from the rabble we currently have at TE. Tim Wright? Please. He might be a dick in terms of personality but every team has a few of them. An accomplished veteran would go a long way right now.
3. Blount. He’s a downhill running wrecking ball that we sorely miss. He might have been a shithouse blocker but so what. He’s probably blocking better than Donald Penn right now. The TD he got in the Falcons game was vintage.
This 3 players clearly illustrate that its Schiano’s way or the high way, and because he cannot compromise and wants a bunch of robots the team has suffered.
I really fear he is going to lose this locker room. Attracting top free agents in the current environment will be nearly impossible.
The defense is where it should be, but the offense and JF5 fiasco combined with the bad culture rumblings are a massive concern.
Off with his head I say.

Now that Freeman has been banished, not ONE guy from the 2009 draft is left. You know something is going on behind the scenes at OBP because Dumbinic is in hiding again just like he did during Raheem’s last season. Hopefully the Little Dictator gets hired at Texas, let Stoops beat the hell out of him before Texas realizes Schiano is a POS as well.

Really, Kenbrell Thompkins! Wow, wow, wow, wow. The guy has played 4 games for the best QB of all time (with a ton of drops and bad routes by the way), and you want to trade a 3 time pro bowl WR (and a legit #1)???? Brady made Deion Branch into an All-Pro!!!! You need to enter the same substance abuse program as Freeman. Some fans can be so stupid that they think it’s a wise move to get rid of the best WR we’ve had in the history of our franchise — after only 20 games!!!!!!

Hello, he caught a career high in receiving yardage last year!!! What are you talking about? Do you think he regressed that much in 8 months? You are absolutely crazy. And if he has regressed, why is no other receiver doing anything? it’s because our coaching and/or QB play is horrid. Jackson had a 75 yard TD pass called back due to coaching. He’s been wide ass open many times and been either missed, or not even looked at.

The NFL is all about windows.
We draft a new QB next May. New coaching staff. Takes most QBs 3-4 years to adjust- IF THEY STAY IN THE SAME SYSTEM!!.
Ok- in 4 years, we are ready to make our move.
And Jackson is 35.
When Freeman left, our window shut. Starting over. Jackson is too old to wait that long.
He is the best player/person on this team. I am just honored to have him on our team. He’s a great person.
Set him free. Let him go win a ring! He deserves one.
And there won’t be any rings won here for the next 5 years.
