Schiano Talks Special Teams, Drops & Bad Throws
August 25th, 2013The leader of the New Schiano Order praised Tom Crabtree and Michael Adams for forcing turnovers on special teams, and Greg Schiano liked the “opportunistic” play of his defense.
But Schiano was down on the mistakes of his offense, particularly pass protection, off-target throws and drops. Enjoy 3 1/2 minutes of Schiano’s postgame commentary below, courtesy of the Buccaneers Radio Network and WDAE-AM 620.

Lets face it folks the ONLY thing, as a unit, that look decent last night was the special teams and they only earned an A- for the take aways.
The O-line looks horrible – they can’t open holes; thank goodness Martin was wasted on that pathetic performance
Freeman shouldn’t have portrayed MJ for ESPN last year but should have been the tin man from the Wizard of Oz because he takes sooooo looongggg to throw a ball, any ball.
Glennon displayed to Buc nation that yes he is a rookie and that no he is NOT ready for prime time
Someone needs to put out an APB for McCoy who except for a single play was MIA along with both DE’s.
Jonathan Banks officically changed his last name from Bank to ATM because he allowed Miami’s WR’s to withdraw yardage at will and without paying any fees!
And on and on it goes….
Pat Kirwen was right folks this team will NOT do better than last year and it’s sad, especially given the fact that the Glazers finally stepped up and loosed their pocketbooks to bring in those Big Free Agents we’ve demanded. You’d never know it by watching last night’s game.

Poor Ronde Barber!!!!
He was trying so hard to defend Freeman from the comments that he (Ronde) made prior and Freeman was doing his best to show the world that Josh just doesn’t care if he stays in Tampa beyond 2013.
Body language says a lot about a QB and Freeman telegraphed to the world, yeah I like playing QB but man would I rather be playing dress up as MJ and posing for magazine’s.
There was no sense or urgency, no sense of anger, and no leadership.
Can you imagine what Tom Brady or Peyton Manning or Drew Brees would have done when VJ and MW dropped those passes early in the game?
Freeman was basically, ok no big deal!
Ronde was right, Freeman may possess the skill set and physical attributes to be a big time NFL QB but the most important one he lacks – HEART.
I’m NOT saying to replace Freeman now as Glenenon isn’t ready and Josh is the better of the two QB’s at the present but what I think needs to happen is that the Bucs need to get Freeman more into the game, the running game that it. Make Josh run some play action QB keepers.
So what if Josh get’s hit hard or even hurt, it’s not like Freeman is the Future Franchise QB of the Bucs
Unless you want to revert to the creamsickle YUKS of yesteryear!

On a positive note, the Bucs SHOULD win their season opener as the JETS are is more disarray than the Bucs!
I guarentee you that the JETS would take Freeman in a heartbeat.
Somehow writing that only makes me sick to my stomach and sad. 🙁

“The leader of the New Schiano Order” label gets old after awhile. Have you thought of anything new or will you continue to use this old, worn out label?
As for the team, sad to watch another week. Hope the coaching staff can get this team ready for NYJ and beyond.

I don’t understand how you can point out how horrible the oline is…yet still find fault with Freeman.
I think QB and WRs were out of sync. That’s probably because of the lack of live game action. It will work itself out.
NFC SOUTH Chaps will be the Bucs this year and they will get to the “NFC” Championship game. (Look! I fixed it, MadMax!!!!)

If Sanchez can’t go the Jets backup for Sunday could be Matt Simms, the brother of Chris, son of Phil, who made his debut against us as a rook in 1979 for the Giants. Beat us 17-14 to snap our five game win streak to start the season.
As advantageous as playing against Smith ought a be, I imagine Rex Ryan is salivating over devising a game plan to confuse Josh. For all his nuttiness he is one of the best defensive minds in the game. Uh oh.

Bonzai
The O-line is very much to blame for the anemic Bucs offense.
However all one has to do is play the tap over again to see that the WR’s WERE open IF the QB were to throw the ball when they break, not after the WR has taken 2-3 steps.
Tannehill displayed his ability to get the ball out in a hurry on the slant pattern and frankly if Miami’s WR’s hadn’t dropped so many balls the game would have been more lopsided.
The only time Freeman looked like the 2010 Freeman was on the quick out to MW – other than that pass JF never got the ball out of his hand in less than 3.0 seconds.
I guess it’s ok for the QB to just fumble the ball at midfield because…..
Oh how I long for the days of Brad Johnson…..

Can u see Jeff Garcia in this offense,I sure can.

Lucky,
The fumble was totally on Freeman. On that I agree. The ball was wet, but after 4 years experience he should know how to hold onto a wet ball. Then again…accidents happen even to the best QBs.
As far as the WRs being open, yes they were…but they were clearly in the wrong places. I don’t blame Freeman or the WRs for most of those instances…I blame the lack of game action because in games the defense affects timing.
And sure, Josh was off at times as well. And so was Williams. And so was Jackson. Both WRs had key drops. Again…I blame lack of game time.
The good news is they got the gametime last night. Now they’ll work from that.

I’m glad Martin didn’t play. The way that oline blocked we would have risked an injury.
Joseph only played 15 snaps. Pen and Zuttah can’t do it all. Coming into the off season I felt that CB and better line depth (OT, OG & DT) were the biggest needs. CB was addressed, but the others have not been…and that could hurt us bad later.
At least Spence is turning into a stud. GMC was pulled from the game after a couple series.
