Josh Freeman: Mentor-In-Chief

August 12th, 2013

Greg Schiano said he’s seen “a ton” of development in Mike Glennon and plenty of credit goes to No. 5.

Here’s one that will have the Mike Glennon Mob pouring champagne.

The leader of the New Schiano Order hopped on NBC Sports Network this evening and raved about his up-and-coming rookie QB, all while praising Josh Freeman for his role in Glennon’s maturation. And Greg Schiano even evoked the word “competition,” a motto the Mob lives by.

“I’ve seen a ton, a ton of development [in Mike Glennon]. And the best part of this whole deal, Josh Freeman is one of the guys that’s helping him most to develop,” Schiano said. “You know that’s the kind of, I think the kind of thing we got going right now is that there’s guys helping each other out. I mean we all know the reality of this league. It’s pure competition and its purest sense. But it’s been pretty cool to watch.”

Yes, Joe knows Freeman is the No. 1 quarterback.

It’s not only great news to hear such a strong evaluation of Glennon, it’s also early insight into how long or short of a leash the regime might have for Freeman, if he falters significantly this season.

I’m taking a roll call right now. Whoever’s on the Freeman Bandwagon say I. Whoever’s not say nay.

  2. Free's A Boob Says:

NAY!!! He’s too stupid to be a quality NFL QB.

  3. Illuminati Says:

I’m on the “whatever it takes for the Buccaneers to win” bandwagon.

  4. Sneedy16 Says:

    @Free’s A Boob

Those comments. lol. Dude you have issues.

  5. Buc1987 Says:

  6. Illuminati Says:

The thing is, John McNulty has publicly stated that it’s a “waste of time” to try and fix a QB’s mechanics.

And Glennon’s mechanics are far superior to Freeman’s.

And Sullivan will take a new job as soon as it’s offered.

And McNulty is the heir apparent to Sullivan’s job.

    Do the math.

  7. Buc1987 Says:

Illuminati…I’ll take that as a nay. So 2 nays. Keep in mind I’m taking names.

  8. SeanyMac in SC Says:

Lets hope Glennon gets better! Dan O or Adam Web (throws a pick 6 on the first throw) have no chance at getting the Bucs any wins.

I say I to whoever makes this team more successful. At this moment, it JF5.

  9. NY Bucs fan Says:

    I. Did anyone watch the preseason game free is the better QB.

  10. Andrew 1 Says:

if Freeman was so threatened by Glennon then why would he go out of his way to teach the guy everything he knows. so that he could loose his job? I dont think so. The fact is Freeman knows he is the unquestioned starter. its high time the rest of you doubters know that too.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

“Mike Glennon Mob”…btw Joe I find that term absolutely hilarious and truly fitting. Of course I’d throw a couple more profane adjectives into it.

  12. Illuminati Says:

    @ Buc1987

Keep in mind I’m taking names.

Good. Because memories around here are short.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

    Andrew 1 I or nay?

  14. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Buc1987

ummmmm, I dont know…. LOL, just kidding, of course I.

  15. Illuminati Says:

The sad thing is, Freeman is the best QB this team has ever had. That’s how starved we are for a true “franchise” QB. Because we’ve never had one.

  16. Buc'n Junkie Says:

  17. Buc1987 Says:

Joe I don’t mean to hijack your article. So people please comment if you like, then in the end drop your I or nay.

  18. tonytwocents Says:

If anything, this shows alot of character and maturity on Freemans part. But as particular as Schiano seems to be, Im sure he chose his words carefully. He said enough to keep Freeman on his toes, and boost Glennons confidence…but in reality, Freeman will play the entire season so that Dom & the Glazers get a full assesment on where to go with his contract. So the Glennon Groupies will have to sit this season out.

  19. Sneedy16 Says:

I’ll support Free until he is no longer on the ream. I

  20. Buc'n Junkie Says:

I think we will see a more confident and smarter Josh Freeman this year. He will be a caretaker this year. If our defense can limit the big plays and chunks of yardage and produce more three and outs. Josh will cut down on his turn-overs because he won’t be pressing to keep up. If Josh plays caretaker and moves the chains, slow the game down we can dominate. It’s only when we get into a shoot-out that Josh begins to press and then he’s more prone to making mistakes.

This year, if we can keep everyone healthy should be a blast.

Does anyone know where I can get a collapsible bullhorn?

Mine won’t fit in a one gallon baggie. lol

Man, I’m gonna be hoarse all season.

  21. Buc1987 Says:

Junkie I’m going to keep a case of Halls in my van to pass out to fans in my section and along the way into RJS telling them to be loud at the same time. RJS is going to rock buddy. I’m on an f-ing mission man.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

    tonytwocents …so it’s an I?

  23. Buc1987 Says:

  24. Mitch Says:

    I I I

  25. Eric Says:

In order to have a quarterback controversy you need two good quarterbacks.

Not sure we even have one yet.

  26. Bobby Says:

Freeman will be the QB this year and is clearly better all the way round. I believe we will see a much more consistent Josh this year. I’m not down on Glennon. I stated when we drafted him that I was so pissed after the pick until I went and watched some of his college tape and I liked what I saw, especially with his cast of receivers. Sooooo many drops. I saw why they drafted him…he fits this offense perfectly if Josh goes down. They would not have to change the offense at all. He has the arm to push the ball down the field and that is required in this offense. We may be one of the few teams in the NFL to have very little drop off in production if our main QB got injured. That is a huge plus!

I am, however; banking on Freeman. I’ve seen Josh make throws that I don’t know if any other QB in the league could duplicate. That laser to VJax in the Panthers game was just sick! The velocity on that was close to requiring Vincent to wear a Kevlar jersey. Sure, I’ve seen him throw some ducks too but I like what Joe is reporting out of practice this year. When I hear things like ‘Brees like accuracy’ in consecutive practices it makes me feel good about him taking that to the game. Looking forward to this season. Yeah….I’m an ‘I’.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

    So nay for Eric

  28. chef paul Says:

With this newfangled secondary and a year under his belt he has ton of (wait for the nasty word) potential. I bought all the halls in the whole town. You’ll hear me from Iowa baby. I. Admittedly some of that screaming I’m sure will be directed towards Freeman but not as much as it was last year

  29. tonytwocents Says:

    I. Freemans gonna make that jump this year to the next level.

  30. Buc'n Junkie Says:

    @Bobby

“The velocity on that was close to requiring Vincent to wear a Kevlar jersey”

What a great description! With your permission, somewhere down the road I may use that!

  31. Solaire of Astora Says:

I say I. Not sure if he will be on the team next year but I think he’ll be good wherever he ends up.

  32. tonytwocents Says:

@ ’87. the feelings mutual. its a Buccaneer Bromance!

  33. Buc1987 Says:

I’s are whipping some ass over the the nays they have a 10-3 lead over the Mike Glennon Mob.

  34. Buc1987 Says:

  36. Buc1987 Says:

C’mon Couch Fan I know your lurking somewhere on site. I or nay? I’ll put robert down as a nay. So maybe if they get Couch’s nay it’ll be a 10 – 5 lead.

  37. Raphael Says:

freeman is our franchise Stud QB .. Glad he is on our team …and sry but Glennon could not carry his jock strap.. IIIIIIIIIIIIII

And I due understand the need to generate post though the comparison is laughable..in a couple yrs Glennon will be a good QB.

Can’t wait to lmao at the bandwagon fans .

  41. Buc1987 Says:

15-3 lead over the Mike Glennon Mob

  42. Cdog Says:

I say I Tampa Fan’s sounding to much eagles fans the way we treat our QB Name one high draft pick who’s shown this much ability while he was playing for us remember Vinny, Trent, they never put up these kind of numbers for us. So let this lid do what he does. Truth is most of us commenting on here could barely hold his jock strap.

  43. Buc1987 Says:

Now I know Couch and Stevek are on the fence about #5. It comes down to do you believe or not. I or nay. Drop them when your ready, either tonight or the morning. I mean it’s like poker all in or not?

  44. Ian_620WDAE Says:

I JF5 is my QB, this is his year to prove that he is the franchise QB we all need him to be.

If not the GlenMob will be justified in their JF5 witch hunt

  46. Macabee Says:

  47. Buc1987 Says:

Ya loving this Junkie? I held up a 20 foot banner during last Thursday’s preseason game that read WE BELIEVE IN JOSH.
It took me nearly 2 hrs to paint the sucker. The goal was for Freeman to see it. No cameras came my way. Which I still say wtf why not? This sucker was huge and it was during intermission times when nothing was going on. I held it up in 2 different spots of the stadium so Josh would see it. The I’s so far make me feel like I’m right. Buc fans still do believe in # 5. So in sense I held that sign up for not only Josh but for all you I’s.

  48. GABA Says:

I say hold that sign up at every game you go to !

  49. Buc1987 Says:

    @GABA…your welcome buddy. Your welcome.

  50. Buc1987 Says:

You know Joe, I value your opinion too probably more than most. Being how your at every Buc practice and such. Do you care to drop an I or nay? I mean give us the thumbs up or thumbs down judging by what you’ve seen. Are you on the Freeman Bandwagon or do you have to remain objective? If you have to remain objective I understand why you have to keep it to yourself. If not be a regular fan then and state your case for why you say I or nay. I know how much this team means to you dude. You are in a sense living my dream. I mean if you drop an I it will look like your not being objective in your articles if you praise #5, but please. I think I already know the answer, so I really don’t need to even bother do I?

  51. Joe Says:

    1987:

Are you on the Freeman Bandwagon or do you have to remain objective?

Joe is objective. The best chance for the Bucs to make the playoffs is with Freeman. That’s not even up for serious debate. Is Freeman the answer as the franchise quarterback? Joe isn’t sold yet. Has he practiced exceptionally of late? Yes. Can he win games? We shall see.

His 6-15 record against teams with a winning record is pretty dismal. No one, including Dominik and Schiano, know what to expect. They hope for the best, they think Freeman can rise to a new level, but Freeman has been so inconsistent over his career predicting what he will do is simply a guess.

Many of these questions will be answered over the next four months.

  52. tonytwocents Says:

much respect, ’87. a true die hard! Faith in the Five bro!

  53. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    I.

I believe that unless injury prohibits him, Josh Freeman will be our starter for the next 7 seasons…5 of which will be post seasons.

I also believe in 2-3 years we’ll get another backup because Glennon will be following in the footsteps of Chris Simms, Bruce Gradkowski, Shawn King, and Luke McCown.

  54. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I intentionally mispelled Kings name because he’ll change back to hating Josh as soon as he thinks it isn’t paying dividends.

  55. Solaire of Astora Says:

So Joe you taking the agnostic approach

  56. Buc1987 Says:

Many of these questions will be answered over the next four months.

@Joe very true, very true. As far as the supposed Mike Glennon Mob on JBF well the jury’s still out, but judging so far there is virtually no one. Except maybe 6 people vs many in Freeman’s corner.

  57. Buc1987 Says:

Okay this is going to be long and drawn out, so I apologize 1st to whoever has to read it. Believe me it was harder for me to type all this than it is to read, it’s 1:30 A.M.

@tonytwocents …thanks man, but don’t let the die hard fan fool ya. I’m very careful with my money. I shelled out $1,300 for 2 season tickets for a reason man. I’m not blind. I KNOW not see what’s going on with MY Bucs. As far as I’m concerned in my own mind this is MY team. People may think I’m crazy or think they are a bigger fan and that’s fine. Maybe by the end of the season as I continue on this journey with the rest of you on JBF people will finally get it. It’s MY team not yours, theirs, or Joe’s. I’m not questioning anyone else’s love of the Bucs. Just say saying I have a deep, deep affection for this team. So much I can feel it when things are about to go right for them. Hard to describe I guess. Some may say well then why have you not bought season tickets earlier? Well I have traveled a lot over the last 20 years bouncing from state to state. Even when I was in the area the Bucs had already picked up Dungy and things were going good, so tickets were impossible to get. Even then I moved to N.C. and had to celebrate the SB win in N.C. I got a Dish just for Sunday NFL Ticket because I felt it man. I knew it was going to happen. I can’t describe it. I just know, call me Buc psychic I guess. Okay now I’m going to end this long drawn out crap that’s probably bored you to death. I’ll end it with this. MY Bucs are going to be 2013 NFC South Division Champs, I can feel it.

  58. Buc1987 Says:

    I for Bonzai

  59. Buc1987 Says:

Oh and goodnight it’s f-ing late. I expect to see lots of I’s when I wake up.

  60. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Buc1987, we “homers” stick together 😉

  61. Couch Fan Says:

I dont care who the QB is as long as he is capable of winning and leading us to the playoffs

  62. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

I (am not afraid to pick a side, ^*cough*^)

  63. Couch Fan Says:

There both buccaneers. No need to pick sides. Thats something silly you all can do. While its clear you all want Free to be the starter. I only want the better of the two. I wont pick sides.

  64. DJ Says:

    I
But I do hope Glennon excels. It’s always good to have a comptent backup just invade Free misses a few games. That being said, this is the year Freeman breaks out and everyone is right back on the bandwagon.

  65. Nic Says:

If you were to pull tape on all the games JF5 has played against teams with winning records, how many of those losses can you put at his feet? Freeman took the helm during the Raheem era, and that was some of the worst defense I have EVER seen. Anytime you saw the opposing team throw a pass over 20 yds, you knew they had a receiver coming down with it before they were even seen on the camera, and 90 percent of the time it was right! He makes a lot of mistakes, but how many times during those games is he playing from behind? I’m sorry but when you’re down by over 10 pts, you aren’t going to be feeding the Muscle Hamster but airing it out. The defenses know that. Its like has been repeated time and time again. Josh can only be judged once he has a legitimate defense that might let him hold a lead for more than a series!

That’s a big “Aye” from me. (C’mon you’re all Buccaneer fans, and you don’t know it’s “Aye”?) 😛

  66. stvcl Says:

I…Land of the Free(man)…home of the Bucs!

  67. Buc'n Junkie Says:

    Couch Fan = wishy washy

You can’t even take a stand. You are so vehemently against Josh that you can’t put your pride away for one moment and truly hope that Josh does well for the common good. You have trashed him all off-season so much that now that we know without a doubt who our starting QB will be, you don’t have the courage or even the decency to swallow your pride and rally behind our QB. You secretly would like to see him fail, so you play this version of devil’s advocate to keep yourself from looking weak. You’re pathetic. Take a real stand like a real man. Yes or no?

  68. lightningbuc Says:

Freeman a mentor? Talk about the blind leading the blind!

  69. PRBucFan Says:

    Neither I nor Nay

Let the chips fall where they may

If you don’t like that answer, too bad lol

As far as the team goes as a whole this season I definitely believe we will make some noise. It could be a special season.

  70. PRBucFan Says:

Saying that one is not on the “JF Bandwagon” does not mean that one is not hoping and wishing JF has a great season. One of the things I love most is seeing my Bucs win and one of the things I hate most is seeing my Bucs lose.
I NEED and WANT more than anything for Free to play well, I’m tired of yanking my hair out during the season and having a horrible week following most Sundays during the season.

Only someone who isn’t truly a fan of the team wouldn’t hope/want him to do well. But that’s entirely different than believing that he will do well.

  71. PRBucFan Says:

“Joe is objective. The best chance for the Bucs to make the playoffs is with Freeman. That’s not even up for serious debate. Is Freeman the answer as the franchise quarterback? Joe isn’t sold yet. Has he practiced exceptionally of late? Yes. Can he win games? We shall see.

Thank you Joe, my sentiment exactly.

  72. TrueBucFan5599 Says:

I I I. Freeman all the way. Playoff bound baby. I love Mike Glennon as a back up and feel like he would do a serviceable job if Freeman were to go down. But that’s highly unlikely. He’s missed what, 1 game since he became a starter that memorable day at Raymond James against the Greenbay Slackers!

  73. adamant Says:

I for Freeman. If he is healthy all year, he will have a career year. Then we will try to re-sign him to a team friendly deal or franchise him.

  74. Chef Paul Says:

I hate the phrase “give me just one more chance”, but this is the year for Freeman. I’m sure we ALL are sick of pulling our hair out. Freeman has his disappointing times, that’s for sure. But the deck is stacked for Freeman this year and all I ask is to give him one more year.

Did anybody see Sapp’s Relentless? He said when Dungy got here they finally had structure. Finally since Gruden got canned we have structure. That’s big. That’s why I say give him just one more chance. If he can’t get it done this year, I’ll be first in line to toss this guy out of town. But for now, we have to rally behind this guy and get on his bandwagon. If we’re wrong, who cares. We aren’t the decision makers so it doesn’t matter if we’re wrong. Just one more year of structure and we’ll know exactly what we have in a QB. I know it’s called an excuse but I feel it’s unfair to judge a QB with the joke of HC he started his career with. Just one more chance

  75. Couch Fan Says:

    @Junkie

Just because my lips aren’t glued to Free’s ass, like yours, doesn’t mean I’m wishy washy. What you call “trashing Freeman all off season” I call stating my honest opinion. Not my fault you cant accept an honest negative opinion about your man crush.

It is clear YOU have already choosen a side. And it has ALWAYS Been clear who was going to be our starter come opening day. When have I ever said that Josh wouldn’t be our starter opening day?

Having a conversation with you is almost pointless because not only do you make up stuff that nobody has said, but you also say stuff that makes it clear that you are blatently bias against Glennon, then try to say its us who are bias against Freeman. LMAO

Only thing pathetic is your attempt to choose sides when there is no need for it. I want Josh to do well, do I believe he will? No. Simple as that.

Now go head and continue your name calling, from what I’ve seen its about all your good for… well and keeping Josh’s @$$ moist with your lips.

  76. Couch Fan Says:

I could careless about being on any stupid “JF5” band wagon. I’m on the Bucs band wagon and that is the side I choose to take.

  77. JoeG Says:

I’m puzzled how a true fan can openly root against ANY player to fail, just to claim their opinion was correct….. I absolutely despised some of the players this defense has trotted out on the field at times during the last 5 years…. But I would have gladly eaten crow and admitted my shortsightness if the player developed into a solid starter. Unfortunately my opinion was correct on players like Sabby, Haynesworth, Lewis, ect.

I’m hoping JF5 takes it to another level, with the help of a defense that can hold the opponent, once the Bucs have taken the lead. Along with coaching decisions that play to win…… All too often, we see decisions that appear too conservative, and a not to lose mentality… That inevabily produces a close loss.

    I guess that’s a long winded……I

  80. Chef Paul Says:

Couch, You’re probably going to tell me to eff off, but I think deep down you want to believe. You have a guard up from being bitten so many times. That’s understandable, I get it. After all they wrote a song about it. Once bitten twice shy. Remember I said “I THINK” and I’m reading between the lines and I’m not trying to be disrespectful. I’m not a psychologist, and there’s every chance in the world that I’m way off base. I know you don’t want or need my defense, but of all the haters out there, I don’t consider you a “HATER.” Some guys yes are just definite haters.

  81. Couch Fan Says:

    @Chef Paul

Nah I wouldn’t tell anyone to eff off for giving an honest opinion Lol. I only tell numb skulls like Buc’n Junkie who have to make stuff up to get a point across to eff off. Lol

But there is some truth to what you are saying. When Freeman first got here I was on his side, the same way I am on Glennon’s side right now. Freeman, after 4 years has given me reason enough to doubt him at this point, as opposed to Glennon not giving me a reason yet to doubt him.

I’m about as avid Buc Fan as it gets. I want to win first and foremost and if Josh proves he can do that for us. I’ll be right back on his side, but so far he hasen’t, despite all the excuses. Can he change? Sure. I want to see it first though… after 4 years, its just unlikely.

  82. Buc'n Junkie Says:

    Couch says,

“I want Josh to do well, do I believe he will? No.”

You say he won’t but you want him to. Is that not pessimism? That’s like encouraging someone to go do their best and then telling them whats the use?, you’re going to suck anyway.

We both know that Freeman has his problems. There is no denying that but to constantly bash the guy day in and day out does not tell me you want him to succeed. If you truly would like to see him succeed you would put your differences away, and quit publicly trashing him every single day, and show that you want him to.

  83. Couch Fan Says:

Bashing him and telling you I dont believe in him are 2 different things. I am not going to sit here and pretend that he is the best thing in the world. Thats not me.

The past may mean nothing to you but that is all we have to go on. If Freeman played well enough in the past, you would have no problem talking about it… but since it doesnt benefit your argument in any way, you want to completely ignore it… lol

Thats not me either. I’m gonna hope for the best while giving you my honest opinion of how he’s played so far… I’m a Buc fan but I have my own brain and I will use it however I see fit. You can call me a hater or whatever you like, I dont really care. But I’m not gonna change.

If he wants to shut me up, all he has to do is play better and lead this team to the playoffs, which should be much much easier to do this year.

  84. PRBucFan Says:

    ^^^ Exactly what I said here 😀

“Only someone who isn’t truly a fan of the team wouldn’t hope/want him to do well. But that’s entirely different than believing that he will do well.”

  85. Buc1987 Says:

Chef Paul…I already went over that with Couch Fan before. He saw no improvement from 2011 to 2012 in Freeman.
So let him remain on the fence for now. Which going by his daily points on here makes good sense for him to stay there.

As far as the Mike Glennon Mob goes. It’s a mob of 4 on JBF. It’s a 26-4 lead. With 3 on the fence PRBucFan, Couch Fan, and Stevek.
