What Scared Donald Penn
July 17th, 2013When some Buccaneers failed their welcome-to-training-camp conditioning test last year, Greg Schiano said he wasn’t surprised. Stuff like that happens with new expectations from a new regime, Schiano said.
However, Schiano also made it clear that he expected absolutely no failures in future seasons.
That pressure apparently struck fear in the heart and a rumble in the gut of Donald Penn, who isn’t known for being a picture of fitness. Penn took to Twitter yesterday to explain that he was unnerved by the start of training camp but isn’t anymore.
@DPenn70 – I’m so scared of our conditioning test but guess what I just did it n passed it now I ain’t worried bout nothing camp here I come
The Bucs’ conditioning tests — and expected results — vary for different body types. Nobody expects Penn to be Vincent Jackson.
It will be interesting to see how many, if any, returning Bucs fail to hit the New Schiano Order fitness standards. That might be tolerated from a rookie or someone new to the organization, but not from anyone else.

I like that he’s making his actions back up his words to silence his alleged weight problem

I’m sure they toned it down a bit from last year.
Probably a race to the hot dog stand this year. JK

I’d like to see a comment from Shaun King on the Buc fitness test. Because….
“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

I hope Penn fitness goals are hire then a simple fitness test. It would have been nice to hear that Penn crushed the fitness test rather then past it.
Would love to see Penn set the bar hire for himself

Not worried about Penn. The guy brings his hard hat and goes to work ever Sunday against the premier pass rushers in the league and keeps Josh upright. What people fail to realize is how much a 300+ LB lineman HAS to eat to keep his weight on during the season. That’s why the majority of O and D linemen lose a ton of weight after their career is over(Culpepper, Mark Schlereth, Mark May are a couple of examples) because they’re no longer consuming 5000+ calories a day.

Miguel has been missing for quite some time…….

Last year Schiano’s conditioning test took them all by surprise, this year they expect it and will come in after this off-season in better shape.

last time Miguel was seen, was when he passed out in the back of his Isuzu pickup truck from cheap rum on gandy bridge beach.

Does Twitter allow the use of punctuation?

@ billy bob
Bet the lights would dim if you hit the ol’ spell checker!

Some people have given Penn a bad time for carrying the extra weight, but he has always done his job. Pretty damn well too.
If half of this team meant half as much as Penn… Lombardi!

ROFLMAO !!! was thinking along the same lines.
Not sure , but my IMPRESSION is that he passed a personal practice test, and is relieved going into training camp. I don’t think Coach does the OFFICIAL one till then. Maybe Joe could comment.

I am confused. If the vets have not reported yet, how can Penn have passed his test??
July 17th, 2013 at 11:25 am
@Tampamac
You should tell that Shaun King.
July 17th, 2013 at 11:25 am
@Mike J
He probably ran a simulation of it since he knows what it is now.

I went back to read the quote again. Maybe Donald is at OBP working out? Won’t the rooks have to pass this before reporting too?

Lmao @ Sneedy!!! Damn good point as King is bigger than all 3 of the guys I mentioned!
July 17th, 2013 at 1:19 pm
I was gonna say every time I see King I think he’s Jamie Dukes, but I just saw some recent pics of Dukes and he’s dropped a lot of weight.. King is bigger than him too!

Sneedy16 , I see, thanks.

Donald Penn. Isn’t that our starting LT who was discovered by the Realist’s nemesis?
