“The Toe” Is Fine… For Now

July 25th, 2013

Yesterday, Joe brought word via Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune that Carl Nicks’ big toe, the same toe that ended his season due to turf toe and required surgery, was “heavily bandaged” when he reported for training camp at One Buc Palace yesterday.

Well, just before Joe left for the Clear Channel studios empire to chew the fat with Joe’s good friend, “The Big Dog,” Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620, Joe learned the bandage on Nicks’ toe is a misnomer. Rather, the bandage was on Nicks’ toe for what was termed “precautionary measures.”

So Nicks is good to go as the Bucs start making their way onto a wet field under gloomy, overcast skies at One Buc Palace. If something looms odd with Nicks, monitor Joe’s Twitter feed and he will have updates on all sights and sounds of training camp.

    “TOE ON THE LINE”……

Nicks told buccaneer.com that he wasn’t 100% but he was close. Leave the bandage on all year if it prevents a re-occurence.

    spin it however you want.

a bandaged toe before he even takes the field is not good!!!!!!!!

It’s a bandage, not a plaster cast. I liken it to an ankle or knee brace after an injury. Doesn’t mean you’re still injured but want to protect it from re-aggrivating it.

if it’s bandaged before he even puts his cleats on….the cleats aint gonna help it.

and it’s been like a friggin year.

this will flare back up. probably the reason we brought in the Chicago guy

    Don’t be silly.

He said it’s not fully healed yet. He got surgery on it. Better to play it safe than risk a re-injury.

Why do you ALWAYS assume to worse? Try to see more positive things…unless you are just a cranky old man.

Sorry, maybe I went a little to far with that one.

@Bonzai…LOL it’s like dealing with my wife (always assumes the worse). She says it’s better that way, so if she’s wrong and it doesn’t happen that way. It makes the outcome even sweeter.

I don’t know I can’t explain that reasoning, I guess that’s just the way some people are.

expect the best, but plan for the worst.

maybe comes across cranky…..but not cranky.

Not sure if you realize this but lots of players gets lots of body parts taped up and bandaged before going out on the field for precautionary measures. This sounds just like one of those deals… stop worrying so much

Let him sit the first half of the season if need be. Chances are if Gates would have given his toe more time. It wouldn’t have crippled him up for what? The last 5 year’s. This is a brutal injury for a man of his size. The Buc’s med staff blew this one. His play got worse and worse each game. As the injury got worse. His last 2 games he was useless. So why they decided to play him? Trueblood or any other O-line backup would have been better. Still remember VS the Vik’s. Him just getting schooled off the ball. We may never see the probowl Nick’s again. Heck if it flares up we may never see Nick’s again.

The team had their best rushing game without him @robert. I wouldn’t worry. He can come back in mid season if he wants/needs to. No need to worry
