Stocker Injury Further Opens TE Competition
July 24th, 2013There is an injured Buccaneer as training camp opens. That would be Luke Stocker, who’s been plagued by nagging ailments throughout his career.
Greg Schiano said today that a tweaked muscle will cut Stocker’s action this week.
“Luke has a little calf,” Schiano said.
Joe’s only down on this because of Stocker’s history. He’s got to stay healthy.
One name to watch among the many tight ends in Bucs camp is Zach Miller. He caught 45 balls for 470 yards and five touchdowns with Jacksonville from 2009-2011. But a shoulder injury sent him to injured reserve early in the 2011 season, and hamstring and chest muscle injuries got him waived before the start of 2012.
Joe chatted with Bucs tight ends coach Brian Angelichio about Miller today. The scouting report? “I think he brings an element in the passing game, has a good catch radius, can get down the field. I think he’ll continue to get stronger and get back the more he gets playing and in the system. But he’s a guy who’s played football.”

Not good news, might be worth mentioning that the Eagles TE Brent Celek has been pushed down the depth chart with the addition of Zach Ertz. Could be a good addition

I remember this guy was supposed to be the next Jason Witten. LOL

We don’t need another TE…the cream will rise to the top. This year at least.
July 24th, 2013 at 1:33 pm
Im not usually down on one of our own players but this guy frustrating. hes supposed to step up this year but he cant even stay healthy.
July 24th, 2013 at 1:35 pm
That explains us sniffing at FA TE’s.
July 24th, 2013 at 1:36 pm
Crabtree is gonna take that spot….he is just as good, if not better in the blocking game, and has the skill to get open and catch.
July 24th, 2013 at 1:40 pm
Here we go again. Look I say give Noble, Crabtree, Miller and everyone else a chance. It’s not like he is that great.
July 24th, 2013 at 1:42 pm
its a minor calf thing.
big deal. nicks hasn’t been healthy since he got here. don’t hear people complaining.
July 24th, 2013 at 1:44 pm
@ Bonzai
The league wide consensus is we have powdered milk as opposed to cream at TE. I’m starting to think their argument has merit.
Miller, Noble Stocker have all had injury issues.
Now Stocker’s legs can’t withstand the extra bulk?
Anybody hear how Shincoe looked yesterday?
July 24th, 2013 at 1:44 pm
He’s only hurt…for now. Where in the article did it say a “tweaked muscle” is going to prevent him from playing time? He does get injured a helluva lot though.
July 24th, 2013 at 1:47 pm
it’s those damn sprints!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 24th, 2013 at 1:49 pm
Stocker may end up replacing Myron Lewis as my least favorite Buc…..hasn’t been worth it from the start….I realize we get our draft picks cheaper for a few years and we have an investment in them, but if they don’t perform….
GET RID OF THEM!!!
July 24th, 2013 at 1:53 pm
yeah fire the bum who strains a muscle working out 6 hours a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 24th, 2013 at 2:13 pm
@robert
So, you think Stocker has been worth it? I would fire him for lack of performance for two years…..we moved up in the 4th round to get him and he has been mediocre so far.
July 24th, 2013 at 3:26 pm
“.we moved up in the 4th round ”
In my opinion, the fourth round is the definition of mediocre, except on rare occasions, no big loss.
July 24th, 2013 at 3:56 pm
well if thats the case then why ever trade up in the 4th.
July 24th, 2013 at 5:16 pm
Knowing Stocker he’ll end up on the PUP list. He always gets injured this time of year.
July 24th, 2013 at 5:47 pm
“fourth round is the definition of mediocre”..
All the CONTLESS— HALL of FAMERS—SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS-MVP’S-ALL PROS-PRO BOWLERS..drafted in the 4th, 5th, 6th and beyond (+UDFA) And you would make a statement like that..smh
EXAMPLE ONE OF THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME
Deacon Jones
NFL Draft: 1961 / Round: 14 / Pick: 186
Depends on the competency and diligence of your scouting department/front office. And the coaches ability to coach them up.
July 24th, 2013 at 5:48 pm
*COUNTLESS..smh

A calf injury? From what? This is ridiculous. He must have went too hard, too long on the couch. I remember running bleachers repeatedly with ankle weights for months at Rice Stadium, before our season. Talk about pain and strain. You have to fight through it and this guy is about ready for the scrap heap. They have guys coming off serious injuries rehabbing hard and you know it’s painful. Then this clown is out every time he gets a hang nail. Maybe it’s time to put Dotson at TE and Carimi at RT.

He just strained a calf muscle and will have it treated for a few days. Big whoop! This certainly won’t be the only injury that puts a guy in the infirmary or on the sidelines this Training Camp. You guys are just ruthless. Good idea to cut our current starting TE.
