The Bucs’ woeful pass rush won’t be rescued by former USF defensive end George Selvie anytime soon.
Selvie was signed by the Bucs in March but was booted from the team late yesterday as part of roster changes to make room for the following guys on the 90-man roster.

No, Joe didn’t think journeyman Selvie was some sort of Bucs savior. However, the Bucs’ pass-rush conundrum is still there.
The New Schiano Order is a letting so much ride on the backs of DaQuan Bowers and Adrian Clayborn. Remember, for those yearning for rockstar general manager Mark Dominik to sign John Abraham or Dwight Freeney make a late move for a pass rusher, Dominik told Sirius NFL Radio last week not to expect another big signing from the Bucs because they’re happy with their roster.

Even the best secondary will be exposed, with no pass rush.

With our much improved secondary we can give the guys up front a few more precious seconds to get to the QB. I don’t think the situation is too dire as long as Bowers and Clayborn can stay healthy this season.

I have this weird feeling that Gholston is going to be our next great pass rusher. He could be a bust but his body style is alot like Simeon Rice and he apparently can dominate when he wants to. Its up to the Schiano order to get the most out of him but this is the guy I am banking on. Apparently he has some motivation issues.

this isn’t the same D as when sapp and rice where here. then the line got pressure from the front 4’s strength with the backfield playing zone.
theis D is all about blitzing …from anywhere and everywhere and stunts to get pressure with the backfield being more man coverage oriented. with the proper backfield in place the blitzing could cause havoc…because that millisecond the QB pauses because we have a strong backfield….well here comes the blitzer……and BOOM goes the dynamite.

DT…I could care less about the DEs. We have talent there. I’m more concerned with Roy Millers replacement and depth at DT, along with oline depth.
GMC had a good season last year, but what if he gets injured again? We’d be screwed. And next to him is a spot that has no clarity at all atm.

It appears that it is just not in the Buc DNA to hire older accomplished D-Line players on one year contracts. Belichick does this all the time and usually successfully, like Andre Carter, and now Tommy Kelly.
John Abraham and Dwight Freeney, if used on a rotational basis still have something left in the tank. What valuable experience would Clayborn get if he could learn From Freeney how to spin off of a block? With the mindset that Abraham has now toward the Dixie Chicks, he would pay money to get his hands on Matt Ryan.
This is useless rhetoric on my part to bring this up because they seem diametrically opposed to such moves. If we spend the kind of money we’re spending on Revis to win now, my opinion, but we’re putting a lot of faith and trust in a couple of rookie potential starters and two key defensive linemen coming off injuries when we could spend a few dollars more and buy some insurance!

Pretty obvious they want Means to be the next Freeney. Let’s not kid ourselves and expect pigs to be cleared for takeoff at TIA just yet.
If the rooks are deemed too raw and Freeney or Abraham are still there for say $3M, you pull the trigger.

Landri graded out very well in Philly, taking the majority of the snaps as a rotation guy. Gary Gibson did everything Miller did and was playing with nagging injuries.
The unknown is Spence.

I think that the addition of Dwight Freeney would prove to be a positive for the Bucs pass rush and defense as a whole. It would also allow the team to attack on 3rd downs with, what I see on paper, a powerful front four: Clayborne, Bowers (at DT), McCoy and Freeney off of the edge.
Highlights are exactly what they are, but the videos I have seen of Spence are nice. I hope that his quickness can translate to the pros and he has the drive to consistently improve his game.
That last part is what separates the stars from the ‘regular joes’ of pro sports and I hope that it is an attribute that Schiano is looking for in all of his newly acquired Buccaneer Men.

I don’t feel very good about the ends or tackles. Let’s not forget Gerald McCoy has been healthy for one season. What if he goes out again?
Where is the pass-rush coming from? Blitzing from everywhere sure went well in 2012 and when Sheridan ran the Giants.
I’d bet the Bucs will stop the run well again, but people are going to have all day to throw unless they expose Wright and Banks.

I still don’t get it why there was not more interest to bring Michael Bennett back. A DE-rotation of Clayborn-Bowers-Bennett would have been awesome and there would have been insurance in case of an injury.

Bucs fans are like little kids at the checkout counter. They keep crying and wanting to pull every damn colorful toy or piece of candy off the shelves because what they already have in the cart is never enough for them. But all they really end up doing is making a mess & lots of noise and pissing off the parents.
The fact is our cart is full enough. We don’t need any more. You can’t have every damned thing you want no matter how much you cry. Get over it and accept the fact that there are restraints for every team regarding salary cap in the current season as well as calculating future seasons’ requirements. Let the “parents” (Dominik & Schiano) do their job as they know best.

This is why I thought the 3rd round pick shouldn’t have been spent on a QB. Don’t get me wrong, I know we needed a better backup, I just wish we would have gotten him in the 4th round or traded up into the late 3rd round. The QBs didn’t start flying off the shelf until the 4th so I think we probably could have gotten him later in the 3rd.

The Bucs didn’t want him at the price he was asking. If they wanted him they have the money to sign him. He will be playing with one are the whole season. The reason why the are talking up Bowers is because he has a higher ceiling and he is their 2nd round pick. Greg is also talking up Bowers too so I’m pretty sure there is more to him.

I wish the Bucs picked up Glennon as a undrafted FA but he was expected to go in the 2nd or early 3rd and in my and the people that matters opinion he was a 3rd round draft pick. Keep in mind the additional value, Dominik mentioned that it saves a team 5 million plus in cap space to be able to develop a young QB as a viable backup over a vet. You can use that cap space money to improve other areas of your team like the O and D line or star players like a Revis.

Not in the least bit worried about our D-line. The receivers aren’t going to be wide open so the extra time will result in sacks and pressures.
