Idolizing Warrick Dunn
May 13th, 2013Who the hell wants to work on a Monday morning? That’s why you should catch this interview with rookie Bucs running back Mike James.
James is asked about his favorite team growing up and responds by saying he didn’t have a favorite team only favorite players, then he specifically mentions Warrick Dunn for his charity work. It was a classy and telling answer by one of the newest “Buccaneer Men.”
James hits on many topics and goes on to talk about how he’s most excited about impacting the Bucs on special teams, a wise take given that Doug Martin could be used more often than any other running in the NFL.

This guy sounds more and more like Earnest Graham. I hope he can be the “insurance” man for Doug.
I really like this pick, it sounds like our new RB group is hard working, on the same page, and eager to improve.
I wish Blount all the best in his new location.

The comparison with Graham is a good one, imo. I like all the new guys. Every interview makes them sound quite mature and truly team oriented.

Out of the gate he was already my favorite, or at least, most interesting, draft pick. Glad to hear that his head is probably in the right place. Warrick may not have been the biggest NFL player but he sure had one of the biggest hearts.

It is easy to root for this guy, what a level headed kid! I hope he is the #2 back. Go Bucs

i must admit that aside from a highlight video i saw of him a few months ago, i didn’t know much at all about Mike James. the more i read about him, and the more interviews i see with him, i can honestly say that he is one of the draft picks i am most excited about. he has the kind of attitude and selflessness that is a coach’s dream. if he is surrounded by the right kind of guys, those traits can be contagious. he will probably never be a 1,000 yard rusher, but he will do all of the little things (in practice, in the film room, off the field, on the sideline, 4th down) that will lead to success for this team.

It’s all good if this kid can play like EG too. There were some pretty good backs we had a shot at. It is imperative he can take some carries. If the drop off is significant, Schiano will run DMart into the ground like Gruden did to Caddilac.

Big Marlon,
I don’t know if this is the highlight tape you saw, but watch his receiving skills out of the backfield. This is where he improves the offense!

Warrick Dunn sucked for the Bucs. Out of 6 years here, only 2 were more than 1,000 yards.
By any other players standards, that is not good enough. Not only that, he betrayed the Bucs by going to the Falcons (where he played better), a division rival. Then he came back to the Bucs, retired and became part owner of the Falcons.
He had no loyalty whatsoever. I understand sometimes a player must play for another team…but a division rival???? And play better there than the team that saw enough potential in him to draft him?
Sorry, good guy in communities, but not worthy of mention as a Buc.

Those of you that haven’t watched this guy throughout college your in for a treat. He can do it all like Earnest but is much more of an effective running back in terms of production. IMO He has the talent to eventually be a starter somewhere but I’m stoked to have him here to team up with Dougie. A nice 1-2 punch.

yup Macabee, that’s the one! he will definitely help the offense, i didn’t mean to leave that out…i probably could’ve worded that part a little better. but my main point was that even beyond his production, his team first attitude will be a MAJOR contribution to the team.
after listening to him speak, it’s impossible not to immediately like the guy. hell…even though i’m 6’3″ and 175 lbs, i’d run full speed into a linebacker after talking to him lol. guys like that will build that family mentality and make everyone want to lay it on the line for each other.

@Big Marlon B:
You must be starving to weigh so low at that height.

Nope I actually eat like an animal, it’s ridiculous. My tapeworm is quite satisfied. Thanks for your concern though jerk0ff.

I’m guessing he was a team captain at the U.He also sounds intelligent he wasn’t speaking ebonix or some other mumbo jumbo. I think this kid is going to be an excellent addition to the running game. He’ll be able to keep Doug Martin fresh plus catch passes out of the backfield which Blount wasn’t known for. I don’t see him wasting his career on some other ignornt bastard in a barfight he said he doesn’t drink he has a hell of a stride and some weight behind his pads he runs like a gazelle. He was also emphaitc about willing to play special teams you lay out a few players on kickoff or punt return team coaches start wanting to throw you a bone.

@buccaneer bonzai you must be on bath salts you have obviously never been offered more than a gift certificate at walmart. Warrick Dunn wanted to play in Tampa but Atlanta paid him to play there. He was featured in a one back set in Atlanta utilizing a fullback hence forth the statistical differences why don’t you read his book and rise above emotion before you start yapping that ignorant ragtime
May 14th, 2013 at 6:19 am
Bonzai: Didn’t Dunn have a running mate with whom he shared the backfield that limited his carries? You may remember that the tandem had a catchy nickname…WD40! He might not be a HOF candidate but he didn’t “suck”.

@gorillapimp
I agree with some of your points….but if Dunn was featured in a one back set in Atlanta, how did they utilize a fullback? If a fullback is on the field in a one back set, that would mean Dunn is either in the slot, split out wide, or standing on the sideline.
I’m assuming you just made a mistake and misspoke. You can see how that makes absolutely no sense, right?
