“He Was Such A Film Guy”
May 8th, 2013Leave it to No. 99 to imply that Ronde Barber retired because he wasn’t offered enough money for 2013.
Warren Sapp does just that in this NFL Network “Total Access” video.
But Sapp also talked about Barber’s role and work in the glory years.
“He was our criminal. He made sure everything was right where it was supposed to be, and then he was such a film guy,” Sapp said of Barber. “And he’d look so deep in the game plan and he’d know exactly that opportunity when he could go snatch one.”
Yes, Barber will be missed spiritually and literally. There’s no doubt the Bucs could have used Barber this season.

“Such a film guy” That is the ultimate compliment to me.

This officially marks the end of an era.
I’m torn because I believe that Ronde could have actually helped the Bucs in 2013……
BUT
I understand that with the addition of the FA’s and draft picks Ronde probably felt that his playing time would be reduced and that after the season the Bucs would give him the Brooks treatment (I’m still bitter about that one; Black Tuesday)
Ronde thanks for all the work, dedication and committment to the Bucs – you will be missed.

Hey Sapp how’s the Chapter 11 working out for you?
May 8th, 2013 at 8:54 pm
Leave it to twinkykilla to make a stupid comment.

I doubt he’d come back right away and not forfeit that well earned vaca every retiree deserves if we offered him a gig on the team.
We should try to get him back into that locker-room by any means for our rookies sake too.

Do I spy Raheem in the background?

Yeah. RA rah

Hey Joe, any ideas who he will be “competing” against in his first year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame?

Its been a great ride Ole buddy. I’ve never had a problem with my boys idolizing you, because; what I believe you stand for. What you have given all of us; on and off the field goes without measure.
Mr. Ronde Barber, you’re a class act and a true warrior!!
Quote:
“Simply fighting doesn’t make a warrior. There are rules a warrior follows.”
Because a warrior has a code that he lives by which is influenced by morals which must be justified.”….And you Mr Barber have earned your strips under fire!!

Breaking News: Ronde Barber calls Josh Freeman a sissy.
Feb. 2014: Bucs win the Super Bowl.

@Max
Learn to respect the moment. Save that B.S for another thread. Thank You!

@ Fear the Glow–
So far, it looks to be:
Scott Fujita
Jason Hanson
John Kasay
Nate Kaeding
Shawne Merriman
Donald Driver
Ray Lewis
Ronde
Looking at that list, I see one slam dunk, and two maybes (Ronde and Hanson). I was just taking a look at other HoF years coming up, and there is going to be some non first years that they will be going up against as well. I did not realize this, but Kurt Warner, Walter Jones, Derrick Brooks, Isaac Bruce, Kevin Mawae, Zack Thomas and Junior Seau all retired the same year…how many of those guys get “caught up” in a down year like this? In 2011, there was Favre. Last year was Hines Ward, Ladainian Tomlinson, Ricky Williams, Jason Taylor, and Torry Holt.
Realistically, I think both Lynch and Ronde are going to have a long road to hoe, based on looking at the people that did not get in this year, and those that are coming up soon. Wish em the best of luck, but this list really emphasizes how hard getting into the HoF really is.

When a guy like Darelle Revis said he wanted Ronde back so he can learn a few things from him, that tells you something. I hope he sticks around the facilities and shares some knowledge, at least for this season……… Broadcasting and Bright House commercials can wait.

Get ready for “Barber Watch”

@LUVMYBUCS
Just making a joking reference to when Tiki retired and called out Eli and then the Giants go on to win the superbowl.

We should have another Ronde Barber Day again. The whole house would be packed with 20s. … 🙂
…on another note, I wonder how much KR Josh Cribbs is asking for?
May 9th, 2013 at 2:27 am
that fuking son of a bich Sapp. like someone else said leave it to Sapp to ruin the moment. I respect Ronde Barber more than I do that egomaniac “look at me Im special” Sapp. I miss you already Ronde. we really could have really used you this upcoming season.
the more Sapp talks, the less I like him.
we will get by though. heres to the bucs making the playoffs.

@ 4everBucsFan
Id be all for a Ronde Barber day. he deserves that much.
May 9th, 2013 at 7:36 am
Great player, but it saddens me he had to be subjected to the Raheem Morris Mark Dominik era. I’m sure it killed him being on a team that almost set an NFL record for passing yards allowed. Bad enough he had to endure the buccaneer record for points allowed, and ten game losing streak, no playoffs, plus repeated team humiliations and ineptitude.
Too bad we couldn’t have kept Gru and Bruce, with committed owners, where he could have gotten some more playoff time.
Ah well.
May 9th, 2013 at 8:36 am
Thanks for everything Ronde….The consummate professional
May 9th, 2013 at 8:44 am
I predict Schiano offers a position on his coaching staff. Notice how Coach also went to 20 to verify a scheme? My question is, if Barber does join the Bucs staff does that delay his HoF induction?
May 9th, 2013 at 9:35 am
Andrew:
you shouldnt take Warren’s comments so personal. he’s just tryin to keep his current gig at all costs, so he’s using the Shaun King method – talk out of ass to stir up drama and keep ratings up and stay employed.
Kings gotta payoff his McDonalds expenses, Sapps gotta payoff his alimony expenses.

Eric:
“Too bad we couldn’t have kept Gru and Bruce, with committed owners, where he could have gotten some more playoff time.”
sarcasm?? Gru and Bruce were all about Gru and Bruce. they rehauled the team every year with a different set of old players. and nobody explained to Bruce Allen what a salary cap is. they fu*ked us and put up their deuces.
May 9th, 2013 at 9:45 am
For those that didn’t actually look at the link, in NO WAY did Sapp directly or indirectly that the BUC didn’t offer Barber enough money. He was speaking in generality of the NFL and ALL pro sports.
“You know the way they do those old veteran players with that long, great resume. They wanna give ’em the minimum money.”–Sapp
Wasn’t even worth mentioning.

Playing football hurts. Playing football is hard. Playing in Florida in August is a nightmare. Let’s be honest, normal folks like us get drenched in sweat checking the mailbox. I’m Ronde’s age and my knees hurt just walking from my desk to the water cooler – and that’s from four years of HS football. I can’t imagine sixteen.
If he didn’t want to play for less money, I can totally understand. God bless him. He is what makes us proud to be Bucs fans.

Leave it to Eric to use this opportunity to take a shot at the FO of the current regime. *Stay classy*
