Penn said he felt “stabbed” in the stomach
Donald Penn looks fit to Joe, and he is fit, so claimed the Bucs brass today after today’s OTA session at One Buc Palace.
Penn unloaded on the hurt and confusion he felt by the PewterReport.com report Monday that claimed his weight was a serious issue with the Buccaneers.
Penn ripped the publication for lying via profane tirades on Twitter on Monday, but today Penn was calm and offered more details to Joe and other media.
“I just hope it’s not going to be a trend,” Penn said of inaccurate media claims about his weight. “Last offseason, [Tampa Bay Times Bucs beat writer] Rick Stroud came out with something, some true, a lot of it was false. It seems like this year, you know, it came out again, some more false stuff. You know, I don’t do anything to anybody. I’m a happy-go-lucky guy and it seems like people are trying to attack me. But you know, I’m going to be bigger and better than that. I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did. I wish I could take it back.
“You know, me and [Greg] Schiano, we had a lot of talks last year about where he wanted my weight. Because we had a disagreement on where he wanted and where I thought I should be. And you know at the end of the day, that’s a battle that I’m not going to win. And I bought in and I’ve done everything he’s asked me to do. I’ve done everything Mark [Dominik’s] asked me to do since [the start of] last year. And for that to come out, after I’ve been doing everything that I’ve done, it really like kind of stabbed me in the stomach.
“Where’d that come from? I know it didn’t come from the Bucs because all I’ve been getting from them is praise and they’re happy with what I’ve been doing and how I came back in April 15 in my football weight. Usually I get down to it when I come back, but I came back already at the weight he wants me to play at. And for that little stupid report to come out, I don’t know, I guess [PewterReport.com] has nothing else to talk about.
As Joe wrote yesterday, Penn is being unfairly targeted.
Rockstar general manager Mark Dominik said today that Penn “is right on par with what we would have hoped and expected from Donald Penn. I think anything else has kind of been exaggerated.” Greg Schiano concurred during his post-practice news conference.

Pewter Report usually has a higher standard than this kind of stuff. Their quality and substance have degraded this year. I hope they can once again return to form and then I will go back to that site. Until then It’s All Joe baby!

I’ve changed my mind about Penn’s twitter blasts. If the media isn’t getting the story right, I can’t blame the player for speaking up.
Meeting Schiano’s expectations cant be easy.

For years Pewter Report has been charging for regurgitated product that can be gleaned elsewhere. They have not had a higher standard in a very long time.
Take their mocks…they pretty much predict every player possible so that they can claim they call it. They see a story elsewhere and rewrite it, attributing to unnamed sources because they do not want to give credit.
And the content you pay for? Strictly opinionated mush. Most of it inaccurate.
Perhaps you enjoy their website and product. So don’t take these comments personally. I’m not attacking you, I just can’t stand the people at PR.

No pun taken, I hear you. I like mark cook and SR, I think their talented but I just can’t understand why they could go from being an upper echelon outlet to a nonfactor so fast! I use to get all my insight from the FAB 5 and the grades were something I looked forward to after heartbreaking losses.
Once I noticed the quality degradation I stopped paying and didn’t renew my subscription. What a shame!

Now that Scott Reynolds’ Fab Five is no longer behind the pay wall I’m also considering letting my subscription lapse. Their digital magazine isn’t what it once was and doesn’t seem worth paying for any longer. They simply take all their analysis from the previous 3 months or so and rehash it in one place and call it a “magazine”. Nothing new is reported or analyzed and I find myself just skimming through it instead of taking time to really chew on each article like I did 2-3 years ago. It’s a shame, really, because those guys used to be the gold standard for Bucs reporting and analysis (no offense to Joe).

I love the emotion Penn plays with on Sundays, but in this case, quit griping man. So someone in sports media wrote an offseason opinion piece he disagreed with, whatever. Grow up, be a man, keep handling your business, and don’t let your weight get out of control. End of non-story.
