The New GMC
April 17th, 2013Joe always had a fondness for Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy while fans tried to run him out of town when he struggled early in his career and was often hurt. McCoy showed last year just what kind of player he can be when healthy, and oh yeah, had some coaching.
In his first full season healthy, GMC made the Pro Bowl. Many NFLers would be leaning on that experience, but not GMC. Whatever happened in 2012 is history and GMC has turned the page. Quickly, as Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune pointed out.
“I’m not a Pro Bowler — not anymore,’’ McCoy said Tuesday, the second day of Tampa Bay’s offseason program. “That was last year. I haven’t done anything this year. Right now, I’m just a guy. That’s my motivation.’’.
Now Joe knows words can be empty and actions speak louder than any words. But GMC had the look in his eye Tuesday of a man driven to play January football. When he uttered the line above, he looked straight ahead with zero emotion. The same type of reaction you might get from a guy if you asked, “Hey, did you ever go to grade school?”
Joe hopes this attitude permeates One Buc Palace. There is time to work and time to play. You put in the work, you can play in January.
Yeah, it’s only April. But Joe liked what little he got to see — and hear — from GMC Tuesday.

I never understood the GMC hate. He has always been a force when healthy.

Clearly, #93 continues to take big steps in his development as a pro. I’m happy he’s ours.
With young, elite talent at each level of the defense, this group could be scary good this season.

GMC dominated in the interview yesterday….so did Davin Joseph!!!!
April 17th, 2013 at 8:21 am
Man, it sure would be nice if we could put Sheldon Richardson on that line next to GMC.
April 17th, 2013 at 8:25 am
“Words can be empty.” – Especially in McCoy’s case.

Bowers, Star, GMC, Clayborn
Do this Dom!
April 17th, 2013 at 8:34 am
Can’t wait to see what GMC can do with a beast next to him.
Star, Richardson, Ansah one of those would be tremendous.
If they are not there, maybe one of the 3 OTs, and then Tavon (lol, yes over Eifert).

He had 5 sacks last year relax
April 17th, 2013 at 8:42 am
Joc you obviously dont understand what his job is, he is to push the pocket and help the ends get sacks, if the ends dont get the sacks they should atleast be able to push the qb back into mccoy, he did a fine job playing his position, which his peers n coaches around the job also seem to see, which you obviously dont.

McCoy & Sheldon Richardson (whom i introduced to EVERYONE in January) will wreak havoc this year!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 17th, 2013 at 8:47 am
Exactly Joc. The Pro bowl means less than squat. Especially since the event was totally ruined by scheduling it right before the Super Bowl. I’m not going to jump on Geraldine’s band wagon until he shows me something. I’ve yet to be impressed. The legacy of the Buc’s Defense is far too grand to be impressed with anything he’s done so far. I hope he totally shows out but I have serious doubts.

What does any of this have to do with Revis?
April 17th, 2013 at 8:50 am
@mpmalloy hahahaha
April 17th, 2013 at 8:51 am
Unless he shows you something? Are you joking? He was had a top 3 performance at DT last year.
April 17th, 2013 at 8:55 am
I’m all aboard Mccoy being the leader of this defense. He’s always had the skills and the mouth to be a true leader. Now with some good coaching, no injuries and some support cast around him (Clayborn, Bowers, 1st round DE/DT,etc) lets se what he develops into.
April 17th, 2013 at 8:58 am
For those who have not gone out to the Bucs website to watch McCoys and Josephs press conferences, I would highly recommend you do so. McCoy seems to have grown up immensely and now just seems to ooze confidence and leadership. I am betting the future for this guy is off the charts!

McCoy looked like his back was hurting him. Notice how he kept shifting positions from one side to the other leaning on the podium. I remember having difficulty finding a comfortable stance when my back hurt. He just came from a hard workout so maybe that was the issue. Joseph stood rock solid.
April 17th, 2013 at 9:39 am
He could have been having leg spasms. I always do after working out.
GMC is even looking different these days. His body has matured. I know people say he should keep his mouth shut, but Warren Sapp ran his mouth a LOT more.
At least McCoy has a clean mouth, lol.
I predict 9-13 sacks for McCoy this year.

@Rachelwatson’sthong You don’t know alot about the X’s and O’s of football do you?
April 17th, 2013 at 10:00 am
Ian Beckles or Shaun King will find something negative to say about this.
Keep doing your thing GMC!
April 17th, 2013 at 10:23 am
STAR please!!! I would be okay with Richardson but star is a much better fit bcus he is bigget and stronger. He would provide much better run support n push/clog the middle of the line. Richardson plays like GMC. Dont get me wrong, another GMC would still be beastly however, he could benefit more from a more complimentary plary like star
April 17th, 2013 at 10:45 am
One of those top 3 DTs should be our first pick, imo. Need to focus on the pass rush first, then the CBs.
April 17th, 2013 at 12:16 pm
Give me Richardson over Star. I’d rather have a guy who proved himself in the SEC. I like his attitude. Star is just too calm.
April 17th, 2013 at 4:35 pm
I have never taken part in the GMC hate. I think that as his DEs improve, he will have a monster year.
