This explains a lot more why they let Bennett walk. I think they were betting on getting Revis and wanted to keep as much cap space intact as possible. Revis>Bennett…..that simple. Roy Miller I’m thinking was a medical issue.

Absolutely, a no brainer! Jets held no cards. Bucs maybe could have done even better….but who’s second-guessing….especially the no guarantee part.

Miller and Bennett leaving are well understood… And it was Bennett who had the medical issue (torn labrum or rotator cuff, can’t remember). The Bucs felt their values were not what they were seeking. They still could’ve paid Revis if they had signed Bennett and Miller.

Couldn’t help but laugh to myself when I saw a promo for the draft with Mel Kiper Jr. hyping Dee Milliner as “possibly the next Darrelle Revis.” It’s nice that we have the actual Darrelle Revis now.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Nobody has won this trade yet. If Revis re-tears the ACL in practice then we clearly “lost” the deal. We won the deal if Revis is and remains healthy.

Oh, we won . And it was one of the most one sided victories I’ve seen in a while. We got the best defensive player in the league, for virtually nothing. There is no player in this draft, who will be as good of a pro as Revis.
The contract was a huge win, as Revis has to “earn it” every year.
The only question on this deal has nothing to do with the poor, mugged Jets.
The question is, Is any Cornerback worth 16 million dollars a year. That’s Aaron Rodgers/Tom Brady/Drew Brees money.
We overpaid for Goldson( who , despite that, is the best safety in the game). And we entered uncharted waters for Revis.
The trade itself raped the Jets. And their fan base knows it

Nobody “wins” anything on trades. We already know the status of things. If Revis plays up to his former standard, we got a very good value. If he does not, not so much. If Revis knee situation was going to limit his future abilities even before the trade, then the Jets got a good value. Anything in between is all gray area. Why do there have to be further discussions about who won or lost the trade? We’re all glad Revis is here and hoping for the best w/r/t his knee. Nuff said.

How many true lock down cover corners in the league? 2? They are rare and the price for rare talents is high.
Okay, so the Bucs lose Bennett and Miller and add Revis and Goldson. But, they are also adding back Nicks and Joseph. That’s a ton of talent added for a team that faded down the stretch last year. It’s playoffs or bust this year, especially for Freeman.
Even after the draft, we still have the second wave of free agency before training camp, though with rookie wages being lower now it isn’t as active as it used to be. But there are still a few teams out there without the room to sign all of their draft picks, Atlanta and New Orleans being two of them.
The Bucs still have the cap space to sign another impact player.

I agree. Revis truly is a rare talent. (And is most definitely paid like one.) My point was that Revis simply needs to remain healthy for us to truly “win” this deal. If Revis stays healthy then this is highway robbery for a first and third.
I also agree that the rest of the roster can be filled out by roster cuts and cap casualties after the draft.

Im pretty sure everyone knows that its up to Josh Freeman. If he plays middle of the road we have a playoff team no question. But we’re kind of in a win win situation with him this season at least. If he plays well, we will have a great team. If he plays like he has been, we won’t have to see him anymore.

Revis will surely be an asset to the Bucs defense SO LONG AS JF and the offense doesn’t continuously go 3 and out OR throw INTs….. Oh well!

The contract is not guaranteed. If Revis’s performance doesn’t live up to $16 mil per, the Bucs always have the right to force him to take a paycut. Also, Revis is getting to that age were his legacy will not allow him to hold out, unless he is a total moron.

While it’s all a big unknown at this point, at least we are’nt whining about the Glazer’s lack of spending.
I do think Revis will be a huge boost for this teams attitude, or lack thereof. Goldson will bring the swag as well.
BTW, for the Milliner home skillets, he’s got his own injury issues, so no lock there.

I will be happy if we get the Freeman we had last year. We had leads in the fourth quarter 4 times last year and our defense gave it up. Is that Freemans fault hell no!If we had Goldson,and Revis last year we are probably 10 and 6 or 11 and 5. So get off his back he had 3 bad games last year. I know that all qb have bad games just ask Breese, and Ryan 5 int. games.

Let’s face it folks – THIS TRADE IS DOMINIK’S BRING IT OR BUST.
The Defense definately upgraded this off-season.
The Offense should be better with a healthy O-Line.
The ONLY question about the Bucs making it to the playoffs in 2013 is how will Josh Freeman play?
Come on Josh all you have to do is have a Trent Dilfer year and the bucs should be in the playoffs.

@Bob, During the Dilfer years we learned to rely on the defense to win the games and it was called Dungy Ball.
Say what YOU want about Dungy Ball but the Bucs were ALWAYS in every game right down to the wire. Dilfer didn’t win games for the Bucs but he also didn’t lose games like Freeman did last year!

If the Bucs play pass defense this year, and it looks like they will be able to, we won’t need to worry about Freeman too much. Freeman is light years better than every QB they’ve ever had except maybe Brad Johnson, but Johnson couldn’t light it up downfield like Free… Just give us pass D and this team is in the playoffs… and will give people hell once they get there.

That is 11 guys at a minimum you expect to have pro bowl caliber seasons. You are damn right this is Dominik’s put up or shut up season. And we haven’t even hit the draft yet, where the rock star found 6-8 good players in the last two years. (martin, david, barron, clayborn, bowers, foster, stocker, black)
And for all the flack Dominik has taken for the 2010 draft, it still produced McCoy, Mike Williams and Erik Lorig, as well as dekoda watson, cody grimm and joe’s favorite buc, myron lewis.
I’m getting worked up and it’s only April. I don’t think just getting in the playoffs is enough for this roster. You have the best offensive player in franchise history in Jackson, a grating offensive line to go with the Hamster. And just like the good old days, superstars at every level of the defense with McCoy, David, Revis and Goldson. Might be time to name our new defense the T3.

The Revis trade was a win win win, for all involved.
Idzik was compromised by a bad owner, and a previous Jets GM.
He did the best he could for his team, under the bad hand he was dealt.

Revis makes immediately better than any player we could have HOPED to have gotten in this draft. For that reason alone Mark Dominik won this trade.
Giving up ONE 1st rounder (in the middle of the round) in an extremely weak draft – and ONE 3rd rounder in NEXT years draft to do it – adds to the winning that Dom pulled off.
Doing a deal with arguably one of the best players in football – for no more up front cash, and if the worst case scenario happens and he cant play – it won’t cost you anything if you decided to cut him?
That’s why we call him “The Rockstar”…
I can not WAIT for the season to start!

We stole revis no guareented money and a first and third .so if revis does fizzle out we lost out on a first rounder basically who Mabey could have been good or mabey there the m. Clayton or g. Adams I’d rather roll the dice on the best corner back in the league with a knee injury

Tthe team is improved, but I don’t think Bennett will be missed so much as Miller. The Bucs have got to get a good DT…and it wouldn’t hurt to get two. DE can actually be addressed by free agency for this year.
