Orhian Johnson Stroked At One Buc
April 14th, 2013NFL Draft smokescreens are everywhere, and today some puffs bellowed across the 98.7 FM local airwaves, as Ohio State safety Orhian Johnson talked about his recent invitation-only workout and grilling at One Buc Palace late last week.
Johnson, once a quarterback at Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport, told host Drew Felios that he believes he’s a great fit for the Bucs and could be a key contributor at nickel cornerback.
Johnson is a unique prospect. He was only a backup safety last season at OSU but has superior measurables. He’s 6-3, 215, and runs a 4.5, 40-yard dash with great leaping ability. He totaled six interceptions during his Buckeyes career.
Johnson said today that he’s been advised he could go as high as the fourth round.
It’s interesting that the Bucs would even invest so much pre-draft energy into a safety prospect with Mark Barron and Dashon Goldson locked up for years, and Ahmad Black and last year’s sixth-round pick, Keith Tandy, on the roster.
Perhaps it was the Bucs that put the nickel-cornerback bug in Johnson’s head?

Hopefully Barber this year

Wow he must have 0 football instincts to have those measureables and still not start.
April 14th, 2013 at 4:40 pm
Maybe as a 6th rounder to compete at backup CB

Maybe the ex- Boca Ciega High School quarterback could replace Freeman and play cornerback. That would be cheaper than paying to QB’s 16 million each a year. Sorry, 1 QB and 1 CB 16 million each.

Wow…the nfl scouts on intangibles and Joe nailed it when he said this guy has all of them…urban meyers pride must’ve kept Johnson off the field because he turned down UF for OSU

I don’t know if I’d call talking to a guy like Johnson a “smokescreen.” I mean, we have to sign a bunch of UDFAs immediately after the draft, so we’ll talk to a lot of guys we likely wouldn’t draft, or might only draft in the 6th or 7th rounds.
Also, Dom and Schiano said they were going to be paying more attention to measurables this year, and at least this guy has noteworthy measurables.

Johnson is a definite UDFA as rated by NFLdraftScout. There is a safety out of Richmond I hope they take a look at – Cooper Taylor, 6-5, 228 and a 4.55 forty in the 6th round. Dexter McCoil out of Tulsa is another prospect worthy of a look!

If we draft ss at any round I would like shamarko Thomas this kid is gonna be a beast and he could probably the nickel with his 4.3 speed

Had his name been Roby I’d believe it, that kid is also a 1st round talent.

If we do target a safety in this draft, DJ Swearinger should suffice. I’d love for us to get him, but he’ll go 2nd or 3rd and we have other pressing needs.
