Jets Blogger Has Lost His Mind

April 10th, 2013

Joe Caporoso, the owner/operator and editor of the Jets blog TurnOnTheJets.com, must really be suffering from cabin fever in the worst way.

Why? Because he is beginning to sound like a man grasping in vain for a flotation device as he struggles to keep his head above water before succumbing to the sea.

Caporoso claims Jets general manager John Idzik is going to successfully blackmail Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik not just for this year’s No. 13 pick, but for up to four draft picks total in return for cornerback Darrelle Revis or else Idzik will turn in Dominik for tampering.

@TurnOnTheJets: Re: the tampering discussion on Bucs/Revis – They are fair points but I think Idzik wouldn’t go public with the charges but would rather [p]ressure the Bucs behind the scenes to get as much as possible out of the trade for Revis, which I’m guessing happens in the next 7-10 days … Maybe he throws in a tampering charge threat behind the scenes to get another draft pick but I doubt he goes public with filing process [y]ou aren’t going to burn the bridge with your only trading partner, when you could get 3-4 picks from them

This is so absurd, Joe doesn’t know where to begin. Joe has written time and again that if anything, it is Dominik who has Idzik boxed in, not the other way around. Dominik and the Bucs do not need Revis. It’s really that simple. Now that the Bucs signed Eric Wright, Dominik drafts two corners in the first two days of the draft and the secondary issue is wrapped up. Done.

Does Caporoso really believe Idzik would try to shake down and strong-arm Dominik for four picks, including the No. 13 selection, or he will run to NFL warden commissioner Roger Goodell? And what crime exactly is Idzik going to cry to Goodell about that the Bucs committed  That the Bucs linked to an NFL Network video on their site? Really? Really?

Or that somehow it’s a cardinal sin to talk to Vincent Jackson’s agent, who just by coincidence is also Revis’ agent?

Caporoso seems like a good guy. And he has a helluva blog. But is sure seems like Caporoso needs some Florida warmth and sunshine. Cabin fever really screws with your mind, man.

It is really this simple: If Idzik is catching heat from Jets owner Woody Johnson, Dominik has Idzik over a barrel.

    Big deal

    Joe: can you find out what he is smoking. I would like to try some.

    He follows the Jets for cryin’ out loud….whadaya expect? If I had to write about that bunch I’d be making stuff up too. This is a team that traded for Tim Tebow. It’s nothing but wishful thinking by a Jets fan. LOL

  4. Red86 Says:

    New York media love drama. Jets are number one in the media but the Giants actually does the winning. lol.

  5. Sneedy16 Says:

    No GM is that stupid to tamper with other teams players since they know the cost. Plus I doubt that Vincent Jackson agent would want bad blood between him and Bucs since they are the only team that can currently pay Revis.

    If there is any tampering do the league take away the picks or give it to another team? If they take the picks away then the Jets would lose picks if they told so it doesn’t make sense. That’s like slapping me in the face then asking me for a favor.

  6. Sunny Says:

    No way bucs get charge unless revis agent says they tempered which won’t happen since you already have a high priced player with the bucs and hope next year to get another non issue

  7. kh Says:

    As I posted before this Buccaneers.com link is nothing – they link to every NFL.com video that involves the Bucs!

    Joe I will say this very nicely, so my point isn’t lost. I come here 5-10 times a day at the very least, sometimes more like 20 or 30 when I’m really bored or stuffs going down.

    Adam Schein is your buy, you quote him all the time, and from the outside it seems like you’re quite fond of him.

    If you do not put out an article baptizing him in the fire of Mount Doom, I will be the most disappointed in any website I have ever been in his life. I know you have seen the article. The one where he said we are forced to trade for Revis and break the bank or we’re going to be in last place and fire the FO, etc etc.

    ^^^This is before the draft. We could easily draft 2 CBs early and grab a TE. All our other needs have players in place who can handle it. We would then have 5 picks with which to bring in competition at our other areas of need with the best players available in round 4-6.

    I would love for you to respond to this comment, and Im really expecting you, who bring us Schein content regularly(normally him hating on us and our QB), to put this out there.

    Please Joe, dont let it slide. Every Buc fan should be up in arms about what that idiot dared to utter.

  9. bob Says:

    at most i would give 2nd this year and frist next year, at most….. but 2nd and fourth makes more sense. or just walk and get buccaneer men, not over priced trouble

  10. wisconsinbucsfans Says:

    Whatever, Revis getting boring, draft CB’s

    Andrew:

    Joe will have something tomorrow on the article in question. And yes, Joe very much enjoys Adam Schein.

  12. RastaMon Says:

    Revis has a home in TPA in 2014…..w/ zero comphensation to the Jets….this team is still trying to get into the playoffs…and only now showing signs of life after trading multiple 1st and 2nd round picks for the SB win……Patience Grasshoppers…

  13. Rob Says:

    3 or 4 draft picks? Sure. How about a 2014 1st rounder, and three 7th rounders.

  14. RastaMon Says:

    Say…why are not the Jets trying to keep Revis…

  15. tonytwocents Says:

    Not sure if Joe brought this up in the past, but I just realized that Dominik and Idzik worked side by side down here in Tampa both as player personell assistants for a while, and each slowly moved up the ladder, eventually with different teams.

    Maybe this stalemate is 90% business, and 10% personal. Plus, Idzik was here when we traded for another Jet, (Meshawn Johnson), and we gave up 2 1st round draft picks for him. Im sure Idzik knew the Keyshawn trade was encouraged by ownership, and he probably thinks this trade is no different. When the Glazers really want someone, (Keyshawn, Gruden), they see the big picture and wont hesitate to pony up high pics if they think it’ll get us over the hump.

    Besides, Dominik is done with the rebuilding phase of this team, now its about adding the “finishing touches”, or his days are numbered. With that said, I’d give up this years 1st and a 3rd, and a high pick next year (conditional). With Revis, we’ll get Ronde back for one more season, and our pass d will all of a sudden pull a 180.

  16. RastaMon Says:

    Anyone that thinks this team is in need of “finishing touches” is obviously high on HOF Fan “Big Nasties” flatulence…..

  17. 4everBucsFan Says:

    @RastaMon

    Exactly, they have gutted their roster and can afford to keep him. NY has the same equal amount as the Bucs to spend on their team. What is it 125 million? The difference is they don’t want to pay him 16 million like we seem to want too. Plus we want to give them a crap load of picks for a one year rental. Instead of waiting till next year when Revis walks away from the Jets.

  18. tonytwocents Says:

    weve been rebuilding for almost half a decade now! and a lot of you are still stuck in that mindset. we can play it safe and start a rookie alongside Wright, which would almost garuntee Barber’s retirement. Or we can do it big, and bring in Mr Revis, which would almost garuntee Barbers return. all of a sudden, we’ve got Revis, Golson, and Barber, which would boost the play of Barron and Wright. Itd be rediculous. The front seven would be unleased with an extra 1-2 seconds. Tampa would become “Shut Down City”.

    only a “Rasta” would know what you can and cant get high off of. btw, wheres your rebuttal. or has the haze messed with your ability to elaborate. just lie back, read, smoke, and stfu.

    “…Plus we want to give them a crap load of picks for a one year rental. Instead of waiting till next year when Revis walks away from the Jets.”

    like I said, we’re done with rebuilding. 4+ years of that now. there may not be a next year for Dom & others. you cant keep putting things off forever. we’ve played the rebuilding game right so far, thats why we have the cap room, and picks, for times like now.

  21. Vern4499 Says:

    @ForeverBucs Fan,

    A one year rental? Where have you seen anyone at all say the Bucs would do this trade and only have Revis for one year? The only way this trade gets done is if the Bucs first examine Revis and know how he is doing physically and second they work out a multi year deal. Which of course Joe has explained on here prob 100 times.

  22. 4everBucsFan Says:

    @tonytwocents

    I’d say you were brilliant if you could spell better, but I “garuntee” that would be “ridiculous”.

  23. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    I would laugh my arse off if Dominick pulled off another miracle trade and got Revis for 4 6th round picks. Fantasy I know…but I roll like that 😉

  24. 4everBucsFan Says:

    @Vern4499

    Revis walks away from the Jets next year. Why give up the farm for what amounts to a one year wait. Offer Revis a contract next year when he is an UFA and it want cost us any draft picks…..DUH!!!!

  26. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    But in all seriousness, I never and still do not believe the trade for Revis rumor is true. Nothing but media as I said from the beginning.

  27. stevek Says:

    Offer a 3rd and a 6th this year and a 2nd next year that can become a 1st if Revis hits incentives. After the draft starts, the offer becomes both 6th round picks this year.

    They can either: pay Revis for one more year and get a 3rd in 2014, or they can deal for a 3rd this year + a 6th this year + a 2nd next year with the potential to be a 1st.

    Revis should get a “prove me” 10,000,000.00 guaranteed contract, than can get as high as 15,000,000.00 with performance escalators. I say give the man a chance to earn his money. If Revis comes in, carries the damn mail, and turns the Bucs around, then it will be totally worth it.

    Imagine watching a hall of fame CB, in his prime, give Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, and sCam Newton headaches twice a year.

    In all seriousness, Revis is our Messiah.

  30. Vern4499 Says:

    @foreverbucsfan

    Then you are bidding against 31 other teams!!! Theirs you duh.

  31. 4everBucsFan Says:

    @stevek

    If that was honestly how it ended up, I would be all for it.

    In fact, I would nominate Dominik as GM of the year!

    To give NY so much compensation, just to get Revis a year early, I guess, does not resonate in my pea sized brain. I’m not convinced Revis is the same Revis either. So many are so willing to take a leap of faith when he actually may not be ready to contribute this year.

    I guess I’m a frugal “prove it” kind of guy.

    If we can get Revis without giving up too many early round draft picks, I’m all for it.

    But he has to completely clear medical, be 100% ready to start OTAs, and be reasonable on negotiating his salary.

  32. 4everBucsFan Says:

    @Vern4499

    If 30 teams are not interested in him now and his future $16 million demand, what makes you think there will be so many next year? ….duh?

  33. Jacko101 Says:

    Us and the jets are not in the same boat wen it comes to finances, we have double the cap, however they can afford Revis (possibly) but no other additions not even their upcoming draft picks. We all know the jets need Much more than Revis to contend that is the major reason they will be willing to dish Revis (the diva).

  34. 4everBucsFan Says:

    @Machiavellii

    Nice read.. thanks..

  35. BigMacAttack Says:

    So my son says today “Metallica vs Pantera”. I said man that’s a hard one. Thought about it all day and still can’t make a decision. I’d take Dimebag Darrell over Daryl Revis any day of the week. But Fade to Black, my mind is just blown over this, what little I have left.

  36. Jerry Says:

    4everBucsFan,
    There is no question Revis as a free agent would want to go to a team on the cusp of a super bowl. San Fran or even Atlanta would make a strong push for him.

    If the Freeman and/or the defense has a bad year, we are likely searching for a new GM, a new QB, and maybe even a new coach.

    One reason Dom wants Revis is probably because he knows he’s on the hot seat. His drafts have frankly been rather bad. And the Raheem experiment was a disaster.

  37. grif4foozball Says:

    Extortion is a crime that I would hope Goodell frowns upon and penalizes the a$$hole for it!

  38. NJBucsFan Says:

    Why has no one mentioned that using knowledge of an illegal or improper act to gain favorable leverage in negotiations is extortion? To think an NFL GM would extort another is way further off base than to think they can get 3-4 picks for him (A 2, 3 and 6 this year, with a conditional pick next year would be the most I’d give. A first rounder in any year is crazy to me).

  39. 4everBucsFan Says:

    @BigMacAttack

    Let me make it easy for you

    ……the chicks luv Metallica … 🙂

  40. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Machiavellii, good read. And a great reason to NOT get Revis.

  41. Bucfan20 Says:

    And to think way back when. Just after the season ended and the talk of the CB problems came up. The media said no way the Bucs go after Revis. Now it’s been one media circus.

  42. Cmurda Says:

    @BigMac

    Pantera! That was easy. Dont get me wrong I loved Metallica but I cant help but envision Lars whining about something such as Napster and whatnot. Little baby.

    Say yes to Revis. Look at the recent history of 1st round 13th overall picks and I’ll take my chances with the best CB in the game if he checks out with our medical staff. Give him 3 years $38 million, 1/2 of it guaranteed.

  43. feelthepewterpower Says:

    Is there any proof of tampering. I knew a Jets fan or blogger would come-up with this scenario. LOL It’s too easy of a scenario to think. Yes, let’s try to steal back leverage with false tampering charges! Ah yes, that’s the ticket!

  44. feelthepewterpower Says:

    I think If Idzik brings up “tampering”, I’d say bye-bye. You’re not getting any draft picks from us, and no other team is going to a) pay Revis that money and b) give-up high draft picks when he hits the market next season with injury concerns.. Jets should consider themselves lucky to get a 2nd and a 4th in next year’s draft. 🙂
