“Do Both,” Xavier Rhodes and Darrelle Revis
April 3rd, 2013This “Draft War Room” segment from NFL Network is pretty compelling stuff.
A case is made that the Bucs should deal for Darrelle Revis, insist on keeping their 2013 first-round pick, and then select Florida State stud corner Xavier Rhodes to play opposite Revis. (It’s somewhat humorous hearing that discussion as NFL Network cameras focus on Leonard Johnson and Myron Lewis on the Bucs’ depth chart.)
Charles Davis, of NFL Network, also plays out a scenario that has the Bucs drafting pass-rushing defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson in the first round, who recently was featured on JoeBucsFanTV, and then drafting Boise State cornerback Jamar Taylor in the second round to play with Revis.
Imagine all that and Ronde Barber returning.

It sounds good to me..
April 3rd, 2013 at 5:48 pm
Wish we would have lost the falcon game
April 3rd, 2013 at 6:01 pm
Wright barber Rhodes and Revis sounds good. You can X out Rhodes for Star I’d rather have a DT
April 3rd, 2013 at 6:05 pm
If rumors are true that Miami is trying to move up to get an OT to replace Long, then Xavier Rhodes has a good chance of being there. Regardless, it is possible for a top ten talent to fall to the Bucs.
If one team gets nervous and reaches for a QB besides Geno, it’s going to be very interesting when the Bucs are on the clock. Over at Bleacher Report where there is a mock draft every 5 minutes and because of that I tend to discount them, one mock is suggesting that Shariff Floyd is coming off some draft boards with Lotulelei getting a clean bill of health.
As I’ve said before, whomever we pick is going to be a dramatic upgrade. It’s a no lose proposition.
April 3rd, 2013 at 6:11 pm
Yea….don’t foget Wright in that mix…at about half the price. That will serve as a backup if we go DE in the first & CB in the second. It will also be a backup if we don’t get Revis.
Leonard Johnson will get better & better. I do think Ronde is coming back no matter what the scenerio.
April 3rd, 2013 at 6:18 pm
I fully support this strategy, and would still try and renegotiate a way to keep Wright and resign Barber (nickel / third safety). You will need 4 corners during a NFL season. Let LJ develop as a 5th corner.
Rhodes is raw but I think his ceiling is high – under the tutelage of Barber and Revis he would be destined for Pro Bowls I believe.
April 3rd, 2013 at 6:22 pm
I honestly would rather have trufant. He has excellent hips and could be a playmaker in this system
April 3rd, 2013 at 6:22 pm
I posted this in another thread but we still have plenty of viable options in free agency. I know it seems like there are no corners left but that is not the case. Here is who is left….

April 3rd, 2013 at 6:25 pm
I introduced you to Sheldon Richardson in January….and you laughed
April 3rd, 2013 at 6:29 pm
I want Star Lí’i rd. 1.Richardson is a three-technique & T. B. aleady has one. Or take a CB in the first , & a NT rd. 2.
April 3rd, 2013 at 6:37 pm
That would be a dream come true with Revis and Rhodes….Opposing WRs will be terrified having the head hunters of Goldson, Barron and Rhodes with Revis too all ball hawkin!!….my god it would be unbelievable. Be sweeeeet if McCoy, Clayborn and Bowers could pass rush like crazy….instant success!!
April 3rd, 2013 at 6:50 pm
I wud take star over Rhodes if he was there to me Rhodes is the best CB in the class… He hasn’t even scratched the surface I wud take Rhodes over mo Claiborne if they were in the same draft
April 3rd, 2013 at 7:06 pm
Bucs draft 3 rds
1) Lotulelei, Floyd or Richardson (DT)
2) Taylor, Amerson or Poyer (CB)
3) Woods (WR) or Green (LB)
3) Honey Badger (CB) (trade up)
April 3rd, 2013 at 7:28 pm
Given Mark Dominik’s penchant for making people wonder just what the f*** he is doing, THIS SPECIFIC SCENARIO makes perfect sense and would address their needs.
April 3rd, 2013 at 8:09 pm
They say star louteleli is better then sharif floyd now that he got cleared by doctors have cleared him so i think the raiders trade back amd draft tavon austin and whoever they trade with will draft star or floyd, and then the jets will get whatever dt the trade partener with the raiders dont get.and then we can get dion jordan thts.my dream dion jordan can play de or replace Quincy.black at olb and be the edge blitz ,pressure on the qb.and.revis.is challenged anf picks the ball off or amerson or goldson or barron or barber just a olb who can tackle, blitz, pressure,
and Is athletic can help our secondary out alot
April 3rd, 2013 at 8:45 pm
Oh heck naw Rhodes is a mess anyone but him…
April 3rd, 2013 at 8:51 pm
Honestly I’d prefer to call Green Bay and ask te availablilty of Tramon Williams. They’re about to give big money to Matthews and Rodgers and then potentially bj raji. They have a good young secondary in shields, Hayward and have a good feel for drafting. They could look to she’d some salary cap space with Williams.
April 3rd, 2013 at 9:23 pm
Andres, you make a valid point!
April 3rd, 2013 at 9:41 pm
“Do Both,” Xavier Rhodes and Darrelle Revis
Why not!!! ….damn formidable and remember, we will lose Barber 4ever next year.
April 3rd, 2013 at 9:49 pm
@ 4everbucsfan
hey man, you never know. CB Darrell Green from the redskins played till he was 42. not sayin Ronde is going to do that but hes only got another 4 years of playing football to reach that age. though its probably impossible, I think it would be kinda cool. lol
April 3rd, 2013 at 10:01 pm
Andrew 1 not only did Darrell Green play until he was 42, he was still tunning 4.4 40’s at that age! When he was drafted Darrell Green was running 4.1
Can you imagine!?
Ronde can keep on playing too…
April 3rd, 2013 at 10:05 pm
@ Sledd
just amazing.
April 3rd, 2013 at 10:10 pm
hes an old man now but I believe he could still beat my a$s in a race… and im only 24!!!!
April 3rd, 2013 at 10:51 pm
Give up this year’s #1 for Revis then draft Trufant in rd 2.
April 3rd, 2013 at 10:58 pm
Revis, Rhodes,Wright, & Barber. Thats a winning formula. Best CB in the game if healthy, extremely promising rookie CB with great size and intangibles, a guy with a chip on his shoulder as long as its about 1/2 of his original contract, and we all know who Barber is. I’m having a cold beverage and hoping for a Barber return and a Revis trade.
April 3rd, 2013 at 11:00 pm
@andres
They have been saying give up next years 1st and use all this years draft pick. Draft a DT in the 1st and trade back up to get Trufant.
April 3rd, 2013 at 11:13 pm
Darrell Green and Chuck Cecil were my favorite non-Bucs players from my era. Green’s speed and endurance were inconceivable. Chucky used to hit people so hard that he would knock himself out. Any guy that can do that for as long as he did is a hero.
April 3rd, 2013 at 11:30 pm
How bout them Rays?
Wow!!!
April 3rd, 2013 at 11:30 pm
why not milliner and revis?
April 3rd, 2013 at 11:35 pm
Because there is no way on Earth that Milliner is available at the 13th overall pick and if we are giving up so much in the 2014 draft, we need all of our current picks.
April 3rd, 2013 at 11:49 pm
@ andres @ erick
Everyone seems high on Rhodes yet both you say no and provide no reasons.rawest and most potential talent in the entire draft is Rhodes.dion sanders even is quoted as saying that Rhodes is the next great cb the league will see.so you think he’s wrong? The best cb to ever play…gotta respect that Seminole opinion. Today’s my bday…bday wish list:
1st rnd-Rhodes CB (FSU)
2nd rnd-Escobar TE (SDSU)
Somewhere later we get Ryan Swope WR (TAMU) and Tyrann Mathieu CB…if star loutelei falls then great, if we get revis, even better, but otherwise we gotta draft to our needs and I think these 4 have tons of upside.also love David Amerson CB (NCST) and Marquise Wilson WR…
April 4th, 2013 at 12:17 am
@sneedy16 if that’s the case then I’ll bet Dom trades that 13th overall. this draft is really weak and next year supposed to be much better. Getting Revis is like a first round pick anyway. I wouldn’t mind stock piling picks for 2014 and nabbing trufant along the way.
April 4th, 2013 at 7:42 am
Watch out, expect the unexpected. Dee Milliner was at One Buc last night!
April 4th, 2013 at 7:45 am
@djosh Deion also said the honey badger is the best corner in this draft
April 4th, 2013 at 9:01 am
Personally I think XR27 would be a good fit here. Especially with Revis and/or Ronde to mentor him and teach him the game @ the pro level.
April 4th, 2013 at 9:15 am
Star would be better. ..
April 4th, 2013 at 9:24 am
Trufant > Rhodes
April 4th, 2013 at 9:43 am
Can’t see this Rhodes-Revis thing happening. The Jets want our 1st rounder for Revis. We are way more desperate to get Revis.Than the Jets are to let him go.Dom will give in last minute and ship our 1st rounder for Revis.Even if we waited and drafted a couple CB.We would stiill be thin at CB.Anyway you slice it we’ll overpay for Revis. We could of signed one of the 5M one year corner’s.Just as a ploy then cut him if the Revis trade went thru.Ate the 1.5M bonus it cost to cut the free agent CB.These 5M free agent corners are low risk.No excuse for not grabing one.
April 4th, 2013 at 10:21 am
There is no way we are getting Milliner Ian Rapport tweeted that Milliner has met with 10 out of the first 13 teams in the draft… Give me Rhodes plz… Revis Island and Rhodes Island.
April 4th, 2013 at 10:39 am
@76buc76
Have you not been following or contract structure model? We don’t hand out signing bonuses all willy-nilly; we are more of a “guaranteed contract” type of deal….
…and with that being said, that could also be part of the reason why certain free agents don’t want to come here: rather take all the money up front w/o wanting to wait until the season starts.
also, don’t forget. great corners DO NOT grow on trees. There’s a reason these teams let these guys walk and another reason why they were on the market so long.

Trufant > Rhodes
True, but most people feel Trufant won’t be there @ 13 and Rhodes probably will

Please send me the link to that absurd statement
