Joel Glazer: The Buc(k) Stops Here
March 19th, 2013Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer made his annual visit with local scribes at the NFL owners meeting in Phoenix today and like Bucs fans, he is irritated that the Bucs are still looking for their first postseason win since the Super Bowl.
In short, Glazer stated the blame for lackluster seasons since, ultimately, stops at the conference room door of the Bucs’ ownership group, so Twitters Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.
@NFLSTROUD: Glazer: “I don’t know how to describe how it feels. It rips you apart on the inside. Every fan feels that way. There’s no question we have to take responsibility.”
Well, what Glazer said is both noble and true. He is the man who hires people who are supposed to build the football program.
At the end of the day, and Joe is certain Glazer would admit this, he is not steeped in the intricacies of player personnel moves nor is he a football coach on the level of those collecting NFL paychecks.
That’s why he hires people to build his team. He delegates authority, as most owners do.
Glazer is not George Halas or Al Davis, men who wore all the hats in the football organization. The Bucs have both won and lost without Glazer holding critical positions in the Bucs’ front office.

I am still waiting for them to be completely honest about the Raheem Morris Mark Dominik experiment and disaster being completely a cost-savings measure while waiting for a new CBA and reorganizing their assets and debt.
Dont give me the Gruden buyout argument. If they hired the best available head coach at the going rate that argument would hold water. When you fire Gruden, do not interview anyone and then hire the cheapest possible options with absolutley no qualified experience – you are cost cutting. The Glazers were hoping the savings would be greater if Gru took another head jot.
No body in their right mind trying to do everything to win a reasonable time, especially the Glazers who are very successful business men, would make the decision to turn the “rebuild” project over to Morris and Dominik – unless cost was THE major consideration.
In today’s NFL, it is much harder to stay bad for more than 2 or three years because of draft priority and free agency – 4 years and no playoffs is just awful.
Yes, I saw a lot of promise in Schiano and believe that he has turned the ship in the right direction, but the Morris/Dominik experiment was a disaster – and I do not believe that ownership has been honest about the motivations for it.

What we have to remember are the consecutive years that the Bucs were one of if not the lowest payroll in the league. That stops directly at the feet of the Glazers and has nothing to do with their football knowledge or their ability to hire top football minded people. The old saying you get what you pay for is what Buccaneer fans suffered from ever since they let Gruden go. I like what the Glazers have done as late but lets not forget history or it will repeat itself.

Thomas 2.2 we almost said the same thing. The Raheem/Dom experiment was all about cost. I get nauseated when I think back to Raheem. Great guy terrible head coach period and I don’t care that he wasn’t give the talent that Schiano was. That was some of the worst Bucanneer football of all time I have ever seen and you can include the 76 season LOL!!

It was a win win situation for the Bucs. Either Raheem worked out and they looked good for finding a young up and coming head coach; or he bombed and they blame the coaching staff which is what happened. All the while saving money. Now the one thing they have done right is keep the salary cap in check which has allowed them to get Jackson & Nicks. Two vital players for the near future. The Bucs still have money to spend, but are trying to be wise with who they spend it on after the Clayton-Black failure.

The Glazers let Bruce Allen go, as well as Gruden, now look at the Redskins!
Then, look at us ?
Bruce Allen has rebuilt the Redskins into a team that went deep into the playoffs.
It was a terrible mistake to fire both Gruden, our super bowl winning coach, and Allen.
March 19th, 2013 at 5:04 pm
The fans paid the biggest price for that experiment.
Now, watching the deflating free agency effort brings back memories of those days that we all thought was behind us.

Let’s see where the Redskins end up this year! I like RGIII, but his style will get him on IR permanently. Plus the fact that all teams have tape on him will force the typical sophmore slump. The Bucs are only a couple CB’s from being a playoff team.

I like the fact that he took responsibility that being said talk and tweets are cheap! CHECKBOOK!
March 19th, 2013 at 5:27 pm
Give the man credit. He is taking the blame and talking 1st POSTSEASON win. Hell, he didn’t even say Super Bowl. At least we use to get to the Post season now and again.
March 19th, 2013 at 5:57 pm
The Glazers want to win. They have always wanted to win
Just wish they could hire people that know how
March 19th, 2013 at 6:12 pm
As a season ticket holder, I really appreciate Mr Glazer’s comments and commitment. They have made mistakes, but when you fire a coach as good as Jon Gruden, you must have a strong desire to win.
I believe the Glazers are huge fans and feel the pain every bit as much as the rest of us. It’s a hard pill to swallow but I have to believe we’re on an upward climb.
And just tell the idiot Jets to stick it until they beg for a 2’nd round pick.
Go Bucs!!!

@Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa
The Redskims went DEEP into the playoffs???? They lost the wild Card round! Real deep. Bruce Allen is not building the Skins. He is there for Sallery Cap management. Shanahan is putting the roster together. Lets not praise him for anything.
March 19th, 2013 at 9:58 pm
Didn’t he redskins get penalized for cap MISmanagement ? Lol Allen is a moron…. The league put the hammer down on them cause of the goofball ..
And deep into the playoffs ?? LOLOLOLOL. ! Hilarious
March 19th, 2013 at 10:43 pm
I honestly don’t see the “plan.” Usually you can see why the pieces are falling together the way they are. You build a top front 7 after CRYING for 4 years about building through the draft and you let two of your proven “finds” walk for peanuts.
I hate Mark Dominik. I hope he falls down the stairs at One Buc Place and rips his pants up the crotch.

Joel hire a new gm. 1 player a draft will not cut it. I know GS is making the picks now and he cant do worse then the administrator.

@Vern4499 and Raphael, sometimes I type my posts in between answering customer phone calls, and other distractions in my office. What I meant to say was the Redskins would have gone deep in the playoffs, but RG III was hurt.
You could see him struggling, and even the commentators remarked he would have easily made some passes he didn’t, if he was not injured.
Regardless, the Redskins made it to the playoffs, with Bruce Allen in charge (the guy we fired), and we came in last in the division.
In fact, we have not been to the playoffs, since Gruden/Allen left!
The team has had a terrible record with Dominik in charge, and that’s a fact.
I think if we do not have a winning record this year, it will be Dominik’s last.
