Goldson Was Happy, Healthy In San Francisco

Joe’s done a load of studying on stud free agent safety Dashon Goldson, who is in Tampa now waiting for Team Glazer to break out their fancy pen to write him an eight-figure check that will make him proud.
The bottom line on Goldson is he’s a guy that’s proven for years he can hit, play the run, be instinctive, and is effective in a centerfield role. The ProFootballFocus stats crowd claims Goldson is a shoddy tackler, but Joe takes their analysis with a grain of salt. (Exactly what are the film-analysis credentials of those guys?) One would think the New Schiano Order would get creative with him and Mark Barron, who likely will be more effective playing closer to the line of scrimmage.
Various reports show the Goldson was darn happy with the Niners and he said this month that he wanted to return with a long term contract. He was the 49ers franchise player last year, tagged at $6.2 million in 2012 at the safety position.
The San Francisco Chronicle popped an interview with Goldson after the Super Bowl. Here’s an excerpt below:
Q: You’ve been here a while. Feel like there’s some good faith to work something out?
Yeah, hopefully, I’m just staying positive. I’m where I want to be. I was in this position before and I got my hopes up and it didn’t work out the way I wanted it to. And it happens. But for me to come back, I feel like they wanted me to prove myself — again. And I think I did just that. So if I was able to be in this situation again with the franchise tag, I’d be very surprised.
Q: Risk in franchise tag?
There’s no security in it. I’ve been in this league now six years, going on seven. I think I’ve done what I’ve had to do to deserve a second contract, period. The franchise tag, it’s cool. It’s not that bad with the money, but everybody wants security. In the job that I do, and the position I play, there’s a lot that comes with the territory. Security is something that you want at my position, for sure.
Q: Individually, was this your best season?
No, I think I have plenty of seasons that were good. I don’t know if this was my best season. I just think I was comfortable this year. I was healthy. I think I did some good things.

It’ll be a surprise if the Bucs don’t have a deal with Goldson in a matter of hours. Joe really can’t wait to see the attitude and swagger he brings to the Bucs’ defense. If Ronde Barber sucks it up and returns in a nickel-back role, and the Bucs score a good free agent cornerback and draft one, Tampa Bay should have secondary that doesn’t suck the life out of the team next season.

I read an article that called Goldson a system player. The article pointed out he did little, until Fangio got ahold of him.
I hope that article is wrong.
The 49ers have a great pass rush, and that makes the entire secondary look good, because it forces the QB to make hasty decisions.
Unless Tampa greatly upgrades it’s non existent pass rush, even Revis and Champ Bailey will get torched, if they play for us.

Hopefully the Bucs sign Goldson today, I can’t take much more refreshing of twitter to see more negotiation updates for the guy.
I’m thinking the Bucs will also make a play for a CB and maybe a veteran defensive end and come draft time will either draft an end; defensive or tight or trade down to recoup a pick or two; possibly to replenish draft picks after trading for Revis (fingers crossed).

You should also be able to have a respond button, if theres someones comment you have something to say about it, you can reply and it will go under there comment, kinda like how you do it sometimes.

Good sign by Bucs, hope we are able to get a good deal on a CB like Nnamdi since he is considered damaged goods. But for conjecture, just saw that B. Pollard of Ravens was released….would he have been a better fit for Bucs?? Both hard hitters, same age and talent level. Either way good to see the Bucs not playing 2nd fiddle, but looking for great talent to improve team.
