Dashon Goldson Wants To Mentor Eric Wright
March 28th, 2013Spa-day-loving, pill-popping, BS-peddling Eric Wright, the Bucs’ letdown cornerback, explained on his blog recently that he’s tight with the Bucs’ new All-Pro safety and helped recruit Dashon Goldson to Tampa.
That really happened, says Goldson.
Tomorrow at 10 a.m., 98.7 FM host Justin “The Commish” Pawlowski will air an exclusive interview with Goldson, but The Commish has released excerpts that include Goldson talking about his relationship with Wright and how he believes he can mentor Wright back to a successful path.
“I definitely feel that I can be the person that can help guide him and be a positive role model and help him get back to that player he was and I know he can be,” Goldson said.
This is all fascinating to Joe. And Joe has to wonder whether there’s a chance the Bucs wooed Goldson, in part, with the chance to play with his close friend Wright. Many Bucs fans will remember how the re-signing of Davin Joseph seemed tied to his pal and linemate Jeremy Trueblood getting a new contract.
Regardless, Joe doesn’t want to see Wright in a Bucs uniform this season. The Bucs can do better.
March 28th, 2013 at 10:07 am
Actually no, the Bucs can’t do better at this point. We’ve sat on our a$$es through Free Agency and watched upgrade after upgrade go to different teams. I think we have to keep Wright, if not to be an experienced starter, then to have depth at the position. We won’t spend all of our draft picks on corners. And clearly we’re not going to sign a FA corner. So, speaking of corners, we’re kind of painted into one at this point!
March 28th, 2013 at 10:13 am
Everyone loved wright when we signed him. Guy made a mistake, stupid a$$ mistake that he wishes he could get back but can’t. He has so much talent and was put in a tough situation with the influence of Aqib Talib. If goldson wants this challenge of mentoring wright then I’m all in. As a coach I would love to have my players do that.when players on a team have a connection to each other then it brings out the best in each of them.wright needs a second chance, we need a cb, and can get him for less $ than before.second chances….
March 28th, 2013 at 10:14 am
Thank you joe. We dont need this garbage human being. It’d be one thing if Wright was an elite talent but he’s not. Get rid of him and the headache that comes along. Sorry but Goldson’s job isn’t to babysit this punk. It’s to be a pro bowl caliber safety. Leave the personnel decision to management. Wright isn’t gonna change so dump that trash.
March 28th, 2013 at 10:15 am
So much for that “Wright is a liar” argument Lolz.
March 28th, 2013 at 10:26 am
The relationship between Goldson and Wright shouldn’t affect the Bucs decision to keep Wright, but it might. Wright was overpaid to begin with and certainly wasn’t the same caliber of the other top free agent CBs last year, Carr and Finnegan. If the Revis trade happens and the Bucs draft 1 or 2 CBs early in the draft, there is no reason to keep Wright.
March 28th, 2013 at 10:32 am
We played this game with Talib… let’s not play it with Wright. You can’t turn a hoe into a housewife. Don’t try to save’em…
March 28th, 2013 at 10:55 am
“Garbage human being”? Terraj WTF? you never made a mistake? Damn we are so quick to dump on others.
My hope for terraj is that he/she never gets caught doing anything wrong and if he/she does, does he/she have enough balls to tell us all about it.
Don’t throw stones.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:06 am
Talib?! No chance he’s a talib! Aqib had problems at Kansas before the bucs.aqib shot a gun at someone.eric wright took a pill.one pill and got caught making ONE mistake.so if Doug Martin fumbles a ball once lets cut him! This is ridiculous. Wright has talent and he’s already a Buc.when something is broken you fix it.its not always the best decision to throw it away without a solid backup plan or a better option.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:08 am
@ DjoshFreeman
Talk about rewriting history.
The Wright signing was awful the moment it happened, most people knew right away that Dom had massively overpaid for a BAD corner.
Also lets not act like it was pier pressure or a mistake, a mistake is something you do once in error andlearn from it, this was a choice based on numerous events in his past.
This is a guy who transferred from USC to get away from rape rumours and had large quantities of ecstasy in his apartment. Let’s not forget that others who played with Wright had Aderall issues to, making it look like he’s the one that puts others in a bad situation.
He’s a turd and one of the worst signings in Bucs history.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:08 am
@shutthebucup love the username well done
March 28th, 2013 at 11:08 am
All I care about is having a talented football player on the team.
I would have been fine with Talib coming back.
None of you clowns know these guys… you have no idea what their true character is.
Goldson mentors Wright. Wright stays clean. It becomes a win-win for the Bucs, Wright and even Goldson.
Stop hating on your own players… that is a SICK disposition to have about your fav team. You are SICK if you are overly concerned about a person character when all that truely matters is if the guy can play and help the team win. Great character guys who suck are never missed.
Also, IT’S NOT YOUR MONEY! Who cares if they restructure his contract. Dom can’t even manage to spend it anyway.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:09 am
I agree Kirk. People make mistakes, we are all human. Terraj you must be one perfect ass person, glad I don’t know you. As far as Wright goes, I say we keep him regardless of what we have to pay him.It buys us some time. Use our draft picks on a DE, DT and a corner or two. Wright is better than the rest of the cb’s on our roster.Oh, and forget Revis. No way I give up 1st round draft picks for damaged primadonnas.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:10 am
Haha. The PR assault is on. I bet we end up keeping Wright after some of this image rehabbing.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:18 am
@ Greig
X and adderall are different.its not like he took adderall to get high? Guy just needed a little help focusing haha plus that overpaid problem doesn’t matter now.wright knows the system already.im not at all saying he is a great player or the answer to our problems but for now this option is best.winslow and Talib were cancers to the buccaneer organization.these kids make dumb mistakes sometimes, but every player has.ray lewis killed someone and we forget.lance Armstrong and Sammy Sosa cheated but we’ll forget.wright is not a ray lewis and never will be but one mistake shouldn’t lose the support of his fans.if the fans don’t believe then why should he believe in himself?! people can change and wright will change…if he wants to better himself, fanbase should encourage it.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:24 am
At the end of the day, the dude took adderall to help prepare mentally for games. Him & about every college kid in the US were doing it to study. The NFL is stupid for even suspending someone for it. At least he cared enough to want to get his learn on.
At 7 mill, his salary is too high based on last years performance. He will need to restructure and to be fair to his original contract make it loaded with performance based triggers, so he has to perform to get paid.
If the Jets cave in and we do sign Revis. Revis, Wright, Goldston, and Barron are formidable, Ronde as a nickel. Thats a good secondary!
That would allow us to have 20 million in cap space (Revis 10-12). Plus have our draft picks to fix the line and linebackers. At our spot in the draft we should have a great pick at those positions. where as at corner we would be reaching on an Xavier Rhodes or Trufant.
So with that said draft needs change
1-Jarvis Jones-OLB-Georgia
2- Kawann Short-DT-Purdue
3- Tyrann Mathieu-CB-LSU
4-William Gholston-DE-Michigan State
4-Ryan Swope-WR-Texas A&M
5-Landry Jones-QB Oklahoma
6-Qanteres Smith-DE-Western Kentucky
6-Joe Fauria-TE-UCLA
UFA’s
Kenny Tate-S (Not LB)-Maryland
Marcus Lattimore-RB-South Carolina
Ray Ray Armstrong-S-Miami/
Russell Sheppard-WR-LSU
Jamaal Johnson-Webb-OG-Alabama A&M
Joe Vellano-DT-Maryland
Greg Reid-CB-Valdosta St.

@ShutTheBucUp Says
Well said.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:41 am
I don’t know how many time I have to point this out but here goes again.
Career INT’s by player:
Rodgers-Cromartie: 16
Derek Cox: 12
Nnamdi Asomuagh: 15 (over 10 years)
Cary Williams: 4
Sean Smith: 5
Keenan Lewis: 1
EJ Biggers: 3
Antoine Cason: 12
Eric Wright: 14
Where is the upgrade? He definately needs to take a reduced salary, but it would be unwise for the Bucs to let him walk. Personally I would have liked to see the Bucs cut Wright and sign a FA, but the FA’s weren’t really any better.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:41 am
AGREE WITH KIRK, This is the hand we are playing, got to start pulling this thing together, see what the draft holds, (Xavier Rhodes), and move forward. Still think the key to everything is if Josh can me more consistent, and if he cant, QB might be the pick next year, forget about Revis and lets start focusing to a long term solutions.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:46 am
Just FYI, we don’t know it was adderall. That came from the Wright camp and may or may not be true, but the NFL does not release which substance a player was suspended for.
March 28th, 2013 at 11:47 am
@ Seth B
Finally someone who speaks with some sense.everything u said about adderall and why wright did it was on point.if we do not get revis tho, I think Xavier rhodes would be a great pick.i like tyrann late and really like Greg Reid late he was awesome at FSU before getting kicked out and tearing that acl.if swope fell to the 4th I’d be shocked esp after he ran 4.35 in the 40.would love to have him Landry jones and Lattinore late
March 28th, 2013 at 11:50 am
Never felt we should release Wright. I would prefer to get him to a lower cost, but really, even that doesn’t matter at this point because it is not my money and the Bucs are so far under the cap it doesn’t matter.
What I don’t get is Talib made what? 6-8 “mistakes” while here, and there are still people that claim we should never have released him.
Wright makes one mistake and it’s “off with his head!”
And really, when he actually did play he had glimpses of being a good CB. Bare in mind that between the suspension and minor injury, he didn’t have a lot of time to learn the defensive playbook last year. And he certainly did not get much time putting it into practice.
March 28th, 2013 at 12:07 pm
@Seth: Please tell me why we should take an OLB who will play, at most, 50% of the snaps in the first round of the draft?
March 28th, 2013 at 12:16 pm
I never seen so much excuse making for a grownass man.
He could have learned his lesson before he even got into the NFL (USC incident). Then, maybe after he signed that massive contract with the built in protections, he would have stayed on the straight and narrow, and what happens? The DUI arrest. THEN, when we manages to avoid the DUI, and you think he would REALLY play it safe, what happens? He gets popped for the adderal.
So, he KNEW he could be risking most of the contract if he screwed up, and he still had 2 incidents. So, what makes anyone think he will act differently now?
Bunch of excuse making for middling to good player. Certainly not great or worth that contract. Certainly not reliable.
March 28th, 2013 at 12:21 pm
@ Seth B
I like what your saying, but really L.Jones? You want to waste a pick on a worse Freeman? Rumor has it we might give up a 1st&2nd in 2014 for Revis. To me that says Freeman is the guy and they must believe that also. We have needs at DT/SLB/CB/RT/TE/Slot WR. By giving up a 1st and 2nd for one player while knowing we have all these needs on defense they’re confident that Freeman will win us games as long as the defense plays better.
With the Wright situation it’s starting to look like we’re going to keep him. Really like him more than anyone else that’s left seeing as he’ll have another year in this system, but he will have to take a pay cut to stay with the team. He’s a good #2 , but if we get Revis and have Wright and Barber I’d feel alot better going into the draft.
March 28th, 2013 at 12:32 pm
We are ok with sucking.
I am convinced.
How else do we have Wright at almost 8m per year, but we let our “best” CB from last year walk away for 1.5m, EJ Biggers?
Myron Lewis is still on this roster, he needs to get gone.
Our lack of CB aquisitions will mke me a happy Fantasy owner.
Somewhere out there, Julio Jones, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, Steve Smith, Greg Olsen, Marques Colston, Lance Moore, Jimmy Graham, and a few others are marking their calendars, twice a year, to just shred us to pieces…
March 28th, 2013 at 12:57 pm
You can’t teach talent and Wright can’t cover. Cut him please.
March 28th, 2013 at 1:17 pm
Greg Olsen is with the Seahawks
March 28th, 2013 at 1:42 pm
The Bucs can do better? Then why haven’t they?
I say keep Wright at a reduced salary that’s heavy with incentives.
Dom obviously doesn’t think much of the FA corner market.
And unless the Bucs draft CB in Rounds 1 and 2, I doubt any CB drafted after the 2nd round would be better than Wright as a rookie.
March 28th, 2013 at 2:18 pm
Wright is the best CB option besided Revis definately a good move if the Bucs resign him.
March 28th, 2013 at 2:20 pm
Cause we know we are all perfect and have NEVER EVER made any mistakes…
Lol hypocrites on every level trying to tell someone else whether they “pass” as human brings. Wow hahaha
March 28th, 2013 at 2:21 pm
Beings*
March 28th, 2013 at 2:47 pm
The question is was Wright the best option other than Revis at the start of FA? Hellz no.
March 28th, 2013 at 5:35 pm
NO! Please cut Wright! We can’t waste a spot on our 53 for someone who will likely be suspended again or benched because he gets put on the NFL network for another horrible highlight like against the Aints. If Goldson wants a CB from Washington we honestly should look at Trufant. I hope we draft Trufant and the Matthieu. We need a DE to and possibly another LB because I hate Hayward but with Trufant, Ronde, Johnson, Gaitor and Honey Badger we could have a better CB stable with a good mix of guys who know the system and those who don’t.
March 28th, 2013 at 8:12 pm
when wright was on the field an not hurt ,he wasthe best db on the team.
March 28th, 2013 at 8:27 pm
If we don’t want Eric Wright why would we want Tyrann Matheiu
March 28th, 2013 at 8:47 pm
Does this mean we have to worry about Dashon getting pills from Wright now?
March 28th, 2013 at 9:16 pm
P.S. those of you saying not to keep him because he’s “likely to get suspended again” sound foolish.
When you look at his NFL career as a whole what are you basing that off? The one spec on his résumé? Lol right..
March 28th, 2013 at 10:27 pm
Wow, Buc fans are really down on Wright, and I get some of it but man, I guess I’m in the minority, I think he’s a decent corner, he’s got plenty of upside. I mean the guy is no doubt learning a hard lesson, and he also could miss out on $7.75 million next season if the Buccaneers opt to dump the contract. Sign him to an incentive laced contract and everybody wins, but if the guy reaches his potential, all of a sudden, we have one damn good secondary.
