“Josh Freeman Is Our Quarterback”

Moments ago the leader of the New Schiano Order gave a huge vote of confidence to Josh Freeman and threw cold water on the notion that the Bucs are eager to bring in competition to challenge for his job.
“Josh Freeman is our quarterback,” Schiano said from the NFL Scouting Combine podium.
Joe will have more later on Schiano’s subtle yet clear backtracking on the “competition” front, something Schiano himself put out there right after the close of the 2012 season.
As Joe’s written before, the whole notion of “competition” for Freeman makes no sense from a regime — and rockstar general manager Mark Dominik dating back to the 2010 offseason — that made sure the was no competition for Freeman. Current backup Dan Orlovsky didn’t even take snaps with the first team in practice.

Nothing had changed, it’s still now or never for Freeman.
Did he say that he’s no longer bringing in competition? Honest Q.

Schiano just said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that: Freeman needs to improve on his decision making…mostly, when to check down or throw it away. He tries too hard. Needs to know when to move onto the next play……but said “I also love how competetive he is”

Schiano just told ProFootball Weekly…at the end of the season, i said something i shouldn’t have. After reviewing the tape, Freeman is our QB

From what I’ve heard he’s a pretty competitive drinker too. Wont see that from Rodgers, Manning, Brady etc.

I hear ya Joe.
I guess it all comes down to Freeman.
Either he validates that statement this year or we are back to the drawing boards.

If Dan Orlovsky is not good enough to be some competition to josh Freeman, then we need a better back-up QB. (!)

He still has things too work on. But the one thing that concerns me is his poise and confidence. It seems when we’re down 2 scores he forces too many bad balls to make a play. He makes a mistake early it sticks with him and he’s rattled. You pressure him early he gets rattled. Staring down Wrs.
It’s concerning and if he was the the answer at QB we would have locked him up right now. But he’s not so that tells you theirs too many questions.

From where have you heard this? His work ethic is up their so I will never criticize josh Freeman’s efforts to get bettter.
On the controrary: It’s concerning, from my point of view, that for how much work he puts in, I wonder if he’s just not processing it on the field at game speed.

Lets let Freeman play out his rookie contract, if he does well we can sign him or franchise him. IMO if he has a great year next year we will resign him, if he falters and has a good to less than good season we let him go. NFL= Not For Long for players and coaches. I understand the stated position that he is only 24 and he could go someplace else and win. He has been up and down his first 4 seasons, with new coaches every season. Last season we lost both starting G’s Pro Bowl G’s that makes it very hard to judge him IMO. I have my fingers crossed and I hope Freeman the best. But at the end of the day I want the Buccaneers to win! With or without Freeman as our QB..

Screw coddling Freeman and telling everyone that he is our qb. The fact that Coach had to even say it shows there is substantial doubt he is our franchise’s future. Say he is the starter publicly so his fragile feelings don’t get hurt but please have a capable backup to step in if Freeman continues to be dreadfully inconsistent. We need a 60% plus qb who doesn’t turn the ball over. I don’t care who it is. I like Freeman about 55% of the time. Unfortunately, that won’t get the Bucs many playoff wins or realistic shots at winning another Superbowl. Go Bucs!

@Rob in Orlando You have this situation pegged. When Freeman gets bad news, he go to pot. (no not accusing him of that although he does have a reputation of putting a few brews away) Look at the picture above the previous article. Does that look like he’s lost?
