Benn’d Around To Oakland; Shula To Carolina
January 19th, 2013A couple of former subpar Bucs offensive coordinators found jobs yesterday leading NFL offenses.
Joe is almost speechless.
Run-up-the-gut-for-three-yards Mike Shula has been tasked with destroying enhancing Cam Newton’s development, replacing departed offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. This is great news for Bucs fans!
Also, the sadist behind the dreadful and infamous Benn’d Around play, Greg Olson, will take Chucky’s old playbook to Oakland. Joe wonders how far Olson threw Raheem Morris under the bus during the interview process when asked what happened during the 2011 season in Tampa.
Joe commends the salesmanship of Shula and Olson.

how much did morris bus drive Gruden? These gm and owners know what kind of clowmn Morris was. Only one that considered Morris was the SENILE owner of the Broncos
January 19th, 2013 at 11:37 am
Hey now, this is just great, especially the part about Shula going to run the offense for division foe Carolina. Think of it – now ol’ Steve Smith as well as young Cam and the rest of their entire offense will get to benefit from the same expertise that molded Trent Dilfer (along with the one who everyone knows how Joe loves to crow about being [in Joe’s own words] “one of only three QBs to lead the Bucs to the NFC Championship game”), yes, and the rest of that Buccaneer offense into the powerhouse juggernaut it developed into under Coach Shula’s tutelage.
January 19th, 2013 at 11:41 am
Morris was SET-UP….to FAIL. Bottom Line!
January 19th, 2013 at 11:41 am
Uhhh, Morris had already found a permanent home under the bus all on his own. Did you get a look at ‘Skins defensive backfield performance last year?
January 19th, 2013 at 11:48 am
Ruggyup COPY THAT!!!!
January 19th, 2013 at 11:51 am
Good luck with that Oakland.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:11 pm
ummmm, wrong jlynch.
anyways….wow, just wow on those hires.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:20 pm
I just remembered something funny that John Madden said about the Mike Shula led Bucs’ offense. It was during the 1999 Conference Championship game in St. Louis against the Rams. While watching the Bucs’ boring ineptitude in not being able to move the ball, much less score points (and remember, the Rams defense was BAD – they only won because of the high scoring ability of their “Greatest Show on Turf”), Madden made the observation, “You know, when you think about the Bucs’ offense, you just think – NINE POINTS… you know? You don’t think about them going down the field and scoring touchdowns. You think maybe a few times a game they get close enough to kick a few field goals, maybe. You know? NINE POINTS, that’s just what you think when you think about the Bucs.” And he laughed one of those big, hearty laughs.
It’s funny because the laugh people got from listening to Madden ridicule the Shula led Bucs’ offense was more entertainment than they were getting by watching our putrid offensive effort on the field. Also, funny because he over-estimated

We play Carolina twice …do we play Oakland next season?
January 19th, 2013 at 12:31 pm
Also, funny because he over-estimated our output for that day when all was said and done. Even though our defense did an amazing job shutting down “The Greatest Show On Turf” for only eleven points, our offense could only muster three points the entire game. Even though we scored six points for the game, one of those field goals came from an interception at the Ram 20 yard line where we couldn’t even get a first down after, so that was a field goal that was given to us with the offense doing nothing to get into scoring position. The entire rest of the game our offense got into field goal range only ONE time. So this game it was more accurate to say, “When you think of the Shula led Bucs’ offense, you should think THREE points.”

What I remember, is that “WOULD YOU LIKE SOME FRIES WITH THAT BIG MAC?” look Shula would have on his face whenever the cameras panned to the BUCS coaches booth.
The only possible move for the Panthers worse than this, is if they hired DAVID Shula for O.C.!

You’re kidding, right? You don’t remember we just played Oakland this season? We’ll see the Raiders again in four years.

@williethewonder
copy that!
….that comment was longer than Joe’s article 🙂

Maybe we have now found a taker for Benn. We all know that the Benn’d around will be in the Oakland gameplane at least once a game next year.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:06 pm
Who knows? Even though my background is in Electronic Engineering, I’ve been laid off thanks to President Obama’s cutbacks in defense spending – if Joe sees I have some writing chops maybe he’ll offer me a job. ;>)

Hey, yeah. Everybody knows what a sucker Olsen is for a guy who’s a sure thing to pick up a quarter of a yard every time he runs that patented play of his.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:19 pm
from the picture
“Dominick says we have to get his second round pick some plays. I know he can’t run routes or catch. And Freeman can’t throw an accurate ball. I guess we have to run the end a round.”
Funny how Olsen seemed to lose the play when he went to Jacksonville. I guess some people will make up any story to protect the Rockstar.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:32 pm
You know, you may be right about that. On the other hand, regarding J-ville, how can you run a “Benn Around” without a Benn
January 19th, 2013 at 2:13 pm
ha! ha!
January 19th, 2013 at 2:14 pm
Olson didn’t call plays in Jacksonville, Mr. Smarty Pants Realist.
January 19th, 2013 at 2:49 pm
Two of the worst coordinators to ever work for the Bucs getting jobs as OC. That just goes to show that some teams value experience over potential. Those types of teams rarely if ever become anything more than mediocre. If you want to get past the restraints of parity in this league you have to do something unique. Those two guys are the opposite of unique. I feel bad for Raiders and Panthers fans. Okay…not really.
January 19th, 2013 at 3:01 pm
I blame the Mike Shula experiment on Tony Dungy. His hands were tied with the head coaches demands of ball control. I remember John Lynch intercepting a ball and spiking it on the Bucs sideline in front of the offense ! As if saying ” do something with this please !!”.
January 19th, 2013 at 5:38 pm
@williethewonder re: “NINE POINTS”
I remember that comment as well!!! I *never* forgot it. I’d bring it up when people would go into the “Gruden won with Dungy’s team” nonsense. The only thing that I remember differently is that Maddon’s comment was made during a Monday Night Football loss at Minnesota during the 2000 season. By then, he was really fed up watching the Bucs “offense.”

The only problem is those dam pesky facts that defense spending has increased under Obama. It has nearly doubled since 2001. We spend more on defense than the rest of the world combined. The potential budget sequester, that Obama said he will make sure will never happen, was a bi-partisan agreement in congress not the executive branch.
January 19th, 2013 at 7:59 pm
why call it defense spending when all we do is attack….for oil, et al?
lol
January 19th, 2013 at 8:24 pm
Hey Joe, please do a story on the East-West game. My other Carolina boy, (opposite of Clowney) Devin Taylor was showing out.

@Sacbucs, He does have remarkable taste in the ladies. That Juliete Cabrera is one really beautiful woman. So is the other long haired brunette thats always in that one ad….stuff of fantasies those two, lol.
January 20th, 2013 at 7:15 am
Yeah Joe. How come there is no diversity in the Morning Cup of Joe? Morning cup of Been’d around afflicting you too?
January 20th, 2013 at 7:24 am
@Alonzo…come on man. When it comes to beautiful women, diversity shouldnt even be an issue. I love ALL beautiful women, regardless of race.
This is his site, he posts what he wants. And if that hotazz on fire Juliete doesnt satisfy your palette for ‘diversity’ then you need to just get over it. He’s posted all races from what I recall. My GF is Asian and he posted an Asian a while back, but I dont call him out if he doesnt post more Asians, lol.

Hey SacBucs, why no subjective input on stanglassman coments? You choose your moments to respond & censure posters comments with care. I’ve not seen lurker post in sometime. At least several days. Why no same love for the other coments that are cut from the same cloth? Or worse. Id say if your going to be Joes hall monitor(not that he needs any help) show some equality…
Good Olsen is west coast now, not sure about Shula to Carolina, there he has several good RB a good Oline a good WR there he even has a QB with potential. He never had those things in Tampa. He might not be the 3 yard run up the middle OC anymore. Besides wasn’t he the coach of Alabama too? Maybe he might have learned a few Things since

@joe congratulations on : JoeBucsFan.com is part of the USA Today Sports Media Group. This might be old news but I just noticed it. Wanted to say congratulations on it.

Alonza,
Slow morning and off topic. You seem like a nice enough young man and wouldn’t mind a little advice. Take it from an old dude who has been there and done “them”.
If you walk into a house full of beautiful women, start at the front door and work your way to the back door. If you stop and ask for a flashlight so you can pick a color, you are wasting valuable time!
January 20th, 2013 at 10:48 am
Speaking of Oakland, I wonder what they will do with that trainwreck, Rolando McClain. He was so good at Bama and Saban loved him. I’d like to see the Bucs give him a shot in Schiano’s defense. If they can get him focused, he might be worth a 7’th rounder instead of Oakland just cutting him. If he can show up in camp, you have someone to fill the void of Black with Foster possibly moving over and McClain at the Mike. If he doesn’t work, oh well, not like we haven’t thrown late round picks away before.
January 20th, 2013 at 12:14 pm
HAhahaha, well said Macabee, well said.
January 20th, 2013 at 2:48 pm
@BMA
Kiper has us taking Alec Ogletree 13th to fill our LB need, house that sound to you?
January 20th, 2013 at 5:08 pm
First Round it needs to be best available. Dom may trade back or forward, who knows, but I think Kiper is off the mark as usual. It’s a D line draft so they say and we need a DT and or a DE. Not as bad as a CB but I think that comes later, along with a TE.
January 21st, 2013 at 12:15 am
DT Star or Hankins 1st… CB 2nd…trade back into 2nd for DE Devin Taylor…trade back into 2nd for best TE or slot WR/PR….then FS DJ Swearinger, then another CB, OT, and RB (unless we’re going to use Blount and Smith more)
January 21st, 2013 at 4:52 pm
lmao @ nutsacbucs
rage much? i hope you didn’t go to any gun shows this weekend.
all you do is rag and complain. you bitch at people for being POSITIVE about the bucs… i call it counter-measures.
