Still An Important Game

December 29th, 2012

Michael Bennett does not believe the Dixie Chicks game is meaningless. Of course, he’s about to score big in free agency.

It’s the last game for the Bucs tomorrow. There will be no January games. No postseason. Freefalling the past month took care of that.

But don’t dare tell any of the Bucs, much less Greg Schiano, the game Sunday against the Dixie Chicks is not important.

Take Michael Bennett for example. He’s looking to continue his solid season. A free agent in a matter of days, Bennett is looking to cash in big time and a solid game Sunday will only add to his suitors.

“It is important because it is the next game and an opportunity to show the coaching staff what kind of players we have for next year,” Bennett told Joe. “It is definitely a building block game so everybody should play hard no matter what.”

Bennett dismissed any notion that he is looking ahead to hitting the NFL lottery in the coming months.

“I mean, it is just the next game for me,” Bennett said. “I’m trying to do the best I can to try to win. [A new] contract comes when it comes. I’m not worried about that.”

Bucs activate CB Eric Wright from the reserve list and waive CB LeQuan Lewis. Hmmmm, if Wright plays why not Talib?

  2. Have A Nice Day Says:

Bennett has more sacks this season than any other Bucs player since 2005.

It has been 7 years since we’ve had a player hit double digit sacks in a season. Make it happen tomorrow. Bennett.

  3. Have A Nice Day Says:

1976 – Talib had been causing trouble for 5 years. This is Wright’s first offense.

  4. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

If they lose and the cards fall correctly, they can attain the 6th overall pick. If they win, it’s possible they could fall to the 16th pick.

This game is not meaningless. I just hope Gosh doesn’t get hurt and damage his trade value.

  5. Ed Says:

This team reminds me of 1990 Dallas Cow
Boys. Lets hope next year is more like 1991-1995 Cowboys.

  6. 1976Buc Says:

@Have A Nice Day according to Schiano everyone started with a clean slate so past issues should not matter.

  7. Have A Nice Day Says:

1976 – That maybe the case for Schiano, but it certainly is not the case for Dominik and Glazer’s who have been witnesses to his antics for five years.

  8. Eric Says:

    Riveting.

    Who needs the playoffs?

  9. BK Says:

PLAY WITH SOME PRIDE IF NOTHING ELSE!!!

As a long time BUCS fan, I must admit these last few weeks have been very hard to watch.

In RE: Wright, it doesn’t make financial sense to keep Wright when they can release him and not pay him a dime. He didn’t have any real impact on D. The NFL is business first…team and talent second.

  10. RustyRhino Says:

I love Bennetts atittude towards this game. Not only for himself also for his teammates and coaches. I hope Bennett stays with us. To me he is a great Buccaneer Man. Was.brought in as a FA worked to better himself and has been successful.. I hope he gets to 11 tomorrow!

@eric the last season we went to the playoffs was 07 with a 9-7 record and that was first place in the South. We lost that game to the NYG. I know we do need to get back.

  11. St Augustine Says:

    double edge sword tomorrow

  12. St Augustine Says:

We need Wright (won with him / lost without him), HOWEVER I would not pay him his Brinks contract. He hurt his team, was selfish, and disappointed his fans. It was just flat out wrong for what he did. Hopefully in these type of situations they can meet half way maybe with some incentives. If he truly is remorse then he should prove it. We sacraficed a lot for him and he should return the favor to repair what he did ~ Make it a win win. It’s that simple.

  13. PRBucFan Says:

If Jekyll/Hyde gets us a win tomorrow it wouldnt surprise me…
He set on ruining us lol

  14. Macabee Says:

I’m not afraid to be called a sheep. I’ve seen enough to know that this team has the underpinnings of a good team. If i’m the coach i’m saying all the right things, but knowing I could win a meaningless game and miss the opportunity to get a Manti Te’o, a Dee Milliner, a Luke Joeckel or even trading down to get additional picks, I’m playing my 1st team as long as Atlanta is playing their 1st team. When they take their 1st team off as in a preseason game, I’m taking my 1st team off too! Discretion is the better part of valor!

  15. Adam Says:

Tank the game. The draft is more important than this piece of garbage. Besides, let the Falcons get filled with loads of self-confidence so they can flame out in the first round (as usual).

  16. Eric Says:

    The only intriguing question:

    Can Josh outplay Luke?

  17. PRBucFan Says:

    Matt Ryan 69% completion 4481yrds 31 TDs 14 Int
Free Free takes notes tomorrow maybe you actually learn something.

  18. CanadianBucsFan Says:

Honestly, I hope tomorrow that.. 1. We dont break the record for the most passing yards allowed EVER, I will not be excited for Florio’s article on that storyline. 2. I hope its a VERY close game that goes back and fourth, but Miguel does have a strong point, would we rather have the 6th overall pick or 16th? we can get a very talented player at the 6th position, and even make some trades with our 38th overall ect.. we win and were still out of the playoffs, this is the last game of the season, it will not be giving us any momentum or confidence for the first game of the 2013 season, I hope we lose a very close game ( hoping I dont get people bashing me on saying that )

  19. PRBucFan Says:

Your just man enough to say what everyone is thinking Canadian lol

  20. Deroa Says:

@Miguel, The draft is determined by SOS, so the highest the Bucs can go by my shady calculations would be the 8th overall pick.

  21. Patrick Says:

Matt Ryan – has made the playoffs 4 out of his 5 seasons in the league.

Josh Freeman – has made the playoffs ZERO out of his 4 seasons as the quarterback.

  22. lurker Says:

    hey miguel payasito,

at least josh has some value and worth. you are worthless detritus.

  23. Architek Says:

If we are #6 we better draft Geno Smith. Damn conventional, use this year as a test acceptance for Freeman and see what comes of it (let the best man win) but you immediately create trade value.

So one could support signing Gosh to a performance based deal now and adding trade value by drafting Geno 6th. Oh there will be an L today with this secondary and QB combination.

  24. Architek Says:

    @patrick,
You are so correct. Ryan has at least competed and grown in 5 seasons. This guy Gosh is a walking head scratcher and coach killer in the making.

  25. Macabee Says:

    Architek,

Did you see the West Va/Syracuse game yesterday? Did you hear the TV analysts assessment of his skills in the NFL? Might want to rethink your choice of a new Buc QB.

  26. mcBuc Says:

Ryan has also played in the same system with a better team around him. If you talk to people in ATL they bitch that he cannot win the big game, and they point to his number of playoff wins. His has the same number of playoff wins as freeman. If freeman had the benefit of consistency in the organization as Ryan you may see a further developed qb. We know how each of you guys feel that have to trash free in every post. Maybe it is time to I’ve the kid a chance with a consistent coaching staff, and that does effect all aspects of play so no need to point out accuracy etc.

  27. SacBucs Says:

This is strictly for one poster Pewter pirate 99 was that a threat.

  29. Bangkok Buc Says:

First time all year I’m picking the Bucs not to win in my pool. (I’m obviously not winning )

Let’s Get into the top 10 and continue this rebuild. Still a ways to go but I’m confident we’re on the right track.

  33. SacBucs Says:

Joe I was lightweight upset with Vjax about getting run down from behind by Macolm Jenkins. Until, I seen a replay of the NFC championship. Most of us buc fans seen it too, we just forgot….Jenkins caught Vernon Davis from behind. The dude got hot wheels. Vernon ran a 4.3 at the combine. Malcolm is just fast General.

Okay, Vincent had a huge lead I admit that but he was nursing the calf injury.

Vjax showed great speed & quickness on the wr screen last week. Where has that explosion been Vince.

    Thanks Big Guy

  34. Architek Says:

    McBuc,
It’s not just trashing but you have to understand he was the chosen one. Anointed by the greats to be the next great buc that wasn’t a defensive player. When you hear Sapp, Lynch, and Brooks gush over him you build hope that he is the truth. But in 5 years and 4 years starting he has not shown anything consistent in his game. He use to be praised for care taking of the ball, that failed. Scrambling and making plays with his legs failed. Missing wide open WRs and the God awful short/intermediate accuracy.

I believed in him even after last season but watching this unfold all over again with better coaching is just horrendous. Sure we over react on Sunday while the pain is happening but then we come right back to the same mantra, give the kid a chance. Well I look at it like this, what do you care more about, the kid or the franchise? Because that stadium will never sellout with him here and – and we will not sniff the playoffs in this NFL without a solid QB.

    You choose.

  35. Architek Says:

Remember the brand is always bigger than the player in the NFL. See Favre, Montana, McNabb, and more.

  36. Have A Nice Day Says:

@SacBuc – That post was for Joe and the other commenters, not you. Mind your own business, you disrespectful little girl. Leave me alone for the second time. It’s people like you that are bad for this site. You attack without reason, or coherence, and make personal threats backed by gangsters and murderers.
Who died and made you right? No one.

  37. Architek Says:

    @macabee,
Well how do you fix this mess at QB?
