God Returns To Drive McCoy’s Production

December 12th, 2012

It’s been just over two years since Gerald McCoy explained that the big D-line coach in the sky directly guided him to two sacks against the Baltimore Ravens.

And now, after his most recent two-sack game against the Eagles on Sunday, McCoy again explained that God drove his stellar performance. A fan to McCoy’s radio show tonight asked him what inspired arguably his career best Sunday.

“We were in chapel the night before. We were challenged by our chaplain. He asked us the question, and he said, ‘Who do you play for? What do you play for?'” McCoy said. “And he told us, he said, ‘The bible says in everything you do, do it wholeheartedly, as if you’re doing it unto the Lord.”

McCoy continued: “So he challenged us, regardless of the outcome of the games from here on out. What would our record be in the wins and losses column when it comes to competin’ for the Lord? And he said, ‘Tomorrow, I’m issuing a challenge to see who could come out with a W,’ and that was just my motivation.”

Jimminy Christmas, McCoy should just hire a sideline preacher to keep him focused in between series. Joe’s not even kidding. Joe often got all fired up for football and life as a kid on Sunday morning’s watching televangelist Jimmy Swaggart get after it on the airwaves, before various hooker scandals took him down.

Joe’s got plenty of respect for men of faith like McCoy. If McCoy can benefit from in-game sermons, it’s worth making it happen.

Hallelujah! Preach it Reverend Joe. lol.

  3. Smitty Says:

“…Everything you do, do as if you are doing it unto the Lord…”

Sorry, but I am NOT sacking the Baby Jesus…I have enough to repent for.

  4. ramdog Says:

McCoy is a beast I think a healthy D-line and some good corners and we could start seeing games like the legendary Bucs of Old had. With our offense too we should be a force to be reckoned with.

  5. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

    Whatever motivates the feeble-minded….i guess…smh…lol

  6. buccanay Says:

McCoy needs to do what he was drafted number 3 OVERALL to do. This type of game should be more of the norm, than a twice year event. So is God failing him every time he disappears for a stretch of games. Do your freakin job McCoy!!!

  7. Jessup Says:

McCoy just loves imaginary super powered beings. You should have seen him the the Avengers moving. Whatever gets him motivated I guess.

  8. Jessup Says:

    movie*

  9. Bobby Says:

@buccanay….He said God motivates him, he didn’t say God is playing for him.
@Ians Gay Lisp….If you think everything ‘just happened’ by some cosmic accident and all this complex life that man with all his computers and intelligence can’t create… even in it’s most basic form…then I guess we know who’s ‘feeble minded’.

  10. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

@Bobby….its impossible to argue with a religion that also invented Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny

  11. BigEl Says:

Hope he takes the cb’s wth him next Sunday

  12. Bobby Says:

Man invented Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny. You’re not stupid…why pretend to be? Answer my question…why can’t man recreate life life with all the intelligence and resources we have today? I’m not asking for all the millions of variations with plants, animals, insects, microbes, etc. I just want the basic form that this vast array of life we see around us supposedly came from. Give me that one cell it’s supposed to have all started from. It’s not like they haven’t been trying…and trying…and trying….and trying….for years…and years…and years…

The Bible says: The fool says in his heart “There is no God”. I think that sums it up.

  13. buccanay Says:

Take your religious talk to an appropriate site…this in NOT one!!!

  14. BucDan Says:

I second buccanay! One’s life is not impacted by the beliefs of others. Where you gonna blast McCoy if he said he prayed to Allah and read the Koran for motivation? You believe what you believe and others believe what they believe. Like trying to convince a Pepsi drinker that Coke is the way to go…

McCoy and the rest of the dline played sensational until the final two drives. I cannot remember the last 6 sack game the P&R put on tape. Like plenty of others have mentioned, the Bucs lack depth at EVERY position (including oline where we have been lucky to have stellar multi position players). The next two off seasons will need to be spent on accumulating that depth and working to make raw players into playmakers ala Giants/Cowboys/Pats and plenty of other teams.

  15. OAR Says:

Wait a minute, I thought Mattel invented Santa and Hersey invented the easter Bunny?

  16. OAR Says:

    Bobby
I saw sasquatch reading a bible once….Does that count?

  17. Reality Check Says:

@ Bobby – what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

  18. SilenceTheCritics Says:

    @Buccanay

Who are you to tell anyone what to talk about and what not to talk about? This is joe’s site and this article was about McCoys faith so I believe we have every right to talk about it. Heres an idea…. if you dont want to hear it… then dont read it. Fool.

  19. BucDan Says:

    @SilenceTheCritics

Are you actually serious? You are right and the article was about MCCOY’s faith. Where does Bobby come in to call others idiots for not believing the same way he does? Buccanay was just trying to stay away from one of the most famous taboos because it always brings about the nasty in people. Exhibit A can be found in the comments above.

You would think that on a Buc fan site the topic of choice would be the Bucs and not the attacking of others over religious beliefs….

  20. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @BucDan,

No, Bobby came in because others dismiss God. That’s their right to do that, but Bobby (and anyone else) has a right to come back and state his belief. So when someone insinuates that those who believe in God are feeble minded, what do you expect those that do believe to do? Why don’t you read the comments in the order they were written, and then let me know what group started this.

  21. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Your silence says it all.

  22. BucDan Says:

Sorry about the ‘Silence’. Had my priorites all mixed up and I was working and then ate dinner… I did overlook that Ian’s called believers in God ‘feeble minded’ and see where you mean who started what. ‘Youre dumb for believing something different than me’ is still a terrible and unnecessary arguement. Religion has nothing to do with the product on the field. There are Christians, Muslims, Jehovah’s witness, scientologists, non believers etc on the filed at any given time. Better football isn’t played due to what you believe in. Favre, LT, OJ and countless others are examples of that. Players using their beliefs as motivation is fine with me and I would guess Joe, based on the article. One team plays better than the other and a winner and loser are produced. The reason they are in the NFL and why they have played football the majority of their lives is due to physical talent and the hard work they put in. I don’t care what anybody on this site believes in as long as its the Bucs.

A religous arguement doesn’t have a winning side, so let’s get back to Bucs football.

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Work and dinner should never come before Joe Bucs Fan! You have a right to believe what you believe, I just so happen to disagree. Everyone has the right to their opinion, but you are pointing the finger at the wrong one on this one.

  24. BucDan Says:

Hey I try to sneak in some peeks when the boss ain’t lookin’, hence the earlier posts! I hearby rescind all finger pointing that was done on my behalf.

    Leh Go Bucs!

  25. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Good man.

  26. SewerRat1082 Says:

    Well said Hawaiian.

Personally, if he plays every game like last Sunday he can draw inspiration from wherever he wants to for all I care. If God & the Bible help him then I say God Bless.

  27. PRBucFan Says:

    Amen Hawaiian, Thank you Bobby
As for me being “feeble minded” because I have faith in the Christ who is my Saviour. Well, we shall see dear sir. I for one wouldnt want to be on your end if im right. Btw, find for me where in Scripture you see the mention of Santa or the Easter bunny??? Did you seriously just say that???
-McCoy has been given an enormous platform and is using it as any man of faith should use the platform they’ve been given. To glorify God. I for one am moved by men that prove not to be “feeble-minded and that aren’t swallowed up by all that can come with such a huge platform. Stand strong McCoy. I’m grateful for the Derrick Brooks’s, Tebow’s, Dung’s, and yes McCoy’s of the world that aren’t afraid to stand up for what they believe in.
-btw Joe, it’s not God that “returned”, its man that moves.

  28. PRBucFan Says:

    Dungy’s* lol that was funny

  29. BucDan Says:

I wish more non-Christians came forward with their beliefs like you mentioned PR. That is why I previously mentioned the ‘what-if’ of McCoy and praying to Allah. What if he said that the great Xenu came to him and helped him play great and he wanted to use his professional platform to promote Scientology? I have a feeling the responses here would be a bit different. Would he then be considered feeble-minded to you, as a Christian? Serious question, trying to have an honest discussion.

  30. PRBucFan Says:

I was using that phrase in regards to it being used to refer to believers of Christ. I would not consider them feeble minded by any means, just wrong. I would pray for them but who am I to judge? I believe any man should stand up for what they believe in. However, not for the sake of being right but because its what they whole heartedly believe. I have close friends who pray to Alah and that advocate their beliefs. I think think their wrong and I witness to them when I get an opportunity but it doesn’t mean I have room to judge them or that I don’t dont have respect for them when they are bold being in their faith or witnissing to me however wrong i think they may be. For me being “feeble-minded” is to go along with what your told without establishing it for yourself or that when times get rough or when the world says otherwise you suddenly have a change in perspective. There are plenty of “feeble-minded” Christins who have gone the majority of their lives just off the word of their parents or whomever without truly establishing a relationship with Christ of their own or that at the first sign of resistance lose the same “faith” they had earlier that morning at church. That to me is a major concern because it ruins the witness of Christ as a body we have on this world. Now my concern for my muslim friends or any nonbeliever is never because I wanna be right about God, it’s all because of what I believe will be the consequences for them in them being wrong. Their salvation, that, I care about. I don’t have respect for someone who just goes around spouting what they believe just for the sake of being right (including Christians) but I do have respect for the man that shares their faith because of conviction and first and foremost because they believe it to be truly beneficial to their fellow man.

RESPECT! Here, Here! Lots of great stuff in that comment.

PR, thanks for your response. What I enjoyed about it was that you could replace Christian with another religion and the message was still the same. It is the response that I would hope any person has regarding others’ beliefs.

  32. PRBucFan Says:

    :), thanks for the discussion
