“We’re Not Playing The Giants Offense”

The Bucs ain’t runnin’ no copycat offense, says Mark Dominik. Joe will hereby call it the Gulf Coast offense.
Rockstar general manager Mark Dominik is back on tour and landed on the popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, beer-chugging Peter King podcast this week on SI.com.
Using passionate tones, Dominik put his foot down on the bandwith to let it be known that the Bucs and Mike Sullivan are not running the Giants offense. No, the Bucs run their own new brand of high-flyin’ and punch-you-in-the-mouth football. It’s what Joe likes to call the “Gulf Coast Offense.”
King said he’s surprised how explosive the Bucs have become “sort of overnight” and asked Dominik why and how that’s happened.
“I would say it’s been a buy-in mentality of our players, really tying into Coach Sullivan and what he wanted to bring and his view, along with Coach [Ron] Turner, quarterback coach for us. Their view of what they wanted this offense to be in terms of our offense. We’re not playing the Giants offense right now. We are a Tampa Bay offense. It’s different than what the Giants do, but there are some things that are mimicked in it, but it’s not the same. And I think the buy-in from the players, and that starts with the quarterback and his work that he put in this offseason, and the buy-in of our players of our coaching staff.”
This chatter intrigued Joe on several levels. First, it was the passion Dominik used to say this Bucs offense is its own brand. Second was Dominik’s crediting Ron Turner and Sullivan and not mentioning other coaches in that take.
Dominik did go on to talk about how adamant Greg Schiano was in the interview process about how he wanted to be a coach that took a lot of shots downfield even though he had a ball-control philosophy. Dominik said it was clear Schiano had studied a lot of offense despite being a defensive-minded coach.

GCO all day any day. Loving how the Bucs have really stepped up and have come up with their own identity instead of trying to copy what someone else is having success with. We see that far too often in the NFL.

“The Gulf Coast offense” works for me too. Love the name. But if all three units are great (Offense, Defense & ST) what would we call it all?
“The Gulf Coast Offense” & “The Gulf Coast Defense” sounds pretty good…cause this ain’t the old Tampa 2 we’ve been seeing.

the Tampa 2 is done and gone. It was great while it lasted but QBs have adapted and been able to tear that defense apart by hitting the middle with slot recievers and tight ends.
GULF COAST OFFENSE!!! LOVE IT!! Living on the panhandle Gulf Coast myself, it’s great to see our area get some love!!
It sucks up here because we are in “saints” market place and no matter how bad or good they are we have to watch them week in week out. Only get to catch bucs games when they play the saints or national game of the week. but thank you internet feeds and NFL Redzone as I have seen a lot of Bucs football up here on redzone with our new GULF COAST OFFENSE!!

The cover 2 is used quite a bit still in the NFL by most teams just not all of the time. The Bears use it quite a bit and they are really strong. You need a strong front 4 that consistently get after the QB though.

Tampa-2 done and gone? Funny, we were using the Tampa-2 quite a bit last Sunday in our win against the Chargers.

@tony.,, Tampa 2 will never be gone. Ask the Bears who use it as a top ranked defense. Personally I hope we get more back to it than away from it. Generated a top 10 defense for 10 years or more.,
