Where’s The Bucs-Chiefs Postgame Marketing?

October 16th, 2012

Joe’s not calling a conspiracy here by any stretch off the imagination. But Joe is puzzled why the Bucs and the NFL are not going all out to promote the free game replay of the Bucs-Chiefs game available for the past 36 hours on NFL.com — in glorious HD to those with IP addresses in the Tampa and Orlando markets where the game was not televised.

Joe understands and supports the blackout rule, but if Joe were adopted into Team Glazer, Joe surely would pound the URL of this game video to the Buccaneers’ 600,000 or so followers on Facebook and Twitter, and provide a big ol’ link on the team website. Hell, Joe would even ask the players to fire it out on Twitter.

Last season, NFL.com ran banner ads after blacked out Bucs games promoting a direct link to watch those games free. This season? The banner ads are gone and the link to the blacked out Bucs game is buried deep — real deep. (It’s also only available free for another big handful of hours.)

Joe would encourage everyone to share the link above, including Joe’s media brethren. Exposing a blowout win like this is a public service and can only translate into good things.

Probably because were going on our third season and on pace of only selling out two games yes TWO. They probably figure no one is interested with good reason with that unflattering record.

    @Joe

This link is only available for Tampa residence? I hit the link and it says that I’m in a restricted territory and had to pay to watch.

    Joe here,

@Sneedy16 – Yes. NFL.com tracks where your IP connection is from. It’s got to be from an area that had the game blacked out from live television.

  4. ScottB Says:

It was difficult enough to watch on the computer on Sunday… I can’t imagine wanting to see it a second time. And who would pay to watch this crap?

  5. Kennedy Says:

Scott, it’s free and in HD with no commercials. I’ve watched it twice already over the last two days. What kind of fan are you?

  6. James A Spradling Says:

Joe when i click on the link it says (restricted) accsess ?

  7. SilenceTheCritics Says:

The NFL along with most sports networks don’t care about Tampa Lol. We are lucky to even get a mention when we win. All they care about are the big sports market teams because that is where all the attention and money is focused.

  8. Cannon Says:

    Sigh…

Its blocked because I live in Grand Cayman :o(

  9. James A Spradling Says:

OK I got it i live in Pensacola, and scottB The BUCCANEERS dont waqnt fans like you we win a game and all you can do is complain go find another board to vent your swill

  10. Keith Says:

    Damn our defense hits hard.

Looks great in HD, minus the thin crowd. 🙁

  11. McBuc Says:

Yeah Scott, a 38 – 10 win is not good enough for you?

  12. Buc Fan #237 Says:

As a Buccaneer fan, NFL Rewind is worth every penny… if you buy before the season starts.

This year, the iPad app for the NFL Rewind is amazing.

Can’t complain at all… well yes I can. why do they block the NFL Rewind games from Sunday during Monday Night Football? That is BS.

  13. Buc Fan #237 Says:

“Joe understands and supports the blackout rule…”

Really? You support the blackout rule?

  14. Ernie W Says:

For $69 a year you can get every NFL game on demand when you purchase NFL Game Rewind. You can watch the condensed version 30 minutes or the broadcast version minus the commercials 2:30 minutes. It’s by far the best way to get the Bucs or any NFL teams games on demand.

  15. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Ernie, before the season starts, you can get it for half that price.

… and why would Joe Google that? It has nothing to do with this post. –Joe

  17. william1882 Says:

    @joe

I too found that odd that i could not find the link to the game when last year it was all over the place on nfl.com. i would like to hear from you as to why you think that is, even if it is way off because i dont have the slightest clue.

  19. Andrew Says:

do you think it is money related?

  20. Joe Says:

    Andrew:

Joe doesn’t have the foggiest idea why that is, so he won’t even try to guess at speculation.
