Schiano Welcomed Ray Rice Comparison
October 30th, 2012One might think a guarded coach like Greg Schiano would shy away from comparing a rookie running back to a complete, two-time Pro Bowl RB like Ray Rice.
But just the opposite was true yesterday during The Greg Schiano Show on WDAE-AM 620. Schiano was very specific about how Doug Martin is like Rice, who was Schiano’s workhorse at Rutgers. “The patience, the vision, the balance,” was the direct comparison delivered by Schiano.
The leader of the New Schiano Order also explained that Martin has the unspoken greatness understood by students of the game.
“He’s got IT,” Schiano said of what makes Martin special. “As a football coach you know what that is, and Doug has it.”
This is very high praise for a kid who’s only played seven games. But Martin has made Bucs fans forget their Trent Richardson fantasies, which is an accomplishment in itself.
Joe remembers when Raheem Morris likened Mason Foster to Ray Lewis. That was comical at the time, but the way Foster is playing that might not be so farfetched.

Society is so instant gratification that there is no longer a grace period…. “Foster is a bust” and stuff like that after 1 season is just stupid! Im glad to see him step it up and play well.
The first 3 picks in this draft class are masking the back end picks who have done nothing outside of Michael Smith (who has done very little as well but numbers game at RB)

the comparison starts with his build, a lot like Rice, his vision will improve in time but right now i think hes a lot like Rice was coming out of college. i thought Richardson would be nice but WAY too much to give up (picks and a top 5 salary) for a guy who split carries in college and had 2 knee surgeries in a year. Richardson is good but Dougie Fresh comes in injury free and is looking pretty damn good. Dougie Fresh has more rushing yds than T-Rich. glad we have him and hope he has an amazingly good long career!!!! BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!!!

I am not sold on this moniker “Dougie Fresh.” I prefer “Snoop Doug”

Aside from this man’s incredible ceiling is the fact that he’s a damn fine human being to boot, he really is a nice kid with a great demeanor and is always smiling, we are blessed to have him on our team!! Love ya Dougie!!!!

All it takes is one week in the NFL. From hero to zero. Ask LGB.
