“Drink A Mountain Dew!”
October 29th, 2012Think the drug suspension of Aqib Talib and the likely looming four-gamer for Eric Wright doesn’t upset Bucs players? Former Bucs tight end and current network radio analyst Anthony Becht says it does.
In fact, Becht could barely contain his disgust on WDAE-AM 620 this morning.
Becht, who played for the Chiefs in 2011, said the thought of a guy popping a banned Adderrall makes him shake his head.
“You put that in your mouth you know there’s a huge consequence with that,” Becht said, referring to all players knowing the list of banned substances. “Are you trying to stay up for a meeting? Drink a Mountain Dew or a cup of coffee. You might as well stick a needle in your butt and take steroids because you’re getting the same consequences.”
Becht went on to call out E. J. Biggers and Leonard Johnson to put the offenders where they belong. “Go win those jobs [Biggers and Johnson] … and maybe you keep them.”
Outside the emotion of it all, Becht said he believes Biggers and Johnson have flashed enough this season for fans to be hopeful they can be starters.
Joe appreciates Becht bringing his what-if-I-were-a-still-a-Buccaneer take to the suspension of Talib and, likely, Wright. It lets Joe know how pissed off many other Bucs must be.
After all, Greg Schiano repeatedly talks about how hard his “Buccaneer Men” work. And no hard-working man is pleased to have his teammate let him down intentionally.

Ha Ha!! I wish Biggers and Johnson could win those jobs, but lets not kid ourselves. I don’t care if we keep them next yeasr or not, but we need the CB position real bad.

I’m hoping Wright appeals long enough so he can play in the Raiders game until we get Talib back. Selfish I know.
Is 4 games a first offense? What’s the escalation..4, 8, season?
October 29th, 2012 at 8:33 am
Doesn’t piss me off at all. Doesn’t change anything. Wright has always been a bad signing. A grossly overpaid, very average player and a d-bag of a human being. Does anyone really think we’ll be any worse in the secondary without him? I mean he bites so hard on pump fakes, he is already a huge liability when he’s out there. I really can’t imagine Biggers, McDonald, and Johnson being any worse.

Dam…wish we had gotten Cortland Finnegan instead…
October 29th, 2012 at 8:36 am
I’m PO-ed, but not enough to want to see Biggers as the starter! I can’t get that upset!
October 29th, 2012 at 8:45 am
@Jessup – Why is Wright a lousy human being??
October 29th, 2012 at 9:00 am
I doubt this can happen, but I wonder if the glazers can find a way out of this contract because of the violation. This signing was a disaster from the beginning. Everyone in the nfl seemed to know he is over rated except the bucs.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:02 am
I do not want Biggers anywhere near starting WRs, he is just not that good and Leonard Johnson we havent seen enough to know anything. This is just ridiculous but nothing official has come out yet, he may have a legit reason for using.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:05 am
Or go to bed at a decent hour so you can be awake at work without chemicals. You know, like a professional.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:27 am
It never ceases to amaze me that these clowns can’t stay clean for just 6 or 7 years. If you just stay clean, play half way decent, you can make enough money to never work a day in your life if you don’t want to and you can do all the drugs you want then. These guys have no idea what the real world that most of us live in is all about.
That being said, I don’t think Wright has been all that much better than Biggers this year. Wright is a huge disappointment and maybe now we know why.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:39 am
I thought that you had to be caught more than once to have a 4 game suspension? do they only do random drug tests on repeat offenders? or is it for all players? i thought that all players know when they would be tested, unless you were a repeat offender?
October 29th, 2012 at 9:39 am
Correct me if im wrong, but what’s even more disheartening is that we ‘still’ have to pay him millions in guaranteed money! You would think “taking a banned drug” would void the guaranteed deal.
October 29th, 2012 at 10:00 am
I think it’s safe to say we’re taking a CB with our first pick of the 2013 draft.
I thought 4 games was a second offense, could be wrong. Clarification needed.
October 29th, 2012 at 10:15 am
To avoid being without Wright and Talib on Sunday, can’t Wright appeal the suspension to buy himself a week?
October 29th, 2012 at 10:17 am
I hope Dominick was cleaver enough to include an illegal substance clause in the contract. If not; he’s probably blown millions of dollars of the Glaziers money. Have to give him huge props though for Vincent Jackson & Carl Nicks. Two out of three these days are a steal!

BD, et al
There are two drug policies in the NFL – the substance abuse policy and the performance enhancing drug policy. If it had been weed it would have fallen under the substance abuse policy and the length of a players suspension will depend on the number of abuses or possibly no suspension for a 1st time offense.
Adderall falls under the PED policy and there is an automatic 4 game suspension for a 1st offense or any offense. This policy is rigid and meant to keep PEDs out of the game.

Why is Eric Wright a bad human being?!? Take it easy Jessup LMAO
October 29th, 2012 at 11:25 am
biggers is better than talib. wright has played well though, we will miss him. he’s a much better man coverage CB…harder to do and will be harder to replace. talib should ride the pine the way the other are playing
October 29th, 2012 at 11:26 am
Wow I really dont know what is worst the chargers getting busted on using a stickem substance or us having both of our staring cbs suspended for peds? You can see why the chargers recievers need the stickem getting abused by the browns 7 to 6 but talib and wright didnt need peds talibs problem was getting into trouble for stupid things and wright already signed his big contract why !!! every one saying we are going to have to go heavy on corners but we have so many other holes dont see us doing that in the draft.we need FS DT TE RT just as bad as corners I still dont know why we didnt draft another corner instead of drafting Drake Dunsmore didnt make any sense.
October 29th, 2012 at 11:28 am
Ya we should have drafted the corner. The safety horrible safety play is just as much the reason we suk against the pass as the corner’s.I believe in Barron but right now he suck’s against the pass as does David. The scheme will have to change now to help the secondary out.
October 29th, 2012 at 11:30 am
Can Barron play corner?
October 29th, 2012 at 11:38 am
We’ll be ok. Talib will be back after the Raider game. I wonder if the NFL did us a solid and staggered the suspensions?
October 29th, 2012 at 11:43 am
BD says, “To avoid being without Wright and Talib on Sunday, can’t Wright appeal the suspension to buy himself a week?”
Wright has bought himself and more importantly the Bucs seven weeks. Talib bought himself 4 weeks before accepting the suspension. The timing of the suspensions has been orchestrated by the Buc front office to lessen the impact.
The fact that there are no punishments being handed out by the Bucs coupled with silence from the players and strategic timing of the suspensions means to me that there is a lot of back door deals being made.
The Bucs probably thought they wanted Wright back in time for the Broncos but after watching them dismantle the Saints last night they’ll probably wait until after the Raider’s game which is winnable.
There are more Adderall suspensions coming. Maybe, one more next week and multiple suspensions in week 11 in my opinion.
Wouldn’t this be easier if the Bucs simply told the truth and were more transparent with their public relations?
October 29th, 2012 at 11:44 am
Also, to everybody saying that we needed to draft corners, we were OK numbers-wise before the season:
Talib, Wright, Biggers, LJ, BMac, MyLew, Gaitor & Ronde wasn’t a terrible gameplan on paper…but yeah we need to spend a few premium picks on corners next year.
October 29th, 2012 at 11:46 am
Time for johnson to become our future cb he is the only one that is going to win that job. Biggers is garbage only reason why he wasnt cut in the preseaon was cause he was hurt and still is. the minnesota game wasnt a fluke this kid is going to be star for us he is not going to take this for granted unlike other players who have gotten numerous chances and have done nothing. hopfully they move ronde to corner and put black as our FS he should get a chance to play as well.
October 29th, 2012 at 11:46 am
@ sensi
when talib comes back, thats when we WON’T be ok!! We lose games when he’s in the line up. He gets abused more than rihanna at a chris brown concert.

Are caffeine pills banned? I took two when my wife went into labor with our first kid…3 days later she was still in labor and I was wide awake.

I have been a HUGE naysayer of E. J. Biggers. HUGE.
That said…the things I had against him are correctable and Schiano might be just the guy to fix him. Do I think Biggers is #1 quality? Not even close. But he could develop enough to be a #2.
I’m willing to see him given a shot…and will even accept that it will take 3-4 games for him to get in the groove and work out the kinks. At worse…he would be quality depth later…assuming he doesn’t get an attitude.
UNLESS I see him quitting on plays again.
You know…a lot of players don’t make teams coming out of college. There has to be some potential that slips through the cracks. I wouldn’t mind seeing some CBs signed to the practice squad and tried out…since that seems to be Dominick’s testing roster.
