More Evidence Myron Lewis Is On Thin Ice
September 17th, 2012Those paying attention Sunday saw that rookie Leonard Johnson was the cornerback who jumped in the game when Eric Wright hurt his back in the second half.
Myron Lewis stayed on the bench.
With E.J. Biggers and Anthony Gaitor getting healthy and Brandon McDonald in a major role as nickel cornerback, Joe’s not sure how long Lewis, a 201o third-round pick sticks on the roster.
Rockstar general manager Mark Dominik’s overall draft record has been looking much better since the start of the 2012 season, but Joe’s not seeing a Lewis revival — or survival — anytime soon.

I think Schiano is a genius, talk about taking the pressure off of your defense and engaging your fans in a nationwide debate…I think the fan base may have taken on the New Schiano Order tough guy buccaneer men role as well. Can’t wait to see the turn out at the next game. That is after we wax Romo and the cowgirls!!
September 17th, 2012 at 6:58 pm
Lets wipe that Cam-like smile of Romo’s face…
As for Lewis…its an ego-trip to keep a player just because you have invested a high draft pick on him….its time to let Lewis go…he has had plenty of time to prove himself. Time for him to join Sabby.
September 17th, 2012 at 7:05 pm
time to join Kellen Winslow and Brian Price in the unemployment office
September 17th, 2012 at 7:05 pm
A genius might have made some defensive adjustments.
September 17th, 2012 at 7:07 pm
I liked what I saw from johnson but I’m not ready to give up on lewis just yet…
September 17th, 2012 at 7:10 pm
im not high on lewis either but at 6″2 im willing to bet eli would of never of thrown that td to martellus bennet if he would of been covering him on that play im not saying start the guy but mcdonald is a small 5″10 u got to be retarded not to throw it up one on one to him.. i love schiano and maybe im still a lil pissd from the loss but as a coach u need to be able to adjust ur personal to the team ur up against especially if the guys active just sitting there taking up a spot for wat seems to be no reason wat so ever!
September 17th, 2012 at 7:34 pm
My wife says the Bucs need to lose the White Pants. I tend to agree with her.
What’s sad to me is that a few of the big plays the Bucs had covered pretty close but didn’t make a play on the ball. McDonald especially could have stopped the one TD if he would have just kept his eye on the ball and knocked it down. He turned to find the WR and lost site of it, boom burn. Aqib was close on a couple too but just blew it. Sometimes you just need to go ahead and take a pass interference penalty and save the mass yardage after the catch. I don’t think our CB’s are the brightest players out there. I think they more of those 4 or 5 Wonderlic guys. Just saying because Talib sounds like an idiot every time he speaks.
Again I ask how you go to college for 4 years and come out as a total “Box of Rocks”?
Obama Rules!!! lol
September 17th, 2012 at 7:34 pm
Lewis will be gone when Gaitor and Biggers are ready to go. If they were healthy there’s no way he would have made the 53 man roster.
September 17th, 2012 at 7:36 pm
I never thought I’d say this but after seeing talib get roasted all day…I’m desperate for e.j. biggers to get back healthy and back on the field. I honestly think nso can get the best play out of biggers. Biggers may not play the ball too good but he straps number one wrs better than talib. That’s just my honest opinion.
September 17th, 2012 at 7:44 pm
Throw him to the sharks.
September 17th, 2012 at 7:56 pm
Coach said from the start we will not be as ready this year as we will next year. I am sure some players will be gone. 1. Is anyone out there that can help us now at that position?
2. We are 1-1 . So are a lot of other teams. Most of us did not expect to do better than 8-8. there is a lot of learning for the players and coaches to do. This game is history. Learn, move on and bring on The Jones Gang.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:01 pm
Biggers better than Aqib!? Wow your opinion sucks its one game everybody relax Aqib can cover how about not blitzing the safetys every freaking play!
September 17th, 2012 at 8:22 pm
I don’t want to anoint Biggers either but Talib gets burned a lot. I hoped this season would make him better but so far no cigar.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:31 pm
Rockstar has had a good 2012 draft clad so far and I don’t think it’s any coincidence schiano is the new coach and now we have an outstanding draft. I think if it was the dominik Raheem regime still we would have first three rounds of corners or something ridiculous. Man if Thomas was still allowed he would have a field day calling dominik a Rockstar after one good draft that the players have played two meaningful games, but Barron is a stud and may be the next lynch.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:39 pm
Re watched the game on NFL rewind, condensed version.
And it wasn’t as bad as it seemed yesterday.
In fact, the Bucs didn’t blitz every down as some would lead you to believe… And our defense held the Giants to FGs stopping drives until late in the 4th qtr.
Here were the big screw ups.
1) Freeman’s devastating int in the 3rd qtr that killed the drive (Freeman actually played outside of that)
2) Barber’s burn while Shiano called the time out, Eric Wright blitz… Amounted to like a 70 yd freakin TD.
3) A few quick slants on Talib
4) Still not a lot of blitzing… Go back and watch it again… I’m telling you.
5) But, on a few of the blitzes, the DBs got weak and were totally ineffective… They would have been better off bull rushing the HB and pushing the HB into Eli.
6) The refs called 2 huge, huge holding calls on the same drive… One that negated Barbers awesome INT… Killed us
7) Talib gets beat near the end really bad… That hurt
8) Perhaps 2 blitzes too many at the end… The DBs were just getting blocked out so easily… We need LBs blitzing.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:43 pm
Oh, and Mike Willams not getting a first down on that 3rd down… And of course the catch that the refs overturned.
Seriously, rewatching the game was a good second look at a pretty good game against an amazing Eli. Our defense held them to FGs until the very end.
It sure would have been nice for the offense to convert on a couple more third downs to give the defense a longer breather.
Rewatch it… Kind of exciting. We had a bunch of big plays too.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:43 pm
Tcaviar, It was Talib. He couldn’t get a jam to save his life. Nicks just run past him full speed uncontested and the safety could never get in position in time.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:50 pm
Yeah Talib played bad but the repeated blitzing when you knew he was getting worked was inexcusable. And to the poster who said E.J. Biggers is better than Talib, you have to be joking right?
September 17th, 2012 at 9:00 pm
Rewatch the game… We had so many chances to win.
The refs destroyed us on 1 drive… 2 holding calls that weren’t being called all day. One negated Barbers INT. Killer call by the refs.
I am actually glad they lost, not because I want them to be 1-1 but it is very important that they learn from their mistakes. Talib needs to come back more focused… There wasn’t that much blitzing… What hurt, is when we did blitz, the DBs didn’t go in strong… At least 2 times the DBs were very easily blocked out.
Eli was eating up the 3 and 4 man rush anyway… We had to put some pressure on him.
We played a damn good game all the way up to like 7 or 8 mins in the 4th qtr. I was surprised, because I thought it was much worse. We even stopped Eli on the first 3 drives, 1 punt and 2 FGs. To me the FGs were little victories all things considered.
The 2 TDs amounted to 15 points all right at the end to tie it up…
It all happened so fast though… Crazy how they had extractly the right amount of big plays… No way could it have happened twice.
Romo isn’t that perfect. We got him. And I can’t wait till next week.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:10 pm
I think it had a lot to do with the scheme. We kept blitzing to get pressure on eli. In a lot of those blitzes, we put our corners in man coverage. It’s tough to cover a big receiver like Nicks in man. Schiano should have recognized that we were not getting enough pressure with the blitz and dropped all DBs into coverage. Tampa 2 would have put a stop to those deep sideline routes.
Aqib is really a number 2 corner. I think Eric Wright going down really hurt and altered what we could do with shifting the covereges. we had to roll Barron over to help Macdonald on Cruz leaving Talib without help over the top.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:43 pm
I hate Atlanta and they are getting bs love from the scabs
September 17th, 2012 at 10:10 pm
We didn’t keep blitzing.
btw, PFT had an article that had this statement:
“During 11 years at Rutgers, Schiano’s defense twice forced a fumble in victory formation.”
September 17th, 2012 at 10:11 pm
I never thought I would say this…but I want the old refs back.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:12 pm
The old refs are now classic football.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:15 pm
The NFL needs to open an investigation on these scabs. They clearly are Atlanta fans. Can you say they make wagers? It has to be organized crime.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:21 pm
I didn’t see it, but I heard the Ravens game was bad too.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:22 pm
Well I can say this: if schiano keeps doing it he will come up with it. just a matter of time.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:23 pm
It was and so was the st Louis one.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:23 pm
We didn’t keep blitzing??? I saw numerous blitzes up.until the end of the game. Rarely dis we rush only 4. Were we watching the same game?
September 17th, 2012 at 10:34 pm
JJ is signing with the UFL…so much for me putting my kids through college with his signed rookie card I pulled from a pack of cards
September 17th, 2012 at 10:39 pm
Poor Schiano. He has been asked to make chicken salad out of chicken s-it. He will need at least 2 more years of drafting and FA’s just to get some players and depth. Get rid of Lewis and try to get something in return. Same for Q Black, Jeremy Trueflag, Talib and Parker.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:41 pm
@ nj I was really pulling for him with Frisco. do wish him the best. and sorry about the kids going to college for free.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:48 pm
Eric…I truly cannot believe you are complaining about coaching adjustments after manhandling the Panthers and nearly knocking off the Giants in their house. Last I checked we haven’t been down 45-0 at halftime. Getting Schiano is enough of a coaching adjustment for me.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:19 pm
Atlanta got three picks in the first half against Manning, sound familiar. Except ATL made some halftime adjustments and now they’re pouring it on.
Next week the Bucs will start strong and get schooled in the 2nd half because the Little General thinks halftime is for peeing, eating, an icy cold drink and a Marlboro. Then you sit on that lead.
If Jerry Jones walked into one of his businesses and saw someone outside smoking instead of working, it would be their last day on the job. That would include Jason Garrett, Rob Ryan or Bill Callahan.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:38 pm
Schiano used to be a linebacker… He ain’t little.
Which makes your nickname a never will be. Go back to your little thesaurus and find a more descriptive disparagement Michelle.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:40 pm
mikeck… I rewatched the game. Maybe you should too.
Want me to post how many blitzes we had vs not? Get the facts straight people.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:14 am
@ miguel
You are a wet fart who knows absolutely nothing about football! Why do you even waste your time on this page when all you do is bash the team with ur pathetic attempt for attention….grow up little man!
September 18th, 2012 at 12:14 am
@bobby,
It’s an upgrade coaching wise, but it’s only been two games. And in one the opponent got 600 yards of offense.
Perkins won his first game here in convincing fashion also. And last year we were 4-2. Let’s get a full dose of a Schiano season before we get too excited.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:22 am
“That is after we wax Romo and the cowgirls!!”
LMAO. Romo has had career days against us every time we play Dallas. Don’t get your hopes up bud. We never beat the Cowboys and it pisses me off cause i’m surrounded by a’hole Cowboys fans here in TX.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:26 am
How is his record looking better?
First Draft
1) Freeman – eh
2) Winslow – gone
3) Miller – Good backup
4) Moore – Gone
5) Fulton – Gone
7) Biggers – dime corner
8) Stroughter – special teams
Second
1) McCoy – one injury from bust
2) Price – gone
2) Benn – doesnt play
3) Lewis – dreadful
4) Williams – great pick
6) Bowden – gone
7) Grimm – doesnt play
7) Watson – solid
7) Lorig – dreadful
Draft 3
1) Clayborne – good
2) Bowers – injured
3) Foster – good
4) Stocker – dreadful
5) Black – we’ll see
6) Bradford – gone
7) Gaitor – stays on roster, doesnt play
7) Some tight end – exactly
So many bad picks there, very few impact players.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:26 am
glad others see miguel as the attention-seeking, troll-acting, liar he is. he makes up so much stuff it is pathetic.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:35 am
wow, with all the bucs’ fans in texas, maybe you all should start a support group? 😉
September 18th, 2012 at 1:40 am
Did anyone watch the MNF game? We really need the refs back ASAP. There are some really bad calls. Gruden called them out. I saw two myself where the ref moved the ball BACK one yard instead of placing it on the proper marker.
THe refs gave an additional 6yd’s when they should not have.
This is really getting annoying and its starting to show how upset the coaches are getting on the sidelines.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:01 am
What about Talib! He got torched all night!
September 18th, 2012 at 3:10 am
“What about Talib! He got torched all night!”
——–
That’s already been established and confirmed.
September 18th, 2012 at 3:23 am
The MNF game is the worst officiated game I have ever seen. I don’t think they were trying to be bad, but they were awful. They were Aqib Talib covering Hakeem Nicks bad (okay, maybe not quite that bad). They had no control over that game whatsoever. 8 minutes delay over a fumble!!!! They had one player take a swing at them, and another player physically pull the ref off the pile, yet no ejections?! And the worst part is, the NFL is going to release a statement tomorrow saying the refs performed well. You just watch. They are not going to cave. The real refs might as well just take whatever the NFL gives them, because the NFL doesn’t give a crap about them. The ratings and profit isn’t hurt one bit as a result, and that’s all they really care about. What a disgrace!
It isn’t the scab ref’s fault by the way. They are doing the best they can. They aren’t qualified to do the job they are being asked to do. It would be like hiring a night club bouncer to be a police officer,
September 18th, 2012 at 3:26 am
Little Michelle is a prime example of the worst type of “fan”: No football knowledge, loves to complain, unable to see beyond her own ego, fabricates scenarios that are categorically absurd, and yet considers her fellow fans as the ones who don’t “get it”. Quite obviously, she is making a concerted effort to garner attention for herself, and as a result we’re all forced to endure her pathetically inflammitory drivel, here on what is arguably the best Buccaneers site out there.
2.2 inches did all of us a huge favor by believing his own hype, and being stupid enough to believe that he had autonomy here on JBF. We all know that Joe can do absolutely anything and everything he wants, any time he wants. Joe’s site, Joe’s rules.–And that is how it should be. Now we can only wait for the day that Joe decides to remove what is decidedly the worst part of JBF. Namely, Little Michelle. She has shown to be unworthy of The New Schiano Order. And, more importantly, unworthy of JBF.
September 18th, 2012 at 3:56 am
^^^^ What he said x 2.
September 18th, 2012 at 6:20 am
drop biggers like a hot pot terrible
September 18th, 2012 at 7:21 am
Mcdonald needs to go. He sucks.
September 18th, 2012 at 9:08 am
Next week the Bucs will start strong and get schooled in the 2nd half because the Little General thinks halftime is for peeing, eating, an icy cold drink and a Marlboro. Then you sit on that lead.
—————————————————————————————–
Do you have any evidence of this happening? Just like people falling apart from the 6x-110 you always bring up?
September 18th, 2012 at 9:15 am
What exactly is looking better? The first 4 rounds of the 2010 draft draft were a complete waste. 51 pass attempts, NO SACKS despite numerous blitzes.
If anything, I’m thinking Dominik looks WORSE. Claiborne has disappeared. Freeman is throwing bonehead passes into the middle of the field (a la 2011). Legarette Blount has been invisible. And passing on a CB in the draft is starting to look like a supremely stupid move.
The only bright spot looks to be Doug Martin.
September 18th, 2012 at 11:47 am
EJ Biggers plays ALL OUT every second!
Never doubt that!
Lewis is just a pretty boy!
September 18th, 2012 at 2:44 pm
Lets take a better look at the drafts
First Draft
1) Freeman – eh (arguably the best qb picked in that draft)
2) Winslow – gone (played 3 very good years)
3) Miller – Good backup (good backup for a 3rd not shabby)
4) Moore – Gone (agree but its a 4)
5) Fulton – Gone (agree but its a 5)
7) Biggers – dime corner (a #2, #3 cb. He is a good depth cb in the 7th)
8) Stroughter – special teams (He is a SOLID receiver and sp. teamer in the 7th)
Second
1) McCoy – one injury from bust (Solid on the field, nobody could’ve guessed injuries)
2) Price – gone (terrible luck with injuries worthy of mulligan)
2) Benn – doesnt play (very good receiver when healthy)
3) Lewis – dreadful (ya bad pick.. why not playing safety)
4) Williams – great pick (agree)
6) Bowden – gone (silly pick)
7) Grimm – doesnt play (was a good pick for a 7th)
7) Watson – solid (agree)
7) Lorig – dreadful (a good fb in the 7th.. not dreadful)
Draft 3
1) Clayborne – good (Hope so)
2) Bowers – injured (boom or bust pick for injury.. so far bust)
3) Foster – good (should be solid)
4) Stocker – dreadful (Where is he)
5) Black – we’ll see (Seems to be a baller)
6) Bradford – gone (who? 🙂 )
7) Gaitor – stays on roster, doesnt play (Seems to be working up into the mix)
7) Some tight end – exactly (Didn’t make it into regular season)
……….
Taking a more realistic look into Dom’s draft picks would lead you into believing that he has had a several solid picks, some silly picks and a few bad luck picks. I’d say he’s batting a little above 500 which is pretty good for a GM.
He’s not GM Genie but there are definitely worse GM’s out there. I’d even put him in the upper ring of GMs. Every year the pundits give praise to the moves that Dom does in the offseason.
.. He’s not Mike Tennenbaum trading into the top 10 to grab Mark Sanchez and then trading for Tim Tebow
September 18th, 2012 at 2:57 pm
@ Adam L
There isn’t a rookie corner that is doing well this season so I really do not understand what you are talking about. Hakeem Nicks torched Clairborn for Dallas. The only reason they didn’t have more yardage was because they adjusted and gave him safety help over the top so he wouldn’t get beat deep plus the drop balls helped.
Talib had no help what so ever and without the pass rush he was in coverage extra. Dallas adjusted the bucs didn’t.
September 18th, 2012 at 3:20 pm
Plz i jus hope our defense can get pressure on Romo i to live in Tx and these haters dontlet up
September 18th, 2012 at 3:34 pm
I’m sick of hearing “injuries” as an out-clause for being a bust pick. “Oh he’s good, he’s just injured.” Bull crap. By that rationale Curtis Enis and Ki-Jana Carter are Hall of Famers.
Dominik picked players that are weak. Is that is fault? Eh… he’s not a doctor, but his track record for finding the walking wounded is ASTOUNDING.
The best move Dominik has made as GM was NOT signing Antonio Bryant to an extension. Literally his BEST decision as GM was a move he DIDN’T make.
I lose a bit of confidence in Freeman every week. I liked him when he was running. He was like a faster Duante Culpepper in 2010. Someone got in his head to try and be Peyton Manning and that’s not him. I don’t know why on 3rd and 1 it’s not 6’6″ Freeman behind Carl Nicks for 2 yards. I asked the same questions last year when Joseph was the G. We’re down to ONE Dominik pick that has actually lived up to expectation: Claiborne. Everyone else was drafted for one reason and is moonlighting as something else, or is hurt, or is gone.
