Jeremy Trueblood Benched

September 18th, 2012

Per a mysterious blog apparently located on Buccaneers.com, the Bucs’ official Twitter feed pumped out the following information late this afternoon.

@TBBuccaneers: Breaking news from the new “Captain’s Blog” on http://Buccaneers.com : Demar Dotson has been promoted to the starting lineup at right tackle.

This means, of course, former starting right tackle Jeremy Trueblood has been benched, at least temporarily.

It’s an interesting move on a few levels.

First, considering Trueblood won the job coming out of training camp, one could assume Dotson looked a lot better in Game 2 at right tackle than Trueblood looked in Game 1.

Or, the Bucs’ have determined that Trueblood’s injured ankle will plague him for weeks and a healthy Dotson is better than a hobbled Trueblood, and it’s better to get Trueblood healthy in case he’s needed.

Then there’s the business of Trueblood’s take-it-or-leave-it paycut to $4 million right before the season. Trueblood’s going to be paid a king’s ransom for a backup gig. Not bad work if you can get it. And now Dotson has a chance to score a big payday, as he becomes a free agent after this season.

Not to surprised… the other RT played well.

What I want to know about is Blount? What is going on there? Is he slated to play this week?

  2. SilenceTheCritics Says:

I had a feeling this might of been the beginning of the end for Trueblood…

  3. Joe Says:

    237:

Unless Blount is placed on the inactive roster prior to the game, Blount is expected to dress for the game. Joe cannot predict nor will Greg Schiano detail how many if any carries he gets prior.

  4. Oahubuc Says:

I was really hoping Dotson would show enough to keep Truedud on the bench. Love it.

  5. Westcoastbucsfan Says:

I like this move, even if Trueblood was marginally better at this point I think we should role with Dotson, he has way more upside than Trueblood.

I hope he takes full advantage of this opportunity. I think our offense is still gelling right now. I think we come back week six (after the bye) firing on all cylinders.

Anybody else think its interesting we are rated, I think, 3rd vs the run and 32nd vs the pass? I still think its an improvement.

    Go Bucs!!

  6. BigMacAttack Says:

I am surprised they haven’t tried Trueblood at RG in lieu of Larson. He usually gets beat around the end and may play better inside. He is a big strong man.

  7. Justin Says:

Trueblood is too big to play guard effectively

  8. Robbie_G Says:

It’s like like Trueblood was an all pro, IF they give Dot reps, he might be the answer going forward.

I like how you are banging the drum on our run game. Keep it up, not sure if you are ever in press conferences, but maybe shoot it as a question to Sullivan. I want to see it, everyone else wants to see it. They promised Nicks when he came here, we have 3 Good backs that can carry it…..Let’s do it!

The Blonde Haired Tilted Kilt Girl would look good as a Tampa Cheerleader:)

  11. SteveK Says:

    This is good news.

Trueblood is obsolete. He can not pass block against speed rushers.

Excited for Dotson, would love to see what he can develop into.

  12. Macabee Says:

Pro Bowl Guard Brian Waters refuses to re-sign with the Pats. This guy could help for one year. Dominik is a good salesman, he should look into this possibility!

  13. Westcoastbucsfan Says:

He was benched last year for James Lee as well. Trueblood will provide good depth.

Why aren’t my comments showing up?

Of course that one shows. Ugh.

  19. REDDMAN Says:

Glad to see Dotson is developing, but the problem I see is what if Dotson gets hurt? He is the backup LT tackle. Without him there is no backup.

  20. SteveK Says:

    Reddman,

    Best 11 on the field.

    Trueblood is terribad.

Westcoastbucsfan , I have noticed that in the past also.It seems to be a site glitch rather than censorship. Sometimes the posts do appear after a time; sometimes I have to re-post.

  22. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

I still think it’s because Dotson is better at pass blocking and we’ll be playing another high scoring team. I’m will to admit I’m probably wrong though.

The spam filter stops some posts. It can be from just having quotes, being too wordy (that one gets me a lot) or even using HTML…even though WordPress is supposed to allow HTML.

  24. Paul Says:

We should use Trueblood for crackback blocks when teams start acting up. He’s got that big salary so he can afford the fines.

  25. Paul Says:

you have to get approved if you post from a new ip

  26. Macabee Says:

No matter how bad we think a given player is, some other team will see something we don’t and that’s good for the player in question. Trueblood has value. Whether he starts or not is a different question. We often complain about not having enough depth, some of the players that may not start can play a useful role.

AS most of you know by now, Winslow signed with the Pats. Other ex-Bucs signed too. Okam with the Seahawks, Gilberry with the Bengals, even Elbert Mack re-signed with the Saints. And good luck to them all! Just because we don’t want them anymore doesn’t mean they aren’t any good!

  27. Have A Nice Day Says:

This is great news for the team. Very unfortunate for Trueblood. Dotson had a fine showing last week against an extremely talented Giants pass rush.

  28. Drew Says:

Think about it folks? If Penn goes down, Dotson slides over to LT and Trueblood starts at RT.

  29. BurGi Says:

Dotson is under contract for 2013 (1.5 mio.). The big payday has to wait one more season.
