“It’s Our Defense”
September 16th, 2012EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — This one will sting a while.
The Bucs had the world champs on the ropes, bleeding, sucking air, in their own living room no less. The Bucs looked to be on the verge of a historic win and possible franchise-turning victory.
But then, the ghost of Raheem Morris appeared.
Giants quarterback Eli Manning obliterated the Bucs for the eighth-most passing yards in a single game in NFL history by rocking the Bucs defense for 510 yards, tying Drew Brees in a come-from behind, gut-punching loss delivered to the Bucs.
Manning threw with such ease in the fourth quarter it looked like backyard football. The Bucs couldn’t get Manning’s jersey dirty, couldn’t stop the slant, couldn’t stop the bomb.
It seemed the only time the Bucs could stop the Giants was when the Giants stopped themselves by Manning throwing a pick or the Giants receivers simply dropping the ball.
For fans who believe that the Bucs — who have now given up 813 yards through the air in two games — and Greg Schiano will change things around to somehow stop the bleeding via the pass, think otherwise said Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib.
“This is our defense, man,” Talib said. “It ain’t no all or nothing, it’s our defense. This [the schemes are]what you are going to see all year. We are either going to make those plays on the back end, or lose. Simple a that. That’s what it is going to. That’s how it’s going to be and I don’t mind that at all. That’s our defense.
“We fought, we just didn’t make enough plays. They made one more play than we did. A loss is a loss, no matter if they have a thousand yards running or a thousand yards passing. When you come out with an ‘L’ they all feel the same way to me.”

This from the guy who damn near allowed 1,000 receiving from Nicks.

Ironically, we see why Schiano has so many DBs now. He must have saw a weakness there.
September 16th, 2012 at 5:29 pm
Talib isn’t going to be around much longer…
Not when he is getting burned every time he doesn’t hold a receiver.
September 16th, 2012 at 5:32 pm
Talib = toast
September 16th, 2012 at 5:36 pm
I hope to God Talib is just talking out of his hat and this is not the official mandate of the Buc’s defensive brain trust.
September 16th, 2012 at 5:47 pm
Well, if this is the scheme, carved in granite, they better get some new personnel in.
September 16th, 2012 at 5:48 pm
It would be interesing to watch if Tlib was ever near to steal a ball from Nicks. But he was two yards back wtching him score.

Blitz blitz and blitz some more. If that doesn’t work, blitz harder.
September 16th, 2012 at 5:54 pm
These were the superbowl champs last season this would have been a 30 point arse kicking today we played them tough… hail to coach shiano and the new buc way! One of the most exciting games I’ve seen as a Buc fan even when we gave up the lead I felt we had a chance that’s what I pay for to be entertained

Passenger, we lost due to coaching. I like Schiano but he needs to talk to Sheridan about his blitzing addiction. Terrible. Just terrible defensive play calling. When your corners can’t cover a receiver one on one you HAVE to help him. You have to. That’s defense 101. Good game by the players and it does give me some hope but man that was terrible play calling from the d coordinator.

As a former basketball player, I have lost a couple games for my team due to playing crappy. I would say the same thing (that they all feel the same if we lose), but I was completely full of crap. It really sucks to let your team down, and I’m sure he feels the exact same way. The key will be how he responds.

Jbrooks,
I agree we blitz too much, but if our front 4 can’t get any pressure on the QB, it’s pick your poison.
September 16th, 2012 at 6:48 pm
The defense did a good job in red zone first half, before the flood gates opened.
September 16th, 2012 at 9:10 pm
The problem with the defense was really the offense. When fresh we swarmed and played good against a very good offense. When they became tired, the defense failed.

Defense was out there for about 80 plays today, 48 last week.

If we would have drafted MO Claiborne we would have won this game. Baron is nice but this bama fan says shutdown corners dont grow on tree’s

@John,
Is Claiborne able to cover 2 WR’s at once, because they had 2 go for 200 yards if you didn’t notice? That is pretty special, especially as a rookie. Even Deion Sanders wasn’t able to do that. By the way, has he even seen the field yet this season? He’s been hurt since T-Rich ran by him in the National Championship game. He tackles like a punter too by the way. I’m sure he would have no problem covering 2 premier WR’s being thrown the ball by an Elite, Superbowl-winning QB, in his second career game no less. Do you even think before you type?

How come Claiborne couldn’t help Dallas win today?
September 17th, 2012 at 7:51 am
John Claiborne didn’t do much last week when he played against the Giants. The only reason they didn’t toast them last week was because of all the drops they had. Did you even watch that game? Hakeem Nicks made him look like a rookie.
